Thank you Steve. I'm a type 2 Diabetic... used to be hard core Keto, but now about 60/40 Keto/Sad... Because of your excellent and thorough evaluation, I know I should steer clear of this product as it is. I also appreciate the company's that listen to your evaluation of the products, and change it as needed! 👍
Your reviews let me know if it's something I can eat. I wouldn't eat Hero bread based on your first review but I now eat it regularly based on your latest review. Please don't ever stop doing reviews. Very helpful!
I thought the bread's ingredients were a little iffy (haven't checked it out in a long time because it's just too expensive). I don't trust "resistant wheat starch".
As a Type 2 diabetic I've seen the resistant starch stuff. Resistant wheat starch has never been listed. Wheat gluten would shoot my numbers sky high for hours. I've tested out Sola bread, it wasn't pretty. I threw the rest of it in the trash. The spike I got was 110 points at two hours. That's with me eating really clean for a week. I typically don't do well with grain flours though. Others tolerate it.
Hi Steve! 👋🐈 Thanks for taking another one for the team, in the name of Science. Yeah, I avoid bready stuff for the craving reason which you pointed out. I watch the carbs, avoid the wheat n soys but... I certainly do enjoy watching you munch down. Oh, my store, HEB, here in San Antonio, on all of the Sola products, have "KETO Friendly" printed where that big "5G" on yours is printed. Also, that the product is Keto certified. That would really make it difficult and confusing to someone who may be in the initial (brutal) stage of Keto. Your "neighbor over there" is priceless!!! 🐈
I miss bagels too! I used to go to the local bagel shop, get six and eat three that day! I know that bagels are my danger food. I am better off just staying away! I liked your advice at the end of the video.
I'd say they're pretty close to being a danger food for me as well. To that end, I'm glad that these aren't sliced (in retrospect) and I keep them in my freezer. As such, there's no chance that I can just spontaneously eat them. I have to plan ahead a little.
Thank you for this testing. I am still struggling to keep my net carbs down and these seem a bit high for me. But your videos do a great job of providing information without wasting a lot of time. Thanks again.
I just discovered Sola bagels at whole foods. I must say these taste awesome. Only 150 calories per bagel. And mine have 16g protein and a whopping 24 grams of fiber (89% RDA) per bagel! I find that awesome. To me they taste just like a bagel and to me even taste better then a normal Thomas brand bagel.
Thanks for doing these! I have a pretty good sense of my body and whether my glucose has been spiked or not, but it's great to confirm. These bagels are amazing by the way. Best keto bread product in existence right now.
@@bocelott stay tuned. I’m doing some beta testing for another company and they are working on bagels, pita bread, and pizza crusts that are all pretty great.

Thank you so much for reviewing these! I buy these regularly because they are readily available at my Meijer . I’m not the biggest fan of the blueberry because I also taste the slight bitter aftertaste but spreading on blueberry cream cheese makes it a little better. I’m not diabetic, nor am I intolerant of the ingredients so for me it’s a great way to have a low-carb bagel option.
I was relieved to hear that your experiments didn't slam these bagels as bad as I thought you would....I eat them in my low carb diet almost every day.

Thanks for doing this! I am a type 2 diabetic, and have been eliminating various foods due to my morning glucose being higher than I'd like. One of the foods I eliminated were the Sola breads and bagels. I searched your page for this topic a few weeks ago and didn't find it, so I was thrilled to see it in my feed today. Your results make me think I can slowly bring Sola bagels back into my diet. Very glad, because they're really good! REQUEST! Another food I was suspicious of was another breakfast item... Magic Spoon cereals: Fruity, Cocoa and Blueberry. Could you please do a taste test/blood sugar video with those? Thanks for all you do!
Even with all the low carb bread options I don't risk it and use lettuce boats from Kroger for my sandwiches. I miss bagels though. Thanks for the review and testing Steve. Those bagels look good. I especially miss an onion bagel with cream cheese.
I'm glad I watched this one. I've been eyeing Sola products. I have carb hypersensitivity, so these are not for me. Adding protein and fat is kind of hot and miss for me. I'd rather not have a spike that makes me feel like hot garbage 😂
24 grams of fiber, 31g carbs, that leads to a 1.3 ratio of Carbs over Fiber. That is quite a good value for a Bagel. For comparison, a typical whole grain Bagel may be 6g fiber and 50g carbs for a 8.3 ratio. - It is a Bagel after all, so I am not sure it can get much better.
Your videos are so helpful! I have recently tried Royo brand bagels. They usually do not spike my blood sugar and have been the best tasting I've found. I have not tried Sola. Royo is, I think, only available online. Trying their bread product today and hoping that I dont have a spike from that.
@@SeriousKeto thanks so much for the reply & congratulations on little Calvin he’s adorable 🥰. They have the bagels & buns at whole foods & if you watch you can catch them on sale.

Hey Steve, I may have asked you this a while back but I don’t remember 😅… but have you ever tried “The Better Bagel” brand low carb bagels you can get at Whole Foods? They may also have them other places but I can usually find them at Whole Foods unless they’re out of stock, which happens often. They have fairly clean ingredients, are 5 grams net carbs, and to me they taste VERY close to what “real” bagels taste like. Their plain and cinnamon raisin flavors are amazing! They also have an everything bagel and a pretzel bagel which are also good but in my opinion not as good as the other two. They don’t spike my blood sugar as much as most other low carb bagels and breads I’ve tried but I’d be curious to see what your experience is with them if you ever get a chance! Thanks for your videos!!
@@SeriousKeto oh that stinks. They’re in the frozen section, otherwise I’d send you some 😅! I do hope you find them somewhere else sometime. I think you’ll like them 🥯

I have a combo pacemaker/defib and warned about keeping certain distances from electrical-emitting appliances. Three or four times in the last two years it emitted a tonal sound. I finally figured it out: it really doesn't like strong magnets and my new wallet has a strong magnet-bill clip. I don't monitor my glucose and wonder if those issues would effect me.
That's an interesting discovery. I don't think a continuous glucose monitor would cause similar issues, unless Bluetooth causes issues for you. Fortunately, both Abbott and Dexcom will be releasing over-the-counter CGMs very soon and you can test them out.
My personal experience (everyone's will vary, obviously): I am a type 2 diabetic and I when I eat the bagel with cream cheese on its own, I do see a glucose spike. However, if I have the sola bagel with cream cheese and added protein as a breakfast sandwich (just egg or egg and ham/bacon/sausage) then I don't see a spike.
Ty Steve, love and appreciate your test videos ! Wonder if it would make a little difference to leave off the un-toasted bagel altogether? Kinda like the frozen and toasted regular bread....just curious about your thoughts, not suggesting another test.
My suspicion is that any difference in glucose reading would still be within the margin of error of the sensor. Regardless, I suspect that whenever I eat these bagels going forward, they will be toasted. They just taste much better that way.
Well maybe I'll have to give them a try. Just for once in a while. They finally got Hero bread locally and it is by far my favorite Keto bread. It tastes more like bread than any others. Thanks for your follow-up review. And I love those wild and crazy t-shirts you're wearing. 🤪😎
I find that by freezing these bagels, it creates a bit of a "regulator" on my consumption. I have to plan ahead if I want to eat one, giving them time enough to thaw so that I can slice them.
Thank you Steve! I enjoy the pizza flavor now and then. I ordered some of the sweet flavors once….I didn’t really like them, because of the bitter aftertaste. ❤
Interesting story regarding the cgi and the battery. Seeing how your body prepped you for "Fight or Flight," you could control the spike by a quick sprint or start an argument with Terry!
The thing is, I only get the spikes when it's a surprise. If I were to combat it by going out for a run prior to a pain incident, then it must mean that I know it's coming and thus it wouldn't be a surprise (if that makes sense). For instance, I've had some tattoos that were really painful (sternum and collar bone) and had no glucose response because I was mentally prepared for the pain.
@SeriousKeto Nice clarification, thanks. I was just thinking that if you're scared and your blood sugar goes up, that means the body is giving you energy to flee or fight. But it turns out you're not scared, so now you're left with fighting energy. The joke was to pick an argument with a spouse to not waste the spike.. That's OK, my wife doesn't get my jokes either. Come to think of it, the most common response to my jokes is just long stares.
I hope to try them soon. I like the taste of their products, but my big concern with bagels is that they nail the texture and that it's not just a hamburger bun with a hole in the middle.
@@SeriousKeto I agree. I got a whole pack with holes. The newsletter says that they are boiling them then baking. So far so good but shape is an issue so they are selling them as prototypes. I want a bagel with bacon and cream cheese. That said, I lost my taste and smell from my first bout of Covid two weeks ago. It’s horrible to cook or shop.
@@SeriousKeto got an email from them saying that it was too hot where I live so I had to pat $15 more to fly it in overnight. That’s $30 shipping. It’s California but this week 75-83 degrees and we got rain yesterday. I’m done with them.
@@collettesnoozy7950 I can certainly understand your frustration. UnbelievaBun products are made fresh and without preservatives, which is why they are shipped 2-day priority. Because their bakery is on the east coast, shipping gets more expensive the further west you are. I realize that doesn't soften the blow, but I know that Jerrod is trying to find a bakery on the West coast so that he can provide either free or less expensive shipping to more of the country.
@@SeriousKeto if they charge it up front I would be better prepared. I already paid $15.37 when I ordered. Then wondering what happened I found an email saying it is hot where I live and they have to add another $15 to ship them. If they checked the weather they had a week of mild record setting cool weather to ship in.
I can't eat these, but I am working on weaning my husband off commercial breads due to the seed oils. So I will get this for him to taste as he doesn't need to count carbs.
Really appreciate that you shared this review. Based on all the ‘breads’ you’ve reviewed and my experiences, I thank that for me, I’d rather adjust to no breads and stick with chaffles. 😉 I’m not diabetic (1 or 2), but I just feel better when I don’t indulge.
Great review Steve! I really miss bagels and I have had the Solo bread on occasion and liked it. So I really hope I can find the blueberry ones in my store to try. 😋 🥯
I’m still prediabetic ( hgba1c at 5.2). When I’ve eaten Sola bread my glucose does not go over 120. I don’t eat it often though. I manage my glucose with ketovore diet, no meds.
Whats the difference between total carbs and net carbs? How do I know which one I should be following? Thx for the review, I miss real bagels. When I visit NY I'm so envious of everyone when they eat fresh bagels!
I think it's better than seed oils, but not as good as olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, or tallow. At the very least, it doesn't cause me any inflammation.
Orowheat, Arnold, and Brownberry are all the same bread with different regional names. I review Brownberry in the latter half of this video: ua-cam.com/video/NPeKfd6VUJA/v-deo.htmlsi=fpWQUWBv5A_VRDCn I believe Nature's Own is regional. I haven't seen it around here.
I haven't tried the bagels. I tried the hotdog buns several times and they spiked my blood sugar dramatically. I am technically a Type 2 diabetic. I'm controlled with my diet, exercise and Berberine supplements , no more prescription medications.
It's kind of crazy that real, artisan bread can be made with just 4 ingredients. Meanwhile, "low carb" or "keto" bread seems to have 10 times that many (at least the stuff in grocery stores).
Since wearing a cgm I have learned to examine the inert ingredients of every supplement/OTC drug for things like cornstarch filler. They cause me huge bg spikes. Unfortunately it seems that the cheaper generics are the worst offenders.
Many of the fat soluble vitamins also use soybean oil or canola oil. It's a shame that these things that we are taking for our health contain a lot of things we avoid for the sake of our health.
The OTC ones from Dexcom and Abbott are supposed to release soon. I'm waiting to hear from Levels Health if their app will be compatible with the OTC CGMs.
@@SeriousKetoThat price would be awesome. I am a type 2 and because I do not take insulin, I have to pay out of packet. It costs me about $75 per month for the Libre and $125 for the Dexcom. I find the Dexcom more accurate as well as the fact that the readings go directly to my Apple Watch. Thanks for the early info.
@@jennifercline6866 That's hard to say unless I had a twin that didn't take it so we could compare results. I'm pretty wrinkle free for a 56 year old, I think, but I can't say that I've seen any truly profound benefits.
@@SeriousKeto It's been awhile since you've reviewed Aunt Millie's and other brands of bread. So many new keto breads out now. Like you've said in your video, some might read low carb but stall weight loss. @@SeriousKeto Ha! You underestimate your comprehensive investigative skills AND maybe more importantly, your accurate and honest viewpoint on taste. Thanks Steve! You're helping so many people live a healthier life style. And in my book, that's a pretty good claim to fame.🙂
It is and you can. Just by having the Dexcom app on your phone, it will direct any alerts to your watch, but you can also install a native app to the Apple watch. I had it installed briefly, and for reasons I don't remember, I uninstalled it. I think it may have been that it didn't refresh in real time.
Not really related topic BUT… do blender bottles fit in your winerack? Just wondering before I mount the 2 ikea wine racks lingering in my basement on my kitchen wall!!!
I want a good low carb onion bagel. I used to eat one everyday, but I haven't found a low carb bagel that's even in the neighborhood of a real bagel.. Don't have Sola products available where I live.
I think because a significant portion of those carbs are supposed to be indigestible. At some point, maybe I'll do a test on a real bagel and see how the glucose response compares.
I called out the ingredients I did because a number of them could potentially be allergens for some folks, or just ingredients it seems people often choose to avoid. I didn't imply that those ingredients could impact blood glucose (though they might).
I am not a basher but truth is i have bought sola bread more than 3 times before i figured out it molds so fast! I freeze all keto breads i buy and as thawed that one out it molded within 24 hrs. I do not buy that brand anymore.Taste is good to us but none of the others do that .Not even the homeade that i make.
I freeze mine as well, but honestly, I think the fact that it molds is a good sign. If it didn't mold at all, that would say something about ingredients. That said, 24 hours is pretty insane to be seeing mold...
I don't think I've had ANY bread product or tortilla that tasted remotely good that didn't have some sort of wheat product or gluten in it. UnBun makes some bagels that don't have any, and it is one of the least palatable things I've ever eaten.

I thought it was funny!
Thanks. Have you tried the unbelievabun bagels? I just ordered some. Fingers crossed on taste
Have you tried Thomas's Keto bagel thins? If so, do they spike your blood sugar? Thanks
I have not. I think I saw them at Walmart. I'm sure I'll try them eventually.
@@SeriousKeto Thank you
Really appreciate that you shared this review.
Thanks for sharing your results.
@@silvertree3181 how is 5.2 pre-diabetic?
@@faithfaithekus8461 exactly nowhere near prediabetic
Whats the difference between total carbs and net carbs? How do I know which one I should be following? Thx for the review, I miss real bagels. When I visit NY I'm so envious of everyone when they eat fresh bagels!
I go into detail on this video: ua-cam.com/video/oEykhCk5oZQ/v-deo.html
@@SeriousKeto excellent video, thanks!
What are your thoughts on olive pomice oil? Is this as bad as seed oils?
I think it's better than seed oils, but not as good as olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, or tallow. At the very least, it doesn't cause me any inflammation.
Have you tried the grocery store Keto breads? Oroweat and Nature’s Own?
Orowheat, Arnold, and Brownberry are all the same bread with different regional names. I review Brownberry in the latter half of this video: ua-cam.com/video/NPeKfd6VUJA/v-deo.htmlsi=fpWQUWBv5A_VRDCn
I believe Nature's Own is regional. I haven't seen it around here.
I haven't tried the bagels. I tried the hotdog buns several times and they spiked my blood sugar dramatically. I am technically a Type 2 diabetic. I'm controlled with my diet, exercise and Berberine supplements , no more prescription medications.
The glucose response definitely seems to vary dramatically from person to person with this product. Thanks for sharing your results.
Thanks Steve. I’ve read the ingredients labels on Sola bread products and I’m not a fan of the ingredients. I’ve never tried any of their products.
Hi Steve, have you ever done a review on Nature’s Own, Life Keto white bread? Purchased at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Thanks in advance.
I haven’t seen that brand in Wisconsin.
@@SeriousKeto Hopefully one day it’ll be by you and can review it.
@@rickie12 If I ever see it, I promise I will review it.
Will you try the better bagel
At some point...
@@SeriousKeto Please please soon im begging
Good review. I wish I could afford a CGM.
The OTC ones from Dexcom and Abbott are supposed to release soon. I'm waiting to hear from Levels Health if their app will be compatible with the OTC CGMs.
@@SeriousKeto The question will be cost. As a retired person, I have to pick and choose what I spend my discretionary income on.
Rumor has it that it will be $40/month (whether that's 2 sensors or 3).
Thanks STEVE! Can you look at this bread sold at Aldi Simply Nature Sprouted 7 Grain, 1 slice has 11 net grams, product of Canada. Thanks
If I see it.
Curious on supplement, isn't colstrum in dairy for baby mammals? Haven't heard anyone taking it, what's it for??
It is supposed to improve immunity, be beneficial for the gut microbiome, and improve your hair and skin (less wrinkles).
@@SeriousKeto Has it worked?
@@jennifercline6866 That's hard to say unless I had a twin that didn't take it so we could compare results. I'm pretty wrinkle free for a 56 year old, I think, but I can't say that I've seen any truly profound benefits.
STEVE, can you test keto bread again??. SO many products out now.
I'm not sure what you're asking for. I've already tested the bread by Sola twice now on video.
@@SeriousKeto It's been awhile since you've reviewed Aunt Millie's and other brands of bread. So many new keto breads out now. Like you've said in your video, some might read low carb but stall weight loss. And really, a main reason why we are eating keto IS for the weight loss and would prefer to skip the ones that stall weight loss. Sorry, if you've done this video before. Maybe I just missed it. :) Your opinion is the most trusted on YT.
@@jaywellington6504 I have a playlist of breads and tortillas I’ve reviewed. The reality is that it’s impossible to keep up with all of the brands and little ingredient changes. I do the best I can. 😉
@@SeriousKeto Ha! You underestimate your comprehensive investigative skills AND maybe more importantly, your accurate and honest viewpoint on taste. Thanks Steve! You're helping so many people live a healthier life style. And in my book, that's a pretty good claim to fame.🙂
Is that the Dexcom G7? If so, are you able to use direct to Apple watch?
It is and you can. Just by having the Dexcom app on your phone, it will direct any alerts to your watch, but you can also install a native app to the Apple watch. I had it installed briefly, and for reasons I don't remember, I uninstalled it. I think it may have been that it didn't refresh in real time.
Just wondering if you ever ate and tested the Nature's Own keto white bread from Walmart?
That's one of the few breads I haven't reviewed. I think it may be regional, as I have never seen it at any of the Walmarts around here.
@@SeriousKeto thanks
Not really related topic BUT… do blender bottles fit in your winerack? Just wondering before I mount the 2 ikea wine racks lingering in my basement on my kitchen wall!!!
I just tested, and yes, blender bottles fit in my wine rack.
Awesome 🎉 thanks Steve! Ps, no need to film that test lol😂😅
Glucose spikes are different for everyone if it's spikes you maybe no someone else
It's best to check glucose individually.
Yep, but if I quit doing glucose tests, everyone would be like "WHERE'S THE GLUCOSE TEST?!?". 😉
What’s your favorite bread with minimal glucose spike?
@@FJB24 Sola seeded.
I want a good low carb onion bagel. I used to eat one everyday, but I haven't found a low carb bagel that's even in the neighborhood of a real bagel.. Don't have Sola products available where I live.
And I would say that the Everything bagels don't bring nearly enough onion flavor. They're pretty mild.
What is that app? I have a Dexcom 7
It’s linked in the description. Levels Health.
Gratefully I’m not a bagel lover. With31 total carbs how much do you really gain? I’m probably missing something or some things.
I think because a significant portion of those carbs are supposed to be indigestible. At some point, maybe I'll do a test on a real bagel and see how the glucose response compares.
Sorry i have a stupid question what ingredients of the ones you called out incnvreased blood glucose
I called out the ingredients I did because a number of them could potentially be allergens for some folks, or just ingredients it seems people often choose to avoid. I didn't imply that those ingredients could impact blood glucose (though they might).
@@SeriousKeto I was curious which ones you think might! and what are the consequences or SE Of Resistant starch etc
@@gaurivasudevan2291 I don’t know
😊
Ahh "kinda resistant wheat" :D
Sort of on the mildly passive end of the resistance spectrum wheat
@@SeriousKeto I think they attended the resistant wheat academy once ;)
The flavors aren't pronounced but the bagel is spot on. Avocado toast or with a litte deli meat very good
It's a solid bagel for low carb.
👍
Next show, I wanna SERIOUS KETO TSHIRT CLOSET TOUR! 😅😂😅
Just put any of my playlists on and you'll get a pretty good sense of my collection.
Potato Fiber... Never heard of that type of fiber!
Those are out for me because of the sodium. I have kidney disease...
At least you know...
Steve, thanks for trying these so I don't have to.
I personally use these for a cheater type weekend treat but good to know they are more yellowish. 😂
Wish there was something good without any wheat at all.
I don't think I've had ANY bread product or tortilla that tasted remotely good that didn't have some sort of wheat product or gluten in it. UnBun makes some bagels that don't have any, and it is one of the least palatable things I've ever eaten.
@@SeriousKeto I agree about Unbun.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I don't even BOTHER buying all these "KETO" breads -- not healthy enough... chaffles are better.
For those who adhere to a more strict or "clean" keto, I agree.
Based on ingredients, not for me.
You could always just eat half of the bagel
But it would get lonely in my tummy.
