We didn't request this stupid piece of garbage. This film is for children. We requested the 1985 film Mask, with Cher, Sam Eliot, and Eric Stolz of Pulp Fiction. That is an awesome film.

The whole idea is the mask is imbued with the powers of Loki the god of mischief so when the user wears it they lose their sanity but they can bend reality to whatever they desire. Since all Stanley desired was love and he had a fascination with cartoons it turned him into a love crazy cartoon wild man.
@anthropyrequien6227 Right. I know the Loki part was added for the films and cartoons and the movie is loosely adapted. I was just trying to explain for them why reality gets so wonky in the film with the dancing and such.

I feel like the 90's was the decade where he got to really show off his talent. Since then he's had some decent roles like Yes Man and I feel like he's trying to bring back the original personality in the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

But some useless trivia: The mechanic's garage was the Ghostbusters' firehouse. The condom balloon was an ad-lib (a lot of the movie was). Jim Carrey actually SAVED the studio millions because of his physicality. They didn't have to CG him as much. The director of this movie's first film was "A Nightmare on Elm St. 3: The Dream Warriors." He directed that so he and his friend, Frank Darabont, (who wrote Elm St 3) could do a remake of the 1958 horror classic, "The Blob." They did, and while the remake flopped at the box office They have both gone on to have remarkable careers. Darabont went on to do The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and create the TV version of The Walking Dead.
This is Cameron Diaz's 1st acting role ever, and her character was meant for Anna Nicole Smith. I have two more Jim Carrey suggestions. The first one is Liar Liar, which is my all time favorite, and the second one is Me, Myself, and Irene. Both are equally hilarious
This was based on a comic book that was pretty gruesome and not meant for kids at all. There was a lot of blood and gore in it. It was toned down significantly to fit what we know a Jim Carrey movie to be. So when you're seeing the violence in this movie, this is nothing compared to what the comic book was. Everything here is played for laughs because it's a Jim Carrey comedy. It's not in the comics. Don't Google it if you've just eaten dinner, trust me. There were a lot of very adult comic books, particularly in the 90s. Tank Girl was another one. I would argue that The Mask is a much better movie than Tank Girl, even though never film really represents what the comics were intended to be. Tank Girl tries to be an R rated film, but with the brain of a little girl, which doesn't really work. The Mask (the movie) knows its audience. This is a kids movie that adults can enjoy. Remember, 80s and 90s kids films had a lot more edge. Just watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit if you don't believe me.
Aside from the adult humor if you were a kid when this movie dropped, this was it. Im 43 now, thanks for the nostalgia boost it brought back so many memories. Now im off to watch the full cut ✌😆
My fav part in this whole movie is when he gets the cops to chain dance 😂 🎵 boo chicka boo🎵 The mask brings out who you are on the inside. Stanley was fun and silly. Dorian was evil, that's why he looked grotesque.

@@StardustandMadness that’s cool 👍 I’m not saying it’s a bad movie, it just wasn’t as good as any of his old movies. In my opinion, he hasn’t done a good movie in almost 20 years… the last “good” movie he did was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that dramatic movie from 2004. Everything he did following that just wasn’t as good 🫤🤷♂️
Since you guys liked the silliness of the cartoon effects and humor in the Mask, another good movie for you guys to have reacted to as well could have been Who Framed Roger Rabbit, that movie is chalk full of every cartoon character ever made under the sun. From Looney Tunes to Disney. If you guys haven't reacted to the movie yet
The Truman Show was Jim Carrey showing that he could do more than just comedy. Then he did Man on the Moon, and really proved his acting skills deserved respect.
Thank you for bringing up Man on the Moon, that movie often gets overlooked. But they probably don’t even know who Andy Kaufman is, so they wouldn’t understand that movie
This is MY kind of movie right here! Jim Carrey is not only great in this movie but the way he goes into those cartoony is what I remember the most and still recreate to this day with my work.
You have watched The Mask starring Jim Carey, now you need to watch the movie "Mask" starring Sam Elliott, Cher and Eric Stoltz. It is based on the true story of a boy named Rocky Dennis. Very powerful, very emotional. Guaranteed to pull at your heartstrings.
i suggested this a while back they must not have seen it a true heart wrenching film made from a true real life Rocky Dennis The youngster was born with a disease that caused his face to be terribly deformed, making it appear that he had a mask on.
Yes, people do occasionally get tossed out of clubs or bars. I've tossed people out of my bar. I mean physically threw them out the door. Most people leave when they are told too. One dude tried to rob me with a pocket knife. Tossed his ass out and he did a back flip over the railing outside the door. I probably should have called the cops for that one but I didn't feel up to all the paperwork and questions.
One of my favourite Jim Carey films. The nostalgia watching this movie for me is top tier!! A big thing during my teens was sticker books, alot of top movies got their own sticker box and this qualified for that honour! Another great Jim Carey movie is 'Liar Liar' 'Me, Myself & Irene' is another perfect Jim Carey movie you should check out.
Lmao when j says he’s a cartoon literally twice and then does something ridiculously cartoon-y lmao so funny I’m so glad you both enjoyed this I always have
The Truman Show is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's damn near a masterpiece. People love it, and it makes for a really good first time reaction if you've never seen it. It's also the kind of movie I still watch all these years later and see things I never noticed before, it's full of so much brilliant nuance and detail. More in the line of this and Ace Ventura would be Liar, Liar though. A bit more serious of a role at times, but its peaks are some of the funniest in any of his films.
I have a suggestion for one of my favorite movies, with 2 actors that I know you love. Catch Me If You Can. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. It also has some other great actors. I think you will love it.
This is an older comedy, but it is a classic and you will come to appreciate the gem that is Goldie Hawn. “Private Benjamin” is a wonderful comedy!! We’re kind of due for a great chick flick!!
Another must see comedy from Jim Carrey is Liar Liar. Absolutely hilarious! And yes, the Truman Show is an incredible movie but it’s more of a serious role at times too. Both are highly highly recommended
I saw this movie in the theater--and I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack! :D And the DVD as soon as it was released! (I still have it!) The confrontation with his landlady (the green-faced monster face-off!), the dance with Tina, Milo's transformation, and finally..."Did you miss me? I guess not!" are my favorite scenes in the movie! I also like that it subverted expectations as to the female characters. The 'good girl' reporter turned out to be a villain, and the 'bad girl' got to be a heroine. If you liked this, you will really enjoy "Who Framed Roger Rabbit!"
25:23 - That curator is the famous slow pan speaking teacher from the cult classic 80s teen film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", starring Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck.
For me, Jim's best work is in the Truman Show, The Grinch, Liar Liar, The Cable Guy, Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber. He's by far the greatest physical comedian in history, but he also does amazing impersonations. I truly believe both his face and body are made of rubber and he is a cartoon character!
This movie was a huge hit when my wife and I were growing up. So, for our wedding party we had the opportunity to do something special, and we decided to hire a theater company to do a Mask performance. Since our friends and family all loved The Mask back in the day, this turned out to be one hell of a wedding party, with everybody joining the actors to dance “Cuban Pete”… Thanks for reacting to this wonderful movie, and for bringing back so many lovely memories!
Yes. Being tossed out of the club by a bouncer like that really happens. I've seen it many times. Typically is belligerent or super drunk ppl but it absolutely does happen.
Several years ago, a place I worked at had a return customer whose last name was Doyle- same as Lt. Kellaway's inept partner. I never said it out loud, but in my head- every single time I saw the customer's name, I said, "DOY-le!" just like the exasperated Kellaway.
Great reaction guys. Jim Carrey's movement and facial expressions are amazing. I think his acting/performance in Me, Myself and Irene is off the chart!! You should definitely check it out..
My favorite Jim Carrey movie isn't a comedy. It's The Truman Show, and it's really, really good. I can't say what it's about without spoilers, but I think you'd really like it.
You probably recognize Dorian from Pulp Fiction. He played Zed. He was also in Training Day with Denzel Washington but not sure if you've seen that yet.
"Smokin'" was one of the big quotes from this movie but... One of my favorite quotes from this movie is "That is a SPICY a meatball..." in that fake accent.
You guys should check Jim's performances out in the show 'In Living Color' (Pretty much where he started his career). In fact, I sugguest y'all check out many different skits and artists from I.L.C., it's a wonderful show. ❤
It really was great and made so many people stars, but I wouldn't say Carrey "started his career" there. He had been a successful stand-up comic for over a decade before that and even had a starring role in the vampire comedy Once Bitten, 5 years before ILC. His 1983 debut on The Tonight Show was legendary.
@@okielady73 Didn't know that, but he had another large role in Earth Girls Are Easy that I had forgotten about. That may be where he got in good with the Wayans brothers, since Damon was in it.
Also can we appreciate how GOOD the special effects work was in this movie for 1994? I remember it was considered really impressive when it came out when I was a kid. I'm amazed at how well it holds up!
Omg, 2 minutes in and I'm already loving this reaction!!! Thank you Amber for calling Cameron Diaz a fox-- I'm on a campaign to bring that term back (bonus points to anyone who says "stone-cold fox!") This was the big break out movie for Cameron Diaz. Would LOVE to see you react to her and Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding, and another great Jim Carrey movie is Eternal Sunlight of the Spotless Mind with Kate Winslet (Rose from Titanic)
Like most of us, they will go into ESOTSM expecting something very different. No comedy there, but a great flick. Truman Show kind of tipped us off that he could do drama, but it was still pretty wacky.
Y'all need to watch the 1985 movie called Mask, with no The in front of it. It stars Cher, Sam Elliott, and Eric Stoltz. It's based on a true story and a very good movie.
Amber, to answer your question about the clubs, I used to go to every major club in NYC in the 90s, and while they wouldn't physically throw you to the curb, they did have a habit of calling people out and embarrassing them in front of everyone by saying things like, "This isn't happening tonight, sorry" or "If you go home and change, I may consider it." Or if you told the doorman (or woman) that you knew someone, sometimes that would work, but a lot of times they didn't care. lol They were going for a certain look and if you weren't it, you didn't get in.
Hiring Jim actually saved them a fortune on effects, because of how well he can control and contort his face. He could do a lot with his face that other actors would need CG for. He even took the time to learn how to speak normally with those giant teeth in.
19:01 It's funny you say this, because there was a swing revival in the 90's. It got big enough in the mid-to-late 90s that people would take swing dance classes, clubs would have swing nights, people would get all dressed up in vintage clothes - the whole thing. It was really fun.
The mask is a great comic series. The mask of Loki brings out your inner character and makes them chaotic. Jim Carreys character is obsessed with cartoons. So when he puts on the mask in the movie and comics he’s like if Deadpool and Bugs Bunny had kid.
I emulated soooo many of Jim Carreys moments from this and ace ventura when i was a kid. So over the top, then The Grinch came out and oh my lord. He's gotta be my favorite actor of all time since i'm not into crazy action thriller series. The actions, facial manipulations and accents to his voice. Dudes friggen GOLD

I have two more Jim Carrey suggestions. The first one is Liar Liar, which is my all time favorite, and the second one is Me, Myself, and Irene. Both are equally hilarious
Two major lines from this movie that every kid would say "Sssssmokin!" and "Ssssomebody ssstop meeeeh!"
What about " Let's Rock This Joint" 😁
My favorite line in this movie is " You were good kid real but as long as I'm around you'll always be second best see"
This was based on a comic book that was pretty gruesome and not meant for kids at all.
My fav part in this whole movie is when he gets the cops to chain dance 😂 🎵 boo chicka boo🎵
The mask brings out who you are on the inside. Stanley was fun and silly. Dorian was evil, that's why he looked grotesque.
SSSMMOOOKIN!!
This movie has so many quotable lines that I personally use to this very day. Such as:
"Did you miss me? I guess not" LOL
It's Party time P.A.R.T. Y because I gotta
I'm just an ex employee looking for his backpay or should I say payback
Can't make the scene if you ain't got the green
Let's Rock This Joint
You were good kid real good but as long as I'm around you'll always be second best see
That's a spicy meatball
“Cuban Pete” was performed by Desi Arnaz (Ricky Ricardo of “I Love Lucy”)
My favorites of his are “The Truman Show”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, and especially “Yes Man”
Yes Man was not one of his bests… he was passed his prime when did that
I actually really liked Yes Man, but I think it was because it inspired me to stop saying ‘no’ to everything.
@@StardustandMadness that’s cool 👍
I’m not saying it’s a bad movie, it just wasn’t as good as any of his old movies. In my opinion, he hasn’t done a good movie in almost 20 years… the last “good” movie he did was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that dramatic movie from 2004. Everything he did following that just wasn’t as good 🫤🤷♂️
Peter Greene (who plays Dorian) played Zed (Zed's dead, baby) in Pulp Fiction. I think that's where you recognized him.
& blue Streak with Martin Lawrence
If you haven't done it already, you might enjoy Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Another blend of reality with cartoon. And a great film too.
Jim Carrey released Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber all in the same year, 1994. It was the year he cemented his status as legend.
I don't know if it has been mentioned, but "Once Bitten" was the first movie i saw him in, still a favorite.
YAAASSSSS!!!!!
This is MY kind of movie right here! Jim Carrey is not only great in this movie but the way he goes into those cartoony is what I remember the most and still recreate to this day with my work.
Liar Liar is my fave Jim Carey flick. A classic
"Aren't you due back at the laboratory to get your BOLTS TIGHTENED?!?!" is one of my fav lines LMFAO
Amber will be in tears.
I love that movie. The music is fantastic.
Bull Dozer!
EPIC film!
i suggested this a while back they must not have seen it
a true heart wrenching film made from a true real life Rocky Dennis The youngster was born with a disease that caused his face to be terribly deformed, making it appear that he had a mask on.
“How could you mistake him? His jawline is impeccable” …😂 and his face is green
Love the King of the Hill shirt Amber. RIP Dale.
One of my favourite Jim Carey films. The nostalgia watching this movie for me is top tier!!
A big thing during my teens was sticker books, alot of top movies got their own sticker box and this qualified for that honour!
Another great Jim Carey movie is 'Liar Liar'
'Me, Myself & Irene' is another perfect Jim Carey movie you should check out.
Lmao when j says he’s a cartoon literally twice and then does something ridiculously cartoon-y lmao so funny
I’m so glad you both enjoyed this
I always have
Total classic! Jim Carrey tears it up in this one
Catch Me If You Can is an awesome film!! I read some of Frank Abignale's books after seeing it - what a fascinating guy.
We used to laugh at some of the lines so much, SOMEBODY STOP ME!🤣🤣
The studio saved tons of money on VFX just because of how expressive Jim Carry's face is.
"Old school" cartoons are the best cartoons. 😅
This is an older comedy, but it is a classic and you will come to appreciate the gem that is Goldie Hawn. “Private Benjamin” is a wonderful comedy!! We’re kind of due for a great chick flick!!
I'd take Wildcats for some Goldie. The beginning of Wesley and Woody!
LOVED Private Benjamin. Joined the Army in 1992 and it was wall to wall PB jokes in the barracks. We all felt like we were her, a little bit.
Loved this movie
Another must see comedy from Jim Carrey is Liar Liar. Absolutely hilarious! And yes, the Truman Show is an incredible movie but it’s more of a serious role at times too. Both are highly highly recommended
I saw this movie in the theater--and I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack! :D And the DVD as soon as it was released! (I still have it!)
The confrontation with his landlady (the green-faced monster face-off!), the dance with Tina, Milo's transformation, and finally..."Did you miss me? I guess not!" are my favorite scenes in the movie!
I also like that it subverted expectations as to the female characters. The 'good girl' reporter turned out to be a villain, and the 'bad girl' got to be a heroine.
If you liked this, you will really enjoy "Who Framed Roger Rabbit!"
“Who Framed Roger Rabbit “
Is another movie that combines live action and cartoon characters together.
I highly recommend, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It is I high concept film and I think Jim Carrey's best acting in a movie.
Need to add,me myself and Irene to the list! You will truly laugh throughout that one!
Yes! Me, Myself and Irene is his most under appreciated movie
You guys are hitting some awesome flicks. Good job. I really enjoy watching them again with yall!
25:23 - That curator is the famous slow pan speaking teacher from the cult classic 80s teen film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", starring Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck.
Looking forward to watching this movie with you guys. I had this on VHS, but haven't seen it in years since my player died. Happy Birthday, Luca!
He's brilliant in "Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind " and "Cable Guy"
One of the strongest comic book characters ever. Truman Show is a classic
An underrated movie NOBODY has reviewed "Almost an Angel" with Paul Hogan... Would LOVE to see you do it!!
Too bad Ace Ventura gets dragged down by its execution.
@@christopherb501 I’m not sure what you’re talking about, what do you mean by that?
The Mask was originally a comic. An extremely gruesome one at that too.
You will absolutely love Liar, Liar. It's hilarious and has some parts that hit you in the feels.
"It's Party Time!!! P-A-R-T Why??? Because I Gotta!!"
Liar Liar, definitely a must watch Jim Carrey movie.
@@clh35 He also had a small part in Peggy Sue Got Married as one of Nicholas Cage's friends and bandmates.
@@okielady73 Didn't know that, but he had another large role in Earth Girls Are Easy that I had forgotten about. That may be where he got in good with the Wayans brothers, since Damon was in it.
Fire Marshall Bill!!!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a great film. Not a laugh out loud movie like this, but a really great movie that makes you think.
Stone-cold fox? Love that term. That's a worthy cause. I'll be using that from here on out lol. We'll bring it back!
I second both of those movies. ESOTSM is one of my favorites ever, and MBFW is hilarious.
Like most of us, they will go into ESOTSM expecting something very different. No comedy there, but a great flick. Truman Show kind of tipped us off that he could do drama, but it was still pretty wacky.
@@LiberalsArePoop yes, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a popular movie like Truman Show
I will say this, I ALWAYS wanted a zoot suit like he wears in this movie. It is just awesome!
Y'all need to watch the 1985 movie called Mask, with no The in front of it. It stars Cher, Sam Elliott, and Eric Stoltz. It's based on a true story and a very good movie.
Yep, I saw the title of The Mask, and thought it was Mask, and was sooo excited.
@@hoke1212surely, you must have looked at the thumbnail before assuming this was a reaction to another movie called "mask"..
@@hoke1212 GB 🙏🏻☝🏻❤️✝️
The Truman Show is an absolute must watch. Jim Carrey is elite
Next Jim Carrey movie you need to see is "Liar Liar"! You'll love it.
My favorite part is Cuban Pete and the police conga line.🤣😭
Amber, to answer your question about the clubs, I used to go to every major club in NYC in the 90s, and while they wouldn't physically throw you to the curb, they did have a habit of calling people out and embarrassing them in front of everyone by saying things like, "This isn't happening tonight, sorry" or "If you go home and change, I may consider it." Or if you told the doorman (or woman) that you knew someone, sometimes that would work, but a lot of times they didn't care. lol They were going for a certain look and if you weren't it, you didn't get in.
Reminder that The Mask is a Marvel character. So imagine combining Jim Carrey in his prime with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the same film.
Ryan Reynolds will never be half the star that Jim Carrey is though
This is a very funny movie. You guys should watch "Something about Mary" with Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller
I recommended that a couple of weeks ago. "Franks and beans!"
No, Something About Mary wasn’t that funny. It was decent at best
@@nsasupporter7557 you must suck at parties.
"Put the cheese down and get the keys" has forever become part of my vocabulary anytime I'm looking for my keys.
I used to love the cartoon of this back in the day !!! Y'all should check out the animated series of "The Mask" whenever ya'll get a chance
Such a good cartoon - and a great theme tune.
Hiring Jim actually saved them a fortune on effects, because of how well he can control and contort his face. He could do a lot with his face that other actors would need CG for. He even took the time to learn how to speak normally with those giant teeth in.
My favorite Jim Carrey movie is Liar Liar. You should try that one.
19:01 It's funny you say this, because there was a swing revival in the 90's. It got big enough in the mid-to-late 90s that people would take swing dance classes, clubs would have swing nights, people would get all dressed up in vintage clothes - the whole thing. It was really fun.
Jim Carrey is a master of this type of comedy, who could pull off this acting as good as him.
@bobbyj5375 In the words of Keith Sweat Nobody.
they should watch Me Myself and Irene
@@oaf-77yes definitely! Me, Myself and Irene is his most under appreciated movie
@@oaf-77 Yes this should happen, my second favorite Jim Carrey movie.
Between the Green makeup and the horse teeth, Jim Carrey nailed this character for sure.
The mask is a great comic series. The mask of Loki brings out your inner character and makes them chaotic. Jim Carreys character is obsessed with cartoons. So when he puts on the mask in the movie and comics he’s like if Deadpool and Bugs Bunny had kid.
Haha it's not great.
@@Nekotaku_TV a lot better then anything marvel shit out recently.
@@zillowzalo4653 *than. Hahaha. I don't read comics so I don't know.
@@Nekotaku_TV then your opinion is irrelevant.
@@zillowzalo4653 Haha no cause I read The Mask.
