If you liked that hair ... have you ever watched *"Babylon 5"* ??? Look out for the Centauri (they got that right by season 3) ... and it would be interesting to know what you think of the "main plotline", because IMO it "applies to you" ... kinda. (And the source of destruction of western society.)
When people laid eyes on Cameron Diaz for the first time in this film, it was essentially the same effect as when they had first laid eyes on Geena Davis twelve years earlier in "Tootsie" (1982). Everybody just understandably assumed that there was no way that this person could possibly NOT go on to become a big star, regardless of her acting ability. 🤔 Well, at least every GUY certainly assumed that.😜👍
I watched this in the theater 7 times when I was 17 years old. Today I'm 47, and I still watch Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery classics, etc. You don't have to be a kid to appreciate cartoons as well as The Mask, you just have to have some kid in your heart.
Well said. Can’t beat the old school classic cartoons, man. Cannot. I’m 30 (a couple months from 31 as of this writing), by the way. This movie is almost exactly my age. Some of those cartoons are almost three times my age (and even slightly more than three times, in the case of the OG Disney stuff-Mickey Mouse is friggin’ 96 this year!), and I’d genuinely argue that the art and heart of the classic ‘toons can’t be matched by most of the tryhard crap out there these days. Granted, drastically different styles and types cannot truly be accurately compared, but I’m still going to show my bias anyway. There’s something about watching someone step on a rake or shovel and whack themself in the face (and end up with a ridiculous imprint of said rake or shovel) that is simply timeless. Cheesy memes and forced narratives expire; pure physical comedy and all forms of irony do not. Elmer Fudd quietly imploring the audience to “be vewy vewy quiet” as he’s “hunting wabbits” before very loudly giggling about it like a lunatic is priceless 60+ years later. Bubbles of the PowerPuff Girls randomly morphing her face into an internet meme that had already been extinct for several years should have never even made it to the drawing board. (To be clear, the *original* PowerPuff Girls was incredible; the reboot or whatever in the mid-2010’s was an atrocity. One clip of cute little Bubbles pulling that hideous “me gusta” meme face and screaming “no me gusta!” told me all I needed to know. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, consider yourself lucky. God I’m sick of nostalgia junkies getting all *sad* about things not being around anymore and begging for them to be brought back/remade. It’s ALWAYS a disaster-especially since the original heart and vision of a past project cannot be recreated or recaptured. Know what else you get when you try to bring back dead things without the proper recipe? Zombies. Ugly, shambling, mindless walking corpses. Same concept.)

"Ooh, somebody stop me!" Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Cameron Diaz. Music Enthusiast Fact: The producers hated the "Cuban Pete" musical number and wanted it gone. They insisted that it was too long, not funny and dragged, but test audiences loved it so much that they kept it in. Lost In Adaptation Fact: Based on a Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, which frequently comprised very dark horror stories on how the mask would murder people with cartoon antics. Chuck Russell has said that the movie script started off in that tone before being transformed as a vehicle for Jim Carrey's unique comedy. Live Action Cartoon Fact: Chuck Russell revealed that a lot of money was saved on special effects after Jim Carrey was cast. Carrey's body movements were so flexible and cartoonish, they didn't see the need to enhance them digitally. As befits Stanley's obsession with cartoons, The Mask acts like various cartoon characters, most notably the Tasmanian Devil (traveling as a tornado), Pepe Le Pew (romancing Tina (Cameron Diaz) in the park), Bugs Bunny ("dying" in the gangster's arms), and Tex Avery's Wolf (seeing Tina in the nightclub). Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Charlie's (Richard Jeni) car is a 1970 Cadillac DeVille Convertible [68367F]. Eddie's (Denis Forest) car is a 1990 Lincoln Continental. Kelloway's (Peter Riegert) car is a 1986 Ford LTD Crown Victoria. The loaner car from the mechanic is a Studebaker. Two different models are used: the car that Stanley (Jim Carrey) picks it up is a Studebaker Commander State 4-door sedan (1951) and in the bridge scene the car that falls apart is a Studebaker Land Cruiser (1950); the difference is noticeable in the bullet nose fitting and the grille.
I first saw this movie when I was 5. Like you both said, seeing it when you're young does hit different. Perhaps most of the jokes weren't too out of my understanding back then, or they really were and I'm having a blast finding out what the jokes are. But even little stuff like "p-a-r-t-why" gets some good laughs out of me today. Plus, as it turns out, Cameron Diaz's introduction was my first crush ever, and I didn't realize that til a about a year ago 😅

Did you recognise The mechanics office? It is the iconic interior of the "Ghostbusters" HQ which was actually in L.A (while the exterior is of course famously Hook & Ladder Company 8 FDNY, NYC)
It's more specifically an homage to Tex Avery cartoons. The cartoon clip of Wolf in a zoot suit with Red was Tex Avery. This was the first film to seamlessly blend CGI elements into live actors.

"Red hair, pouting lips & white blouse" - He's talking about Natalie 😜😂😉 17:06 Me everytime I see Michelle & Natalie 😍🔥😍🔥😍😉🙂 This is based on a comicbook series & they where originally more darker, grim & violent. It wasn't only Stanley Ipkiss who wore the mask, but different people also, such as Lt. Kellaway (who would basically become the main character because after his experience wearing the mask he goes on a search trying to find it & end it, but there's always a new person who gets its hand on it). The Mask has the personality of Dorian, but with a more twisted humor & not Looney Tunes cartoon humor. He looks like the Jim Carrey version, but with a larger head. He's not even called The Mask, instead he's called The Big Head Killer. If they ever decide to reboot The Mask, I would actually wanna see a direct adaptation of the original comics. Done right, of course. After the movie they made a cartoon show based of the movie. It got 3 seasons & it was actually really good. And like you mentioned earlier, Peggy actually becomes one of the main protagonists in the show. The only character not showing up is Cameron Diaz's character.
Michelle & Natalie Jim Carrey did his Clint Eastwood in front of Clint, himself when Clint was getting award for lifetime. One of Jim's earlier movies was in Clint's 1988's Dirty Harry: The Dead Pool. Jim played Heroin Addicted rock musician.
I first became aware of Jim Carrey in a comedy variety show from the late '80's called _In Living Color._ I think this did the lion's share of the work needed to bring him to national attention in time for the movie _Ace Ventura: Pet Detective._ His performances on both of these platforms went a long way to cement him in place, nationally, as a _comedic_ figure where he lived quite comfortably through _The Mask,_ _Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls,_ and _Liar Liar._ In '98, though, he started to expand his range a little. _The Truman Show_ is a movie with a _few_ funny parts, but mainly, it's a drama. _Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind_ is a sci-fi romance. In each case, Jim Carrey slips into the part naturally. He's an actor with range.
I loved this film as a kid, it's another great example of great 90s films. Now as an adult watching I understand all the jokes and references and it's been fun rewatching childhood films and seeing new things and meaning that went over my head as a kid. Jim Carrey had a fantastic 1994 with three top notch comedy films with Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber and of course The Mask. They certainly don't make then like this anymore, which is a real same considering the very low quality garbage Hollywood is pumping out.
(At 9:12) out of all the cameos on this movie the most recognizable to me would have to be the Tasmanian Devil or "Taz" for short, from the _Looney Tunes_ franchise. Specifically, the pillow on his couch and the cyclone he makes every time he travels or transforms.
19:51-Hey even thugs wanna look good at the Oscars, you know! 27:25 -On SNL in '76. I watched host Desi Arnaz close the show with this number, and Had the whole studio band and cast conga -lining through the audience and studio while credits rolled..fun as all get out ( The line even went through the broadcast control room!) 33:10-Milo's breed is one of the smartest of dogs,..My pal had one that loved to go surfing with him. I loved Carrey's skits on "Living Color"..His rubber face and agility made him a natural for this movie.
18:19 "I love how no one finds this weird." Well, I mean, as far as anyone else is concerned, the guy's just an eccentric who likes to wear a mask when he dances. People are prepared to forgive a _lot_ when a guy knows his way around the dance floor.
When Stanley puts on the mask and transforms everyone is put under a spell. You realize that properly when he does the musical number with the Police. By the way, one of the best scenes in Jim Carey's career 😅
I think the funniest part about this movie is not many people know that this was based on a very very violent and dark comic book. This is my favorite Jim Carrey film. Also, Cameron Diaz's breakout...I love her in this movie!
I love this film. It’s my favorite Jim Carrey movie and this truly shows his range as a comedy actor since when he has The Mask on, he’s essentially a cartoon character, plus the story is really good. Great reaction guys, have a good day and take care!
That's probably a call back to 'Naked Gun' when Frank is "searching" a guy but is actually going through his partner's pockets. 😂 Frank: _"He's got a gun."_ Perp: _"That's not mine."*_ Frank: _"I found his wallet. He's got pictures of your wife."_ [*the only time in history that statement was true. 😂]
Other abilities of The Mask are immortality, duplication, shapeshifting, creation, summoning, transfiguration, size manipulation, creating tornadoes and the ability to stretch his limbs. His powers also make him almost incapable of being hurt by normal means. So he is QUITE DANGEROUS....but powered down for the film
This was one of my favorite movies growing up. Obviously a lot of jokes went over my head as a kid, but Jim’s wild performance always kept me entertained. Great pick, ladies.
Great pick ladies. The Mask may not be Jim’s funniest movie, but it does give me 90s nostalgia and i respect it as one of his great Comicbook Movies, they’ve yet to find anyone else who could play The Mask. 💚
That movie hyped my whole life as a kid. The very first time I saw Cameron Diaz Jim is an impression, comedy icon. Beverly Hills Cop 4 streams on Netflix on July 3rd Do 2 reactions to Beverly Hills Cop 2 & 3 now
I agree with all of those, except Yes Man. Yes Man wasn’t one of his bests… it wasn’t a bad movie. But it just pales in comparison to his old movies. He wasn’t the same after Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that was his last actual good movie. Nothing he did after that was as good
The Cable Guy, great underrated Jim Carrey film directed by Ben Siller! The Blu-ray even includes a commentary featuring Ben Stiller, Judd Apatow AND Jim Carrey. Jim never does commentary, so this was a real treat!
The Cable Guy is not underrated. It is true that people were uncomfortable with it when it first came out, but it wasn’t as hated as everybody made it out to be. And these days it’s a very beloved movie
Cable Guy was wildly misunderstood when it came out and didn't do well unfortunately. It's really dark, but that's become some of Ben Stiller's best type of work. I think it is ripe for re-evaluation.
@@LordVolkovCable Guy didn’t do as poorly as people made it out to be, it’s true that people were uncomfortable with it, but not as much as people like to say it was.
As a kid, I preferred The Mask character. As an adult, the Stanley Ipkiss character is my favourite and seems a lot more like who Jim Carrey is or was back then when he's not having to constantly perform for people in public. The character is a lot more interesting. He's still funny, but he's more human and I think that was his audition for more serious roles like The Truman Show, The Majestic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (my favourite). He also had a highly underrated turn as the narrator in the fantastic movie Simon Birch, about a kid with a terminal illness and his friend. He plays the kid's friend as an adult.
Thank you for seeing that Jim Carrey plays different characters… you have no idea how sick I am of people saying that he always plays the same character… those people are STUPID
Fun Fact: Jim Carrey was so good at contorting his face, he saved the production a bunch of money on CGI because they didn't need to use it for lots of scenes! Also, Jim Carrey is such a comical genius. I wish he and Robin Williams could have done something together.
@@natalieRGrace how come you didn’t like this movie as much as his others? This movie was part of what made him a big star next to Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber

This was before the marvel movies. Loki as the trickster, used to mess with the other gods and at one point had a blind god kill another with an arrow of Hawthorne, and Tor hunted Loki for a long time before the catch and punishment. Bound by dwarven chains, with a serpent’s venom dripping on his face, but Loki,’s wife held a bowl to catch the drops, and the reason we get earthquakes is his thrashing when she has to go and empty the bowl. Folklore.

I enjoy watching you ladies doing reactions. Always well thought out and articulated with poise and beauty. Please do yourselves and your followers a favor and react to the 'real' Mask movie. It is called Mask, not to be confused with The Mask which you just did. It stars Cher and Sam Elliott. It is one of the most touching movies I have seen, and I have seen quite a few in my day. It is based on the true story or Rocky Dennis a marvelous young man born with severe facial deformation. Thus the name Mask. Having seen you two do several reactions, I would bet on you loving it.
Not gonna lie I really wish I had a Celebrity Teacher for a week in Cameron Diaz cause she was the girl next door type of lady in her prime in movies like this along with There's something about Mary and Charlies Angels as well 3:30
Over the top but what a great film, showcasing the talent Jim Carrey has...his third best role to me. For a first big role Cameron pulled it off effortlessly. (In my opinion, Jim did some of his best work in “The Majestic”, my favorite film of his)
I watched this in theater. I knew about Jim Carrey with this movie (but maybe I saw him before in Peggy Sue Got Married or Once Bitten) so, for me, Jim Carrey always have been the guy of The Mask. Funny thing when you said "she is really interested..." lol. Tina was the good one since the begin... she "is not bad, She is just drawn that way"
Other then maybe Ace Ventura pet detective i think most jim carey fans would agree The mask is his best and most iconic movie , Ace Ventura and cable guy might be the only other two movies that come close

10:17 Natalie secretly getting the sight gag. 😁 The animated series is worth watching for the first few seasons. The original comic book it's based on is however much, much darker than this movie.
You’ve never seen Truman Show?? I’d always thought you had! 😳 I don’t think you should watch Cable Guy though, it would creep you out. He’s the villain in it and he’s very scary lol
This is one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies, right up there with the Ace Ventura films. Precisely because it has the Looney Tunes vibes and some great one-liners. 👌 I've seen it many times and will watch it again. I'm glad you Lovely Ladies liked it a bit atleast. Still a fun reaction, though. 👍😎👍
Good Reaction! 🖒 Remembered watching this at around 12 years old. It was an enjoyable movie to watch back in the 90s. My aunts and younger cousins really liked it. Agree with the hoot rating, but there were definitely better Jim Carrey films for the adults. Actually dozed off during this movie reaction and when I woke up, it seemed like Michelle was about to fall asleep too! 😂
I highly recommend it. It's the true story of Rocky Dennis who had craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare sclerotic bone disorder. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 16.
It saddens me when we don't have anyone like Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, John Candy, Chris Farley, Robin Williams even Mike Meyers anymore. Another example of lazy studios not looking for new talent.

I absolutely love this film. Carrey was born to play it. And the soundtrack is amazing.
This and Aladdin's Genie made me wish i had cartoon superpowers.
The original comic book was much darker.
100% True
I love this film. It’s my favorite Jim Carrey movie and this truly shows his range as a comedy actor since when he has The Mask on, he’s essentially a cartoon character, plus the story is really good. Great reaction guys, have a good day and take care!
Thank you! You too Jared!
A Bazooka? I have a permit for that I picture of Callaway's Wife WHAT? UH OH!🤣🤣🤣🤣 26:08
That's probably a call back to 'Naked Gun' when Frank is "searching" a guy but is actually going through his partner's pockets. 😂
Frank: _"He's got a gun."_
Perp: _"That's not mine."*_
Frank: _"I found his wallet. He's got pictures of your wife."_
[*the only time in history that statement was true. 😂]
37:15 "That's a spicy meatball" is a line from an early '70s Alka-Seltzer commercial, which was still pretty well-remembered at the time.
Toon powers
Jim Carrey was the only actor to come out with 3 hit movies in 1994 AVE VENTURA PET DETECTIVE, DUMBER & DUMBER & THE MASK
Great year!
Saw this movie as an adult and loved it it is by far my favorite Jim Carrey movie
I was very disappointed with their review of it. I can’t believe they didn’t think it was as good his other movies that they’ve seen of his
The Mask: Gets a movie
The Mystery Men: Get a movie
The Flaming Carrot: "Ut!"
11:41 Let's just take a moment to acknowledge what a wonderful dog Milo is.
33:10 A _wonderful_ dog.
35:09 A _wonderful_ dog.
35:59 🤨Um...
This was basically our Deadpool back then.
The actor who plays the detective cop played in 1978 ANIMAL HOUSE
Have never seen that either!
You gotta give credit to Stanley Ipkiss for that step up to the plate in that dude face splendid out facts and truth like that was genius 22:10
You ladies are smoookkiinnnn!! My favorite part is the cha cha sequence 😊
Another good Jim Carrey movie is A Series of Unfortunate Events. He played the villain of the piece, and, of course, he did a great job of it!
That movie hyped my whole life as a kid.
The very first time I saw Cameron Diaz
Jim is an impression, comedy icon.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 streams on Netflix on July 3rd

Ladies your hilarious. You're trying to make sense out of something that is essentially a cartoon! LOL🤣
I love The Mask. 4/5. My favorite Jim Carey's performances are The Cable Guy, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, & Yes Man.
I agree with all of those, except Yes Man. Yes Man wasn’t one of his bests… it wasn’t a bad movie. But it just pales in comparison to his old movies. He wasn’t the same after Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that was his last actual good movie. Nothing he did after that was as good
I was a few months old when my parents watched it in the cinema I love this movie can’t believe it’s now been 30 years
And this is when I realize that Reg E. Cathey - Norman Wilson from "The Wire" - is in "The Mask"...
Only Jim Carrey can do the green face, zoot suits, fedoras and horse teeth justice.
💯😂
Awesome reaction ladies one of Jim carreys best more carrey movies please
Thanks!
This has been one of my favourites since I was a kid
i love cartoons so i love The Mask. also love The Cable Guy. it's dark. i like dark humor...
The foundation of my entire childhood personality started with this 💀
Fun Fact: Jim Carrey was so good at contorting his face, he saved the production a bunch of money on CGI because they didn't need to use it for lots of scenes!
Also, Jim Carrey is such a comical genius. I wish he and Robin Williams could have done something together.
That would have been awesome!
I’m glad to see you’re smart… I’m so sick of people dismissing him as “just another typical comedian.” 🙄 that’s completely false
@@nsasupporter7557 yes Jim Carrey to me is and was a comedic genius ❤️ and also a great dramatic actor
@@natalieRGrace how come you didn’t like this movie as much as his others? This movie was part of what made him a big star next to Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber
The car shop or chop shop in this movie was used in other popular movies such as Ghostbusters 1 & 2 National Security The Mask & BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA
Folklore.
I say "That's a spicy meatball" more than is healthy I think ;)
I say "but first" with a similar inflection too!
The Mask's one-liners are hilarious.
11:13 "He put that right in my floor, then he jumped out the window, officer!"
And you were _alarmed._ So you called the police at your _earliest_ convenience... which was... the next day? 🤔
Hey so yall do know they were referencing actual-Norse-mythology Loki and not Marvel Loki, right? Because your outro suggested otherwise. Pretty good video though!
This movie was a big part of my childhood.
Love it to death.
Thanks!!
Not gonna lie I really wish I had a Celebrity Teacher for a week in Cameron Diaz cause she was the girl next door type of lady in her prime in movies like this along with There's something about Mary and Charlies Angels as well 3:30
Absolutely the best movie Jim Carrey did
always been my favorite of his as well. staple of my childhood movie wise
It's based on jim carreys real life lol 😅
Love both of y’all! Beautiful and entertaining!
Thank you!
Over the top but what a great film, showcasing the talent Jim Carrey has...his third best role to me. For a first big role Cameron pulled it off effortlessly. (In my opinion, Jim did some of his best work in “The Majestic”, my favorite film of his)
Haven’t seen that!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment enjoy your commentary...give that film a chance, it's good
That cop said "20 ought buckshot". I don't think it exists.
I watched this in theater. I knew about Jim Carrey with this movie (but maybe I saw him before in Peggy Sue Got Married or Once Bitten) so, for me, Jim Carrey always have been the guy of The Mask.
Funny thing when you said "she is really interested..." lol. Tina was the good one since the begin... she "is not bad, She is just drawn that way"
Cameron Diaz never looked hotter than in this movie. It was before the Calista Flockhart skeletor insanity hit Hollywood
This was her first movie.
She had just come off of a modeling career and it shows 😍 Peak Cameron Diaz looks
@@LordVolkov this was the only movie where she was attractive
Other then maybe Ace Ventura pet detective i think most jim carey fans would agree The mask is his best and most iconic movie , Ace Ventura and cable guy might be the only other two movies that come close
Dumb and Dumber is pretty iconic 😁
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment Eh, I never watched it when it came out but it is definitely one of his other well known movies I assume it was good because I have heard nothing but good things about it.
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 It is iconic to comedy and the 90’s!
Holy Smokes wrong door to open with all that money😂😂 20:31
That was a lot of fun. I never saw it in the theater only on TV. I like Jim best as Ace Ventura but I love the line in this movie "Somebody stop me!" Thanks ladies!😁
Yes!!
A classic line SMOKIN! 9:00
If you ladies want to see something totally different from the usual Jim Carrey Comedies, then check out a movie called - THE NUMBER 23 ( 2007 Psychological Thriller ) Jim Carrey & Virgina Madsen ( candyman 1992 )
Hello there gorgeous Michelle and Natalie Happy Memorial Day ladies it's incredibly nice to see you here can't wait to watch you react to The MASK with Jim Carrey known as Stanley Ipkiss Cameron Diaz as Tina too Good Luck and let's have a excellent day shall we? 0:40
This movie is 100% in my top 20 of all time!
Dam Natalie all that you are, and you like Jim Carey... can you be Amy more perfect 🥰
Cheers for this reaction 👌 can't wait to see more from you both 😊
Thank you!!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment You are both very welcome! Keep up the good work 👏 ❤️👊
10:17 Natalie secretly getting the sight gag. 😁
The animated series is worth watching for the first few seasons. The original comic book it's based on is however much, much darker than this movie.
You’ve never seen Truman Show?? I’d always thought you had! 😳
I don’t think you should watch Cable Guy though, it would creep you out.
Thank you!!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment did you ladies notice that the Redhead was the same gal who played Maid Marion in "Robinhood, Men in Tights.?" 😆
@@your-average-patriot-nerd146 Amy Yasbeck. She was John Ritter's wife. They filmed Problem Child 1 & 2 together.
@Experiment_6_2_6 That's right, I forgot that she was married to John Ritter. 👍 I never saw the problem child movies.
Excellent reaction ladies! If you haven’t already you should have a look at another Jim Carrey movie The Majestic.
Thanks!!
I am 65 years old and I still love cartoons, especially Looney Toons.
The Comic/Graphic Novel is waaaay darker, Jim Carey lightened this role up quite a bit
Fun Fact: 2:12 that actress is on Inspector Gadget (1999) & Jim Carrey did a movie called Cable Guy (1996) along with Matthew Broderick
I was 7 years old when The MASK came out as a movie now I'm 37 Oh Man how time fly's 1:18
Did you see "The number 23"? If not, then you might want to check that one out. It's a pretty serious Jim Carrey's movie.
Now imagine Deadpool wore the mask? Not only he’ll break the fourth wall like he always does but the power of the mask he can rewrite the MCU 😂
I like it more as an adult. There are so many jokes that go way over a kids head
(At 15:49) Well, technically most of it is more Tex Avery than Looney Tunes, with the exception of Taz, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck.
Good Reaction! 🖒
Remembered watching this at around 12 years old.
😂😂
Have you ladies ever seen the Mask film from 1985 with Sam Elliott and Cher? It's a great film based off a true story.
No!
I highly recommend it. It's the true story of Rocky Dennis who had craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare sclerotic bone disorder. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 16.
@@DaveG45-47 how sad.
It is but according to Rocky's mom he never let his condition bring him down and the movie portrays that.
Sort of wonder what Cameron Diaz's character would have been like with the mask on.
If you are going to emulate a cartoon character at a first date, please don't pick Pepé Le Pew
It saddens me when we don't have anyone like Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, John Candy, Chris Farley, Robin Williams even Mike Meyers anymore.
Another example of lazy studios not looking for new talent.
