@@abendrot___8055 The acrylic paint will be unable to stick to the oil paint, so it will flake off. This can sometimes happen very quickly, almost as soon as the acrylics dry, or sometimes it can take weeks. In any case, the acrylic will definitely flake off at some point.
That really only applies to paint in process or recently painted mediums. If the oil paint is completely dried, in this case many years /decades old, it won’t matter about adding an acrylic medium over the top of oil. The theory of “fat over lean” still applies to any new paint but the ancient archival stuff has long lost any liquid/oil component over time
KawaiiKaptian that’s not exactly the reason . Oil takes much longer to dry and if you paint over the top of oil with either acrylic or less dilute oil paint you’ll end up with that distinctive crazing /crackling that you often see in novice oil paint artists work. Remember the “fat over lean” principle - basically always put the quicker drying /less oil saturated layers beneath thicker oilier layers and you’ll be ok
But you know one day , the oil will run out . At least that is what the peak oil theory states . I believe that oil keeps gushing from underneath the earth . Because we have capped well that ran dry and 3 years later oil is in the hole once again in abundance 🙌🏻 so where does the oil come from ?
Always check what your painting IS online before painting over it. ALWAYS. I almost painted over a $130 dollar painting I got for 2 dollars at a thrift store because they don't check it.
On one hand, yes, be careful and have respect for what you’re painting on. On the other, I’ve seen paintings sans skill or care go for 200-1200 at art swaps bc the buyers didn’t know what they were buying. Besides that, art is a good and a service and you pay for both, so value doesn’t necessarily reflect the value of the piece itself, and beside ALL of that, 130 dollars is the price of an amateur piece generally, so you would’ve been fine painting over it
Ghoul Pen I think why some people werent happy with this video is because they wanted her to do something more respectful with the paintings and forgot about the part where they were abandoned and was probably gonna get thrown in the garbage, if she didnt pick them up. On the other hand if you totally destroyed a persons work for your own and others entertainment, disregarding the artist’s hard work, that would be totally disrespectful. Kasey REDESIGNED the art, if she didn’t it might have been thrown away.
You might not care too much but just in case you don't know: acrylic can't bond to oil paint so it won't last forever, but oil over acrylic is totally fine.
@@tessac8048 I'm not too sure actually, you'd have to do some research yourself. Oil paintings can be varnished after 6 months, so you'd think they are fairly dry at that point, but apparently they still won't bond properly.
If you really want to paint on your grandfather paintings but dont want to "ruin" them you could paint on a transparent film or a glass on top of the painting so that it is on top but not really on the painting 🤔🌚
@@101Cutecupcake well yeah pretty much. It's someone else's work which they sold vs the paintings a member of her family who may be dead made. The other artist sold their art and it eventually wound up in a thrift store while her grandfather's work has value towards her family.
@@boopy6430 I mean you don't know the story of the art. For all you know the artist could have died themselves and their family donated their stuff or something. I personally wouldn't paint over anyone's artwork but to each their own.
Theres a video on the Threadbanger channel of Rob taking thrift art, painting on them, and then putting them back into the thrift shop to be sold again. It's quite an interesting concept
As someone who works in an op shop (Australian version of a thrift store) I can say that paintings that aren't sold will be destroyed after a certain amount of time on the floor. Kasey made sure these didn't get thrown away and possibly extended their "life" expectancy. She did a good. Edit: I’m an artist as well and if someone had brought a piece of my work and drawn over it I wouldn’t care. It’s like a collaboration between two artists. The art isn’t entirely Kasey’s and it’s not entirely the original artist’s either. Kasey didn’t defame the person she merely gave it a face lift.
@weeby weeb I'm going to be realistic here and say that if they are dead... What are they gonna do about that? When I die I literally don't care what happens to my work, I'm dead and gone and I wanna be in peace. This sounds really harsh but the dead don't need it anymore. You have to come to peace with things and someone continuing and transforming my art after I'm dead is honestly a nice way to pay tribute to myself. Art is meant to be shared with others and showing your own little world and universe and someone introducing their world with mine is just amazing. As long as intentions are pure then what's the problem?
Saw your recent thrift shop art and was really sad to hear about the response to this one and how it affected you, especially since I remembered really enjoying this one. Came back to watch again and see how your art has grown. Also wanted to leave a nice comment on the pile, and I'm really hoping that if you have fun doing thrift artwork that there'll be more! 😊😊
My dad works in an auction house so ive spent a lot of time in there, and i am pretty sure ive seen a barrister painting go for around $200. Edit: ive asked around a bit at some of the people who work there, barrister signed paintings were made namely in the seventies. Some paintings have been sold for more than $1000, however it is mostly aesthetic and/or sentimental value. Paintings this size in good shape can easily be sold for more than $200 though. Couldve been a great find in a thrift store.
Adding belated love to this video. This was the first video of yours I ever saw and I didn’t like it at the time because I had very narrow expectations of what I thought you should do with a thrifted painting. BUT you had so much fun with it and were so pleased with the results, PLUS it matched your existing art style, so I knew that no disrespect was intended, so I wasn’t one of the people who left a mean comment. I make an effort not to leave mean comments on anyone’s videos but in this case I didn’t want to taint your obvious joy. It makes me sad that so many people were mean about it that it made you cry because I think back to that video pretty often when I’m watching your latest videos and compare my initial reaction to how I feel about it now. Seven years of watching your videos has inspired me to be less precious with my own artwork and to embrace the silliness inherent in creating. I mentally credit you when I look a lot of the silliest things I’ve ever made because I don’t know if I would have ever made them without remembering you calling your own work “silly” and meaning it as a compliment. And when I saw the title of your newest video, my initial reaction was excitement because my attitude toward this video has changed so much throughout the years. All that to say what I’m sure you already know, people’s reactions to you are more about them than about you. Keep doing you. ❤
One thing I used to struggle with with acrylic was wasting paint as well! I would mix colors that I wasn't satisfied with and just keep adding more paint. Might be obvious, but if you ever run into this, cutting the piles in half and working with one half saves a lot of paint
There's a pallette for acrylic, you can save some of your paints on it, keep it from get hard. Also I've heard from channel called Dollightful, she uses a bit of water on paper towel, put transparent plastic film on top of it (I think? I don't really know, I don't use acrylic anymore) and you can use acrylic longer than it used to be. She uses acrylic for her doll, so she dilutes it with water a bit
@@Twilight-owo that works for oils, but not acrylics. I've tried it with acrylics before, but my paints dried out before I had the chance to use them again.

oh no... kasey.. painting acrylic on top of oil is not a good idea. it can crack and peel off and really damage the whole piece. oil over acrylic is fine though.
After seeing the iPad work you did on top of the paintings you could totally do a version where you do that to famous pieces like Mona Lisa or the screamer or that melty clock one and add your flair to it.
I personally wouldn't do this kind of thing cause I feel like I would be disrespecting the original artist, they had a vision and an idea when they made those paintings come to life. That's just my thinking though.
@@appricott4 I get were your comeing from but it may not be the artist that are donating them. Its just if I think of someone painting over one of my paintings really upsetting. I wouldn't give them away but my great granddaughter might.
@rot ok yes of course and that makes sense it is probably the case but there might be a chance that they didn’t like the painting and thought that someone else might
@@appricott4 I 100 percent agree. That could be the case but there's no way of knowing. But I think at the end of the day it makes me upset but I'm going to have to deal with it because at some point my work is going to be distroyed or paintined over. I just don't want to do that to someone else.
I've literally seen "or worse" 4 times in my life in comments similar to this, and my question is: HOW MUCH OLWORSE CAN IT GET? what's so mysterious about using acrylics over oils??? Or is this just some coincidence in my life, that 4 separate people decided to be all weird about this?
The first two paintings looked like oil, and the last one looked like acrylic, and I think that's why it applied better. And the acrylic paint going over the oil is definitely why the ghost was weird and bumpy.
@@inkbery4473I don't really know the "or worse" scenario, but the paint just cracking, crumbling down or separating could be a typical reaction. It may not happen straight away too, sometimes the painting would last a couple of years if you're lucky, but it's nowhere as durable as other acrylic or oil paintings, which are supposed to endure decades.
I once found a painting of Mincraft Steve and bought it because it was basically a blank canvas with Steve, but once I took ot home I thought it was too glorious to paint over lol
When you buy something, it becomes your property. You own it. As such, whatever you choose to do to it is your perrogative. If someone buys a original form me and draws all over it, I dont care. Its not mine anymore.
I thought the video was super cute and fun to watch. Im glad you seemed to enjoy this project! As someone who has sold original of my work before... I honestly dont care what happens after someone buys it. 🤷 If i enjoy the piece i photograph it before selling. Thats my way of keeping it as i wanted. After that its up to the new owner. Ive had commissioners get inked pieces from me and later ask if they could try coloring themselves... Why would i stop them? They bought it, its there art now. All i require is that they dont take credit for the original. 🤔 Otherwise if im that attached i dont sell it...

@@BacadoTheSkoggy she did. The Barrister. It's not a ridiculous amount for it but I saw another comment say $200. It's honestly quite sad. The original painting was quite beautiful.
19:24 Might have been more simple but it was a better choice for your work than the previous ones. Because in the end your style and the simple painting worked well.
TheInklet they mean they aren’t originals. Artists keep their original art, then make the art again exactly as they did before to sell. These were in charity shops, so they weren’t worth much, and they aren’t one of a kind. It’s scary at first, but these over paintings aren’t all that bad. What you should actually be worrying about is ancient murals being ruined by untrained artists paid to “fix” them or being graffitied. This was making the most of art that would be easily discarded.
Just a general FYI, and I know this is almost 2 years later, but if you spray some warm water on the back of a dented canvas, it will stretch and flatten again. Just put it on the dented areas, and it will be good as new.
A lot of comments are upset by this... but: 1) It's possible it's not the original, so it doesn't matter. 2) If they ARE originals, why are they in thrift shops? If the artist or the artist's family didn't keep them, or sell them to something more than the equivalent of a Goodwill, it's not worth that much (and even if they were, money isn't everything, sheesh!), and they certainly don't care that much about it. My grandma was an artist. She died four years ago, and I have all of her pieces still to this day. The thought of taking them to the thrift store *in the first place* is more disrespectful than somebody buying them there and painting on top of it. I would never take my grandmother's pieces to the thrift store, and if that's how some of those pieces ended up there, I'd be more mad at my family who donated them there, than at the person who bought them to do as they wish. This is also a MUCH better use of the paintings, considering if (some) thrift stores get too many donated than they can sell, they will end up in the trash anyways! Y'all need to calm down.
how is the thrift store disrespectful? At least that gives people who can't afford expensive pieces a chance to appreciate art personally. Someone painting over your art, and posting it on youtube for revenue, now that is disrespectful.

not saying youre completely wrong but im pretty sure these were originals considering the original brush strokes had visible dimension, u can see the amount of older paint when the camera zooms
I feel like this is similar to buying a vintage piece of clothing and getting it altered to your measurements. She's adding on to the story, not destroying it. She's giving it a new life where it'll be loved rather than be at risk to be destroyed if it didn't sell.
FreckledMiss I feel like people get to into opinions like this. She isn’t disrespecting these she is adding to them. Weather you like it or not it’s not our opinions of her art to judge if she should have done this or not. Plus they were in a thrift store I doubt the people would get so hurt by this.
Everyone is so upset over kasey painting in these pieces of art, yet they were donated to a thrift store, for very cheap. Honestly lots of people would probably take out the painting and just use the frame so it’s at least getting used. I just don’t understand the fuss.
Idk personally I would be highly offended if someone did that ti my art. Who cares if I donated it to a thrift store? Who cares if they sold for basically nothing. I gave it away because I expected it to be handled decently. It just gives off a vibe of: your art isn't special enough since it was just lying around so I took it and made my own thing out of it.
I disagree with so many of the comments here. This idea is absolutely beautiful- You are taking art which is on sale, forgotten, given away, and you are reimagining it, giving it new life. You are fusing your refined, cartoony, sylistic art style with these traditional styles, and it is so freaking cool. I'm an artist and I work in both more traditional styles and stylised characters, and if one of my artworks was used for this purpose, I would be beaming. The hate you are getting is extremely unjustified and I fully support you. x
I agree! To be honest, most of those paintings are probably from some guy's bob ross phase. Looks pretty, but if you've ever watched Bob Ross paint, he specializes in making it look like a lot of work went into something with minimal effort. Now, I'm not saying this is definitely the case, but it's totally how a *lot* of those paintings get made. It's about creating something, not about what's created. Those artists, either they've moved on with their art in different directions, or they've moved on from art entirely. One of those paintings was 40 years old. That guy's probably doing WAY different stuff now.
@@messybarb4106 I totally see where you are coming from, and I dont mean disrecspet, but like those are paintings nobody cared about, why should they sit there alone, when an artist wants to make new art out of them?? It might be "silly" but without it, they would be another old painting stuck in a thrift store.
I like your honesty here-- "I just right in.... I was getting impatient." I also paint on old canvases that I find or buy. I've done it a couple of times. Not many people on the internet have liked them but my husband loves them and loves having them up in our house. An issue you might have later is that you used acrylic over (most likely) oils and varnish. Oils and acrylics don't often mix. I haven't done it so I'm not sure if it will peel eventually or if something else happens. It's just one of those, "oh hey, these things don't work," type of advice from whatever classes I've taken. I also remind myself, when people are so shocked that I'd paint over a painting, that if anyone wanted the painting or if it was worth anything, it wouldn't have been in a thrift shop.
My heart hurts a little for painting over an existing painting, but then I remembered, I probably would not have brought the original for even the price of the thrift store, and the store would have likely tossed it out after a few weeks, but I would have brought the ghost in the lake because my interests lies in the realistic nature and animation so it was a good blend for me.
@@KatalaniaSol Ace of Clay has an entire series on his channel doing this. Or Threadbanger has done an episode where they just spray painted them black and painted red eyes on them. Both large channels & Zero outrage.
So going from that, if I'm rich, that means I can buy the Mona Lisa, a pyramid and other cultural heritages of the world, and because I paid money it would be my right to be able to deface or destroy them? Capitalistic indoctrination full success, big oof
My favorite is the one with all the cats. The background suits them best. My second favorite is the one with the pink blobby guys. The background there blends a bit better than the ghost one.
Actually their paintings haven't been bought at those highest price, read someone looked it up and the highest someone bought their painting was 29 dollars
The biggest difference in acrylic and watercolor painting from my perspective was you work dark to light instead of light to dark. I start with a light to mid tone to outline and put basic forms then go in with more defined strokes working dark to light. Also you should try working in thinner layers and see if you prefer that. The dry time definitely tests your patience. I have ruined a piece by working too quickly
Imagine the artist on their deathbed and their last words are: I wonder if someone is painting naked pink dudes over my masterpiece that was sold to a thrift store :/
I can understand how they'd think of it as vandalism, but it's really not that bad. It's taking other pieces and acknowledging the original creator (if known), showing their work that they've paid for, then respectfully adding to it.
Tip for acrylics!! There are these things you can buy to keep your paint fresh for MONTHS. It’s called the Sta-Wet palette. It’s basically a tupperware container with a wet sponge in the bottom and palette paper on top, and because of the wet sponge, your paints dont dry out when you arent using them. Its so useful for when you want to put down a painting for a while, but don’t want to remix your colors. Plus you waste so much less paint because you can use the paints so many times! I really recommend it!!
When fellow art students and I can't afford really large canvases for painting projects we just buy and paint over whatever we can find at VV or goodwill
Be careful though. You could find something that is worth a lot of money. Just becuase the art sits in Goodwill doesn't mean a thing. There are a lot of people who are clueless about art, and if a piece is painted by an artist who is known are not.
Hahahaha loved the moment when you were trying to remember the word abstract! Hahahah so I think this is a super fun video! Gave these thrift store painting another life and another chance to be seen. This is a great way to give a discarded painting a second chance hahaha
I agree this was a really fun idea, there's s much unwanted stuff in the world it's cool to see something that would very likely otherwise end up in the trash get a second chance at bringing someone a bit of enjoyment!
would people stop hating on this? I love it, she apologized to the artists (indirectly, but she said in this video) and the paintings have probably been sitting in the thrift store getting no attention until she bought them. Not to mention, SHE bought them and can so whatever she wants with them. You did amazing kasey :)
I'm not upset that she painted on someone else's painting (that's actually funny and cute). I'm mad she didn't take the time to practice with and learn a new media before embarking on the project. Acrylics are very fun to use, ONCE YOU LEARN HOW. They are not like water colors at all. Kasey, since you asked for tips: Golden is a great paint, very high quality, very high pigment. First mix your color, then you add water to the paint on the pallet and blend the water thoroughly into the paint. A little paint goes a very long way. You can affect the transparency somewhat with how much water you add. If you are very careful you can even mimic a watercolor effect, but that takes a good bit of practice.
Hell she can skip the practice by spending a bit more to buy a glazing medium. Even a few minutes of research would show how different watercolor is from acrylic
Just jumping in is how I learn. Also Golden paint works just fine not adding water either. It's my favorite method of use, its whatever you enjoy! Dont listen to the haters! :)
@@skakdiamc exactly , better you use retarder or special acrylic thinner , it wont break the bound of the binder , you can add at least 3-10% of Water without breaking it , but recomend never use water to thin the colors.
A lot of artists do this or similar it's called appropriation. (I queried it with my tutor, I'm a mature student and still have issues understanding copyright etc and all the terminology) Oliver Jeffers does it in large scale paintings and as some of his illustrations in his books. I saw some of his large painting 'collaborations' in London recently and he signs his name alongside the original artist which I thought was a lovely way to honour the original art and now the new one it had become. I enjoyed this video and love that you hate filming in public.

Thats my opinion though. I feel really bad for the original artists. I feel like if she just didnt go as far, they wouldve been really cute. But yeah, just my opinion, some people probably like them.
I think you should’ve got fluid paint anyway since you’re not making paintings with texture (like the trees in the original paintings) your work in this was flat and opaque and fluid acrylic makes that style very easy to achieve because it spreads so much easier My two cents
Lmao she didn't ruin it. that's actually really insulting to her art. Fellas, i know my art is trash, you dont need to point that out. An artist of that skill level can easily pull off that small and that simple of a landscape. Then it went to a thriftstore. Then kasey bought it. Its her property and she can do whatever she wants with it.
@@whatthehck4604 you seem to forget that painting is not just a hobby some people actually need to sell paintings (not only comissions but also personal pieces). Selling a piece absolutely does not equal that the artist doesn't care about it any more. I absolutely adore her style but that does not change the fact that she erases someone elses work. Not to forget that those three paintings were really good quality for something that you find at a thriftstore. She could've taken the beat up piece and actually patch it up. To finish she doesn't even use a proper medium over the oil paint. Acrylics do not work well with oil paint and is prone to break or shift colour. I’m in the minority that likes this concept. And Kasey is not the first to collaborate with old art work but I enjoyed the final outcomes especially on the last painting.
orenji this isn’t sex they were old thrift store paintings sewing new life. This isn’t a new concept so I don’t see why everyone is freaking out about it. Those paintings would sit in the thrift store for ages. Now they have a new home.
Grace Sellers - You were the one who used the term “collaborate” not me. I was just clarifying that the words definition literally means more than one person working together on something. Either way, in regards to your point, I can only reply with my opinion as an artist. Every artist should know what it feels like to put time and effort into a piece. The feeling you get when someone buys your piece because they appreciate it and want to hang it in their home is something that’s hard to put into words - even if it sells for $1. Even if it ends up in a thrift store 40 years later. Those pieces could’ve been appreciated by someone as they were intended. I wouldn’t want the original theme of my pieces altered to someone else’s unless I made it a point to say it was okay to do that and was looking to collaborate with people online. And by the way she painted on an oil painting with acrylic. You don’t do that if you intend on keeping the pieces for long. It damages the oil painting underneath. She may not have been aware though. This is just my opinion though. It hurt to watch this video 😖

This a really creative idea, i like the last two. The first ones idea is also good.... but it bothers me that you covered up what, in my opinion, is the grab of the painting with the two gorgeous trees on the left. You easily couldve executed your idea by maybe sliding the giant ghost more in the center, as well as maybe a bit smaller. Its not a big deal... it just personally bothers me (...a lot...) This is object customization at the next level. Go from painting Littlest pet shops and Pokemon cards to customizing paintings. Honestly I find that interesting. Edit: I also feel like the ghost one was the best. It kind of looks like it was part of it originally.
My grandma has been painting 'bob ross style' before he was even born man. I love her paintings, they're so intricate and beautiful I could never. It's a little scary to see someone painting on original art, I just know how many weeks my grandma puts into her paintings and she would be so sad to see someone doing this to her work. Then again my family would never let her paintings end up at a second hand shop but it's a little sad to think that somebodies legacy could be dumped at a thrift store by uncaring relatives or strangers if they pass away and have no family to take there belongings. My grandmas paintings are so special to her, if she ever passed away our whole family would probably divide up her paintings to keep to remember her by because she put so much time and love and effort into each one. I love your channel and I absolutely understand that everyone views art differently and just because my family views art like a part of ourselves doesn't mean everyone else does and I did love your additions to the paintings they are very cute. I did not post this to judge or offend you I was just wanting to share my thoughts.
The $1000 barrister painting on eBay hasn’t sold 4 weeks later and the price has already been reduced. - I doubt it will sell If you look at completed sales the highest price for a barrister is $29

Pro tip. i learned this from my collage professor. Do not use acrylic on top of oil. but you can use oil on top of acrylic.
That’s exactly what I was thinking while she was painting, lol
But you know one day , the oil will run out . At least that is what the peak oil theory states . I believe that oil keeps gushing from underneath the earth . Because we have capped well that ran dry and 3 years later oil is in the hole once again in abundance 🙌🏻 so where does the oil come from ?
You should do a video where you recreate your grandfathers paintings, and compare your style and his side by side.

Besides that, art is a good and a service and you pay for both, so value doesn’t necessarily reflect the value of the piece itself, and beside ALL of that, 130 dollars is the price of an amateur piece generally, so you would’ve been fine painting over it
Maybe off camera she did look it up just in case???
Ghoul Pen I think why some people werent happy with this video is because they wanted her to do something more respectful with the paintings and forgot about the part where they were abandoned and was probably gonna get thrown in the garbage, if she didnt pick them up. On the other hand if you totally destroyed a persons work for your own and others entertainment, disregarding the artist’s hard work, that would be totally disrespectful.
Kasey REDESIGNED the art, if she didn’t it might have been thrown away.
One of the paintings said Barrister... And it was selling pieces at 140 bucks (hopefully this one was a fake!)
I have the same frozen winter scene. That one seems to be a repeat.
You might not care too much but just in case you don't know: acrylic can't bond to oil paint so it won't last forever, but oil over acrylic is totally fine.
Love these art tips :D!!
I'm assuming its because oil paints never really dry?
@@tessac8048 I'm not too sure actually, you'd have to do some research yourself. Oil paintings can be varnished after 6 months, so you'd think they are fairly dry at that point, but apparently they still won't bond properly.

If you really want to paint on your grandfather paintings but dont want to "ruin" them you could paint on a transparent film or a glass on top of the painting so that it is on top but not really on the painting 🤔🌚

This should be a trend, like artist chain mail
Kasey didn’t defame the person she merely gave it a face lift.
i as an artist would rather get my art destroyed than let some one paint on it... you can just cover it all up or don't paint on my stuff at all
Thank you
no
@weeby weeb I'm going to be realistic here and say that if they are dead...

My dad works in an auction house so ive spent a lot of time in there, and i am pretty sure ive seen a barrister painting go for around $200.
Edit: ive asked around a bit at some of the people who work there, barrister signed paintings were made namely in the seventies. Some paintings have been sold for more than $1000, however it is mostly aesthetic and/or sentimental value. Paintings this size in good shape can easily be sold for more than $200 though.

OMG yes... thank you for the tip, I will remember that for next time!
If you have extra paint in the end you can take a plastic ziplock bag and put the paint in it! Then use it again for another project!
Omg why have I never thought about this. Like, it's not even that difficult. Thank you so much
There's a pallette for acrylic, you can save some of your paints on it, keep it from get hard.

Acrylic really shouldn't be used on top of oil. It doesn't work out well after a while, and can very often peel or discolor. Or worse 💀
^ this is really important comment, pretty sure she's painting over oil paintings here.
@@melissaclair1508 oh, well, that's just an every-day artist struggle, isn't it
@@inkbery4473I don't really know the "or worse" scenario, but the paint just cracking, crumbling down or separating could be a typical reaction. It may not happen straight away too, sometimes the painting would last a couple of years if you're lucky, but it's nowhere as durable as other acrylic or oil paintings, which are supposed to endure decades.

TheInklet they mean they aren’t originals. Artists keep their original art, then make the art again exactly as they did before to sell. These were in charity shops, so they weren’t worth much, and they aren’t one of a kind. It’s scary at first, but these over paintings aren’t all that bad. A lot of comments are upset by this... but:
1) It's possible it's not the original, so it doesn't matter.

I wonder how barrister got into a thrift shop? Usually their paintings are worth a lot
Parker Rose it could’ve been a fake. that happens sometimes with thrift store art.
Actually their paintings haven't been bought at those highest price, read someone looked it up and the highest someone bought their painting was 29 dollars
Elly actually the original paintings are worth $200 - $600
There is a similar one on eBay for $600
The biggest difference in acrylic and watercolor painting from my perspective was you work dark to light instead of light to dark. I start with a light to mid tone to outline and put basic forms then go in with more defined strokes working dark to light. Also you should try working in thinner layers and see if you prefer that. The dry time definitely tests your patience. I have ruined a piece by working too quickly
I'll keep that in mind, wow! Thanks!
Imagine the artist on their deathbed and their last words are: I wonder if someone is painting naked pink dudes over my masterpiece that was sold to a thrift store :/
i don't understand the (minor) backlash against this video. You took abandoned paintings no one cared about and gave them new life on the Internet.
hi yes i love you and i agree

The 3rd one is my absolute favourite, Love the cats everywhere!!

Be careful though. You could find something that is worth a lot of money. Just becuase the art sits in Goodwill doesn't mean a thing. There are a lot of people who are clueless about art, and if a piece is painted by an artist who is known are not.

I really loved the last one with the cats!! Especially the large cats out in the water!!
She is an artist i think she knows how to paint 😑 You dont have to teach her
Have... y'all never heard of trial and error??
Love the 3rd canvas you did with the kitties. Reminds me a bit of Studio Ghibli art.
I enjoyed this video and love that you hate filming in public.
hi! this is an old comment but wouldn't it be more appreciation? like Oliver Jeffers, she's honoring the art and adding another story onto the canvas. I'm not sure though haha.
The winter scene one is my favoriteeeee! I want to try this.. but mostly just want one from you

Yeah i was honestly hoping she would do something small and cute, but I do honestly think she just ruined them. I thought the last one would be cute with a little boat and a couple cats, then she put like 50 cats and covered up the thing that actually looked cute (the boat ) in that painting. Thats my opinion though. I feel really bad for the original artists. I feel like if she just didnt go as far, they wouldve been really cute. But yeah, just my opinion, some people probably like them.
I hope she doesn't convince her mom to give her the paintings her grandpa made...
And WeroNoYume is redrawing famous paintings in her style!
the second one feels very adventure time-y to me :0 i love it!
I think you should’ve got fluid paint anyway since you’re not making paintings with texture (like the trees in the original paintings) your work in this was flat and opaque and fluid acrylic makes that style very easy to achieve because it spreads so much easier
My two cents
imagine someone just watching kasey ruin their 5 hour painting
I mean they did give the painting to goodwill so I highly doubt they care
Lmao she didn't ruin it. that's actually really insulting to her art. Landscapes aren't that hard to paint, I've done some in under an hour. if the creator really liked the painting, they wouldn't have sold it and it wouldn't have ended up in the thrift store
Edit: I REALLY enjoy people attacking me in the comments. Fellas, i know my art is trash, you dont need to point that out. An artist of that skill level can easily pull off that small and that simple of a landscape. Yes art is hard, but i dont think that skilled of an artist is going to spend months sweating over a small winter scene. Also, someone paid for that painting with their money. Then it went to a thriftstore. Then kasey bought it. Its her property and she can do whatever she wants with it.
amber .doesart she did admit it in the title
i'd be happy
I usually love her work but this vid is truly upsetting.
I’m in the minority that likes this concept. And Kasey is not the first to collaborate with old art work but I enjoyed the final outcomes especially on the last painting.
Grace Sellers - “collaboration” technically requires more than one party to consent to the project 😥
Yeah same.
orenji this isn’t sex they were old thrift store paintings sewing new life.
@@orenji As an artist myself while i do think it'd suck a little to have my art painted over I would much prefer that to it being forgotten or left in the garbage because no one wanted it.
Just sharing my silver lining opinion ;p
This a really creative idea, i like the last two. The first ones idea is also good.... but it bothers me that you covered up what, in my opinion, is the grab of the painting with the two gorgeous trees on the left. You easily couldve executed your idea by maybe sliding the giant ghost more in the center, as well as maybe a bit smaller.
Its not a big deal... it just personally bothers me (...a lot...)
However I really enjoy this idea, and the thrift store by me has a handful of copies of the same painting, and i might try this myself.

These are just discarded trivialities of the Bob Ross school. There are millions and millions of these, and they all look the same.

I agree yeah, I think it was kinda messed up she was looking specifically for original pieces, prints would have been mu c h better in my opinion : ((
@@Frisenette Still, someone worked very hard on these, if one of my paintings were sold and someone started drawing their cartoons characters over my work that took me weeks to make, I would be really pissed, it's very disrespectful in my eyes. She should have not done it over originals, just the prints.(Edit: why did you put artist in quotations by the way? Why talk in such a condescending manner? Honestly, if you can't realize how hard it is to paint this stuff, goddamn, you're very unlikable. So what if realism looks the same? It's supposed to look like real life. A lot of cartoons look almost exactly the same. You have actual issues.)
@@totallynotsummermorrison33 I think people have to remember these came from a thrift store- so the artists work is already in a bad position to begin with. These most likely would of not even been sold- or sold and just hung some where and eventually forgotten all over again. What she did was breath some new life into paintings that probably didn't have much of a future left. I see these paintings a dime a dozen at thrift shops and I doubt much of them sell since they all look the same and kinda boring. I get it sucks for the original artist- but the artist hard work is already collecting dust in a cheap store so....plus tbh it's not like the people who made those paintings will probably find out- let alone the fact a lot of them might even be dead.
Summer Morrison calm down
If it were me I think I'd probably put a glass frame over it and then use posca pens or something to separate the original from my own work or JUST take photos and draw lol also yeah, lots of nails cause it's old and probably not meant to be removed
Or, how she used Procreate to draw her sketch. She could've continued it like that.
But yeah, I do wish she would have cherished the original. Especially since it doesn't SEEM like a copy. [I'm saying seem, because it might actually be a copy.]
But what has been done is done. Maybe if she does it again she can consider it? That'd be fun, because this is a really cute idea.
Just Being Jessica she bought them from a thrift store so they’re hers now, she can do what she wants
The silence
I know she bought it it's hers but what's it about this whatever you bought a house right you bought if the whatever you want with it but the thing is so you can you can't blow it up you can't destroy yet you can't break it it's like that so at least look it up because you know you never know that house can can have some valuable stuff there's a person that rent the house and found diamonds so please think about it before do not because do you know those paintings you never know they look basic but soon enough they're going to be more money than anything this woman actually found painting that was his full of scribbles that was more to 7 million dollars.
Belle Art and animation do you honestly think, from ONE report of someone finding diamonds, EVERYONE, I’m saying EVERYONE, will find diamonds in their home? That argument is idiotic. They MOST LIKELY check the home before destroying it.
