I never understood people who said "I ate [non-vegan food] and felt TOTALLY better!" because I have been vegan for 7 years but I've accidentally consumed non-vegan food that contained milk and eggs a lot over the years. It happens, it's life. Never felt suddenly better, never felt like I particularly sick, i'd just go "aw, that sucks" and move on with my life. I don't think think I can ever understand stuff like this.

It depends on why you're feeling unwell. My wife has an inability to process a lot of common plant based foods. She got sick and developed a ton of food intolerances. Tomato, potato, all red spices, gluten, garlic.. the list goes on and on. This severely limits her plant based food options to the point that she cannot avoid malnutrition on a solely vegan diet. It broke her heart but she needed to start eating fish. Her health improved almost immediately.

The only time I noticed a big difference was after struggling with anemia. After 6 months of minimal improvement I reduced my fibre intake and added 2 animal products to my diet daily. But it still took 2 months before I felt that big difference. Once I built up my iron stores back up I was able to maintain more easily with just supplements.

Ikr! A friend adopted some chickens and they're happy, healthy, free-range birds who don't eat their eggs even given the opportunity, so she always has some unfertilized fresh eggs that are humanely acquired. Meanwhile the chickens have a home safe from hawks or foxes, and lots of healthy food, and kids who they welcome home from school, happily running to greet them.

No I think she explained why she didn’t feel good with the statement that things really changed after her pregnancy: she had standard mommy fatigue. Processed foods vary in how they effect different people. Each processed food is different from another and sometimes what makes a person feel unwell isn’t the fact that a food is processed but how it’s cooked, both unprocessed and processed food can be deep fried and some people don’t do well with fried food, especially as we age. There’s also the strange effect of people feeling unwell if the over do it on “healthy” whole foods, while fibre is good too much fibre can cause discomfort and even health issues. Not feeling well is ambiguous and could have multiple causes and reality is someone can even feel unwell even if they are eating perfectly balanced because not all things are caused or cured by diet. Aging and having children bring about lots of changes via hormones and life stress.

It's better than being a wah wah "moral" vegan which is about as cringe useless inhumane shit you can be.
Animals are human property to use and eat as we see fit.
The only moral considerations an animal has is that it's wrong to take pleasure in unnecessary harm.
Ergo as long as you're not enjoying the harm of the animals their death has no moral content at all.
But vegans anthropomorphize animals and pretend they would die happy surrounded by grandkids in a cave rather than ripped apart by a different animal.

      @nicolesapphire3696 2 роки тому

@@III1l Hive collapse was resolved and was only a concern for honey bees, wild bees are indeed struggling but it’s for a variety of reasons. Some of the problems affecting wild bees are: lack of habitat in the sense that not as many people plant flowers in their yards,p; honey bees pose a threat to wild bees and other wild pollinators as they are often shipped into areas and end competing for resources; monocroping is another big problem; organic pesticides are also a problem because they are not very specific and target all insects instead of other pesticides that can target specific insects and misinformation about GMOs is also a problem because GMOs reduce the need for broad non specific pesticides.
As for farmers getting cancer from pesticide use, yes, in areas where they are impoverished they have a problem of not always having the right safety equipment, all the problems related to cancer and pesticides come from improper use. Many people don’t understand either that just because something is a problem at a very large dose it does not mean it’s unsafe in micro amounts. GMOs could also help in this area as well as GMO crops don’t require as much or sometimes any pesticides. So the issue is people don’t really understand the problems or the nuance of the issues.
So yes the organic industry is filled with some misinformation, the first is that they don’t use pesticides, this is incorrect they do use pesticides and some of it is worse for the environment. The second is the belief that organic farming is better for the environment, it’s not. Third the false belief that organic food is healthier, it’s not. Neither conventional farming nor organic farming is completely good, there’s room for improvement on both sides. You have decided to only hear or listen to one side of this debate.

I had never tried it and don't have any ethical issues with bivalves. While I was there I encountered some vegan oyster sauce. So I took some pictures of it and posted it on the Las Vegas vegans Facebook group. My autistic brain feels the need to give certain details. So I mentioned buying oyster sauce and included a link to info on ostroveganism. I expected some controversy. But the way people came at me in the comments made me not want to be there. I haven't been back since. I don't know if I want to go back. Which is a shame because it's a fantastic resource for vegan food in Las Vegas. It's thanks to that group that I learned that the Filipino grocery store chain Seafood City carries a Philippine meat substitute brand that includes vegan SPAM! It's really sad to be driven away from such a great resource by judgemental vegans over something as unimportant as oyster sauce. Sometimes I don't want to call myself vegan anymore. Sometimes I just want to throw up my hands and say "fuck it!" and just not be vegan anymore. But I still carry on doing the best I can because it's not about me. It's about all the sentient beings who no longer suffer because I made the right choce. This "no animal products ever under any circumstances." attitude is helpful. It completely ignores nuance. It ignores the fact that under certain circumstances it's ok to consume animal products. Veganism isn't about not consuming animal products. It's about not contributing to the exploitation of sentient beings. Buying oyster sauce, animal products on clearance, or second hand leather doesn't contribute to the exploitation of sentient beings. Grocery stores have really narrow profit margins. So if I buy a milk chocolate bar that's on clearance; the store isn't making any money on it and isn't being encouraged to keep stocking that product. Allowing myself animal products in these limited circumstances helps keep me otherwise vegan. And that's a good thing! We need to stop shitting on people who aren't level 100 vegans. We need to stop the black and white thinking and understand that nuance is a thing.
Thank you Swayze. You are helping me not burn out and give up. We need more rational vegans like you in the world.

Every humane choice adds up to a more humane world. Fewer animals would suffer if 1,000 people ate a mostly vegan diet, than if 10 vegans drove them back to an omnivorous diet by sniping at them for things like garage-sale leather shoes or a chocolate bar on clearance.

@@zxyatiywariii8 COMPLETELY agree. We all do our best. Being judged isn't going to magically make some options available for those of us living in a rural area and not having the gas money or time to go grocery shopping in the city that's an hour away every week. We eat mostly vegan foods, but sometimes eggs and cheese and the only option when there is no tofu and we want to eat something other than beans. I have asked for certain products to be available in my local grocery store and have gotten some success, but they can't order in every single vegan option just for my family's sake. And I don't plan on giving up my job to advocate in my community. Empathy goes a long way.

I was not able to work out how to get the protein I needed from a low fat vegetarian diet (I had mostly been living on cheese and nuts for my protein. When I added meat back into my diet I did feel much better because I was getting the nutrients I needed in an easy to source format. But that does not make it ethical to do so! They are amazing beings and you can see them looking into your eyes and you know they're our relatives. I feel the same about primates in general but there's a saying about great apes: "if you give a screwdriver to a chimp, a gorilla, or an orangutan, the chimp will try to destroy the screwdriver, the gorilla will throw it away, but an orangutan will hide it, and then when no one is looking, will use it to disassemble everything in their environment." Palm oil is destroying all of the forests of Borneo and Sumatra, and it's killing the orangutans that only exist on those two islands.

As matter a fact eggs contain a range of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, vitamin E and selenium which all act as important antioxidants in supporting eye health, retina function and helping counteract degenerative vision as you age. Eggs also contain useful amounts of vitamins such as A, E, B5, B12, as well as iron, iodine and phosphorus - all vital nutrients in supporting a healthy diet. It also has a good source of protein. Only too much oil or undercooked eggs can be risk factor for a person, that is why I use little amount olive oil to make my eggs. Eggs help increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels - or “good” cholesterol as it’s commonly known - and this is one reason why eggs have been found to have little to no effect on heart disease risk.

When I am waiting for the universe to answer me, I am just waiting till I feel right about something, waiting for my intuition. Mostly about bigger things, than what to cook that day, but you know what I mean. I think it's a cool thing that she prayed about that egg, because it's a really big thing after being vegan for so long, and that's her way to being connected to herself and her feelings. But yeah, I agree that we shouldnt reach the point where the universe is responsible for our decisions and not we ourselfs...

This is a beautiful explanation. Non-spiritual people just don't understand. But if they need belief put into scientific terms, there are plenty of studies that show people who have a spiritual practice are happier, healthier & live longer than those who don't. Whether they call it God, the Universe, power of positive thinking, placebo effect, or law of attraction... bottom line is that it works. We see spirituality improve outcomes in every aspect of healthcare

I'm listening to this while making dinner, and the moment you started talking about how kale is gross, I had just taken some kale out of the fridge to make a salad. I really like it with some delicious dressing! But yeah, not on its own.

How can you promote backyard hens? There's too many unknown and possibility for it to be a bad decision, that it's not a good idea. In theory it might be okay, but people don't live in theory land.

Ot isn't 'hard' to be Vegan. It is hard to 'be vegan' and remain relevant - vaganism is no longer on trend.

I appreciate those who advocate people taking steps towards better consumption habits-I think a lot of people end up turned off to the idea when they’re only exposed to the more militant side of veganism-I’d contend that more numerous people choosing to go lower in consumption of animal products would likely lower impacts more than trying to get people to remove them from their diet entirely. Maybe I’m just talking out of my butt cause I’ve never been one to seek out meat at every meal-but it’s definitely an easier/more accessible(and cheaper) lifestyle choice than when I was eating raw vegan,so probably the best first step for a lot of people to lower consumption impacts

I dream about boiled eggs a lot but more about the slice and bounce. Like I don’t want to eat them just look at the maybe squish them.

Why do all these ex-vegans turn straight to meat eating? Why not just include backyard eggs and oysters? Having not eaten meat in 15 years, it’s literally looks and smells beyond repulsive to me. And the magical powers thing … just … wtf

I recently discovered your channel and I love it! I don't like to use the term vegan because it is so strict and I prefer to evaluate everything and make my own decisions. For example, I don't really include bugs. I live in Florida, I'm going to poison roaches, termites, etc. I also use honey from local beekeepers that love the crap out of their bees. So I'm not vegan technically but I do have to use that label with non-vegans because they don't understand the term plant based and will continue to offer dairy. I chose to go plant based for my health, animals, and the environment so it's very nuanced since I don't do it for just one of those reasons.

Re : the seed oil thing you scoffed at:
The oils extracted from soybeans, corn, cottonseed, safflower seeds, and rapeseeds must be refined, bleached, and deodorized before they are suitable for human consumption.
First, seeds are gathered from the soy, corn, cotton, safflower, and rapeseed plants.
Next, the seeds are heated to extremely high temperatures; this causes the unsaturated fatty acids in the seeds to oxidize, creating byproducts that are harmful to human and animal health.
The seeds are then processed with a petroleum-based solvent, such as hexane, to maximize the amount of oil extracted from them.
Next, industrial seed oil manufacturers use chemicals to deodorize the oils, which have a very off-putting smell once extracted. The deodorization process produces trans fats, which are well known to be quite harmful to human health.
Finally, more chemicals are added to improve the color of the industrial seed oils.

I would be interested in seeing you do a video on the science/health of seed oils. I've really only seen them be spoken about negatively online recently.
