They are attracted typically to carbon dioxide. If you’re spending a long time in the shop, especially if you have multiple people in there, you’re exhaling and a lot of carbon dioxide. Some people are also more attracted by mosquitoes for various reasons. Mosquitoes can smell the carbon dioxide from a long way away so they’re probably heading your direction looking for that sweet, sweet blood and then they get trapped by the fan. If you wanna catch even more find a way to produce carbon dioxide for example, from dry ice and you’ll catch ungodly amount more. Trust me. There’s varies videos on UA-cam showing you how to do this. You basically already have started the process but you could even wrap it up.

The Spartans and the fan are doing two different things. You are supposed to put the spartan up before mosquito season, so that eventually when the first mosquito comes and feeds on it, it becomes infertile and unable to have children, which leads to less mosquitos. The fan is just killing already existing mosquitos. Both will work, just differently.
Edit: I see that you’re like an exterminator or something so you probably have experience with these, so I’m wondering what your reservations are about the Spartans? Here in Texas they work wonders at my house.
