    0:40 What are blackheads?
    3:13 What causes blackheads?
6:30 How to get rid of blackheads naturally
8:40 Check out my video on omega-6 fats!
Today I will share how to get rid of blackheads naturally. I also want to help you understand the root cause of blackheads.
I’m not going to give you typical tips on removing blackheads using external things like pore strips. Instead, we’re going to fix this problem from the inside out.
What we’re dealing with is a clogged hair follicle, as well as a problem with the sebaceous gland (oil gland).
A big mistake is doing things like over-cleansing the skin and using pore strips. These things actually make the problem worse by removing friendly bacteria that are there to help protect you against bad bacteria.
The root cause of blackheads is a spike in androgens caused by a spike in insulin and IGF-1.
The top 3 triggers of a spike in insulin and IGF-1:
    • Refined carbs
    • Dairy
    • Fat (omega-6 fatty acids)
How to get rid of blackheads permanently:
    1. Go on a low-carb diet (Healthy Keto)
    2. Cut out dairy from your diet
    3. Decrease omega-6 fatty acids and increase omega-3 fatty acids
    4. Take borage oil

Back in the 1940's my mom had a bad case of adolescent acne. Grandma took her to a local MD who put her on a diet that consisted of no fried food (broiled, baked, or steamed only), and no sweets. Instructed to eat a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, only one glass of milk per day, one slice of toast per day. She was allowed one plain graham cracker a day for dessert. Her acne cleared within a few weeks. That was the old days when commercial food wasn't as adulterated as it is now, no GMO, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, etc.

I am going through the same thing..I am 22 now and I had acne ever since I was 13. Been to hundreds of doctors my face is getting worse. From just having acne on nose it has now spread to my chin and cheeks
Edit: I was prescribed Accutane and apparently I suffer from Rosacea. Before getting to know this, I tried cutting out dairy but it did not work for me.

@@vedanti2358 if a change of diet won’t work consider accutane. I know I’ll probably get dragged for suggesting it but I was in your shoes for years… it took a toll on my mental health and no diet fixed it. Your blood is monitored every week and the side effects go away after stopping the medication. Idc what anyone says it was the best decision I could’ve made. This natural stuff is great but it’s not always the solution when it comes to acne.

@@vedanti2358 Hi Vedanti, my acne was the result of hormones and stress (from a toxic family), which resulted in poor eating habits, so I was also missing necessary nutrients. All this resulted in an affected gut and wild hormone surges.
I took vitamin A, zinc, vitamin D, iron and collagen peptide (missing amino acids). First, I improved my gut health (collagen and Vit. D) and drooping muscle issue (with collagen, Vit. D and iron). Next, vitamin A and zinc improved the skin and muscle tone. Acne stopped. I also felt much better.
Plus, intermittent fasting to reduce/remove debris (oxidized/free radical) cells.
I keep reading to learn more about the basic building blocks of the body. If you too are interested, please do read "The Miraculous Effects of Vitamin D" by Jeff T. Bowles. Available on Amazon Kindle. (Can read on the phone.)

Then get a cotton ball, wet it and rub all over your face; let dry, In a few days, all your blemishes, blkheads, etc, will come to the surface. You can scrub them off with a buff puff or warm wash cloth. it works. In High school I purchases a facial-spinning brush that worked with acne soap so well, my acne went away completely. I had acne my entire life and last year I decided I had enough, I was done! I couldn't take spending so much money on skin products and not having the skin I wanted anymore, so I did some research and found out about what Dr Eric is saying in this video and went radical with the changes. I cut carbs, sugar and dairy all at once. This was before Dr Eric's video, around November last year. I never truly believed that changing my diet would make such a difference. I thought that it would improve but not solve the issue. But I was desperate and willing to do anything to have clear skin. OH BOY, WAS I WRONG! In about 3 months my skin was clear like has never been before ever since I was 10 years old. I am very Happy that dr Eric is spreading the word! And plus I didn't know about Omega 3 and 6 being involved as well, thank you Dr! (I still use special soap and special hydrating cream for oily acne-prone skin that I was already using before changing my diet, but now these products act more as a hygiene routine and wrinkle prevention). I wish my Dermatologists have told me this before! Thank you again, Dr Eric!

So what did you eat in a day?

    • @Sarinhajd
      @Sarinhajd Рік тому +79

Breakfast is coffee with xylitol instead of sugar and omelette with mushrooms, fresh onions and baby tomatoes. Around 10 I get a banana + almond milk (without sugar) + oats + Linseed. Lunch is salad with loads of leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots etc and a protein like fish or chicken. Afternoon I have another coffee/tea and a couple of whole grain cookies without added sugar, and than I try to not have dinner so I usually have just a cup of tea or something like that. When I'm very hungry I boil some vegetables and eat with lemon, olive oil and salt. I need to make it clear that I cut *Refined* sugar and dairy and I try to eat as little as possible the whole grain carbs such as the cookies. I found out that in my case specifically is the insulin spikes from refined carbs such as refined sugar and flour and the pro inflammatory properties from dairy that cause my pimples. So if I have a couple of whole grain cookies is not a problem because they don't cause insulin spikes and I don't seem to have any skin problems due to the cookies. Dairy I did cut of my like completely and every single time I break this rule with a little bit of ice-cream (my weakness), in one or two days I have big inflamed internal pimples on my forehead and smaller inflamed ones on my chin. More recently I have been trying some intermittent fasting routines... I hope I helped.

@@freeaus3902 When I was young, I noticed that my Acne got much worse in the summer months and would go away during the winter. I read that bacteria grow much faster in warm temperatures. Heat activates the growth of bacteria. Try to avoid heat. For example, Do not stand over a hot stove. Do not wash your face with hot water.
I was reading a book called "The Acne Cure" by a Dr. Terry Dubrow. In his book he says to apply an ice pack to the skin. I would apply ice once or twice a day for 2 or 3 minutes. Do not apply ice for so long that the skin swells. He tells why he thinks the Ice treatment works but it doesn't matter why it works, It only matters that it does work.
One important thing to remember is the acne you see on your face today was probably growing below the surface of the skin unseen 3 weeks earlier. Therefore you will need to wait 3 weeks to see the result of the Ice treatment.

Literally! If you have such a prominent health issue, the first thing you should do is this look at this checklist:
Am I getting enough red meats?
      Am I eating enough greens?
Am I getting adequate sources of vitamins?
If the answer is yes to all, then you should look to lower your sugar and carbohydrate intake. Limit your bread/rice intake and cut out sugary things completely until you understand your body's limits and then you can assign cheat days accordingly.
Seriously, white bread and sugar are the single worst things for human health imo. Fucks up your teeth, your liver, your digestive system, unnecessary calories, causes skin problems and makes you tired.

@@headfullofmusic422 red meat is a huge source of iron, zinc, vitamin b12 and protein. You'll have to eat more greens (preferably spinach, so you can also hit 2 birds with one stone with the protein and iron) to compensate for the lost iron. You have to take b-12 supplements since all other sources are pretty poor. Beans, nuts and dairy for zinc (they still provide pretty low zinc percentage, and you'll have to eat a lot of them to get to the level red meat provides, I'd recommend taking zinc supplements too in that case). There are lots of alternatives for protein such as beans, spinach, chicken, fish or eggs so I don't think you should worry too much about that aspect.
Conclusion: compensate iron with leafy greens; compensate b-12 with supplements; zinc with supplements, nuts, dairy and beans; protein can be compensated with plenty of other alternatives.

Dr Berg you truly changed my life with this knowledge and your genuine delivery. I have 2 questions if you could please make 2 separate videos on these - greatly appreciated. After all these videos, not that you’re running out of video ideas, but I’m sure you want to answer sincere questions.
#1. Please explain the physiological science behind the “keto forever” concept.
(My experience: I did “keto” for about a year. Learned and got better at it. Almost opened a keto kitchen & got your personal coaching cert. Incorporated IF and really soared. Eventually went back to more carb rich diet but quickly learned that my body was still burning fats as a fuel source as well as carbs. I believe I was able to hack my body into now burning 2 fuel sources instead of just the one - now using carbs and fats as fuel sources. And not needing to be in Ketosis to burn fats. Is this a real phenomenon? Or is it just in my head? I really believe it’s true because even after going back to crappy diet (carb rich, “normal” diet) I’m keeping most of the weight off and if I do a fast - I really see big results in weight loss (more than I had during a fast before I did the year of keto. Please addres this or direct me to a video if you already have .
#2. Why do you look younger and better looking from 4 years ago? Seriously!
I haven’t watched you in about 3 years. 4 years ago is when I learned of the keto lifestyle thru you and watched many videos learning from you. I remembered you being more pasty, oily looking skin, whiter, reddish hair, nerdy.
Now fast forward to now and taking into consideration your videos now have a new set up- podcast style I like it, different backdrop, better camera, YOU LOOK DIFFERENT like you have been cloned !! Where’s the real Dr Berg!? Granted one video you have a goatee and your hair appears darker and looks like you have a suntan or maybe wearing camera make up- it makes you look almost like a Chicano!
SO WHATS DIFFERNT DR BERG - SPILL THE BEANS- enquiring minds want to know? At first I thought maybe you had been thru a divorce and were back on the market so you did a makeover or something, or maybe gotten veneers and cheek implants , hair implants , but please take the guess work out of it- your fans want to know!
I say this with the utmost of respect. This is sincere and not a troll. You are a legend in the keto world and your style of teaching and humor are awesome and helped me to learn a lot . Thanks again! Ryan

Less oily skin, no blackheads, no stains after having a pimple, all changes really fast while doing nothing to my face, I'm really impressed.
Why dermatologists never told me this before is baffling, if I would known I would not have any scars or wide pores as acne sequels.

Awesome video as usual Dr Berg! Can stress also be the culprit with acne? I see from myself periodical acne flarups even after removal or reducing sugars, carbs and diary from my diet but I do undergo a lot of stress so thinking this might be the reason.

    • @petemavus2948

I can see stress triggering acne. I had hormonal acne at the most stressful time in my life. Another huge trigger is insulin spike, whenevet I eat too much sweets or refined carbs, i get huge pimples mostly on my back or at the bac of my neck.

    • @brianc.4425

I believe it can. I've battled acne my entire life and in times of stress I get worse, more intense breakouts. No stress? Very light to ZERO breakouts. And this has always been the case regardless of a healthy or poor diet. If it was ALL about diet, that would mean anyone with a poor diet would get acne and that's simply not the case.

This is right on the ball!!! As usual with all the advice from Dr Berg!!! Back in the 80s, a young man in his late teens that I knew was advised exactly the same. He not only had developed facial acne, but also big blind pustules that turned red with inflammation on his shoulders and upper back. He was quite good looking and a real hit with young ladies, thus he ended up at the doctor's pretty quick.. Luckily, his Dr told him if he didn't change his diet and stay on his advice, it would not go away. And he had excellent success with it. I'm guessing now that his doctor must have been an "old school" and a very good one...
