One day I woke up and said to myself: I need to get off my butt and do the important things. I rethought life, checked out from society in general, and I don't do unproductive things and I don't abide unproductive people. I am much happier, living the second life that providence brought.

Diverting your energy is more what I think Bjorn is talking about here. I look at things this way: If I am pouring a huge amount of negative energy into a situation, I remove the situation & expend that SAME amount of energy into something positive. Ex: I was expending a ton of energy trying to fix my kids' public school 'experience'; fighting with teachers to teach what was important, arguing with administrators about the quantity of extraneous testing, spending time in school board mtgs presenting data, research, & writing news articles. I finally realized that this was indeed like banging my head into a rock. I was often tearful, distraught & my kids were STILL not learning the basics. So, we decided that instead of wasting this amount of energy on a negative, why not divert it. We pulled our kids out of school & peace reigned! I was still working hard - making lesson plans, teaching, field trips, interacting with my kids, etc...but it was ALL Positive energy & feedback. I quit 'trying' to change a bureaucracy that didn't give a crap about my kids and taught them what I wanted them to know by myself. 11 years later & still joy! Last kid graduates this year & I have never had to argue with a school board again LOL

Indeed..I have felt that it is about having faith..Ive just come out of four year period of grief and I feel like something has lifted in me. Back in March I spotted a stray cat, or rather what I now think was an abandoned cat. I have nurtured my relationship with this cat. He is still a cranky thing, no fluffy insights here..but he cannot come in the house so lives outside, Ive made numerous huts for him..but most days I go and sit outside for an hour and he now sits on my lap, purring for that hour. THAT has saved me. It healed me. I had a moment last week where I tried to converse with a crow lol...trust in the path folks. eat well. make your bed..sit. Listen to Bjorn.:))

You give yourself to an animal unlike other people. They truly know you, let you be yourself. It's amazing how well you connect with each other, with no words to describe. Coyotes got her I think. It gives you control and some satisfaction realising I don't have to care about this. You start to become closer to your authentic self, rather than feeling under pressure to pretend all the time. My definition of not trying is simply dropping out of the rat race and defining my own life instead of letting others define it.

Charles Bukowski gravestone reads: "Don't try". He explained it in terms of chasing expensive cars, immortality or fame for aspiring writers, but this short phrase I actually recall more and more these days. Sometimes you just have to stop trying and let go of something, that you think has taken a crucial part or caused a serious impact on your life. Sometimes you have to lower the pressure of your efforts, and the path you've taken will become easier.

Well I don't fall for that anymore, and what I work on now is trying to not try so much UNLESS as you say that it's the thing to do. We're taught that there's always a problem to be solved and we are lazy if we do not struggle to solve this problem. This is the actual human problem you're talking about Bjorn, what matters and what does not, it's a mind boggling question really that's likely older than the last Ice Age 🤔

Ironically I am in a period of a big push. For so long I have allowed life to pile up around me and make adjustments according to everybody else’s needs. I don’t know , it seems impossible but everyday I seem to make progress and get more done than I have in years. Maybe I will shake off the self imposed shackles and move forward to where I want to be. I really think my dog is helping me. Everyday on our morning walk he wants to take an extended sit in this spot that gives a great 360 degree view of the landscape. So I just started sitting right on the grass next to him , it’s really alright, I’ve only had one tick get me and I feel such a connection to the earth. My dog is wise.

This is something I talk about so much, and what you say resonates.
I do believe that if we stop trying, then primal instincts kick in. We automatically do what’s needed to survive and protect our health both physically and mentally. This goes for basic survival and survival from technology.
In fact, are we not trying artificially to fit in with the advance of technology?
We should be guided in our careers and life in general by the instincts that are deep inside us. I did. I was mocked for being impulsive. I’ve had a great life, and have stories that would take generations to tell.

There is a temptation, subtle yet profound, to retreat from the ceaseless din of the modern world and to seek refuge in a state of withdrawal, where the quietude of mind might reign and the tumult of stress abate. Such a course, I confess, might indeed hold its allure, for there are those among us for whom the detachment from life's unrelenting demands could be a boon to health and serenity. Yet this path, appealing as it may seem, is not without its consequences.
Life, as it is given to us, is not a solitary endeavour but a fabric interwoven with duty, aspiration, and the necessity of engagement. To withdraw entirely, to become a mere spectator of the human drama, is to renounce the power to influence, to shape, and to mend the broken things that lie within our grasp. Success, whether for oneself or for the nation, demands participation not absorption, but an active and discerning presence in the arena of life.
We must, therefore, find the balance: to be in the world, but not of it. This is no easy task. It requires the capacity to engage without succumbing, to influence without being consumed, and to pursue what is right with steadfast determination. The farmer, who labours amidst the soil and seasons, now asks whether his toil is recognised or rewarded, whether his effort serves a greater purpose or has become lost in a tide of neglect.
This questioning is not confined to the fields but reverberates through every corner of the land. It speaks to a deeper malaise: the sense that individual endeavour has been rendered futile. Yet if we resign ourselves to this belief, we forfeit not only our agency but the very hope of renewal. It falls to us, even in the face of discouragement, to persevere and to lay the foundations of a better course for our country, one small effort at a time.
