I agree and the fact she's trying to blame it all on jodi just shows she isn't sorry and still only caring about herself. I don't even think she's plead guilty bc of feeling guilt I think she's doing it to try and save whatever is left of her so called reputation.

Agree, we read about it all the time - the children die. It’s so sad and those kids how on earth will they recover! Apparently the children believed it was their fault and they were evil. My heart breaks.

The details of abuse were worse than I had imagined...waterboarding, depriving of food AND water...throw the book at both Ruby and Jodi. I don't think the kids should go back to the father either. Prayers they can get the therapy, love and care they deserve.

And the 3rd degree sunburns can cause skin cancer even decades later. The water deprivation especially, though, that's pure torture.

There's so much in those charges that could have killed those kids. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, infections. I understand now why the neighbors worried the police would carry out a body.
I was thinking same, but I believe state would have to prove intent and in the context of all the abuse and attempts to “treat” injuries, it would be difficult to prove intent to kill. Any of the abuse could have lead to death and these monsters are lucky it didn’t.
She better not get only 5 years for what she did. Those kids would need way more than 5 years to ever heal from all this.

She took the plea deal because she knew she was done for if it went to trial, I’m surprised they even offered her a plea deal, she deserves to rot in prison.
Kevin may have pushed for it, what of his secrets may have come out in a trial. Why else would he have panicked over the electronics.
If this is what horrors Ruby admits to, it makes you wonder what she didn’t admit to in order to take the plea. So horrific, it’s hard to process.

The young boy who escaped and ran to a neighbor for help was so obviously abused, the neighbor (a male) cried during the 911 call!
I knew it was bad when he started crying.
I call FOUL on this thinking….she was ONLY STOPPED bc that little boy was so mistreated that he ran away. If she had not been found out, and caught, those two small children could have died, at some later point. My God! I hope the judge gives her the max. Max she would serve by state statute with second degree felonies is 30 years. Ultimately determined by board of pardons when her release would be.

I was a juror for a trial of the wife of father who abused horribly his 3 children. They were not her children but she allowed and/or assisted and did not intervene or offer aid . We found her guilty and she was sentenced to 12 yrs. I pray Ruby gets more but I doubt it. I predict she gets 8 yrs and gets out in 4, and that makes me sick. She should get 20 yrs minimum
Something to note- southern Utah is brutally hot in the months where the abuse took place. By August, temps soar to over 110 degrees and I cannot fathom the pain these children endured. That they were forced to stand in that sun unprotected, without water, and how they were able to walk without shoes is unimaginable.
The reports said the youngest daughter actually had blisters on her chest from the heat! Absolutely heartbreaking 💔

Blisters are second degree burns-excruciating and medically very dangerous! A sunburn of this severity is automatic CPS referral for the responsible adult. Ruby and Jodi should be forced to endure everything they put these children through.
I lived in southern Utah (at a boarding school, which is why I’m shocked by exactly 0% of these revelations, it wasn’t this extreme but manual labor, exercise, exposure to the elements and social isolation were definitely used as punishment- theyve been reprimanded by the state for forced labor) but it is HOT HOT. Standing barefoot on the ground, that has had the sun beating down on it all day, would be enough to burn the skin right off your feet.
I got sunburned 40 years ago and still have a big scar from it.

As an Australian Lawyer - this case fascinates me……..Unlikely to be even open to ‘plea deal’ wrangling in our system for this sort of crime! It should be a lengthy prison Sentence for Ruby (& for her co-conspirator, Jodi)! Horrible crime! Horrible people! Ruby should be prohibited from EVER having any contact with her children aged under 18 years of age!
As should the father. No unsupervised visits with those children as long as they're minors.

I do think the laws of the church is very important in Utah.. so I also think, the church have a seat in the court.
@@MRSFeeX Why did the prosecutor have part of Ruby’s plea deal that she would testify against Jodie? When he was giving her a plea deal also. It seems it was only for show and the easiest way out of making this all go away quietly, so not to bring attention on to the church and their involvement with Jodie.

It cannot be overstated the damage that was done to those two precious children. It will affect them for the rest of their lives. Ruby stole their childhood. As a child abuse survivor, my heart goes out to those kids in my prayers too. Ruby will have to answer to God for why she tortured the most precious thing she was given. I am so angry that a mother could do that to her babies. And all the while she was preaching about God and love. She’s a hypocrite, and she’s vile.
She is a sick evil psychopath, she got enjoyment out of hurting her children. I hope she gets the max sentence and rots in hell.
I was in an abusive marriage and my ex used to hold his mand over my mouth and nose and I remember the absolute FEAR!! It is psychological torture. Honestly it was worse than him strangling me. I just cannot think the cptsd these children will how e for life.
I am a former CPS, and I’ve seen many ugly and horrifying cases ..this is among the worst and most hideous one I’ve observed.
The fact that these kids need decades of therapy because of what has happened to them, I feel she needs the maximum sentence possible.
Punished for drinking water so what is wrong with these people? Better be more than one year per charge. I'm glad he is still alive. He's going to need a lot of therapy.
It is 1 to 15. Consecutively, I doubt the judge will give her the minimum. Let’s say he is generous to her and give 5 years to each count, she will be there for 20 years. If she gets parole, I don’t think it will be before she is there to at least 10 years. But imho she will be there for more than 10, no parole.
If there's any justice she'll never be allowed near another child again. I read the torture she did to the child, how the child will survive this I can't imagine. REAL Christian prayer, Lord bless these children with healing and forget of this demonic heart's cruelty abuse.

Putting the boy in a hogtie resulted in him basically hurting himself with his own weight... as his arms and legs got numb, they pulled apart, causing hours of agonizing pain. Horrific! I can't comprehend that someone would inflict this torture on a person, let alone on a child.

Those poor babies. I hope they are receiving the physical and psychological assistance they need. I genuinely hope they give her at least 20 years in prison for her behaviour. Hopefully all of her children can use that time to heal and grow. My mothers heart breaks for these children, to experience this kind of abuse at the hands of the one person in the world who is supposed to be your champion, your soft place to fall.

So she was involved in the punishments. No matter what, torturing and physically hurting your children is abominable. There's going to have to be years of healing before these kids are okay. I hope their siblings can help and get help, too.

I followed this since the day the young boy escaped and asked the neighbor man for help. The man was in tears when he was reporting to 911. It was so bad many were afraid the children were dead. Everyone was praying for the children. This is near St. George, Utah where the summer temperature regularly exceeds100 degrees.
I am sure he witnessed the worse, poor neighbor. I hope he is doing well, because I am not doing well. And I am mad, I am mad at these two women and mad at Kevin. My comfort is that they didn’t broke this kid spirit, he try more than once to scape, and he made it. I am thinking about the case of shandra vander and her son, an adult, wasn’t able to leave her and save his brother. I am not saying it is his fault, he is serving his time and he is mentally challenged, imho.

Personally saying you’re “mad” at Kevin when he’s come out, in his own words, & let the world know that he had no idea this was going on. His oldest daughter did though & never told him about it either & why he felt she should be charged also. He would have stopped it had he known. Instead his wife told him she needed time, for him to back off, & refused to let him see the kids & if they were to ever get back together as a family then he needed to respect her decision & feelings. She didn’t treat the kids like this while they were together & he never heard of Hildabrand harming anyone previously. He has also filed for divorce & is seeking custody of his children & following the DCF recommendations for his children. Perhaps you should worry about your children, your family, & stop “victim blaming & shaming” people you don’t even know. Jumping from one case to another. Just like Peter says, the victim blaming done by others, revictimizig all the victims by putting them on the stand, & right away, first comment, & the victim shaming & blaming has started.

I'd like to say it sounds like Ruby is actually remorseful and has the ability to see her wrongs, but then I remember that people have been screaming child abuse for years and she only doubled down on the abuse.

The two older teenage daughters are staying with Shari and the two youngest are at foster homes (I’m not sure if they are together or in separate homes though). Hopefully the judge won’t grant Kevin custody of their children but since family court proceedings are sealed, I don’t know if we will ever know what the ultimate outcome of those proceedings is.
the middle two are not with Shari. They wouldn’t stay with her and went into foster homes.

Yeah, Chad couldn’t have a bedroom, bed or bathroom door because he was not mature and humble enough to have those things. Ruby doesn’t have a bedroom, walls or a bathroom door. Just not humble enough to have those things. Well, those and those cavity searches must be humbling her quite a bit! It’s awesome!
I always compare how long the victim has to live with the PTSD, trauma etc. (forever) and what the number of years she should spend in prison, so 20 years is not enough for my heart.

100% the church is in the deal. And I am sure Jodi will gets a deal soon. I am not seeing Jodi going to trial. The church does not need this bad publicity. I almost want it to bet my week salary she is not going to fight. Jodi and Ruby are two nutshell. And the church is at fault.

They brainwash these individuals and when stuff happens they cover everything up. Excommunication and shunning and acting like they did not have an influence over what goes in under the guise of religion.
@SheezaPI Ruby's deal is absurdo. Only a church follower would accept it such a crazy deal. It is like, "I am throwing myself at the courts mercy." Religion sometimes gets in the way. I am a Christian, but I would rather not go to any church, people manipulating people.

@SheezaPI something that people told us about God wasn't right. Even though we are adults, I still feel traumatized. Maybe it was the way I was raised. I was in some way too sheltered. Life is hard, and if we are not even, we will suffer the consequences. I understand what you mean. I hope we can overcome that kind of teaching. I also understand why some people decided to be atheist. It's better, then you don't think too much about it.

I can't imagine the feelings these kids must be going through. Guilt that their mother is in trouble, shame bc somehow they might believe it's their fault, afraid that these people that were harming them might get out and continue the abuse. Infinite amount of feelings and emotions I hope all her children including the adults get the help they so desperately need.

These poor kids are scarred for life. It makes me so sad. Listening to Jodi's niece's story and how they struggled as an adult - this is what these kids have in their future😢😢😢😢. I do not care if both these women die in prison. The harm they caused will take a lifetime for these kids to process. And sorry but dad did not protect them. R didnt ask the neighbor to call his dad - he couldnt even trust that his dad will come rescue him 😢😢😢😢. Dad doesnt deserve to have these kids back

Excellent point. I hadn't thought of that. Poor kid didn't ask for his dad. You'd think, if Russell had a normal, loving relationship with his father, he would have been the first person he asked for. Very glad he didn't though - he's obviously a really smart kid. I hope he and his younger sister get all the help they need. Any money and proceeds from the UA-cam channel should go to the kids. Definitely not to pay for any of Ruby's or Kevin's legal fees.
Kevin would have taken RF back to the house of torture because he wouldn't want to risk Ruby's wrath directed at him.
Please sentencing judge, look at the past and future drama for the children. They were deprived of their privacy as children and will continue to be deprived as they grow older, their past and future health (both mental and physical) will be grossly impacted, their loss of trust etc. Let's hope other charges which implicate the father for his neglect will be brought. When arrested Ruby implied her son was the issue which does not show her offer any sympathy.
That little boy is a hero, and his life is forever burdened with this. Life in jail or a life of community service or both is commensurate with the crime. Her husband should not have custody of the children he abandoned with to 2 psychopaths
The judge needs to listen to that 911 call. It was just heartbreaking when that little boy said it was all his fault.

The only thing I don’t agree with Peter is that she will serve only 10 years. She is up to 60, with cooperating, let’s cut that in half. 30 years is good and she can try parole. If they give her 10, she might be out in less time.

Omg- this woman is sick. Who allows their children to be treated like that and worse- doing it herself?? 😡 I am honestly appalled and I raised a more than difficult child and would never, ever resort to anything close to this. Praying for the family and quick healing for these kids. Even the kids who are now adults.
This sounds like another case where the verdict came down last week about a law clerk mother seriously abusing and killing her 17-year old autistic son. I can’t believe there are two cases of this and probably more we do not know about! Really hard to fathom!

She has serious problems. I couldn't believe how she smiled at the bailiff that held the door for her. She also made sure to find the camera and look directly at it. I hope the children are ok and get the help they need after the trauma they suffered 😢

Well, this woman is a monster. Unfortunately prison will not be low enough for her. You know they say she belongs beneath the jail. She will end up there. No heaven in her future at all! I feel bad when I lose my temper and yell at my 7 or 12 yr old. How do you do this to YOUR OWN children? Suspend them with handcuffs! That's literally psychotic! How do you justify that in your own head, let alone actually carry it out day after day after day. I’m sure these evil persons work hard at hiding it from others but I’d like to know what teachers saw. Why older siblings weren’t listened to. Where was the children’s father during and after these abuses?
They were taken out of school! The father at the very least used to mentally abuse the children and taking away food was a regular occurrence when he was present in the home. When Jodie got involved ruby kicked the father out of the home. Police never listened, even to the oldest daughter who left and cut contact years before this all even came out. Terrible stuff 😢
Psychological control and public exposure with questionably strict punishments was the abuse while they were in school and the father was around.
After the father was chased out and the kids were removed it escalated to excessive food deprivation (where health is effected) as well as inhumane physical punishments. Rumours of more.
what she did and allowed Jodi to do to her babies is absolutely unforgivable, I pray those babies never have to see either of their abusers again. I cried listening to this, I hope she still sees prison time
I don't believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt anymore. When someone indicates that they will hurt a child, chances are they will. They're not misunderstood or misguided. In addition to that, I'm very skeptical about the father. When abusers like this get away with it for a long time, there are usually family members who were complicit, who saw what was happening, made excuses and covered for them. He probably knew.

She and her husband were mentally and emotionally abusive way before Jodi. So the statements Kevin's lawyer has written and spoken about him is on the same level as that used TP. Kevin should not have custody of the children if the courts have any wisdom.
What was done to the children could have easily resulted in de@th, luckly the children survived.

@@WendyParmleyThat’s incorrect. EACH charge has a 15year max. Jodi is charged with 6 counts I believe. Ruby just pled to 4 counts. Even if sentenced moderately they could be doing 20-30 years easily.

The max for second degree felonies, regardless of the number of second degree felonies run consecutively, is 30 years by state statute. That is all the law allows. The minimum would depend on number of charges if run consecutively. Four charges would be four years. Max is still 30.
