Near the end when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are trying to escape the mothership and the door is closing on them David says "Must go faster", this is a callback to Jurassic Park when the T-Rex is chasing them and he is in the back of the Jeep yelling "Must go faster."

"Plow the road" is a bastardization of the real (old) saying "Plow the row"...as in digging up the farm)and to plan/ a ROW of seeds.

My favourite quote about faking the moon landings is that they hired Stanley Kubrick to fake the moon landings but he was such a perfectionist that he shot it on location. 😁
Seriously though I still can't believe that some people think it's fake. I mean the Chinese recently sent back photos of the landing sites from their recent expeditions so they would have to be helping the US keep the secret which makes as much sense as Russia going along with it at the height of the cold war.

The moon landing being fake could possibly come with massively horrifying implications about the geopolitics of the cold war. Since even the communists claimed that it happened, the people with the most to gain from it being fake, it could mean that there was no cold war. That it was all made up by a global shadow government to keep people in line.

Fun fact to make u feel old…the time between the moon landing and this movie’s release is less than this movie’s release to present day

Saw this in theaters when I was a kid. My sister took me as a birthday present, and has been my favorite movie of all time since then. Literally the definition of a summer blockbuster.

They just don't make movies like this, anymore. A huge summer blockbuster with movie stars, but it takes its time to build characters who you grow to love and actually care about. No goofy politics or woke agenda, simply a fun story that everyone leaves feeling great from watching.
This is a 4th of July rewatch every year, for me. Just pure 90's Hollywood blockbuster at its best.

No goofy politics? I mean, it’s a fun film, but there’s definitely a rah, rah, America-best cheerleading vibe. Like, iirc, even the Brits are talking about how great Americans are. That’s pretty goofy, and it is a political message. Trust the U.S. government, trust the military, etc. As Americans, we hear this stuff so much, and it’s in so many movies, it just seems normal. We’re like the proverbial fish, the last to discover water. Propaganda works best when you don’t recognize it.

LOL “woke agenda”? No summer blockbusters? Did they not make a new Planet of the Apes and Dune 2 or was that my imagination? This one’s pretty political and jingoistic if you ask me.

When this movie premered in San Antonio, it was at only one (old) theater, which is no longer there, and the line was down the street and around the corner three blocks long. In this movie, Will Smith's buddy is played by Harry Connick Jr. HCJ is also a modern day crooner. You should react to him on your music channel

July 1969 my American History class was in session. Our teacher told us if we wanted, school was out for the summer,we could come to the high school to watch the moon landing. About three fourth of my class was there. And yes it was real. But I always wondered what they were looking at when they were off screen and the mic was cut for about 11 to 12 minutes. What did they see??
One of my favorites. ❤ Now you'll need to watch the sequel, Independence Day Resurgence. Lots of the same characters and actors just 20 years later.

Just made familial connections now to the "Star Trek" (2009) film series via Robert Pine, who plays one of the president's advisors here. Pine is the father of Chris Pine, who plays Captain James T. Kirk in the aforementioned Star Trek films. Furthermore Chris Hemsworth (Thor) pre-MCU, played Kirk's father in the beginning of "Star Trek" (2009), and Hemsworth's brother, Liam, went on to star in the sequel to "Independence Day", "Independence Day: Resurgence".
