Bill Gates is not himself releasing mosquitoes into the wild. However, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation did award grants that funded biotech company Oxitec's work to develop genetically modified mosquitoes that may help reduce the spread of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases in certain locations around the world. In April 2021, it was announced that Oxitec would release approximately 150,000 mosquitoes across six locations in Florida. However, the company told Snopes that this particular project was not funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
@@arturvoskanyan2467 the idea behind the project is to add a gene that makes the female mosquitoes die while still allowing the male ones (which do not bite) to reproduce and pass on the gene. That should greatly reduce the number of mosquitoes and reduce risk of Malaria infection.
It's funny, we like to make it as if everything has a reason, but there's thousands of well researched cases of creatures, mutations, plants that have no known purpose. Like why humans are bipedal, why we lost our fur, why mosquitoes exist etc

It actually does work. I went to Dollar General and got two cheap box fans and then went to Home Depot and got some cheap screen and zip ties. Went back home and put it together in my garage. Had a small cook out in my back yard and the mosquitoes were actually more attracted to the fan than us. It killed like 50 of them.

thats the basic principle in the "Mosquito magnet" the difference is the magnet product uses a bait scent, and then when they come investigate they get sucked into a mesh bag and the air flow keeps em in the bag, then you just drawstring it shut when its full and hang em up to dry and die
Can someone explain how and why this works? I cant wrap my head around the physics of why mesh on the backside of the fan catches mosquitos? The backside of a fan draws air in. So would it not make more sense to place mesh on the front side of the fan where the air is exhausted? Thanks

The impressive part is that he sat and hand-counted those 100 mosquitoes
@@heidro1005 did you count too??
@@heidro1005They are 100, give or take. it's hard to say due the text, but it's somewhere around 100.
Protect this man from bill gates at all costs.
Why? What does Gates Do?
@@arturvoskanyan2467gates' breeding genetically modified mosquitoes
@@siulroma4480 Why? what is the purpose?
This man has become a myth in the mosquito community.
I have a question. Does the net use electricity like a traditional zapper?
Not all heroes wear capes
Doing God's work right there. Thank you
Along with Wasps, Mosquitos are mother natures worst mistakes
It's funny, we like to make it as if everything has a reason, but there's thousands of well researched cases of creatures, mutations, plants that have no known purpose. Like why humans are bipedal, why we lost our fur, why mosquitoes exist etc
You've clearly never heard of ticks
So I wonder how many more you could attract soaking the screen in a mixture of water brown sugar and yeast?
Not sure if many because the fan will blow the scent the wrong way. If we put a bucket of stagnant water near the front of the fan, that might work better.
doing God's work, thank you
The Battle against Bill Gates.
How did you attach the nest to the fan though? Xd. This device is replacing the natural mosquito predators but be sure to leave some xd just use at home not outside to respect nature.
Bro is the saviour of humanity. Kudos👍🏽
That's actually what 105 mosquitos looks like..
Well done
So they get sucked up through the back and hit the net in the exhaust?
Im guessing you also put a light source near it and turn off everything else to attract them?
It actually does work. I went to Dollar General and got two cheap box fans and then went to Home Depot and got some cheap screen and zip ties. Went back home and put it together in my garage. Had a small cook out in my back yard and the mosquitoes were actually more attracted to the fan than us. It killed like 50 of them.
You’re doing a service to the world. 😩
If I had a button to kill all fleas ticks flies and mosquitos instantly and forever, I would press it. Humanity should wipe them out
Spider sitting in the corner: “well, guess I can take a day off.”
You’re not insane, Florida’s mosquitos are resilient & massively annoying. Good job 👍
How did they die? The fan blades?
thats the basic principle in the "Mosquito magnet" the difference is the magnet product uses a bait scent, and then when they come investigate they get sucked into a mesh bag and the air flow keeps em in the bag, then you just drawstring it shut when its full and hang em up to dry and die
Does this work with any fan?
I'm tired battling woth mosquitoes with my racket
why is no one talking about the fact that he hand-picked out 100 mosquitos for scale
My dude, what do you do to that beard? Please. Mine looks unkempt regardless of what oils/beard straightener shit I do 😢
what kind of screen do you use? you can buy that at home depot?
A good engineer solves practical problems like this
Interesting! I use a big fan when we’re outside by the fire pit to keep the mosquitos away. Works like a charm.
Can someone explain how and why this works? I cant wrap my head around the physics of why mesh on the backside of the fan catches mosquitos? The backside of a fan draws air in. So would it not make more sense to place mesh on the front side of the fan where the air is exhausted? Thanks
But do they work with flies?
