    Greetings from Thunder bay, Ontario, Canada! we are proud to have one of the largest Scandinavian population in the world outside of Scandinavia. though we're mostly Finns here, and i my self am of Swedish ancestry.
    Bjorn, please dont ever change, dont ever get corrupted by influences in this world that speak to one's desire as opposed to ones nature. i dont beleive you, of all people, would ever succumb to this fate but it happens to so many great, honest, and true hearted people that i must make this request of you. you truly are a wonderful person and your view of the world is crystal clear, to the point, and unadulterated. your one of the very few people i've ever seen can see things like they realy are, and who can tell it like it is in a polite way, yet without diminishing the impact of the message your trying to get across. please dont ever change.

    Being single, age 63, without family, and, other than at the work place, with pretty much no social connection, and without desire to seek socializing, I can still understand and recognize and much appreciate the truth that family and community are one the main things that our western world has been robbed of by now at least three generations of a comparably few global-social-manipulators with agendas that are self serving and anti-humane - yes, people have bought into their agendas and brought this decline of values and traditions upon themselves… but still, they have been manipulated into doing so - we can only hope and spread the awareness as much as possible to hopefully heal as much of the world as we can -

    Not cheesy at all! Dads are the forgotten heroes of the ages, the ones who keep families together, teach and guide their children and work the boring, soul sucking jobs to provide what's needed to live. My Dad was my hero and still the example I know I will never equal. Thanks for doing that.

      @Amanda Anderson Mothers are called bad mothers mostly when...guess what..they are bad mothers but even some horrible mothers get celebrated just because they are mothers. Even Good Dads get attacked by the leftists, marxists, globalists and feminazis just because they are men. Good people do good things, selfish people do selfish things, evil people do evil things and all these people exist in both sexes. Why do you have to make it a competitive thing, just let us give the good DADS a pat on the back with making a big deal or the new battle of the sexes out of it.. JEEEEZZZZZ!

    “Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”
    When you were talking about the everyday heroes I couldn’t help but think of this quote from The Hobbit (one of my favorite adventure stories) as said by Gandalf, who by the way may have been inspired by Odin. Despite all the problems with the world these days, almost all because of the modern society, people are still good. Especially the parents who always made sure their kids could be themselves which mine did for me and I am grateful for it. So a big thumbs up to all the parents reading this! 👍

I have a pretty good job so I don’t have to work too hard, but I do work to earn a living for my family, and my wife works to take good care of our family, and though we don’t expect our kids to appreciate it (at least not until they have families of their own), it’s always nice to be appreciated. So thank you for that too.

    By the way, I went out to one of the local hiking parks here in western Michigan and picked up some punk wood to give charring it a try. While I was there I also found a piece of flint. A good day!!
    I've had a fire steel for years but sadly have never used it. That's going to change. Thanks for your inspirations Bjørn.

  • @HectorPlasmic
    @HectorPlasmic 5 років тому +1

    It generally works better to strike downward onto the steel with the flint when you want to drive a spark off the steel in a downward direction into the tinder box. Strike the steel as though trying to shave a sliver of it off with the flint in a downward direction.

    Bjorn, I really do appreciate you teaching about the punk-wood. I do Frontier re-enactments in Eastern Oregon. We call the events "Rendezvous" where people dress up in "Mountain Man" garb and throw knives, tomahawks, & shoot blackpowder flintlocks and percussion, cast iron camp / Dutch oven cooking, basically pre 1840s era. They teach how to make "Char cloth" to use with flint and steel, but never the more traditional & readily available punkwood. I will bring this up at the next "Rondy".

    Not sure if anyone said this already. The flint scrapes off the metal (flying metal is the sparks), if you strike the steel on the flint there are more sparks going up than down. so to get more sparks going down you can strike the flint on the steel. Hope that makes sense.

    Yeah! Char and flint works good. I wish my brother had your patience when he was teaching me this. We made the char together first time for us both and yes lid not too tight as ours built up pressure, the lid flew off and our punkwood dumped in the fire. He helped me get a spark on the char but again failed to tell me put the lid on right away. Back to collecting punkwood third time that day. I'm glad I learned how.

    Hi Bjorn.
    I have not checked all the comments, and I am no long practiced expert using charred punk wood myself,having only started using it in the last 18 months. I have seen in videos from more skilled people than myself, but have since come to agree, that if you hold the steel in your left hand and strike down with flint in your right hand, this has the same effect as holding the pair normally and striking up with the steel. If that makes sense. This should force more sparks downwards into the tin.
    Basically the opposite of throwing sparks UP into char cloth but throwing sparks DOWN into the tin.
    Many thanks for this and your other videos. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    • @BjornAndreasBull-Hansen
      @BjornAndreasBull-Hansen  5 років тому

      I always throw sparks downward into my charcloth, so it's the same here. But the flint I am carrying for the charcloth is small, with punk wood it needs to be bigger.

    Nice instructional video, " learn something new in the lavvu ".
    There are some beautiful vistas up there Bjorn, lucky man.
    Cheesy or not, if it wasn't for those ancestors that came before us striving on our behalf we would have failed as a species a long time ago.
    All the best:)

    I didn't see you start that fire, it must have been photoshopped. 😂🤣😂🔥 In all seriousness I am a father of 4 and I find more joy and more happiness doing things for my family than in doing things for myself. That is the meaning of love, caring more for the happiness of the beloved than your own happiness. But this selflessness is actually the key to experiencing true inner joy.
    Thanks for all of your videos.

      Lots of people are asking about this, so I have written a few words about the situation at the moment of writing this: There is an English translation (the first in the series) just waiting for the right publisher. It should preferably be a publisher with a large distribution. At the time of writing this, my agent hasn't been able to land a book deal with such a publisher. You can help by either contacting a publisher and suggest they have a look at my books, and/or you can sign a petition to have my books published in English (link on bull-hansen.com). I am really hoping to see an English language edition available soon!
