    I remember hearing this song for the first time. I feel like the Iowa album was a gateway to heavier metal for Me. I will always say IOWA and L.D.50 are two of the heaviest and darkest albums from the early 2000’s

      You need to listen soiled by mudvayne. You have to listen to the lyrics and imagine yourslef there. Good music changes people. Slipknot second album Slipknot is the best. L.D 50 is equal. Most people don’t know about Slipknot first album mate feed kill repeat. These albums are most liked because of the memories people associate with the songs. There isn’t one song by Slipknot or mudvayne first major album that sucks. This music drive something inside of us that is hard to explain. To me that is what good music does. Regardless of genre. Good music is good music. This just happens to be our way or releasing our thoughts with like minded people at least form a musicians point of view.

    One thing to not overlook, is the type of drum sticks Joey uses. He uses weighted ends for that extra oomph. The fact that he could still play that fast and that efficiently and for that long with those sticks is absolutely no joke. The guy was a monster on those drums.

    • @kodyepidemic
      @kodyepidemic Рік тому

      He used the Ahead work out sticks yeah? Like the fat and long ones? I had those for a while and those are a motherfucker to play at that pace. His signature ahead sticks were much lighter and easier to play, but those weighted sticks are no joke.

    Half of joeys appeal was the almost constant head banging during sets!
    The other half was his speed and creativity. “Not the fastest” people will always interject, but Joey was responsible for bringing blast beats into the mainstream from what I’ve learned. And his ease at just sitting down and going all out was always going to be admired!
    Corey did injure his voice.. largely from screaming without technique and also from jack daniels abuse. He had much better technique now and is sober so he could scream till he needs a glass of water 🤟🏻

    8:36 When your drum tech has to squirt water on the back of your head while your still play , you know its freaking hot. Those jumpsuits for that era were thick and cumbersome. So you know they were producing some major sweat."Mask with no mouth to breathe , heavy bulky jumpsuit and banging your head and drum skins while playing..." he was something special

    I got the notification from Slipknot’s band page, a text from a buddy, and had a coworker standing outside my weld booth in the middle of a weld. When I lifted my hood and checked my phone, my coworker was telling me about his passing. He’s not a Slipknot fan, but he is a drummer and said Joey is The Godfather of metal drumming. Ozzy and Black Sabbath are The Godfather’s of metal, but every metal drummer today knew who Joey was. So I made a playlist of my favorite Slipknot songs with Joey as the drummer and just listened to it the rest of the day. #1 and #2 forever!

    Ok, so Ozzfest 2001 had triple headliners on the second stage - Lamb of God, then Hatebreed, then Slipknot. Having gotten through the first two bands I figured I'd be fine in Slipknot's pit. Boy was I wrong. They opened with this song, and before I knew it everyone in the crowd was horizontal. I had a crush of people on top of me and it took four songs to claw my way out. On the Corey screaming at you. It's not screaming. Seven Deadly Sins and You're Making Me Hate You are really good books he's written. Which he reads for the audio books. He has 4 books, so far. The other two are about ghost stories (A Funny Thing Happened) and his thoughts of America just after 2017 (America 51).

    Seeing this live twice, with Slipknot, not sure if it was just me, but if you didn't focus on Joey completely, your brain would miss a lot, including every other bass kick, he was just that damn fast, and both times I seen this, he was spot on, but played a lot faster than the album. As far as influential drummers, since the slipknot debut, I don't think there's been anyone more influential.... maybe Jimmie Sullivan comes close, but I think Joey tops the list. He made everything look effortless.

    I also recommend any live version of Heretic Anthem, Surfacing, People = Shit and Custer. I just saw them live June 14th and i’m seeing them again this year Sept. 20th and i can tell you it’s an experience you’ll never ever forget, it is so god damn amazing.

    This is my favorite track from the DVD of Disasterpieces live in London in the early days of Slipknot for the IOWA album 🔥
    Joey is a monster, a pioneer and just inhuman when he got behind the kit. Probably one of my favorite drum cams that he has, THIS IS GOING TO BE LIT, I can’t wait to see how you lose your mind to this man’s incredible talents #RIPJOEY #RIPPAUL

    You should play the drums if you're that obsessed! Drumming is so more fun than it looks, especially playing metal!

    Another guy i would have loved to see a drum cam on is the original drummer on Dimmu Borgir - The chosen legacy. The genre is not for everyone including myself but some of the songs is cool af

    One of the things that completely blows my mind watching Joey's drum cam videos, (aside from it being Joey and how sickly fast he is)he makes it look so easy. Just so chill, like yeah just another day at the office, can someone get me a cup of coffee... LOL He sat in with Metallica for Lars. Best drummer Metallica has ever had. Lars' drumset must have felt violated after Joey got done beating it around.

    Yeah, his signature sticks were some kind of aluminum. I used them for a while myself, but they're kind of expensive. Really, his snare drum is what sounds so beefy back then. I also used to own his signature snare drum, but sold it years ago like an idiot when I was buying a new kit. Now I seriously regret it since his passing. And it just sounded so damn good. That was a really dumb move on my part. But to answer your question, the sticks aren't really any heavier than a lot of wooden sticks because they're hollow. They just feel really nice to play with, so they don't break drum heads any faster than regular sticks. It's all about how you play. Same with the cymbals. You gotta hit them a certain way to avoid cracking them .
