Paul McCartney still has that boyish charm after all these years. He’s just completed another tour of Australia, and at 81 years old he still absolutely wowed his record attending crowds with his non stop 49 hit songs ( his and the Beatles ) over 3 hours. His energy and shear talent and tenacity speaks for itself. A true legend.

He is indeed a great bassist BUT on this particular song, George Harrison was playing bass as McCartney was tickling the ivories...John Lennon on guitar of course.

Absolutely no question about it. Easily one the top most flavorful bass players in any genre, any history. I've alway said the top 3 ingredients behind their early success was 1.) Their vocal harmonies 2.) Their "under two minute song arrangements. and 3.) Paul's bass work.
that is INSANE, you know? There is another video here on youtube of a bassist player showing Paul's musical evolution with the bass and he shows exactly how Paul plays the bass filling the blanks instead of just keeping the tempo.
Hard to believe that the smooth, soft tone of Paul's melodic voicings could produce the best throat shredding ever - and seemingly without any lasting ill effects..
The most eclectic band of all time. You want rock: "Back in the U.S.S.R". You want a soft ballad: "Here, There and Everywhere". You want storytelling: "She's Leaving Home". You want classic harmony: "Because". You want Folk: "Blackbird". you want 60's love song: "If I Fell" or "And I Love Her".

Paul lived a few blocks away from Abbey Road studio at the time, and while recording this song he got into the habit of getting to the studio early each morning an hour before the other Beatles arrived, then tried this song only once. Not happy, he would drop it and try again the next morning and this went on for several days until he was happy with the vocals. He would only try once so as not to break his voice, for obvious reasons if you listen to the song. He said “5 years ago I could have done this in a flash”. Great performance. Thanks for reacting.

One of my very favorite McCartney vocals. Still going strong at the age of 81. Congrats, Paul, on your very latest no. 1 with "Now and Then." Beatlemania alive and well in 2023.
When the Beatles are discussed, this great song is never even mentioned, because the Beatles had so MANY great songs. There is no band like the Beatles, and I feel fortunate to have seen them in concert in 1965.
Amazing!! ❤ I was born in 65' I asked my Mom when I was about 12 or 13 years old about the Beatles when Sargent Peppers lonely heart club movie came out, she said they'd go bananas screaming n crying for the Beatles ❤ that you couldn't hear them perform at all!! Of course, I had no idea at the time that it would be a big deal in the years to come.
The thing you need to think about, Ringo said Paul made them all work, and if it was up to the rest of them, they were in to having a good time and would have only put out a few songs

Now you know why we have been requesting this song so much. As you discovered, everything about it is amazing. One of the few albums I had when it came out in 1969 and I still play it in its entirety, the way it is supposed to be listened to. Glad you liked it and keep checking out the Beatles. There is so much there.

From my favorite Beatle album, Abbey Road. I think Paul Needed to take a Ricola lozenge after that performance!😅 A good night for your reactions tonight, 3 for 3. Thanks guys.😎
he played on a right hand kit, but is left handed. his grandmother made him learn things right handed..... it takes him longer to do drum fills....... that is why his style is so unique and distinct
I love it when each succeeding generation discovers how timeless The Beatles music is. I was 12, an American Navy Brat living in Scotland when they started making it big in the UK. My sons were steeped in their music and now, one of my 8 year old grandson's favorite songs is, "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
In 1964 when the Beatles hit I was 8 years old. But even 8 year olds knew how special they were. I was Paul’s girl then and 60 years later I am still Paul’s girl. Some loves last a lifetime. ❤
Same… watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show… So exciting. My brother and I would drive our parents crazy singing their songs in the car at the top of our lungs. I can still remember singing I want to Hold Your Hand on the way to the first McDonalds in our area. Also, aside from drive ins, theirs were the only movies we went to see as a whole family.
I was born in 1964 and took to The Beatles long before I could walk or talk. According to my parents I just lit up when hearing them. By 3 or 4 they gave me a little kids' record player and The Beatles were the soundtrack of my childhood with Paul oh so special from the beginning.
@@robinmills8675 I hate that woman. Sad thing is Paul and she had a little girl. I'm glad he found Nancy. They seem relaxed and natural together. Heather wanted the spotlight ... Nancy avoids it. Sorry you missed your shot at Paul.
Nice to hear The Beatles as they are No1 here in the UK with 'Now and Then'. Quite a soulful one from them with Paul singing. A few good ones you haven't done are' Get Back' , 'Let it be' , 'The ballad of John and Yoko' and the less well known but great 'Things we said today'-Colin Ward
Have you ever heard Yoko's "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss my lips? On the Imagination album. If you haven't heard it - a word of warning! DO NOT LISTEN TO IT! LOL. I'm in the U.S. Yesterday was Veterans Day here. Honoring all of our Vets. I'm glad that you guys were on our side as well. Thanks to all Brits. You are not forgotten.
Cool that you noted the scratchiness in Paul’s voice. He got to the studio first everyday for about a week to scream a take of the song until he got the sound he wanted.
An under-appreciated Beatles classic. This album, esp. side, 2 (the best second side ever) even more so than this great song, was Paul at his very, very best.
So fortunate to have been one of the millions in my generation to have been taught our ABCs by the Beatles. Anticipating every new album release, we would unwrap them like a priceless gift & spend hours being amazed of all the new places they would take us. They never disappointed....✌️♥️🎶🎤🎸
@@HalfEatenMedia yeah "Maybe I'm Amazed" is amazing, you can feel the emotion he was feeling when he wrote it, and while singing it as well. I'm always moved by how very honest and raw both the lyrics and his vocals are.
Glad you both enjoy this song! You guys should stick with Abbey Road. My recommended next song >>> I Want You (She's So Heavy). UPDATE: Apologies...Jay, if you're reading this, I did not realize that you reacted to I Want You already! Well, in that case, I recommend You Never Give Me Your Money right into the Abbey Road Medley.
I know the hate that's gonna come my way (trust me, my friends are on me about this) but Abbey Road is my least fave Beatles album. Just don't get the over-the-top love it gets. For me it gets brought down by all those joining segments - the actual songs are pretty amazing (this one shows this) but I could do without those in-between bits. They bother me. LoL
Jay actually reacted to I Want You about 2-1/2 years ago without Amber. It was his first reaction to a Beatles song and I think the first Beatles song he had ever heard. He wasn’t too impressed. I wonder what his thoughts would be now after having listened to more of their music. Would he have a different appreciation of the song.
I’m 75 and have been a Beatles fan since I saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show. I’m with you Amber. I’m a Paul girl from the very beginning. My daughter loves Ringo. My 7 year old granddaughter is a Beatles fan too. You can’t go wrong with any Beatles song. The new release Now and Then will definitely get you in the “feels”. The video and song are wonderful.
One of the best Beatles songs ever. Paul just rips it, and the backing harmonies of John and George are superb. Then you throw in Ringo’s drumming, Paul’s bass, and George’s raw guitar, you have the formula for a great Beatles tune. Nice reaction. If you want to hear a similar banger from John you have to hear Hey Bulldog or the early Beatles cover of Money.
John, so down on Abbey Road....sings backup like a songbird on this song (and the whole record, for that matter!) One of the many mysteries of the Beatles...
Absolutely was a Paul McCartney girl! I remember seeing them on The Ed Sullivan show at about 5 years old, and I picked Paul then!!!!! Lol. And this is one of my favorite Beatle songs!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤. Great reaction!!!!
PAPERBACK WRITER, THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO, TAXMAN, and Ringo vocalizing his joy in the OCTOPUS' GARDEN are some really good songs still left in the Beatles vault. I love OH! DARLING. It gets straight to the point, and Paul sings with some real passion. Enjoy Veterans Day. And God Bless our Troops !!
I grew up through the Beatles era (literally). Always a fan, but not a real fan until about 1975. Here's one: I first heard "Ballad of John and Yoko" in about 1980 and I...hated it! Fast forward to today, and my "favorite" Beatles song is *probably*......."Ballad of John and Yoko"! It's too involved to explain it in the UA-cam comments section, but it's true, in total honesty.
You can't go wrong with The Beatles. You just don't do their acoustics and love songs enough though. It is their romantic side that will make you realize their true brilliance. Soft, sweet, romantic. You are really missing out on their best work.
@@pjg58x Absolutely those tunes. As well as: Love Me Do And I Love Her In My Life Here, There, and Everywhere Do You Want to Know a Secret, Norwegian Wood Hide Your Love Away Michelle They did a ton of romance tunes. Too many to list. Romance is where the Beatles really shine, and it is strange that RSR only picks up on it when Lennon is in his solo career.
"If I fell", "And I love her" are two of the best old softies by The Beatles. You name 2 songs and 2 more pop into your head, just get all of their albums and be done.
I’m so glad you reacted to this! One of my very favorites. I was 13 when The Beatles came to America. I was a “Beatlemaniac”! 🤣🤣🤣. Ringo was my favorite ❤️. Great reaction! ☮️❤️😎
You guys are so right about Paul's extreme vocals here. In fact, he's pushing it so much in this song, when I was younger, i always thought that was John on lead.
Paul gives you the post-Helter Skelter scream and a little high-pitched Little Richard as well. Paul's vocal range is almost as impressive as his tone. P.S. If you haven't heard Helter Skelter from the White Album you won't believe it. Paul screams and the guitar work is crazy in this proto-punk/metal song that nobody could believe was The Beatles. Get ready to be blown away.
What drew me to the Beatle's was their sheer ability not only to write and sing great songs, but also to play so many different genres, each new record that they came out with was a magical mystery tour in itself !
According to Geoff Emeric's book Recording the Beatle's, Paul would come to the studio early and practice the vocals of Oh Darling. He would sing it one time and say it was not there yet. After a few weeks he recorded it and nailed it. Lennon said later that it was one of the songs he would have loved to sing.
This proves Paul's versatility. He can do a heavy rocker like Helter Skelter, a bluesy raw song like Oh Darling and also quiet ballads like I Will and Yesterday. The man can do it all. My Paul story started in 1964 when I fell in love with him when I saw him on TV when I was 13, and still going strong, even through his solo years, having seen him 10 times in concert. He is a genius, fantastic singer & songwriter. 💖
The Four Lads Who Shook The World. They really did, and thank you Jesus they did. This song is one of my first memories. ❤ Seriously, I was about 2 or 3 when I heard this. I was born a Beatles fan and I'll go Home as a Beatles fan. ❤
Finally! Oh, Darling!! I’ve been begging you to react to this, for 2 years! I knew it would slay you. FYI-Just to add to your amazement : It’s Paul on piano, John on guitar & George on bass!! Not to mention a stunning performance, by Ringo on drums. Thank you for FINALLY reacting to this! It literally does not get better than this. You guys are such a wonderful inspiration, especially to an old veteran live and studio musician, like me! ❤️😎🎸
I was and still am a George Harrison girl. I was in 7th grade when they hit the US and I have been in love with them ever since. Thanks for reviewing them!
My favorite Paul song has been "Get Back" since I was three years old, back in 1971. I hope one day you'll check it out. This one though, never fails to give me chills. For another trippy gem, you still gotta get to "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds."
You know, this track has been added to the new remaster / remix of The Beatles: Blue 1967-1970 compilation, which also closes with the new "Now And Then" track! 🙂
This is from the great Abbey Road, my personal favorite album of all time. It's an album that you must listen to in its entirety. Every song systematically placed to take you on a beautiful journey. This song in particular just reaches to my soul. The backing vocals, Ringos drums and Paul just belting it out makes for an absolutely perfect song! Great reaction guys! Ive waited a while for this one.
There's stuff like Rain and all that, but I reckon Ringo usually did his best work on Paul songs. Benefits of the songs being written by a member of the rhythm section i guess.
You're not alone. It's been my favorite album since I first heard it all the way through in 1975 (as a 12 year old.) Every year I've looked for a better one but never found it....
Sir George Martin, the Beatles producer and the true 'fifth' Beatle, made Paul sing the song over and over till his voice was strained and raspy. This is not what a producer or audio engineer would do ordinarily. Their job is to record and capture the music as technically perfect as possible, but it's just another example of how this time of experimentation in music gave us so much beauty and changed culture around the world. Thank you for doing this! You guys are the best.
My mom was a teenager during the Beatles' heyday and she definitely had crushes on various Beatles at various times, though I think she was mainly a Paul girl (like Amber would've been). I used to have a bunch of her old Beatles albums from when she was a teen and she'd doodled and written all over the covers of the albums, writing her first name with different Beatles' last names, hearts, etc. In fact, she was such a Beatles freak, when I was born she named me John Paul. She told me that she had considered trying to work George and Ringo into my name too but decided that would be a little over the top. Anyway, I've been hoping you guys would get around to this song because I knew you'd love Paul's vocals on this one. And the reaction didn't disappoint!
This was such a great reaction. Thank you Jay and Amber. I think you will love one of the best known Beatles songs called “Yesterday“ written by Paul McCartney. It’s really beautiful, moving and wonderful piano.
Almost 50 years later, the Beatles surprise us all and just went number 1 on the UK charts these past couple of days with their last new release "Now and Then". Was sure that one would be done since it is so fresh.
This song is so great. I love this tune. When I was a kid with my first heartbreak, I would sing this song and think my life was over because of puppy love. This song always makes me cry because it takes me to my first love. Just blew my nose because I was crying. Still love ya Lisa. And yes, we are still friends.
I've been waiting SO long for you guys to react to this one!!! And you two did not disappoint!! Loved your reactions!🤗 "Oh, Darling" is definitely one my absolute favorite Beatles songs.❤💛💚
Can't wait to see you guys react to the new Beatles song, Now and Then, that came out last week. Yes that's right, and new Beatles song! I won't give away anything else here, but let's just say that it tugs at the emotional heartstrings.
I became a studio drummer because of Ringo. People who aren't musically inclined like to say that he got lucky being in The Beatles. Yeah? Listen to that snare work at 2:28, when he does 32nd beats on that snare, which is hard enough! But pay attention to how he's accenting certain beats to the point where he swings those 32nd beats. Think he got lucky? Think he couldn't do that again? Listen at 5:20. He does it again. And this is just one example. Ringo was a monster drummer back in the day.
I’ve Got A Feeling is a great one to react to next! It’s from ‘Let It Be’. It showcases Paul and John at their best duo-ship! Killer vocals from Paul. The smooth vocals from John. Amazing guitar work from George and stellar drumming from Ringo. Its perfect.
The new Beatles song "Now and Then" has broken the record for the fastest selling vinyl record in the last century. In just the week since it came out a total of 19,400 vinyls have been sold so far...and counting! And it's topped the charts in the UK at number one. It debuted at No.1 on Digital Song Sales Chart. And all week long it has been the number 2 trending song on UA-cam.
This was Paul utilizing his Little Richard voice. You can go back to his spot-on versions of Richard's "Long Tall Sally" and "Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey" and then his own rave-ups starting with the Beatles' "I'm Down." I read somewhere that John liked the song and was hoping Paul would let him sing it, but Paul went into the studio before the others arrived for several days to do that vocal and get it right. He could only do a take or two at a time I bet. The Beatles met Richard when they were still gigging in Hamburg and he was passing through town with his band (among the band members was a very young Billy Preston.) Richard used to brag later that he'd "made" the Beatles, and Paul certainly acknowledged the influence of Richard's vocal style.
Possibly my favorite Beatles song ever! The emotion, passion - it’s just so good. So glad to see you react! Also, you all might love When I’m 64 - written and sung by Paul and just overall adorable and fun.

Paul's voice could go from sweet, pure choir boy to gritty, rough rocker at the drop of a hat. One of his MANY talents! And yes, Amber, I was a Paul girl...from their 1st appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show when I was 10 years old & Beatlemania began...to this very day. 70 years old & I still love him. The thing you need to think about, Ringo said Paul made them all work, and if it was up to the rest of them, they were in to having a good time and would have only put out a few songs
Never can go wrong with a Beatles song 😉✌️❤️🍻
Greatest band EVER!!
@@davidadams5280 😱. Rocky Raccoon 🦝 is artistic 😉✌️
@@davidadams5280 No, you are wrong, Rocky Raccoon is great, and you really do not know a fucking thing. Music is of course, subjective, if you have any idea what this even means, (which I doubt).
@@davidadams5280 Worst song by Paul during the Fab Four's run is "Wild Honey Pie", not to be confused w/ "Honey Pie".
@@davidadams5280 Rocky Raccoon was one of my favs. I like offbeat.
Now you know why we have been requesting this song so much. As you discovered, everything about it is amazing. One of the few albums I had when it came out in 1969 and I still play it in its entirety, the way it is supposed to be listened to. Glad you liked it and keep checking out the Beatles. There is so much there.
The four of them were so incredibly talented! Amber, back in the day all girls had a crush on Paul. I also did love George.
Beatles covered every type music, and left crumbs for everyone to follow.
Oh YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! Thank you! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 FINALLY! You guys got to this song! Now you can hear another aspect of what Macca can do, on the Vox AND Bass!!! WE TOLD YOU SO!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I thought George played bass on this.
@@priyaxo8116 You're right. George did play the bass on this one.
@@priyaxo8116👨🏻🦱 Yes, that is true, I should have clarified that!!! 🤦🏻♂️ Being a bass player I tend to combine those two together when talking about Sir Paul; the focus here was his vocals. Sorry for the "misinformation" !✌🏼😃
I can’t believe you are doing this!! Yay!! It’s gonna be epic!!! ❤❤you did a reaction to Paul McCartney by himself with a very raw voice!❤❤
From my favorite Beatle album, Abbey Road. I think Paul Needed to take a Ricola lozenge after that performance!😅 A good night for your reactions tonight, 3 for 3. Thanks guys.😎
Exactly my thought! 3 great ones I must vibe to with them, lol!
Ringo is left handed, which gives he his unique style of drumming.
He plays a right handed kit but he leads with his left.
he played on a right hand kit, but is left handed. his grandmother made him learn things right handed..... it takes him longer to do drum fills....... that is why his style is so unique and distinct
I was mad when he married that gold digger, Heather, while I was available. 😂
@@robinmills8675 I hate that woman. Sad thing is Paul and she had a little girl. I'm glad he found Nancy. They seem relaxed and natural together. Heather wanted the spotlight ... Nancy avoids it. Sorry you missed your shot at Paul.
Me too. Imagine when I discovered my boyfriend was his cousin!
@@broncobra its the most modern sounding song of double fantasy, very cool
Thanks for your reply, we had armistice day on Sat/sun for our veterans. Also glad we are on same side!@@broncobra
Cool that you noted the scratchiness in Paul’s voice. He got to the studio first everyday for about a week to scream a take of the song until he got the sound he wanted.
Ozzy Osborne said the world was grey and the Beatles brought technicolor to the world.
This is regarded by critics as one of McCartney's strongest vocal performances!
That and ‘Wanderlust’ as well as ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’. Very great examples of his range.
@@HalfEatenMedia and Call Me Back Again or Coming Up Live
Personally I love Monkberry Moon Delight 😂 not too many know about it but his vocals are insane on it
@@HalfEatenMedia yeah "Maybe I'm Amazed" is amazing, you can feel the emotion he was feeling when he wrote it, and while singing it as well.
LoL
This song feels jarring to listen to without rolling right into the next track on the album.
That was one of the first songs they covered
@@pjg58x I am wondering that same thing!
I grew up with the Beatles, and This song just brought out emotions... Paul was a great screamer !!
One of the best vocal performances in music history imo
"Hey Bulldog" is brilliant.
There will never be another group like The Beatles, and it was in my generation during the 60's & 70's!
Thank you SO much!!
My favorite Beatles song of all-time!!.
PAPERBACK WRITER,
THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO,
TAXMAN,
and Ringo vocalizing his joy in the OCTOPUS' GARDEN are some really good songs still left in the Beatles vault. I love OH! DARLING. It gets straight to the point, and Paul sings with some real passion.
Enjoy Veterans Day. And God Bless our Troops !!
Wow those are terrible recommendations. There are so many better songs they haven't reacted to.
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek I agree except paperback writer
You can't go wrong with The Beatles. You just don't do their acoustics and love songs enough though. It is their romantic side that will make you realize their true brilliance. Soft, sweet, romantic. You are really missing out on their best work.
“I’ll Follow the Sun” and “Mother Nature’s Son” are two of their most gorgeous, underrated gems.
Songs such as And I Love Her, In My Life, Here There And Everywhere, among others.
Have they done Something?
@@pjg58x Absolutely those tunes. As well as:
Love Me Do
And I Love Her
In My Life
Here, There, and Everywhere
Do You Want to Know a Secret,
Norwegian Wood
Hide Your Love Away

They did a ton of romance tunes.
How about listening to an entire Beatles album?
Or watching the movie A Hard Days Night?
Pau's excellent tribute to 1950s style music and rhythm and blues.
No one sells it like McCartney.... so much talent at everything. And with the Beatles, even some of their lesser-known songs can be spectacular.
One of my favorite McCartney vocals along with Maybe I'm Amazed. 🤘
You guys MUST check out their NEW song - *Now & Then*
BTW - their new song just topped the UK charts. Their 1st #1 in 54 years!
He purposely sang this over and over until his voice reached this state of rawness
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Let It Be"!!!!!
I knew you would enjoy this song! Throwback type of 50’s influenced song…THANKS GUYS!
Little Richard always said, "The Beatles got that 'Oooo!' from me!"
A song sadly seriously misinterpreted by Charles Manson.
Helter Shelter and She Leaving home is a must listen. Paul MCcartney vocals are amazing on both tracks
One of the best from my favorite Beatles album. Amazing song!
Sources are conflicted on the correct line-up.
A lot of people didn't realize that George played bass on this
@@davidholdren1358 Really, didn't know that. I thought Paul was playing bass and singing, But that might be near impossible, piano seems more likely.
I was and still am a George Harrison girl. I was in 7th grade when they hit the US and I have been in love with them ever since. Thanks for reviewing them!
I was definitely a Paul girl - still am! And this is one of my favorite Beatles songs. So glad you enjoyed it!
My favorite Paul song has been "Get Back" since I was three years old, back in 1971. I hope one day you'll check it out. This one though, never fails to give me chills.
For another trippy gem, you still gotta get to "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds."
Beatles are great, they are FIRE. Their music will never die.
My #1 favorite Beatles song! Paul has a rock scream like no other. Love your reaction to this priceless tune. TY!!
I've never heard this before ...Paul's vocal is wow
Paul at full vocal strength. An incredible performance. One of his greatest vocals ever. Glad you finally got around to this one.
This really shows just how they and many other British bands were influenced by southern blues from the U S. ❤
The production is fantastic. Paul had the more musically voice in the band !!! What a gifted band !!!❤❤❤❤❤
Correction: no piano in Yesterday. The song only has strings in it, plus Paul on the acoustic guitar.
That sends chills down the same thing I felt over 40 years ago
There have been other respectable covers of this near impossible song to sing, but only McCartney can bring this song home.
Puppy Love is a phenominum that continues throughout your life. If you are young at heart? lol.
I've been waiting SO long for you guys to react to this one!!! And you two did not disappoint!! Loved your reactions!🤗 "Oh, Darling" is definitely one my absolute favorite Beatles songs.❤💛💚
The absolutely most John song Paul ever wrote! John even said I wished he had written that song...
One of the best recorded blues vocals in history in my opinion. This and Summertime by Janis. Simple perfection.
Correct. Summertime is my favorite big brother tune.

Paul’s vocal on “Long Tall Sally” is great!
I loved playing this song in our band in the 1960's I played the BASS LINE on my Hoffner Beatle Bass
Anything Beatles is wonderful and amazing
its time lets go back too the beginning I Want To Hold Your Hand
Paul is great fan of Little Richard, this reminds me of his voice when he sings Long Tall Sally brilliantly.
Paul practiced and practiced to get his voice for this song❤ 60 yes been in 💕 with paul

Paul's voice could go from sweet, pure choir boy to gritty, rough rocker at the drop of a hat. One of his MANY talents!
