no one, not even himself, can repeat that vocal. And when I say that he wouldn't do it himself again, I'm talking about him at an age when his voice was good, I think even 35 could still reach it.
Paul had a great voice for singing aggressive that he didn't use very often. Reminds of Ronnie James Dio's voice with so much power and melody. Both amazing singers.
As a huge fan of both Ronnie James Dio and The Beatles i agree, Paul is a great powerful rock singer much like Dio (they are of course different), they also both could do the most beautiful singing as well as the most brutal powerful classic rock singing. Paul is a great bassplayer as well, Dio actually played bass for years as well in the early days.
Paul reaches some really high notes in this song with a shredded throat Little Richard style, kind of like he did on early albums. The choir-like background harmonies are excellent. This is part of the very best of the Beatles, although that pretty well describes almost everything they released.
@@lauracampagne-gregorits2648 I saw a video of Paul doing Helter Skelter at a recent concert. He was painfully struggling with it and couldn't quite get to the super high notes. He'll always be able to draw a sellout crowd, but maybe it's time to skip those kinds of songs. He got thunderous applause from the audience, but I'd have to believe that was because he's Paul McCartney, one of The Beatles, and that he made an effort to try. Maybe he was under the weather with a sore throat. It can happen to anyone. He's definitely not so young anymore.
Unfortunately (but fortunately), belting songs out like this is one of the reasons his voice is a mere "shadow" of it's former self but, man, what an incredible performance this is. Between the lowest note in "Cri-i-i-i-i-ide (low A) to "Woo"(E) near the end, he covers more than 3 1/2 octaves! Pretty astounding.
It's about Jane Asher, in my opinion. Several friends mentioned how "heartbroken" Paul was when she left him. He first penned this song in late 1968, and in December of that year, Paul told a journalist that he and Jane "were still in love with one another, but it's impossible." Jane had made up her mind - she was not coming back. Other songs I think are about the situation are Hey Jude, Honey Pie, Martha My Dear, Let it Be, The Long and Winding Road, and part of I've Got A Feeling (I'd hate to miss the train/And if you leave me/I won't be late again...One evening in 1963, Paul missed the last train home to Liverpool, and Mrs. Asher suggested he stay the night at their house. One night became two-and-a-half-years. It was the catalyst in turning their innocent romance into a relationship). "Jane Asher was the first woman to reject him, and he did not like the experience", said Alistair Taylor, who goes into great detail about the breakup in his book. Also, note the ad-lib Can You Take Me Back? Paul sings between takes of I Will. He wrote I Will soon after their engagement, and when he got round to recording it after she left him, the two avaliable outtakes are both notably negative for a positive love song. Jane Asher, the one who got away...
You absolutely pinned it, my friend! Only a broken man strains his voice THAT badly to get his plea across! In her book about Lennon...Cynthia Powell Lennon also wrote that Paul " was heartbroken" when Jane Asher left him! They were very much in love but he did her wrong!!!!!
He was schooled by Little Richard, and then took it to a WHOLE ‘nother level. Also, Paul is the undisputed king of vocal doubling. They actually invented the Harmonizer (phil collins sound etc) to imitate what Paul could do on the spot. Just out of control. It’s even more astonishing soloed.

The main lead singer when the Beatles broke huge was John and there was a reason for that. Paul you could say was an equal and a specialist in vocal harmonies. It's definitely double tracked (and not just ADT like they often used, it def sounds like two different takes) really impressive to match the intensity of such a performance!
Yeah, it’s double tracked on the bridge. Even though he’s almost singing identically to the first track, you can hear a subtle difference on “…and cried.” [@1:24] It’s not until “…and died.” [@1:39] does it go back to single track.
I was biking from London Bridge where I had just rented a bike in November of 2013 with my sights set on the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and on to Abbey Road, a place I had wanted to visit since I first heard the album in October of 1969. True story, the song I had in my head as I was nearing St Johns Woods was "Oh Darling."
How incredible and exciting it must have been working in those control rooms at Emi watching The Beatles work. Watching the interaction between Paul and John. Just wish I could have been there.
seriously no one can sing like this but what's more amazing is that people don't recognize his singing because of his writing talent. HE IS GOD . seriously
My theory is that this is about John. "Oh Darling" becomes "Oh Johnny" by the last verse, with "I'll never let you down". Written during early Let It Be sessions when John's "Don't Let Me Down" was fresh. It's a plea to John disguised as a love song.
This is the guy that sang She's Leaving Home. He can sound like an angelic choirboy but here he sounds like the raunchiest soul singer that ever existed. Tell me one other singer who could do that. Freddie Mercury? Nope. Brian Wilson? Nope. Ray Charles? Nope. Paul's the best of them all.
It’s crazy this is the same bloke who sang “She’s Leaving Home” just two years before this masterpiece was recorded… Paul is mind-boggling in the best way!
With mentioning Brian Wilson, he almost could for a bit. In the 70s, for some time he could use his formerly gorgeous falsetto and sound vintage, but give it would good cough and he sounds like he some 3 packs of ciggerettes.
@@jerrysmith2354 But even when he tried (sorry but I wouldn't even like to hear Brian Wilson attempting a rock screaming vocal) he never would sound so good as Macca would when screaming.

It's one of the most obvious double tracks I've heard. Doesn't take anything away from it, but it certainly is a part of why it sounds so full
OK, Paul. Now let's record Michelle! Easily one of the greatest popular music vocalist to EVER "hit the big time"!
Great performance by Paul...👍👏👏
Paul has a fantastic voice.number one Beatles fans 4 ever.
What a voice!
amazing oh my god soooooo perfect
I love Beatles so much, and i love Paul... this made my night!!!
Thanks for watching!! We are going to load more beatles isolated tracks, you can also listen "Don't Let Me Down" on the channel if you wish!
Flawless.
How incredible and exciting it must have been working in those control rooms at Emi watching The Beatles work. Watching the interaction between Paul and John. Just wish I could have been there.
seriously no one can sing like this
but what's more amazing is that people don't recognize his singing because of his writing talent.
HE IS GOD . seriously
Absolutely amazing vocals. Don't think there is a singer alive today with those much talent.
Paul:
El mejor Beatle!
🙏
Wow his anger is so evident without the music.
It seems much more like desperation.
@@lawrence142002 You both got it wrong, it's not anger or desperation, it's urgency, passion, and ass-kicking rock and roll.
@@seancurran6727 Well i'm gonna have to go along with you on this one.
With the music too
Always loved this song. Paul, thanks for trying to keep the band going; sometimes people do not see loyalty when it's right in their face.
My theory is that this is about John. "Oh Darling" becomes "Oh Johnny" by the last verse, with "I'll never let you down". Written during early Let It Be sessions when John's "Don't Let Me Down" was fresh. It's a plea to John disguised as a love song.
The Abbey Road album is where Paul was at the top of his vocal abilities. And "Oh Darling!" perfectly shows it. Insane range and diversity, unmatched.
Your the greatest paul i love you
Potencia en su canto exelente mucha educacion. En todo son insuperables The Beatles
MY HEART IS WEEPING GENTLY. WONDERFUL.
WHAT A VOICE. Thanks for sharing love from Manchester England .
I’m so in love with this man.
Eh, no.
Freddy Mercury
@@stephen6845 Freddy Mercury was a perfect singer. At reaching high and hard operatic notes and sounding dramatic. But he never screamed a song like Paul did.
Amazing Paul's vocal and great back vocals!
Amazing singing
Simply AMAZING vocals and background harmonies!
The Beatles...greatest band of all time!
Que maravillosa interpretación. Grande Paul
I guess there's a reason these doobies are so timeless, those harmonies are pretty perfect
Paul McCartney..what a fantastic singer…!
Well, it's clear he was the greatest rock shouter ever. And also why his voice is now shot to bits
Shot to pieces at 79….
Even if you never sang in your life, your voice would be shot to pieces too at 79.
