Yup I was there as well, Download 2009 in general was a REALLY good year but man seeing these guys headline was a dream come true. I left a battered mess and loved every second of it.
Also managed to see them headline Sonisphere 2 years later in 2011 just after Paul died and that show was equally as good for very different reasons.

I'm originally from Des Moines, and would run into the guys regularly early in their careers. They were always class, and good dudes. Never turned people away, and were very awesome, especially with their hometown fans. I bounced a concert for them in like 2003 or 2004. Got to sit and chat with Paul, and shake Joey's hand and tell him how much I love his drumming. It's so surreal to know I would talk to those guys regularly and they're gone... it's weird.
Anyway, funny aside. Mick Thompson (#7) used to give guitar lessons at a guitar shop in West Des Moines called "Ye Olde Guitar Shoppe". In 1997, my senior year of high school, I took lessons there for a little bit, and he'd rag on me all the time. I loved how he'd just mess with me, even though at 18, I didn't understand at the time. Now I look back on it with fondness! Anyway, he would show off pictures of a Pre-Corey Taylor Slipknot playing birthday parties. It'd be fuckin' nuts to know I had Slipknot play my birthday party... a year later, they're on Ozzfest and they break out. It was a crazy ride!

Joeys passing was a tough one to digest. He was one of the reasons I wanted to play drums. He was iconic. I was gutted I never got to see Slipknot while he was playing with them. The "Jump the fuck up" moment at a slipknot gig is so good. It gets chaotic. One of the moments you never forget 🤘 Rest easy Joey and Paul 🙏

i was lucky enough (or old enough..) to see Slipknot open the main stage at Ozzfest in '99, in Nashville, no one knew who they were, and it was so chaotic seeing 9 guys in masks going nuts on stage, they were moshing with each other while playing songs, just putting on a helluva show, i was amazed at what i was seeing, it was a great experience. i saw them a few times after, all great, but that first time, really stuck with me!

I was there, Was crazy, got into the pit on the left hand side for this, helped a little boy jump out from getting hurt. I'm working at download this year. It's gonna be sick!! This was the last time I saw Paul alive, Was at sonisphere festival in 2012 I think it was for his goodbye tour, was super sad but I have the funniest story for it. There was 70,000 plus slipknot fans there, this year will be over 200,000 😳, it's our 2nd home for us metal fans in England. No matter what you wear or what you look like, everyone is equal. Welcome to the slipknot fandom lil sis. Glad to have you here with us. I love the world of Metal/Rock...plus We have an amazing support system and the best bands and artists that are making a difference!
One thing that makes me damn proud to be a lifelong metal fan is to see these guys amongst several others like Korn , Tool, Seether, Linkin Park, Foo fighters , and many many more stop the concerts to watch out for the family of fans, not to mention the causes they contribute to, and the social causes they raise awareness of and sense of community and ethics they instill. They give us a healthier way to get out aggression, and demonstrate how to bring us all together no matter what and how to care for everyone in their own individual ways ! It's a powerful genre. In a lot of ways these bands are (now) acting as leaders to look up to. Expressing their struggles and pain, overcoming it and advocating for others and trying to help everyone is what sets these bands apart from the rest. It's all very cathartic! I love our metal world/community.

its really quite simple how joey did that... his orientation to the drums never changes, only his (and the drums) orientation together to the earth, and since he wasn't upside down he didn't have to worry about blood rushing to his head. though gravity pulling him back against the chair's back might have gotten in the way of his elbows a little bit.
metal heads are very misunderstood as a group... so are mosh pits, for example, mosh pits actually have a code of conduct that people in a mosh pits are supposed to respect and follow:
simple version (called the 3 rules of a mosh pit):
-Treat others as you wish to be treated.
-If you're in the mosh pit, mosh-or look for a way out. If you're not in the mosh pit, don't mosh.
-If someone falls down, help pick them up.
    -Moshing is an opt-in activity.
more complete version (called 8 rules of the mosh pit):
    1. Know that mosh pits exist! It is widely understood and accepted that most mosh pits start behind the people standing against the barricades in the front row.
    2. Do NOT ever pull anyone into a mosh pit. Mosh pits are opt-in only! Don’t ever push someone in.
    3. Don’t be violent for the sake of being violent.
    4. Don’t get angry at people for moshing in the mosh pit. Watch for the tell tale signs that a mosh pit is assembling and get out of the way.
    5. Catch the crowd surfers! Always be aware of your surroundings and the people coming and going. Do not let the crowd surfers fall!
    6. Keep booze out of the pit! Nobody wants to wear your beer, and absolutely nobody wants to deal with a sloppy drunk in the pit.
    7. Respect other’s bodies in the mosh pit. Do not touch or grope anyone in the pit or anyone crowd surfing! This is not your chance to “cop a feel”. Don’t be a creep.
    8. This is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF THE MOSH PIT! If someone falls down, pick them up! Look out for one another!

Nice reaction! I met Joey after a Slipknot concert back in 2005 in Michigan. I went to a show right after that at a small bar in Grand Rapids. Randy from Lamb of God was playing in his side band. It was back when they didn’t take there mask off but I had seen him once before. I talked to Joey for a few minutes and he seemed to be a really nice guy. R.I.P Joey.

This show from Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold live at LBC back at 08 was absolutely insane, what i would give to be able to experience both lol. Regardless, was looking forward to this reaction and you delivered in all fronts, amazing work as always Aileen!

I saw them live for my first time on early 2020 before lockdown, at the middle of the concert I couldn't move my head for shit and my voice was out... Best night of my life easily.

Joey and Paul were both amazing artists. Paul was a huge part of how their music was written, and Joey had other bands and could play guitar as well.
There are many legends we have lost that so many people just don't know about, especially in metal

I don't think I've seen anyone do a reaction to them performing the song 'Iowa' live. It's an intense watch to see them actually perform it live

“When Corey tells you to do something, you do it” you’re goddamn right. Corey is todays best frontman in metal
The 90’s it was Phil Anselmo. When Phil asked you to do something people in the next county would do what he said. He could literally part the Red Sea at shows. He still has that power. Despite all the controversies with Phil I still put him as my number #1 frontman in metal and Corey is a VERY close 2nd for me. I’ve seen Pantera when Vinnie and Dime were still alive. Was my first concert ever. I have a good story about Dime I’ll always cherish.
I’ve seen Slipknot multiple times and they crush it every time. They are quite literally a machine these days and Corey DEMANDS perfection.
