Man Arrested for Stealing Over $100 Worth from Hoboken ShopRite

- Around 1:12 PM on June 4, 2024, Officers Frank Lombardo and Harry Montalvo with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They entered the store and walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, they met with Felix as well as the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 23-year-old Ismael Tamat Martin.
The loss prevention official informed Officer Montalvo that the man attempted to leave the store without paying for about $126.68 worth of items. He also told them that he started acting belligerent towards the loss prevention staff after they detained him in the loss prevention office. Since they wanted to sign a complaint against him, Ismael was placed under arrest by Officer Lombardo. A search of his person incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of prohibited items.
Ismael was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, he was searched in more detail. He was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(2) and also charged under 2C:36-2 before being transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

hoboken is an urban city right across from NYC. there are two supermarkets here Acme and Shoprite. Acme is situated in the middle of the city but it has less parking and is half the size. its prices are higher. The shoprite represents suburban shopping in a city. There is a huge parking lot for parking. there is no parking in Hoboken. the size makes the variety that much more and the prices are better - $10 lb for deli salami at acme vs 6 at shoprite. It is a suburban supermarket in a urban area. plus it is well run and clean. Has a liquor store. that is why it is so popular. Now why is it so popular with the thieves? I dont know.

Uh oh. Illegal immigrant stole from the wrong store with the wrong Loss Prevention Officer. Lock him up before he just moves on to a store that just let's him steal. Learn and obey American laws or get deported. If only that's what our Federal Govt did to protect citizens and American businesses.

In new jersey you will get arrested and immediately released so never worry about it whatever you do. It’s a big inconvenience but they always release you after processing and normally drop all charges… not a joke I’m serious fyi .
