Greetings from Finland and thank you for these videos, they're the reason I've been connecting so much with nature for the past few weeks. I've actually been practicing camping, from making fire to building shelters, on my backyard and I am planning to go spend my first night out in the woods soon. I've always been interested in more traditional way of surviving in the wilderness and so this channel has been exactly what I've wanted.
Good day Sir. My husband once told me about protecting the earth by making a fire from falling trees..He explained and drew me a picture of how he made fire. I think he calls this type of fire a above ground floating fire.. Yes sounds silly. Also..I like your views.. Very enlightening and I will view Spirit Forest. Thank you...your show are exactly what my husbands always says.. Keep up the videos of wisdom..knowledge.
We build them here in Canada all the time, no real name for it, but its typically done in winter camping as the ground is wet usually. The best types is a sawed off stump for obvious reasons.. good work man!
Hi Bjorn, I am watching your videos in reverse now and I appreciate every single one. This looks like the perfect fire set up and I often wonder what kind of chocolate coffee you use? You make it look delicious every time. I also appreciate and feel the same sentiment of friendship and also mentorship from your videos as a younger man. Good on you Bjorn, the channel you have made it simply awesome! Truly, thank you
I enjoy seeing all different ways people make a fire.. thanks for showing, I might try it out. Christmas isn't my time of year too.. seems to have lost its meaning, and become commercialized. I do enjoy spending time with family and having a wonderful meal. No need to reply to my comments.. I know you read them. Cheers my friend.
Hi Bjorn: If you soak your hatchet in water the handle will swell and get a tigher fitting to the blade...but you have to grease all the blade first, or it will rust! Enjoy... and yes wool is the way to go! Blessings and stay well!
Bjorns sit and sip awhile. Enjoyed this! I, too, struggle through the holidays, its nice to know there are others that feel it,too. I find it hard to people, if you know what I mean. Yesterday, I stepped outside and fired up my hobo twig stove and made a hot cocoa. It helped my head immensely. Thanks for taking the time to make these, Bjorn. It is much appreciated.
A good place to return to have another cup of coffee. When I worked on farm in Flam, I would go out to a few places to have coffee before breakfast. A boulder that had a family of red fox. Near a waterfall. Need to start that again. God Jul in September.
A beautiful video Bjorn and I sincerely appreciate the kind words and also for the shoutout. Keep up the amazing work you are doing on your channel and a have a great new year ~Peace~
Bjorn, I really enjoyed the show. The fire setup you used was a first time for me. I have to try it sometime soon. I did see something similar once before. A Finnish man had several slabs that were 2/3 of a meter tall and 1/2 meter thick. He took a chain saw and cut 1/3 of the way down. He made cuts like you would make with a pie. He stuffed kindling in the center cut. Then he made the fire on top. It gradually made it's way into the log. Lasted several hours and he had level surface for cooking. The Viking ways must have been in Finland as well. Must be in the Gene's. Love your show. Very inspiring. Take care and be safe. VAUGHN
One thing i will say is keep doing what you're doing! You are one of the only youtube channels which i'm happy to see upload. It's great to see something other than concrete or walls in my life as i don't really get many opportunities to camp or even take a walk in the woods. God Jul/ Merry Christmas to you Bjorn, and everyone else!
The Firebird's Nest...The Bullcrib because Christmas and because it feeds you...Grandmother's coffee stove...as old ladies wouldn't bow deep any more and won't cook big, heavy meals for themselves but always would have something warm to offer.
Love the videos Bjorn, keep up the good work! My name suggestion is "Bjorn's wood stove". I really dig this fire style, but I think the reason most people might not make this kind of fire is the setup time
I have yo agree with your feelings on Christmas, Bjorn. Personally, I detest what it has become. I am not one for "religion" but if others want it, then I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with taking a religious festival (of any religion) and destroying all that it one was purely in a bid to make it yet another "commercial opportunity". I cannot help but wonder how many people around this world of ours have gotten themselves in debt, purely "for Christmas". Yet more pressures upon people that they really do not need. I have no idea what the fire is called, but I don think I would be happy to use it as I would worry that I hadn't quite managed to extinguish it fully before leaving the area. The making of a platform to hold the fire above the ground though, I think is a great idea. Especially for those of us with a dodgy back who really dont like keep having to bend down to the ground constantly.
There would be no Christmas without the Christ. Now, I hate the commercial side of Christmas so I agree with you on that regard. Without Christ we would have pagan celebrations only. Jesus Christ was born at the end of September and beginning of October. The Catholics changed the time to counter the pagan celebrations. The early churches didn't celebrate Christmas at all. They only celebrated the resurrection. VAUGHN
Hi Bjorn, just been watching some of your old videos to cheer my soul in lockdown, we don't do Christmas either, beautiful axe ,but too big for me, your fire should be called,(Bjorn's viking yule log fire) you are a good man.please plenty more videos thanks.
I haven’t been feeling Christmas these past few years either so this year instead I wanted to learn all about Yule & that’s how I found your channel 🤷🏼♀️
Yule is the real christmas! I hope you will reconnect with the Norse roots that runs through your blood. Hail to Odin, yulefather, and hail to our daughters and mothers and sisters!
That's a NICE coffee cup. I definitely believe you when you say it takes time to make. I remember a video with Canadian Prepper where he shows ten different ways to make a fire, and explains the reasons behind each. This wasn't on the list, but I definitely do like it alot. It makes it more like having a stove, so you dont have to sit on the ground to be level with it, or you can sit sort of eye level with the base to avoid the smoke. I've never seen this anywhere. Maybe just call it a Bjornfire 🤷♂️😄 I think that actually sounds pretty cool now that I spell it out and read it. I need to start going out in the woods more often. I used to do it every day sometimes for most of they day even. We used to go camping throughout every year too. It was always awesome. First time I ever encountered a rattlesnake in the wild was at a state park camping grounds. I feel a deep spiritual connection to that place. I walked around barefoot through what seemed to be this mossy marsh with some kind of shrubbery/vines growing through it with small purplish red leaves. It was soaking wet, like walking on a sponge, but the air there smelled better than anywhere I'd ever been, and still have ever been to this day. This was at least a mile off trail, maybe even two miles. I just kept walking in deeper and deeper. It felt very deeply special to me for some reason. I found a huge bolder of sandstone or granite which had thick moss and trees growing on top of it, so I climbed to the top and meditated sitting on that, soft thick, cushiony moss. I think this bolder had some kind of magnetic properties because the moss didnt seem to favor one side of these trees or the other. It seemed to just grow in the upward direction, and very bountifully and unhindered at that. I really need to go back there someday if I can. I'm not sure why. Maybe Its just a feeling I got from finding it extremely beautiful, but that whole place off the trail, and ESPECIALLY that cube shaped bolder, has alot of significance to me. The south pole of the magnetic field helps plants and other lifeforms grow and heal. So if I found a giant magnet; perhaps sandstone with lots of relatively aligned limestone, I DEFINITELY wanna meditate on top of it now that I know what I know about the brainwaves.
This really is my new favorite channel. I just discovered it and cannot stop watching. Bjørn, you seem such a nice and authentic guy. I'll keep watching the amazing content you make and try to do your tactics myself.
Hansen's off the floor fire. I'm older and overweight (but losing nicely) so I don't like getting on the ground for my fires. A fire at waist level on a rock or tree such as this is perfect.
How nice to see you again so I can just sit back, relax, learn and appreciate what you bring us. Many thanks Bjorn. Great idea for a small fire ! I am alone this season with the flu so this and your words are just great. Thank you.
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen have you considered cooking on hot coals and no fire? The fire burns the pots and pans leaving soot on them. As you know the soot is hard to remove. Heating on a bed of coals is easier. It's easier to control the heat. As well, it does not leave any soot. Try it. You have nothing to lose but soot and hard cleaning. Take care. Thanks for the excellent videos.
Nice idea for a fire, just cant think of a name for it. I've seen a bush crafter in England who builds a hearth out of green sticks, too keep the fire off the ground, and give it some good air circulation. Cant always find a tree like that where I live. Glad you found the knife sheath. Stay warm and stay sane, well maybe just a bit crazy, just enough to keep you warm at night :)
Bjorn, your videos are like a ray of sunshine. I think you are so very humble and I am glad to hear you will continue to make more videos. Christmas is a hard time for alot of people, my suggestion to those feeling low at Christmas is to get out into nature or spend time around animals. its amazing how healing being around animals can be.
Hi Bjorn, at first a Merry Christmas and I hope you had a good Yule with your Family. I like to dig 2 holes next to each other connected to each other at the bottom. One hole is for the Fire and the other is for the Air-flow. It works something like a Rocket-stove and the good part is that you simply fill the dug out soil afterwards back into the holes over the burned out embers and no one is the wiser that you've been there. It also diminishes the Fire Hazard, especially during a dry, hot Summer.
I never did like Christmas I would always find a dark corner and slip off in to the darkness of it .. or go out side and make a fire and sit and watch the flames . But the bull-hansen trunk fire looks cool to me I got to try it on a log one of these days when it drys out of course been raining a lot here
Brilliant idea, just keep it small, don't let it burn through or weaken the trunk too much... the root mass can fall back into its original position, snapping the trunk, and that would throw the fire everywhere and it could get very dangerous. I can't imagine you could make a large fire of course, but it would also be important to make sure the fire is out before leaving it, as always.
The hansen fire. P.s i was forced to make a fire like that once or twice during an ice fishing trip... the ground was ice solid ..so we made one just like it but on a much thicker log but we cutbit and stood it up straight and had the fire inside the log. Love your vids ! Calms me in the mornings
Losing things and forgetting things like your sheath is just the Viking Way. Yes, a lot of what we know of the Vikings is from high status burials etc, but archeologists can understand more about the common man by studying items that were lost or discarded in the Viking Age. I agree with your sentiments about Christmas. I guess too that sometimes you don't have to be alone to feel alone. I couldn't get out into the bush this time, but I did watch videos, and it helps. Now I have some ideas of a couple of little projects to make in the new year. Oh, and great little campfire setup, Bjørn. Never seen anything quite like it. I have been chased by smoke though - I think it is Murphy's Law of fire that the smoke will always blow towards you, no matter where you sit, lol. Anyway, you should definitely take credit for your fire setup. Merry Yule.
I have often cut a flat spot on a fallen tree to keep my twig stove and coffee cup up off the ground. It never occurred to me to make a small fire like this and I will certainly give it a try soon. As for a name, this fire is too small to be called a camp fire, so maybe it's more akin to a twig stove. The Bull-Hansen Trunk stove.
Bjørn, you are a humble, respectful man and a great example to us. Thank you. As for the fire, I like the Bull-Hansen Moss Saver. Moss is beautiful.
Matty, that’s a great name!

How nice to see you again so I can just sit back, relax, learn and appreciate what you bring us. Many thanks Bjorn. Great idea for a small fire ! I am alone this season with the flu so this and your words are just great. Thank you.
The" Bjorn Bridge" fire , because the kettle or pot bridges the fire tray!
Single log platform fire. Or Bull-Hansen Fire. We don’t do Christmas either. Have a great day.
Thank you, my friend.
Great suggestion, Bull-Hansen! I will call it that :) wanna go out and try it soon.
Love your UA-cam studio , non standard
u helping me to go trough dally life ..hi from Poland(IRL)
Hi Bjorn. You are a top bloke for making these inspiring and insightful videos. Keep up the good work man - I always look forward to your new uploads.
BJULOG CAMPFIRE! 🏕 🔥
Very good advice, my friend.
Looks like it’s coming along nicely
of course u have moree than 10,000 subs u are an inspiration.
Enjoyed the video, you're in a little bit of paradise. Many thanks 👍
I never did like Christmas I would always find a dark corner and slip off in to the darkness of it .. or go out side and make a fire and sit and watch the flames . But the bull-hansen trunk fire looks cool to me I got to try it on a log one of these days when it drys out of course been raining a lot here
Very, very belatedly; Merry Yule!
Thank you for each and every video you make. I enjoy them immensely.
Bjorn's burner. Very interesting.
Thank you for the video and a good yule celebration to you to my friend.
Thank you.
Merry Yule.
BIF .. Bjorn’s Innovative Fire 🔥 BIF
The "Suspended Bull-Hansen Fire"
Always good to see your videos Bjørn! Also, glad you found your sheath.
God jul.
The Bull-Hansen elevatet log fire.
Cheers
The elevated waistline fire
Glad you found your sheath, Bjorn! I hate losing useful tools:) Nice video and tusen talk for continuing to make them.
Will have have to give this a try.
The Bull-Hansen Trunk stove.
the Bear fire. you should name it after your fire making knowledge. Great video and Thank you kindly
Good idea with the fallen tree the height between the fire and the kettle a little bit more then it won't smoke
Bjørn-Viking fire.
What a beautiful Axe
Nature - Leave it as we find/found it
xoxo
Enjoy it as IT IS or be Gone elsewhere !
God Jul Bjørn. One of my favorite gifts this year was that you said you will keep making videos. My wife suggests the name The Bull Log.
Glenn, that’s a good name. Very kind of you, by the way, to say that about my videos.
