Those pore strips are invaluable for pulling out splinters in hard to reach/see places or for kids who hate tweezers. You just cut off a piece big enough, wet it, wait, and presto! No more painful splinter. Excellent advice, and I learned a lot from this video.
I appreciate you giving budget friendly options that work. It seems like everyone recommends high end brands when talking about skincare. It feels like I’m being told if I want something that actually works, it has to be expensive. I would love to purchase some luxurious high end products, but unfortunately, at the moment I don’t have the budget for them. 💸
I verify ingredients when buying a product, trust me, I wanted to buy high end products, but almost all of them have either endocrine disruptor, useless ingredients, lot of alcohol or lot of fragrance ... you name it. I manage always to find CLEAN budget friendly products. Why buying 60€ harmful cream when I can buy an organic cream in the range 4-25€ that suits my skin and do me good? Although there is costly products that I love, like 100%pure ...
Expensive doesn’t always mean better skincare. Avoid fragrance and “natural ingredients need to be really researched before using on skin. Tree bark is natural, but I’m not putting it on my face. Funny seeing all these young doctors recommending Paula’s choice BHA. I’ve been using that over 20 years.
Jem - I am sure you have all that you truly need in life already and money doesn’t always make things better, but I can relate to not having the budget to purchase things I want and I want to just speak into existence that you will soon find a level of wealth that gives you freedom to purchase! And so it was! Amen.
goto marshalls, ross, tj maxx, etc and in beauty department and youll find cheaper priced products with the same ingredients at 1/5 /the cost. i get my retinol products from there
I'm 29 and have struggled with blackheads/sebaceous filaments on my nose since puberty. I've tried all the 'DIY' cures egg mask, lemon juice, toothpaste etc. So after killing my skin, all I needed was Salicylic acid cleanser, paulas choice bha and the ordinary niacinamide. Been using these for about 3 weeks and noticing such a difference 😀
@@asjakranjc6279 I never use to, never thought I needed it, as I live in Northern Ireland. But I'm trying to find a good one, so far loving the cerave spf 50, been using it about a week now.
We have the exact same skincare routine oh my god! Those were the first three things I went for too when I dived into skincare around 4 months ago, and it's definitely helping.
@@Prlz3 so cerave salicylic cleanser in morning, the ordinary niacinamide, then cerave moisturising spf 50. Then at night either salicylic cleanser again or cerave foaming cleanser if I'm using the paulas choice bha, (I don't want to over exfoliate as it was drying my skin out and irratating it a bit) only use Paulas choice 2-3 times a week, I put the paulas choice straight on my hands then pop it on my face, as i found the cotton pad absorbed most it, then either cerave night Moisturer or keihls ultra face cream (I won the keihls in work, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it 🤣) Then once a week I'd use the ordinary bha peeling solution, the red liquid face mask, forget the proper name. I've been so lazy with my skincare this week and noticing my blackheads are coming back ☹️
I’ve had all kinds of skin issues, from dryness to redness, but after trying the subliminal affirmations on borlest, my skin has become so much healthier and balanced. I’m really impressed!
Oh my gosh! This is THE video I’ve been needing for my whole life since puberty! And I’m 34. Thank you. My number one biggest skin annoyance is those darker colored clogged pores (NOT blackheads). So thank you thank you!
Salicylic acid was too drying for me so I used soap and a wash cloth to gently clean, then squeezed out as many as I could, followed by Vaseline Intensive Care lotion. This worked from my mid-20s until menopause! My skin is beautiful now!
I use their recommended treatment. I never knew I’d love my skin. But now I do. Put some of these treatments to the test. You’ll be surprised. I know I was. 🙂
I have always struggled the pores on my nose. At 43, is when I realized I had been drying out my skin with all these cleansers trying to prevent breakouts, blackheads and the enlarged black heads on my nose. Once I found an actual moisturizer and gentle cleansers, turned out, my skin is actually on the dryer side, not oily like I had always thought. But this one is still news to me. They have gotten smaller, but still been a problem area for me. Thank you.
Most Doctors are treating symptoms instead of looking for root causes. Poor kids, scrubbing their faces after every class with harsh detergents and anti bacterial stuff, applying these garbage chemicals that strip and irritate, then people say things like, " Eew, gross, go wash your face." My skin got way better when I started using actual soap. You've discovered over active oil production comes from dry skin. Water consumption rate is a big factor to all cellular hydration. Half Gallon, minimum, daily, on top of any other liquid you chose to drink. Diet plays a factor as well. Your skin can help the body purge troublesome toxins that are either what you put in or on your body. Most of those lotions are garbage, with alcohols that dry and crap that clogs. Exercise helps too; the sweat flushes out the pores. My skin, and the rest of me, feel the best when I am actually doing all three of those things at the same time. Diet, water, and some exercise would solve several hundred, "ailments," but that wouldn't make any money for Pharma.
I've had the same experience! I used to think I had oily skin but now that my skin is in its best shape it turns out I have dry acne prone sensitive skin 🧐 which I didn't even know could exist!!! My pores also seem smaller now but I've come to think of pore size as a weird mark of beauty. People only try to convince you it means anything to sell a product. Our pores do contract and open up when they are open they appear bigger and there are many reasons for that. (This channel can tell you more about it I'm sure) I've also found limiting the fat in my diet seems to help. If I eat above 30% fat then my pores start to feel oily and clogged up. (I track my macros which is why I know that)
@@sabrinakurosawa5516 There's a big difference in fats, mono and poly unsaturated, saturated, hydrogenated which is basically poison, and various qualities of these. It's not easy to get a proper balance of fats when you macro 30% or more. Unless your ancestors ate mostly seal and whale blubber, you should not need to go with a Keto style diet.
@@matthewpatton9221 I'm not scared of eating fat but I have noticed when I ate greasy potato chips that my skin got oilier. I don't do that much now. Potatoes also make my joints hurt, so not even eating them as baked potatoes.
I’ve struggled with badly clogged pores all my life. Salicylic acid worked okay, but just was too harsh and drying for me. I have a regular routine now where I use lactic acid once per week (really love Sunday Riley good genes), glycolic acid once per week, and then retinol 3 days per week. Adding that retinol was a real game changer for me! My skin is so dang happy. My nose still gets kind of clogged, so I’ll hit just my nose area with Paula’s salicylic acid as needed.
I use a salicylic acid cleanser n products with niacinamide, I been thinking about using a retinol for a while now but don't know where to start. I have combination skin n I get clogged pores n hormonal break outs, can you recommend a retinol that might work?
@@MimiLynn1980 it's a pain ain't it lol, my skin loves nicinamide n that's really helped. My skin gets better then a hormonal breakout appears n my skin looks like crap again lol
@Salma riz don’t start until you know enough, I started and messed up my under eye and have fine lines that were never there (I’m 22! Ugh) from incorrectly using the retinol. I stopped using it but the lines are still there and I don’t know what to do I’ve just been trying to keep it hydrated but I know I’m probably going to have to use the retinol correctly in the future to fix what it messed up in the first place. It makes me upset looking at it and that I wasn’t warned not to mess with retinols so Willy nilly
My face has always been super kind to me. Washing it more than once a week actually causes me to break out. I am mostly watching this to find treatment for a sebaceous filament issue on my neck that I have been trying to get rid of for 13yrs. Thank you for all the helpful tips!!!
At 42, I have finally started trying to do proper skincare, while also reaching my 16 and 13 years Olds a good routine. I've learned so much thru your videos.
@@aestheticslifeandstyle190 I had to look this up a while back, because I noticed most of the skin care UA-cam videos I watch don’t really explain the difference. Black heads are when the stuff in the pore turns black and are gross and need to be removed. Sebaceous filaments are an accumulation of oils that sit on the skin. And the word filament refers to the tiny hairs (vellous hairs)that normally also are growing out of the pore. Both are actually very normal to have, but when it starts to build up a little on places like the nose it starts to become a more obvious when looked at up close in the mirror. Also it can stretch out the pore a little. Mostly you want to maintain them so they don’t turn into a blackhead, but they don’t /need/ to be removed entirely. I hope this makes sense :D
@@welovegoldens I've never heard that. Those blackhead skin vacuum things do pose a risk of making broken blood vessels, though. For the pore strips hurting, the Target store brand version hurts like a mofo, but I've never had a problem with the regular Biore ones. But also they tend to hurt worse if you leave them on too long.
I used a clay mask that dries up and then peel it off. It doesn't really hurt and I think it does an adequate job if you're worried about pain from pore strips.
I reduced mine a lot by using an oil-based self-emulsifying cleansing balm. It dissolves dirt and oil sooo well! I'm not especially acne-prone, but I'm starting BHAs to see if I can reduce them further. Unfortunately the pore strips never worked for me - they just didn't grab onto anything. I know they're not ideal but it would've been nice to get a clean start once a month or something.
Yes, that is actually one step that has helped me the most. Oil/balm cleansing. Any cleansing oil or balm will do. I usually do this at least one a week and really take my time massaging (5 min at least, sometimes I just sit and watch TV and keep massaging), especially around the nose area. That reminds me I should do one oil session today :)
I also find that double cleansing with an oil cleanser (like Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm $11) then a water cleanser (like Inkey List Salacyluc Acid Cleanser $11) really helps, and making sure to give my clogged pore areas a bit of extra (but gentle!) Attention, helps a lot in immediately reducing the look of clogged pores.
I wash my face in the morning only with water and at night I use oil cleanser too and then facial soap. I wish I knew about oil cleanser before I enlarged my nose pores by squeezing blackheads out. Now my nose is so smooth
I love my CeraVe SA cleanser. That once in the morning with hyaluronic acid + niacinamide, and an oil cleanser at night with hyaluronic acid + retinol works magic.
I always thought they were blackheads! Learned something new today. I've implemented a skin care routine over the last few months and have noticed that those sebaceous filaments on my nose are absolutely smaller and less noticeable, so yay! Was doing it right! Will add in that salicylic acid mask once weekly and see how it goes. Thank you so much for the video. Concise, informative, well made, and to the point! Couldn't get any better quality than that. 👏🏼😊
Oh please be very careful with salicylic acid and sun. When you start to use sa you have to wear sunscreen everyday, skin gets more sensitive to sun, and it can get irritated easily
You doctors and your videos have changed my life. I am mid 50s, a smoker, a sun worshipper, and I'm coming off a horrible bout with C-19, pneumonia, and post C-19 (was vaccinated and boosted when contracted). I was looking like a bag of arse until one of your videos popped up. Retinoids changed everything. My masking is gone, my freckles are gone, my nose filaments are gone, the wrinkles are much reduced, I don't have any blackheads, and I actually have real color in my face! One of you suggested Differin gel and WOW! I keep things simple: Palmers Cocoa Butter soap, Differin, and Ponds Rejuveness. Don't cringe, I'm a cheapskate and it works. It takes time, but I keep at it and the results are really obvious.
@deaconsmom2000 that is absolutely amazing and beautiful!! We as woman should embrace our beauty and thank you for sharing!! I hope you also feel better I know what it’s like to have Covid on top of pneumonia and it’s horrible. It’s something that has changed my life honestly. I still think I have something in me that has to do with Covid. But, I am researching and trying to study all I can about our bodies!!
Can you please tell us how long did it take, i've started differin but stopped after 2 months of constant regular use didn't see a single change only dehydration and hypersensitivity it's so frustrating 😭
Growing up I used a really warm moist facecloth on my skin, to open my pores, then applied egg white on my nose….let dry then gently wash face with just warm water to remove the “mask”. Worked like a dream… no blank dots left, ever!
This was so straight forward and informative! My language regarding skin care with my young daughter today is drastically different from when I was a child/teen. We are sunscreen buddies. Thank you so much!
I used to use those pore strips back in school when I was young 20s. They wrecked my skin. Caused blood vessels on side of nose to pop and look horrible. No amount of lasers have helped those broken vessels. But they also then resulted in even worse blockage in those pores. It was like they created more space for gross stuff to go. I then had to steam my nose all the time to get that out. It was a nasty cycle. So glad I got away from them. I now use high quality honey on my face now and it really helps.
I think Versed’s gentle retinol serum is arguably one of the best beginner retinols. I’m so glad I chose that one to start my retinol/retinoid journey a few years ago.
I'm no expert but I use all of those and the only place I still get blackheads a bit is on the bottom of my nose. My theory is that I'm really good at rubbing my cleanser in a clockwise and couter-clockwise motion on the sides of my nose but not so much underneath.
I've noticed that when I use a cleansing balm consistently, it eliminates this issue as it slowly but steadily dissolves the fats inside the pores every time. Hope it helps :)
I’ve always had bad skin, especially acne, and I was tired of trying all the expensive stuff. The subliminal affirmations on borlest have honestly been the one thing that’s made a real difference. My skin feels so much better now.
A video educating about skincare during microneedling sessions and what products to add and avoid that time to make the most out of the procedure would be a great help. 🙂
Using your recommendations I have, at 70 years old, significantly reduced the sun damage on my face and neck. Would love to hear your reviews of Clarins products - are they worth the high cost? I use their Double Serum and love it. Also, please do a video targeting the issues with older skin - thinning, purse string lines above the mouth, drooping eyelids, and extreme dryness. Thanks!!
I'm 64 and CeraVe has been a life saver. It's inexpensive, works well my skin looks better now than 20 years ago. I supplement with The Ordinary niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and retinol, CeraVe vitamin C.
I love Clarins double serum! Only product that has stopped my skin from peeling like a snake. Also my skin tone has improved and sun damage has diminished.
I've never had huge skin problems so I never dove deep into skincare, but after giving birth and turning 40 I noticed many more sebacious filaments especially on my chin and I HATE them, I kept using strips and peeling masks and washing and scrubing but nothing worked until I saw this video, the SA wash and retinol serum leave my skin so soft it feels like baby skin and filaments disappeared OVERNIGHT. THANK YOU 🙏
Honestly, my skin has never looked this good. Whether it was breakouts or rough texture, the subliminal affirmations on borlest helped smooth everything out. It’s amazing how much has changed!
I used to have issue's dealing with this. I found using a hot wet washcloth every other day followed by a very gentle cleanser and moisturizer worked wonders! My pores shrunk down to almost nothing. I am 67 now and have great skin. With an occasional zit! Yuck! With age? Double yuck!
The way these two speak about “sebaceous filaments” is typical to someone who hasn’t actually had to deal with large pores and compensatory oil build up. I’ve used salicylic acid, peeling, no moisturizer, added moisturizer, Retinoids, etc. Dealing with blackheads isn’t as simple as they make it out to be. AND the patient in the first clip with the pore strip, I don’t believe that’s to treat “extensive” sebum, for people suffering with this problem we face this amount, like I said, or a very regular basis.
Thank you for this comment. I actually thought about what was lacking in my skincare routine when some (not all) ingredients stated were what I have been using them ever since I got into skincare.
So true. Blackheads are the hardest thing to get rid of in my experience. I use/have used everything recommended and it doesn't help. My whole skincare routine is great and i hardly get pimples, but blackheads love me on my cheeks lol.The only thing i've used that helps is the La Roche posay Duo effaclair BHA treatment- it's gold but with a caveat . But, the problem is it dries out the area you apply it and then it turns the blackhead hard- and then i have to resist the urge to pop it out. Then, when i do i apply Vaseline right away and hopes the pore goes back to it's correct size. I have only one pore that became a little enlarged from an old blackhead. I think that Paul's Choice's BHA is overhyped from my experienced. Used a whole bottle and it didn't prevent me from getting blackheads for sure! But, I'm always on the hunt for a great BHA. there is a face wash i heard that is popular called Panoxyl Acne Foaming Wash Benzoyl Peroxide 10% i plan to try next and use it the nights i don't use my retinal.
@@clisaa6974 good comment ! And I agree about Paula's choice ..it's done nothing for my skin. Currently I use mostly the ordinary, I use niacinamide and zinc , glycolic acid and retinols. I use them for my hyperpigmentation, but to be honest I haven't found my miracle product yet.
This. I've used every AHA and BHA treatment going. When I started using prescription Retin-A, that was the first thing that seemed to help at all, but it still only helps a little. And pore strips I find do hardly anything. The SFs are just too deep.
I'm glad there are two perspectives. Salicylic Acid can be quite irritating my face, where as retinol hasn't been. So having two perspectives is nice to help the wide variety of faces.
Such a great video. When I worked at Sephora I would get at LEAST one or two phone calls a day about “the peel-off charcoal mask” and I would educate them the very best I could about how to prevent the need for one in the first place, without seeming rude! 🙈 My ride or die night cleanser duo is the Juno and Co. 10-ingredient Cleansing Balm followed by Murad’s AHA/BHA cleanser. I just JUMPED onto Amazon and got the Versed retinol, I’m so excited to try it!!
The fact that nobody talks about subliminal affirmations for perfect skin and beauty on Borlest speaks volumes about how people are missing out. Trust me on this-using subliminals can change your life. The power of the mind to heal and transform your skin is incredible when you tap into the right frequencies.
I love the isntree sunscreen! It's literally like I'm not wearing anysunscreen but rather a lightweight moisturizer. So i actually want to use this one which is rare for me. & The niacinamide in it is a great pluspoint. Another niacinamide favourite for me is the Q+A toner.
@@hamptonsfnst2014 check out the sunscreen database by scamander 14. He does a good review and evaluates the cast/tint. I think that one was ok but not sure. The Elta Md that he tried was great. But there may be better options from Europe and Australia that maybe less expensive even with shipping.
I use hydrocolloid wound healing bandaids once a fortnight for removing clogs, and a hydrating hydrocolloid gel (pea size) on my face after the morning shower. Has helped my chronic blackhead-looking nose appearance noticeably for the better
Had them all my life as a kid and a teen, was pretty self conscious about it too. It disappeared since I started washing my face with calendula soap in the morning a decade ago. I only now remembered ever even having it by seeing the thumbnail. Thank you Sabateur family!
They re soaps from the Sabateur family in Argentina. Honestly, any cold pressed calendula oil with any mild scrub should do as well. I wouldn't recommend it for hyper-dry skins though. Good luck, everybody
After years of over cleansing my skin, which caused breakouts, I found that just rinsing with water and patting dry was all I needed. One cleansing a week removes any buildup. Salicylic acid products give me sore patches and breakouts.
They’re advice is consistent with an esthetician I saw. She advised ‘you can’t get rid of them’, it’s good to have them and don’t ‘over-do it’ with the oil control products. It’s helpful to hear those products recommended again - Salicylic Acid, BHAs nice! Great video 😃
Pore strips only work if you have open pores. They have never worked for my kids and me since we have closed pores. A lot of the products mentioned can be extremely harmful to some skin. Eczema for example. We can't use them at all. Picture a face with raw skin that looks like severe sunburn. If you're going to use them do a patch test. If you end up getting a raw spot it's better if it's a small one and not your whole face.
Wow those suggestions are for people without any skin conditions even in the presence of acne you should consult your dermatologist first before addressing any dermal issues by yourself
No offense, but these first two sentences prove to me that you don't know much about skincare. The first statement is true, but Pores open and close through-out the day and you can open and close them at will basically. For example take a hot washcloth and let it rest on your face for 10 minutes and it will open up your pores for extraction.
@@joeyhager4632 no offense, but you come off really snarky as someone who doesn’t know shit either. Pores aren’t a muscle they don’t open and close, they dilate and contract. And yes due to genetics someone may have naturally tighter pores than someone else.
@@joeyhager4632 I like the boiling water and using the steam method more, me and my friend used to do that b4 applying pore strips or using exfoliating scrubs.

I haven’t needed them since. I could be happier about finally having an affordable and effective skin treatment option that actually performs well. Thank you a million times over.
Thank you for this! My acne tends to be from clogged pores and I struggle with some of these enlarged sebaceous filaments around my nose and on my chin. I have been using most of these ingredients already and they have helped, but didn’t realize that I could be using the sa cleanser, cerave retinol, and niacinamide in the same routine. I had been alternating the retinol with niacinimide or vit c serum at night. Thanks!
I love how simple and easy to follow your videos are ❤ i have a request, can you talk about what can someone use when they are planning to get pregnant and while they are pregnant.. because a lot of these ingredients like retinols and salicylic acid can’t be used, so what can be used instead? And how can we take care of our skin during that period.. I’m looking forward to hear from you ❤ Thank you we really appreciate you guys so much 😊

Im 39 and ive been using SA and retinol for a long time. Recently i ditched the SA cleanser and started using benzoyl peroxide and my sebaceous filaments disappeared. Great video! Would these products be appropriate for dry, sensitive skin? If not, could you please make a video for how to deal with blackheads/sebaceous filaments if you have dry, sensitive skin? Thank you so much.
I have a question maybe a topic for another video, pimples inside your nose!!!!! They’re brutal and painful, how to prevent or get rid of them would be a huge help. Ik a lot of people who get them too, so it would be very helpful.
Living with chronic pain from childhood and empathize with you in such a deep way. It does rob you of being present with your loved ones and impacts every part of your being. Praying for you to have a pain free gardening season and beyond
I have extremely sensitive skin, so chemical exfoliants, such as those mentioned, have always caused more harm than good for me. Even moisturizers that are considered the most “gentle” give me issues. I realize that my skin is exceptionally touchy, but I have found what works through years of trial and error. For years now, I have simply used jojoba oil alone as a moisturizer, morning and night. I have found that it has cleared most of my sebaceous filaments. My understanding is that the molecules are similar in size to those of sebum, and therefore the jojoba can make its way inside the pores, mix with the oils created by the skin, and act as a lubricant to prevent buildup of hardened sebum. I have small pores, and the simple use of jojoba oil has greatly improved the texture of my skin, and eliminated almost all clogged pores on my nose and chin. Other than the occasional hormonal breakout, I rarely get acne these days. I suffered with it from the age of 13 until my late 20s, but switching to an extremely simple routine with jojoba oil has changed my life. The only other products I use are a gentle glycerine and eggwhite bar soap to cleanse my face at night, and the Elta MD facial sunscreen, which is the only sunscreen I have found that won’t sting or clog my pores. IMO, jojoba oil should be better recognized for the treatment of sebaceous filaments!
What’s your skin care routine? Because I have extremely sensitive skin as well and tried those products but they haven’t worked on my for many months. Thanks!
I use all these key ingredients in my routine but my skin is heavily oily and I still do get the build up. Much improved, for sure, but oh so tempting to grab an extraction tool.
The info and products in this video have improved my complexion SO much. Thank you. I’m loving the Cereve SA cleanser, and the specific serum and retinol you recommended. Also shoutout to the good estheticians, derms, etc out there!
I used to use the Paula’s choice twice a day every single day… maybe for 5 years. It totally stopped working. Now that I only use it periodically, it works so much better. But oil cleansing was the major game changer for me to reduce the build up.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure if subliminals could really help with acne, but after giving the subliminal affirmations on borlest a try, I’m shocked at how much my skin has cleared up. It's like my skin is finally healing naturally.
I do all of these things plus an oil cleanser before my regular cleanser. It’s surprising how well the oil cleanser penetrates into those areas. I can physically feel particles being cleansed off my nose.
Your advice is great, you really care because you are honestly giving brands that are cheap as well as high end but for the most part, you guys are straight forward, love it. Can you do more on hair and hair loss?
It's been 3 months I'm using Salicylic acid on your advice to treat sebaceous filaments and I'm super happy with th results. Finally all those white & blackhead production has minimised. yayyyyyy!
Sooooo, this is my first time watching this video. I have actually used almost all the products mentioned in the video and most of them are pretty good at keeping my oily skin in check.
I took their advice and I now use the Paula’s Choice exfoliant and omg, game changer for sure. My adult acne has been treated (long story) but I still have oily skin and using Paula’s Choice and Cerave has controlled the oil and sebaceous filament black and white heads. It’s crazy and really work for me. Even controls the oil during the day. I swear when I wake up in the morning I feel like I don’t have to wash my face but I still do. If too expensive try the Cerave in white and purple, it’s work great as well. I will incorporate the Cerave in white and turquoise bottle “resurfacing” soon. I use moisturizer day and night and add sunscreen in the am. Tip: I use just a tiny bit on my face and whatever is left I put in the back of my hand also. And my skin on my hand has really brightened as well. Lots of spf, esp when driving.
You two are amazing to watch! I will say, though, that neither the SA nor Tazorac have before with this for me. I am 53 years old and definitely have reaped the benefits of being on prescription retinoids since I was 20 years old, but controlling sebaceous filament clearing is definitely not a benefit for me.
I have this issue. Plus redness and wrinkles starting since I’m 30. I also have a ton of freckles and always thought the different colors were due to that lol. I have started this exact routine and excited to see what my face will look like without all the junk. Will update on how it goes!
I don't have my oily skin;however, I greatly appreciate it because it helps not having wrinkles at 54. While I try to maintain the noise area with minimum oil build up, I make sure not to eliminate completely oil production.
What has worked wonders for me is using a soft exfoliating skin cleanser applying it with a very soft toothbrush in the stubborn areas like my nose. I do that once in a while. They dissapear right away but what I was lacking was a good treatment to prevent them to show up again so fast and your video gave me the amazing tips I was lacking. Tahnk you very much!
I find so much value in these videos and i love that you give product options and variations in opinions so that the consumer can make their own choices!
In addition to bha, retinol, and niacinamide, rosehip oil has been so helpful in reducing oiliness and sebaceous filaments. I resisted the oil cleanse “trend” for so long and I really regret not trying oils earlier.
can attest to retinoids! I've had extremely oily skin my whole life, and as I approach my 30s I started adding retinoids to my routine. I've definitely noticed a decrease in oil production!
as you enter your 40s, you will be thankful for that oil in your younger years. I'm pretty sure it has helped keep away wrinkles from my middle aged skin. I have incorporated retinoids in this decade of my life. I see friends with wrinkled dry skin and consider myself lucky.
I had a problem with blackheads on my nose well into my 20s and early 30s. No amount of scrubbing, squeezing, or cleansers worked. Then I tried the pore strips and the problem disappeared - just like that. After the first two or three uses, I only needed them very sporadically - may once every other month or so.
Pore strips can cause damage. It lifted stuff out of my pores but it also lifted some veins closer to the surface that are sadly permanently more noticeable now.
Hello Dr. Shah and Dr. Max Basically, i have a skincare schedule every night and it is as follows Day 1 - a moisturising cream + Enoliss Perfect Skin (glycolic) Day 2 - moisturizing cream + ketrel cream (tretinoin) Day 3 - a moisturising cream + Enoliss Perfect Skin (glycolic) Day 4 - moisturizing cream + ketrel cream (tretinoin) and so on In short i used each one on alternate days. But in the morning when i apply moisturiser, my skin feels soo shiny at one point. Also i dont feel my skin is where i want it to be. I do have a lot of sebaceous filaments when i washed them in the morning and it's disgusting. I do have one off blind pimples at times. Please advise me

Those pore strips are invaluable for pulling out splinters in hard to reach/see places or for kids who hate tweezers. You just cut off a piece big enough, wet it, wait, and presto! No more painful splinter.
Excellent advice, and I learned a lot from this video.
Oh that's a great tip. My youngest is so bad when it comes to me removing things like splinters, so I'll have to give this a go.
THANKS FOR YOUR CREATIVE TIP. I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT TO USE THE STRIPS IN THAT WAY.👍
Forget about the kids I’m gonna use this myself.
PRID salve is good for pulling out splinters or those invisible pokey things off of plants
Great tip!
@@afaf5708 I’ve never seen anything organic being cheaper then the harmful stuff. Where do you buy your stuff from?
Expensive doesn’t always mean better skincare. Avoid fragrance and “natural ingredients need to be really researched before using on skin. Tree bark is natural, but I’m not putting it on my face.
Funny seeing all these young doctors recommending Paula’s choice BHA. I’ve been using that over 20 years.
Jem - I am sure you have all that you truly need in life already and money doesn’t always make things better, but I can relate to not having the budget to purchase things I want and I want to just speak into existence that you will soon find a level of wealth that gives you freedom to purchase! And so it was! Amen.

Been using these for about 3 weeks and noticing such a difference 😀
do you use sun cream?
@@asjakranjc6279 I never use to, never thought I needed it, as I live in Northern Ireland. But I'm trying to find a good one, so far loving the cerave spf 50, been using it about a week now.
We have the exact same skincare routine oh my god! Those were the first three things I went for too when I dived into skincare around 4 months ago, and it's definitely helping.
in what order do you use them? Well Sacicylic acid first for sure, but whats next?
@@Prlz3 so cerave salicylic cleanser in morning, the ordinary niacinamide, then cerave moisturising spf 50. Then at night either salicylic cleanser again or cerave foaming cleanser if I'm using the paulas choice bha, (I don't want to over exfoliate as it was drying my skin out and irratating it a bit) only use Paulas choice 2-3 times a week, I put the paulas choice straight on my hands then pop it on my face, as i found the cotton pad absorbed most it, then either cerave night Moisturer or keihls ultra face cream (I won the keihls in work, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it 🤣)
Then once a week I'd use the ordinary bha peeling solution, the red liquid face mask, forget the proper name.
I've been so lazy with my skincare this week and noticing my blackheads are coming back ☹️

Oh my gosh! This is THE video I’ve been needing for my whole life since puberty! And I’m 34. Thank you. My number one biggest skin annoyance is those darker colored clogged pores (NOT blackheads). So thank you thank you!
Same here! When I try to Google it all that comes up is blackheads, but it's not blackheads like you said!! Yay!!!
Salicylic acid was too drying for me so I used soap and a wash cloth to gently clean, then squeezed out as many as I could, followed by Vaseline Intensive Care lotion. This worked from my mid-20s until menopause! My skin is beautiful now!

(This channel can tell you more about it I'm sure)
I've also found limiting the fat in my diet seems to help.
Maybe you had oily skin then as you aged it became more dry? I am 33. I noticed my skin is becoming dry. I had oily skin before. Hmm I wonder.

How do you use the Paula's choice?
You might want to change or eliminate your hair conditioner.
At 42, I have finally started trying to do proper skincare, while also reaching my 16 and 13 years Olds a good routine. I've learned so much thru your videos.

Same…..except I’m too lazy to bother……..!
I ALWAYS have blackheads and using those nose strips hurt so much 😭 so I love that you’re giving a skin care routine that avoids this all together
@@Navi405 How do they differ?
@@chipmunkwarcry thank you
@@welovegoldens I've never heard that.
I like putting a cleansing oil on, then washing it in the shower. Then using AHAs and BHAs leave on serums
Can you tell us which one?❤
Hi Clare 👋 what cleansing balm do you use?
Yes, that is actually one step that has helped me the most. Oil/balm cleansing. Any cleansing oil or balm will do. I usually do this at least one a week and really take my time massaging (5 min at least, sometimes I just sit and watch TV and keep massaging), especially around the nose area. That reminds me I should do one oil session today :)
@@sirtsupirtsu even coconut oil? Because I heard it clogges
Double cleansing is amazing!

Nice!
I use salicylic acid + retinoids + niacinimyde and i still get a noodle explosion on my nose :) I don't even know what to do at this point
Wait until you get older and your skin produces less oil. Your oil production is based on your hormones so maybe get those checked?
I'm no expert but I use all of those and the only place I still get blackheads a bit is on the bottom of my nose. My theory is that I'm really good at rubbing my cleanser in a clockwise and couter-clockwise motion on the sides of my nose but not so much underneath.
I've noticed that when I use a cleansing balm consistently, it eliminates this issue as it slowly but steadily dissolves the fats inside the pores every time. Hope it helps :)
Same for me, I feel like I've tried everything

I used to have issue's dealing with this. I found using a hot wet washcloth every other day followed by a very gentle cleanser and moisturizer worked wonders! My pores shrunk down to almost nothing. I am 67 now and have great skin. With an occasional zit! Yuck! With age? Double yuck!
I found using a weekly clay mask helped reduce mine dramatically (Indian Aztec clay)
How do you use it?
The way these two speak about “sebaceous filaments” is typical to someone who hasn’t actually had to deal with large pores and compensatory oil build up. I’ve used salicylic acid, peeling, no moisturizer, added moisturizer, Retinoids, etc. Dealing with blackheads isn’t as simple as they make it out to be. AND the patient in the first clip with the pore strip, I don’t believe that’s to treat “extensive” sebum, for people suffering with this problem we face this amount, like I said, or a very regular basis.
Same, in fact I've heard they can never actually go away, the best you can do is reduce or prevent more from coming.

This. I've used every AHA and BHA treatment going. When I started using prescription Retin-A, that was the first thing that seemed to help at all, but it still only helps a little. And pore strips I find do hardly anything. The SFs are just too deep.

I just wanted to say that I love this channel.. It’s been super informative on how products actually work and if they would even be beneficial to the skin goal I’m trying to reach. I love how you guys include scientific evidence. I can really tell that you guys know what y’all are talking about!!! Would you guys be able to tell more about how these different chemicals interact with each other or best practices on how and when to apply them ?
Was super comfortable watching this content and learning a bit about an area of skin that is bothersome without making it gross or awkward. I will definitely check out more content on this channel.
LOVE the Paula's Choice BHA liquid!
A good slug at night and then a clay mask to soak up the oil it brings out in the morning works great for me.
Yep! And it’s back in stock! Hooray!
Esthetcian in the chat . I’ve always been playing with ingredients to see what make my oily t-zone regulate. Nicianmide serum and gel moisturizer is the queen 👸 it has helped my combination skin and oily t-zone regulate 😁 p.s I love you guys videos .
Brand recommendations?
Same. I have good results with Paula’s Choice niacin amide serum and Clinique moisture surge.

I really think this is way more common then ppl think. I'm just happy to be looking at the eye 👀 candy on the screen. Especially the one on the rite. 2 HOT DOCS..I do actually watch for the regular videos and the advice also. Its just a bonus.....
Dr Shah, found your UA-cam by chance and purchased Paula's choice. I saw results within 2 week and my pores are smaller. Thank you!
I have struggled for so long with exactly this skin condition. This treatment regimen was exactly what I needed to tackle my issues. I used the pore strips once, at the very beginning.
Thanks!
The Ordinary’s Niacinamide was a game changer for me in treating sebaceous filaments. Will never go without it.
I’m looking forward to hear from you ❤
Thank you we really appreciate you guys so much 😊
I have psoriatic arthritis with psoriasis. Cerave face wash pump gives me a rash. The cerave face wash bar works best for me.
I find it so hard to concentrate on what you’re telling us as I’m mesmerised by your eyes!! They are stunning!! All that aside, Thank you for sharing less expensive cures for these pores
Im 39 and ive been using SA and retinol for a long time. Recently i ditched the SA cleanser and started using benzoyl peroxide and my sebaceous filaments disappeared. I think they're still there, but the dark part is gone so my pores look non existent. The ones on my chin however are much more stubborn but my T zone looks incredible
Hey..I'm looking for a similar solution for my nose pores. People think I got blackheads but I don't. Did you use benzoyl peroxide in the form of a gel wash or ointment or something?
Benzoyl peroxide cleanser or a leave on?

What products did you use, share the brands name plz
When it comes to pores and acne Salicylic acid is always at the top, what an amazing ingredient I love it.
Brother I think you are indian so can you please tell what do you use?
@@DK-by4ee what I mentioned in the comment, I love Salicylic Acid. So I use a Salicylic acid cleanser, Retinol, moisturizer and sunscreen other stuff is just waste of money.
This was so informative! Please please please could you do a- the most effective way to treat eczema (atopic dermatitis)
watching this video reminded me of when sebaceous filaments were one of my biggest skincare concerns so i looked at my old photos before i started niacinamide. and wow for me it totally worked. obviously i still have some build up but i didn’t even realize how much progress i made. slow and gradual really is the way
I love how you guys stare at each other after taking turns on talking. Great video super informative!
Really loved this short yet informative video. No bs, only smooth n clean information about skincare awareness. Yay!! Thanks a lot gus.
Again I thank you both!! 😃
My son is 27 and has had acne on and off since he was EIGHT y/o 😳 For years he was prescribed Differin gel before it was OTC. It was costly then even with insurance. Recently he had another bad breakout so after hearing y’all’s AWESOME videos I got him one of the CeraVE face cleansers… OMG it was like night and day 🥲 (happy tears) Thank You Both so much!!! You have not only helped my son but myself, my friends and many many others!! We are ALL so blessed to have you amazing intelligent Dr’s to share your knowledge with all of us on so many platforms, I seriously can’t thank you enough!! God Bless you both for caring 🙏💙🙏
He could be sensitive to inflammation and lower sugar can help too
That’s so great! Going dairy free helps many people greatly reduce their acne also 💖
As another commenters said, try cutting sugar/dairy, and I would add soy. Also check his liver function.
I am super grateful for this video, I am a teen, and have A LOT of black spots of my nose.🙈So this really helped plus what's even better is that it is affordable!!😅Thanks sooo much!!🦋✨
Great video! Would these products be appropriate for dry, sensitive skin? If not, could you please make a video for how to deal with blackheads/sebaceous filaments if you have dry, sensitive skin? Thank you so much.
So the one is talking, and the other one is looking at him with so much love. Aww😊 I love them both😅
I have a question maybe a topic for another video, pimples inside your nose!!!!!
As an esthetician, I absolutely love these videos. Great, concise information!
I like the videos that keep skin care simple, cleanse > exfoliate/treatment > moisturize > sunscreen.
Where had it been all my life? Seriously thank you! I’ve struggled w sensitive skin my whole adult life. Finally made progress thanks to you.
What product you are using
@@alamgeerzaheer2007 Cereve SA cleanser, The Ordinary niacinimide serum (a.m.) and the Versed retinol (p.m.) And cereve moisturizer day and night. Incredible improvement.
Can you tell me if you can use the SA cleanser and then , right after use a retinol ?
I really appreciate you gents, the science, the approach, the product recommendations I really appreciate it as someone with type 3/4 skin it took me yeaaarrrssss of learning this and that to start seeing results and honestly folks like y’all really have been my blessing.
Utter nonsense.
I just bought the Salicylic Acid Masque from The Ordinary for my blackheads. ☺
I do all of these things plus an oil cleanser before my regular cleanser. It’s surprising how well the oil cleanser penetrates into those areas. I can physically feel particles being cleansed off my nose.
wow
Your advice is great, you really care because you are honestly giving brands that are cheap as well as high end but for the most part, you guys are straight forward, love it. Can you do more on hair and hair loss?
I'm so lame, I have no idea what I'm doing
It's been 3 months I'm using Salicylic acid on your advice to treat sebaceous filaments and I'm super happy with th results. Finally all those white & blackhead production has minimised. yayyyyyy!
What you are using sis.....salycylic acid serum or cleanser??.i also have the same problem kimdly share your experience
Sooooo, this is my first time watching this video. I have actually used almost all the products mentioned in the video and most of them are pretty good at keeping my oily skin in check.
I have really noticeable pores & filaments so im going to follow this routine diligently. I'll let you guys know in a month about any results
@@jessicaal415 thanks for the advice, good to hear it worked out for you!
Well?
Update?
Any skin changes?
☠️
They never update..😔
Can you share what brand rosehip oil?
@@MM-kd3cb Ulta has a good one!
love my squalane oil
At what stage of the routine he mentioned do you incorporated the oil
I've seen plain olive oil have great results. Over 70 year old Grandma dosent have any wrinkles
can attest to retinoids!
Love that you give example products it helps so much. Researching is hard and never know what to trust when reading on the Internet.
I use Paula’s Choice liquid exfoliate! It has changed my life!
I had a problem with blackheads on my nose well into my 20s and early 30s. No amount of scrubbing, squeezing, or cleansers worked. Then I tried the pore strips and the problem disappeared - just like that. After the first two or three uses, I only needed them very sporadically - may once every other month or so.
good to know, thank you!
Can u please do a review of minimalist products (Vit c, sunscreen, salicylic acid, moisturizer)
@xin I believe they had. But it is in the weekly q&a. If you can’t find it let me know and I will tag you with the link.
@@jennchristian5759 oh can u please share the link cuz I cant find it btw thank you so much
Pore strips can cause damage. It lifted stuff out of my pores but it also lifted some veins closer to the surface that are sadly permanently more noticeable now.
I used to use them, every couple of months. This makes me scared to use them again.
Hello Dr. Shah and Dr. Max
Basically, i have a skincare schedule every night and it is as follows
Day 1 - a moisturising cream + Enoliss Perfect Skin (glycolic)
Day 2 - moisturizing cream + ketrel cream (tretinoin)
Day 3 - a moisturising cream + Enoliss Perfect Skin (glycolic)
Day 4 - moisturizing cream + ketrel cream (tretinoin) and so on
In short i used each one on alternate days.
But in the morning when i apply moisturiser, my skin feels soo shiny at one point.
Also i dont feel my skin is where i want it to be. I do have a lot of sebaceous filaments when i washed them in the morning and it's disgusting.
I do have one off blind pimples at times.
Please advise me
thanks!
