Ironic, isn't it? That the Zelda game that is characterized for being the most open-ended, and having the least progression checks, is the only one we haven't figured out how to skip the tutorial for.
From a programming perspective, The cylindrical check seems more like a distance check than an actual wall you can't get past. That would mean that if link is more than a certain distance away from a specific x,y coordinate centered on the shrine of resurrection, the game will void him out. I think the only hope to skip it is to either set the flag earlier than expected (disabling the check), skip around the check every tick, or teleport directly into a loading zone outside the plateau (if even loaded and loading zones are processed first before the void out check). It's probably very unlikely that any of those will be found, but only time will tell
Technically true LMAO they always love the game more than regular fans but want to get to the best parts of it and I can't blame them. I couldn't figure out how to get off the plateau normally. Skyward sword also had a huge issue with misdirection. Speedrunners solve this issue by having practiced and planned routes.
@@ParagonPKC they don't want the best parts, they want the least parts. There's a skip in I think Ocarina of Time that involves holding a rupee for hours at a time to phase through a wall. I mean they don't explain the castle, but most of that is just making attack up food, grabbing a ton of good weapons, and throwing them all at the bosses very quickly. There is a cool Windblight instakill glitch that you don't see in the Terminal video, I'm not sure if it had been discovered yet.
Playing spyro 2 back on the ps1, i found a few jumps just slightly too far to reach so I tried a running jump, but messed up the timing amd did a double jump glitch. This was a huge plot twist. when I read the inescapable fog I assumed it was about the korok forest, but It was still a great video, now I think I’m gonna try speed running this game
Now that people have figured out memory corruption with thunder arrows and dropping triple shot bows would It in theory be possible to door stasis launch yourself beneath the barrier collect items to perform a memory corruption then continue through the void out barriers around great plateau
It could possibly help for 100% runs or something, I don’t really get how this works, but I’ve watched a few videos about it, and as far as i can tell, it takes some time to set up and get the items, and the glitch is also not 100% reliable. Also, in terms of speed running any percent, this would be way slower than actually doing the great plateau. It’s still a good idea i think tho
So happy to see this channel doing so well despite appearing out of basically nowhere! I love ya Ant, excited to see what you and Linkus have in store for us here!
I would guess that the way the tutorial Plateau is implemented is the same as the Divine Beasts. It's pretty much a different world, separated from the rest of the map, with Hyrule rendered just as background. The bounding cylinder might not even be a collider, but a direct comparison of the horizontal distance from Link's position the world origin against a hard coded limit distance.
Well theres an issue though, theres no map reload to loar yhe other map Ah wait, would the cutscene ypu get with the kinf be the reload? Or theres actually no reload and the game checks if you have the paraglider item
Being a game programmer, I don't think it's a big "trigger" cylinder surrounding the great plateau. But just code that checks flags, when link is an x amount away from the plateau. Great video Linus and picturing it as a big invisable cylinder isn't that bad.
You are actually 100% correct on that front! The game checks what Link's coordinates are, and if they exceed a specific value, it voids you out. These values are set to basically create a huge box around the Great Plateau, I went with the example of using an invisable cylinder because it makes it a lot easier to demonstrate and visualize, which was the over all idea with this video. To simplify the info but still keep all the info as accurate as possible. Glad you enjoyed the video, tons of more awesome content is to come! And fyi, yes my real name is Linus! Linus + Link = Linkus
And we finally, finally, have a way to skip the Great Plateau! All you need to do is perform an incredibly specific sequence of memory glitches, beat the game deathless, and then load in a new game and boom you'll have the paraglider! You'll still wanna get Stasis and Bombs of course but hey, now you can skip the rest
That's banned in any% though, as all main leaderboard categories requires that any glitch that persists between save files (like this glitch you are talking about) are removed before starting a run
I spent the whole video marveling at how much the narrator sounded like Linkus before it was finally spelled out in the outro. Now that my dumb ass is caught up, I'm really excited that Linkus has a channel devoted to short-form documentary stuff like this.
Really cool video! The only way I can think to improve it would be if you showed a clip of Link voiding out miles from the great plateau, to convey just how big the pre-paraglider void is. For anyone unaware, people have discovered how to wrong warp. You can load a brand new save file, and start inside a random shrine far from the plateau. After grabbing the spirit orb and leaving, Link takes a few steps then immediately collapses to the ground with a "Euuaaaaaaa!". It's pretty funny to watch. After a lengthy load screen, back to the plateau. Nintendo really didn't want us to skip it.

If I recall, raising the towers actually no longer needed in the any% category for breath of the Wild
This channel is such a great idea! I've just gotten into watching speedruning content. The first two videos are very well done, I'm excited for more!
I've never seen a group so dedicated to spend the least amount of time playing and gave as speedrunners, but at the same time I've never seen a group so dedicated to playing games as speedrunners.
Nice to know more information about BOTW speedruns than just "GO 2 Ganon right away"
With the content coming out of the channel it makes me excited to be able to say I was hear from the beginning
I’d like to thank mr smallant himself for that
Just pull out the bow 200 times to unload the void barrier. Piece of cake
10:17 Better known as the "WHAT IN THE NAME OF HYLIA?!" trick because of reasons every BOTW speedrunner fan should know at this point.
already one of my fav channels
I’ve replayed the bit at 0:30 where Mido starts glitchily chasing after Link like an angry goose around sixteen times now
This makes me wonder if we can apply any previous zelda game glitches in botw such as the glitch where it overwrites the progress flag of one area to another.
That one terminal montage video now makes much more sense!
Such a great game. I have no interest in speed running or figuring out ways to break the game myself, but it is so interesting when presented this way with explanation and footage. It's awesome that the invisible circle around the great plateau is still unbeaten. How cool will it be when it is though? So cool.
This explained all the glitches so well I'm confident that I can do them now
Really well explained! I've never played the game, but was able to understand and enjoy everything in this video. Well done!
after restarting BOTW i noticed that the cutscene for the old man getting on the roof is active after you get a extra heart/stamina vessle. find a way to glitch the goddess statue to give link a heart/stamina vessel early, and you may be able to skip the first 4 shrines
Riding that tree like a rocket might be one of the coolest things I've seen in this game that just seems so obvious now. I must try that later.
You can also preform back in time in skyward sword, windwaker and of course as you mentioned, twilight princess.
I’m gonna watch literally every video from this channel
Linkus saying the BIL is pretty complicated gives me a sense of satisfaction; I spent over 3 hours learning how to boomy zoomy
I don't remember whos video it was, but the best advice I got from youtube video regarding bil is that it works best when facing one of the cardinal firections
@@MysteryMouseketool yeah, its only ever worked for me facing a cardinal direction. the square bomb always spawns with it corners oriented the same way, and that affects the success of the launch
I still have save files from when the launch glitch was first discovered
Love wandering around down there for some reason.
reminds me on that one cartoon speedrun thingy^^
Stasis shield jumping and boomie zoomies are integral parts of the game mechanics. At the very least i cant even remember playing without them.
really impressed with this channel ! engrossing and niche videos on speed run culture :) keep it up guys
I still found the video entertaining even though I already knew all the glitches.
