Dont even waste time with the yeast and brown sugar, just get several beets from the grocery store and blend them up in the blender and add the beet to the water in the black bucket along with some dawn, the beets contain a compound called Geosmin that is used by researchers to trap mosquitos, its found naturally in the soil and comes up in an aeroso form when it rains and that attracts the mosquitos, the mosquito larvae die in the bucket because the dawn prevents them from leaving when they mature. I use beet peels in my bug zapper and that attracts hundreds of thousands of mosquitos and stops the cycle after they die and the larvae die in the bucket. I'm going on two years now since I first used the beets and the mosquito population is still down to virtually nothing and last season had some record rain.

Supposedly the mosquito will land on the side of the wet sock, lay eggs, the larvae will go into the water and once they hatch they are stuck under the window screen that sits slightly above the water line. I have a tip for gnats that swarm your face.
Put on a hat and put something tall in it. The annoying pests actually go to the top of the target (you are the target), and thus will stay clear of your face.
I know it sounds stupid, but I tested it in my pasture. It worked. I was stunned.
For black flies (biting fly that is bigger than a gnat, and smaller than a housefly) spread a product called “Save the Baby” wherever your clothing ends…collars, wrist, sleeves…as well as around your hairline. They like those protected margins. The product is similar to Vicks vapor rub, but works better. I don’t know why. I tested this in upstate NY and Virginia. It works.

One good way to stop that is to grow lavender, ( kills fleas too), lemon grass, lemon garlic, peppermint, sweet mint and spearmint. Either grow it in pots,(as it can become invasive), or place in planters around the patio area and it will stop the buzzing because the flying pests don't like the fragrant plants. I had rain barrels in the garden near the house. When they are full of larvae easily seen swimming near the surface, I'd squirt some liquid soap into the barrel making it impossible for the larvae to breathe and they die. Mosquitos will use open water in broad daylight to lay eggs which hatch in a day or two.

The key to successful mosquito control is totally wipe out the source where mosquitos lay there eggs which isn’t realistic, that being said the best approach is to identify the source of water they lay their eggs and treat that source with a larvicide. Coconut oil in food grade liquid form applied to pools of standing water with active larvae present will drown the larvae before they emerge as adult biting mosquitos.

You can also build a fly trap. Make a cylinder or cube shaped trap with screening on all sides with an opening at the bottom of the trap. Form an inverted cone attached to the bottom of the trap. The small inverted cone opening is in the middle of the space inside the trap. Put fly bait in the bottom of the trap, which is slightly raised from the ground. The flies are attracted to the bait. When the flies are ready to fly away, their natural tendency is to fly upward. It’s very unnatural for flies to go downward to leave the bait. Then the flies buzz around the inverted cone and walk up the inverted cone, and then the flies trap themselves. It’s very difficult for the flies to find the small opening in the inverted cone, and if they find the opening, they usually re-trap themselves because it’s very unnatural for flies to try to fly or walk downward to escape the trap. Over time, you’ll catch hundreds of thousands of flies. You can put the fly trap in a large container of water for several hours to shorten the time for them to die. But when there are hundreds of trapped flies that are buzzing around in the fly trap, that will attract more flies which will also be caught. The flies do all the work to catch themselves. The bait needs to be changed every couple of days. After several days, you’ll notice a significant decrease in the number of flies you see flying around your yard.

Then when they grow they can't get back out through the screen. When they successfully lay eggs in water it puts out chemicals that draw more mosquitos to lay eggs there. You really have to get rid of other water pools sitting around so they are more likely to lay eggs in the trap water. Soap in the water isn't good for birds and other wildlife if they drink it.

Hi Jag, thanks for your info. I went to a hardware shop to get a black bucket. Guess what. On the way I got attacked driving the motorbike by thousands of black mosquitoes. You're right. They're smart. And evolving. I think they were mosquitoes with modified DNA. WHO does this?
Thanks for making me laugh. I will try it out. What's also a very good solution is the mosquito traps from Black Hole. You need to take care that you buy the original ones. Bit expensive.

So great to hear the new idea how to catch Mosquitoes and larvae,
I immediately went out and put some black bucket outside. I really want to see it for myself. It was amazing in your video. and I am going to do The rest of your suggestion with the East and sugar (that’s exactly what you do when you break a blade)
How often do you need to change the east solution?
So much thanks for your information

My answer to the mosquito problem is, i walk over to my hammock with a electric fly swatter. I lay down and use my body to attract them. I swat lots of them. When I do this a few times, i don't get bothered the rest of the summer. Good video from Sacramento

One of those yeaast packets is about a dollar. The brown sugar costs money. Mosquitos are attracted by heat and carbon dioxide. A compost pile generates a lot of heat and carbon dioxide for free. The cost of an electric bug zapper is as low as $20 which is like 20 packets of yeast. If you hang one of those illuminated bug zappers over a pipe coming out of a compost pile container, it might get zillions of mosquitos.

      Have you tried it?

No. If the pile is in a bin and the pipe is the only outlet it would probably have a lot of CO2 and heat coming out. There are ways to accelerate composting from months down to two weeks. That would greatly increase the amount of heat and CO2.. The heat coming up might create enough of a draft to push misquitos into a net trap with a bottleneck from which they could not fly out of because of the draft. It might work better than a propane trap that costs hundreds of dollars. Or a little solar powered fan to push the mosquitos into a net trap would cost very little.

How often do you recommend changing the bucket ?

Great video. Late October, UK and I've never seen so many mosquitoes and gnats, they're getting in the house and making life a misery - eaten alive. Several traps and preventatives work for awhile, but your ideas seem well worth a try✌️👍💜🤞😊

I never heard about using a black bucket but will try that. Right now I have a mosquito magnet in my backyard & it's been running since early spring. It caught a lot of them in the beginning but there aren't many now. I just bought some Sparta mosquito traps and will be checking them after 30 days. Was using a blue bucket but will go buy a few black ones and put mosquito dunks in them as they have always worked. Thanks for the tips. FLY NAVY!!!

I came across your video and was curious. I stayed because your humor about mosquitos taking over the universe made me laugh. Good video.

Hummingbirds 'love to eat mosquitos' (their probable main food source) ... not only use a hummingbird feeder, but also plant flowers that which attracts hummingbirds: large 'clumps' of ... **bee balm**, cone flowers, **cardinal flowers**, zinnias, etc. etc. (also attracts 'clear-wing'/hummingbird moths & 'other garden pollinators' !!!)
If you live in the eastern US where only 'highly territorial' ruby-throated hummingbirds predominate .... plant the attractive flowers in 'clumps' in multiple far distant & separated as possible locations on your property. To attract hummingbirds to establish their territories in mid-early spring, I put up 2" wide X 18" long RED ribbons and simply tie them to tree branches near my early installed hummingbird feeders - those feeders should be 'up' well before the hummingbirds arrive..
