Just couple of generations ago, the average curious person would have to struggle a lot to afford education. You would have to be born in a noble or rich family to be able to study what interests you. The wonders of nature were reserved for those blessed with a wealthy background. Nowadays, literally anybody can open their web browser and watch great minds discussing great questions. These great minds stand on very frontiers of human understanding. Unimaginable amount of money and resources goes into this, and it's all available for free to an average Joe. What a time to be alive.

@@solacedagony1234 True- unfortunately that is accompanied by tons and tons of misinformation and wild speculation as well. This is a problem I think about a lot and often- does the internet do more harm than good or vice versa- and on different days, I come to different conclusions. On the one hand it has allowed me to start two new businesses and lift myself out of literal poverty after a bad car wreck left me disabled- and it's done that same thing for hundreds of thousands of ppl all over the world. It's allowed me to learn basic music theory and become a much, much better guitarist. And it wasn't just the place where I learned all this stuff- it's also the thing that allows me to sell my goods and share my music with the world. But on the other hand- conspiracy theories, fake news, fake science, the platform it has given to hate filled bad actors. The way it insulates ppl inside their own media bubbles where they're never challenged and have everything they already believe reinforced constantly- whether it's true or not. We no longer have any shared cultural experiences- which is a really bad thing. Those experiences were the glue that held us together and made us feel like we were all in the same boat, on the same team. Even if we didn't vote for the same guy- we both knew the same songs, we watched the same movies, we heard the same music in the background constantly, etc., etc. and that gave us common ground to talk to one another, to understand one another. I don't know- I think the jury is still out on whether it's a net positive or negative. Not that it matters- it's definitely here to stay and going nowhere- this is the future- like it or not. But I wonder what it will take for us to learn our lessons about how to use it responsibly.

I grew up in rural Bible Belt United States raised by a loving wonderful family who happened to be deeply religious and believe things such as the world being only about 20,000 years old etc……the books, lectures, and info given to me by scientists such as Dr Greene and others have enlightened me in indescribable ways…I’m now a science lover and strongly considering attending university for physics so thank you to all that try to empower and encourage those who are interested in the true nature of reality

The earth is 6,000 years old according to scripture. The church age is about to end in these days, followed by 7 years of tribulation and then Jesus returns to rule and reign on the earth for 1,000 years. These 7,000 years in total correspond to the 7 days of creation when God the Father spoke the world in to existence. After that there is a new heaven and a new earth.

I do wish I understood more, but I'll take heart from what Frank said giving 'advice' ~ "don't insist on understanding everything before you understand anything." Good advice. I just listen to these type discussions and watch videos in the hopes that some of it sinks in and eventually I will be able to at least put a few things together. Tonight I understood for the very 1st time, what at least one of the Haldron Collider's purposes was, from Brian. Yay, me~! It is all so very awesome~!

I liked this conversation a LOT because, for once, it seemed that Brian was asking questions HE was interested in knowing the answer to (as opposed to just asking things he thought the audience should know). ie. This therefore made the conversation WAY more interesting in its content than usual. The discussion had more of a flavour of 'listening to a real chat between Brian and Frank as they ate lunch' (minus the mathematical content part, of course 😉).
As to suggestions for future guests..Gerard 't Hooft, Raphael Busso, Nima, Juan.

Local God town crier aside, this comment is what made me decide to actually watch this. Wilczek is one of the few physicists I don't usually watch talk because of how dense and full of the highest level mathematical language his speech usually is. But I do know that most of the rest of the physics world respects him and I'd love to see Brian be a curious george for once.

    • @pseudocalm
      @pseudocalm Рік тому

Thank you! I would recommend never forget that the study of the existence of an Almighty Conscious being with a will is not physics and people who are studying physics are the last people on earth who are interested in jumping to conclusions like 'almighty conscious being' based on learning about physical processes and phenomenon's. If the Almighty consciousness is there, it can speak for itself if it has the need to. It doesn't need individual humans screaming from the street corners in unrelated places and times. @@supernatural_forces

I only heard of Axions a few weeks ago and they could have got lost in the sea of theories but now it seems they might be a more serious a contender for the next way forward. The universe is like a maze that we keep finding dead ends and so many openings which we don't yet know if they lead anywhere. But so far we haven't reached the end of every possibility. It could still have an overall solution, which is wild and exciting.

So this quark/strong force dilemma reminds me of how the physical act of stretching an electric arc raises it's voltage potential/energy level. The idea that some have as an explanation for this effect in electric arcs in gases is that of "electron avalanche"- ionized electrons or photons smash into other molecules, releasing even more electrons, in a chain reaction (like the a bomb). Could this be the Casimir force of the "quantum foam" pushing back on the quark separation- until they reach a distance sizeable enough to allow the wave functions of local spacetime to "go around them", collide/interfere and produce the new pair of quark/antiquark?

    • @rovidius2006

Excellent content! Just make sure to laugh with him and bask in his humor when he jokes rather than ignoring the joke and rushing to the next topic. That would make it feel more organic convo rather than an interview, I know you have a lot of topics you want to get thru, just a viewer perspective

      Is that a possibility?

Doesn’t seem unusual that the devoured planets and galaxies devoured by a blackhole in one universe . Would hold the ingredients necessary to spawn the new universe in the next universe !

Hi Dr. Brian, I am always amazed to listen to your all presentation, very poignant and soul reaching. Wondering if you have ever thought of gravity including other (unknown/ yet to discover) elementary forcefield was present before big bang? There are some indications in holy scripture (Quran)? Best regards.

These conversations are a great pleasure to watch, and to hear Brian is always anyway, also to read his books - nevertheless I disagree with him here deeply on one point, following 1:30 ff. : that one day our "flesh-and-blood-versions" will be a thing of the past - well, that might well be a fact, okay - and - and that is the point - that this will be a good thing (if he believes this, he does not EXPLICITELY say it, because they spontaniously switched topic). For me this is a nightmare. That humans have two different sexes is absolutely essential for being human, that we see and experience the world from two different perspectives, like in a parallax, like seeing it with two eyes and so being able to PERCEIVE its spatial dimension and not just maybe to KNOW about it. And how do we want to have two sexes without bodies? I can't and don't want to imagine my girlfriend without her body just as a pure mind. And can you really love another human, I mean now, love her soul without seeing her gestures, mimics, smile, tears, movement of her eyes etc etc ?

Suggestion? Hi Dr. Greene, How about Justin Khoury or Shamit Kachru? Dark Energy or String Theory. Loved Hidden Dimensions from the WSF a few years back. Dark matter and dark energy are cool too.

very inspiring thoughts. You have tried to scale to super symmetry from micro symmetry? explore the 10^19 scale in the negative direction. measure the micro particle interaction from an approach of 0 as compared to (infinity -1) scaling to super symmetry from micro symmetry for scope.

A question perhaps worth a discussion: If QM and its interpretations are true, aren't us, and the universe we live in, the stochastic end of many collapsed or decohered quantum events,-- still in progress-- and if so, how can it be explained in the context of the initial 2 raised to power n (very large number ) particles, which could be in all sorts of partial, and total superpositions and or various degrees of entanglements dictated by the initial close proximity?

cause it would be a bad marie curie pun OR maybe he laughs cause he is thinking that him being being curious about some things is not good and says "thank goodness" those things are strange, with a laugh, so In a sense he would be laughing to himself as a social way to move on from not bein asked asked what he does mean

The chat reply kinda cracks me up. I'm no physicist, but one thing I know as truth, and my evidence is proven through my own experience, so prove me wrong, you can't, nothing is impossible. (No thing being still regarded a thing, mind you) The only impossibilities are based on a individual's own unique perceptions. And this applies to the "really real" world. At this stage of evolution there are some things we simply will not be able to comprehend until we "level up" and with all the dogmas of science at play I give great kudos to Brian for being a sorta "equalizer" we need more "truth" seekers who will not allow dogma to bog down the advancement of human knowledge.
*side note* I love how they go into describing the naming process!!! "They" didn't let it fly. See based on my experience "They" don't get to be the overlords of what we name the stuff we discover. That giving up of power to someone else is soooo yesterday. LMAO! Each of our experiences should be as life and perception altering as Einstein's discovery was for him, mine have began being for me in regards to almost every aspect of my life. Not just profound advancements in socially accepted modes of scientific education.

Four months, ago, Matt O'Dowd on PBS space time UA-cam channel explained the options for proving and studying supersymmetric particles: better colliders or high energy particle detection from space. The high energy particles from space are rare while billions are needed, so the colliders are the only viable option.
