To the person that asked if a person can really change that much: I was a heroin addict for half my life. I went to prison. I robbed my family blind. I lost every friend. I betrayed everyone and everything I hold dear. But I'll tell you this. A mother's love can change you. My mom never threw me away. Yes she had me put in prison. But she visited me every month. She let me call she wrote me. She never told me I couldn't come home. One day it just clicked. At 33 I got it. Now, 11yrs later I'm a functioning adult. I'm sober. I raise animals. I save them from abuse and use them in therapy with humans that have the same kind of trauma. People can change. When you show someone that hope is possible. That love is real. That truth doesn't hurt as much as lies. Change happens.

She should have thanked that neighbor who gave RF shelter and help.

  • @willow_wise

Peter, one of the reasons your channel is my favorite is because you always try to keep compassion in the mix. Please don't change!

  • @danakavanagh

When it comes to children being abused there can't be enough punishment for me. They should never get out of prison.

  • @taylorellison2719

Peter, I agree with you 100. As a therapist, change starts with wanting to change. I believe people can change because I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes.

If Ruby Franke made this speech in 4 years, I would be more inclined to believe she has learned and grown from this experience. It feels like a huge change for such a short period of time.

  • @TracyLSingh-RN-JD

Taking personal responsibility IS huge and far better than the alternative. Her attorney seems to believe in her and, no doubt, helped pave the way for her to take personal responsibility.

  • @Amylution110

I wish those poor kids (all of her kids since all were abused to some degree) would bring a civil suit against her for the millions she made while filming and abusing them emotionally and physically. Those kids deserve so much!

  • @vickiwhitsitt5918

Peter, I appreciate your point of view concerning the difference between Ruby's & Jody's words. You are compassionate & fair - without giving either a break re their culpability. Again, I am here because of your balanced analysis. 😊

  • @Thee_Catch

You’re not alone Peter. I don’t feel bad for her, but felt like it was what we all want to hear from defendants. It made me tear up, not cause I feel bad for her or really care about her in general, but I was pleasantly surprised by this.

  • @robertbrown5319

Ruby is putting on a performance like she's still on UA-cam.

  • @r1133rocco

I agree with Peter’s take on Ruby’s statement. She is on the responsibility track. She can NEVER undo the horrible abuse she dished out and needs punishment by loosing all her children and being locked up. I want hope too that evil can be challenged and peoples minds and hearts can change for the better.

  • @tammiklusewitz7141

Ruby's abuse of her children began long before her connection with Jodi Hildebrant. Saying that Jodi was responsible for her 'altered' thinking is quite a distance from the truth.

People forget that Ruby was abusing her children before she teamed up with jodie

  • @cindymorgan7295

This is an Academy Award Winning Performance! This is what she does!

  • @kenginger8051

Hey Peter, from one experienced lawyer to another, I 💯 agree. We can only dream of clients expressing this level of remorse. We can't expect anything else from defendants.

  • @lisamoore5226

My hope is that this apology will soothe her children someday. So many abused children (and adults) NEVER get anything close to an apology and it’s my firm belief that genuine apologies go a very long way to help with healing deep wounds. 💔🙏🏽

  • @faithcrimes

She sound like giving thanks in an award show... 😮

Frankie is right about the cops saving her kids- they are truly angels

  • @robinwatson5970

Peter I do agree, also I think she’s speaking to her children and quite possibly her husband. Probably so she will be able to have a future with them. Let’s face it she’s had a lot of time to think over what she’s done, so whatever we believe right or wrong people can change once they accept responsibility for what they’ve done, I think that’s the key
