Yes .. house paints always give me better pours .. they always end up looking better than acrylic tube paints .. they also almost dry exactly like how they looked when they are wet

First 3 months of trying and watching lots of UA-cam videos I just couldn't figure it out. I refused to stop! I was GOING TO FIGURE THIS ART CHEMISTRY NO MATTER WHAT! It almost seemed like there was secret behind it all. A lot of artist where using silicone, different oils things like that. And of course I got cells when oils are mixed into water bases. Then my friend turned me onto triple thick and said mixing Amsterdam white and black with floetrol would activate my art. She was right. Im extremely critical of my work eventhou I've been told otherwise. I don't think I'm good enough to start my own channel on youtube. Eventhou, it's my dream eventually and I'm working towards that. Out of all the artist I've seen and countless videos I've watched over and over. I've never seen someone actually teach as good as you. Nobody has been easier to learn from. 😍Bravo Gaser !, you have shown that you are a man of resources, this house paint that you use is the same that they sell in paint stores and they make you the color you choose?, Because that paint is untinted, the same as we use for mixing paints for the bloom. There is an artist who also has a UA-cam channel who always uses house paint and dyes them with water-based dyes, it's interesting, maybe you can take a look at it and get some ideas. This man is called Djamel Belghomari.😊
Actually most paint thats colored starts as untinted - and it gets colored at the paint store/hardware store if they have that paint tumbler. paints that are this vibrant in color are Base C - which is what I buy untinted. The difference is their colorant costs nothing, and tube paints cost a lotttttt
@@sandraroney3059 they’re typically used as the “pillow” layer in the bloom technique - its differentiated from a generic base because bases are made with acrylic paint. You CAN use colored house paint as you would acrylics in the thicker techniques, but they generally dont handle being thinned out too well
@sandraroney3059 blooms are a tricky technique and i generally recommend you approach them after you’ve gotten comfortable understanding consistency because its one thing when you want just one consistency through out the painting, its a whole other thing when you have to be precise with three consistencies😄

Right so with house paint I would first test how the house paint dries in a puddle and see of it even needs pouring medium to begin with. Some might be thin enough to be pourable and can hold themselves together without cracking if left in a puddle. If not, thats when you add pouring medium. If you’re in the US, theres a couple of brands that are used straight out of the can as a pillow like SW color to go. A basic homemade medium can be pva glue and water. About 70:30 or 60:40
I bought some Sherwinn Williams indoor outdoor high gloss paint on sale. I usually use Valspar. Anyways I put it down and thousands of bubbles. I could not get them out with the torch and skewer for the life of me. I went ahead and did a pour anyways and of course it was a awesome painting but with lots of tiny house paint cells everywhere. Any suggestions to make this work? I’m stuck with 2 gallons. Grrr….
Are you mixing it with anything? If so it might need to rest overnight. Its harder to get bubbles out of house paint because its so thick, so its always best to avoid causing bubbles in the first place
@@GeePours I don't mix it with anything. I let it rest and still millions of bubbles. The bubbles were in it when I bought it. I bought 2 gal that were on sale so I can't take them back. I've never had this happen in house paint. Not thos many bubbles. I've never used indoor outdoor high gloss before either. I usually use indoor satin so I don't know if the bubbles are from what I'm using currently. I'm gonna stick to Valspar. I do have a question. When you layer your transparent on the bottom of the opaque s. Does it matter?

Hi! I appreciate your description. i'm confused about cell activator vs. pouring medium. Are they one and the same? You mentioned a kind of primer that is usually used before painting wood as your cell activator. Not sure what that is and if it's necessary. I just bought a pouring medium for the first time and it is very liquidy. Even doing 1:1 ratio it seems too thin for me. And zero cells. I am using acrylic housepaint. I had some mixed glossy and some matte. I'm unclear as to whether the glossy will work, so today experimented with the matte. No cells. Not sure why not. Any tips or clarifications?
Hey Robin. You've grouped and confused several things together so lets start from scratch. A pouring medium is a water based material used to thin acrylic paints into a fluid state. A cell activator is a recipe that includes a pouring medium in it. A cell activator is also separate from a cell additive - which is a single ingredient like silicone oil. The material I use on wood before painting it is called Gesso, it's like a primer for painting. You paint over this after it dries. In this technique called the Bloom, there's three layers. The pillow is made of house paint and a medium to thin it if needed. The colors are a mix of acrylic paint and the pouring medium. The cell activator is what's different from the rest, generally this will use a paint conditioner like Australian Floetrol. I didn't have any in this video so I used the only local one we have. I've only ever done the flip cup pouring method - with glue, with a spritz of lubricant oil which I'm not sure has silicone oil but it's all I can find where I live - and inconsistent results. Now, today I'm being introduced to this new bloom technique. I'm not so attracted to the technique but am interested in achieving producing cells on purpose in the flip cup technique. I will see if applying the info you've shared about thicker on bottom and the paint with the "activator" on top and thinner, and see if that helps. I'm so glad to have found you today! Robin~1 tip thats helped me keep each techniques "recipes" straight is to write them out on recipe cards or notes section in my phone! Most Artist's on UA-cam also include what they used for each painting in the "description" or more info. section beneath video title & you can just take a pic of that or screenshot from phone.. The # of paint pouring related pics stored on my cell is obnoxious but oh well lol🤷🏻♀️
You’re actually going to confuse yourself like this - the bloom’s technique and materials are only used in the bloom. Its a very thick recipe that doesn’t really play well in any other technique besides the swipe. The flip cup is a lot easier to master and getting cells will not be an issue but let me give you some pointers. Lubricant oil is usually silicone, but if you cant verify that it is 100% silicone , its best to not use that. Silicone oil is not flammable, whereas things like wd40 are. 1-2 drops total in the cup being flipped (stirred separately into the colors you choose) Glue is a high surface tension material - when you use it as a pouring medium, the cells dont automatically jump to the surface like they do with floetrol. You need to apply some heat with a small kitchen torch. Try this and let me know how it goes!

Did you really mean to say to NOT use 100% silicone oil? I did not realize that with glue you need to torch for cells in contrast to floetrol. I want to clarify something about my question regarding the use of acrylic matte vs. acrylic glossy house paint: I have bought many litres of tinted housepaints, some matte, some glossy (all acrylic). My question is a general one, for ANY pouring technique. Is it okay to use the glossy tinted house paint for ANY of the pouring techiques? Does the varnish in them change the pouring recipes, or ruin them? In other words: Can I use them with the same results and success as with the matte tinted house paints? I am trying to get all this information straight so I can begin again and have better results with ANY method (starting with the flip cup, because it's what I've been doing.)

I wouldve tried it but none of Flood Floetrol products come here - they’ll let me bring things like floetrol with ppl’s luggage, but no way they let u do that with flammable oil based materials like penetrol

Hahaha thats my old and terrible plastic spinner (you cant tell because it has about a year’s worth of residual paint on it😂) do yourself a favor and skip the plastic ones and go straight for the aluminum ones
No not quite - its best to not use silicone oil as a reference with blooms with blooms, the emulsion paint is the pillow layer (and if the paint is fluid enough it doesnt need thinning, this is true in the US, but not other places) The water based enamel is actually mixed with a water based polyurethane to make the pouring medium for the colors layer. Generally 1 enamel to 3 of polyurethane. You add your colors to this mix 😊
I am new to pouring. We are wanting to make our own art for the room but using a mix of acrylic colours and our emulsion that we’ve used int he room. Is this possible? Does it crack? Thank you x
TIP: I like to put painter's tape on the back of albums I paint. Removable. Use the hole to hang pieces. Could hot glue hangers on back. Researching. May ask hardware store...
I don't understand what is your PM? Flotrol with what? It's hard for me to understand the accent. 😅 I always fail with the pilow no matter how many times I tried.
Any pouring medium can be used with your pillow. floetrol if you have that, varnish is also an option, so is water (although no more than 10% of the weight)
I've been watching your videos and your work is BEAUTIFUL but you tend to contradict yourself alot ,you put ca white as base coat then the same ca white on top of colors and water alot down . I think alot people know oil and water will create cells and enamel paint is a form of oil
Thank you, but Im not sure why you’re convinced my base is a CA. It isn’t. In fact i dont even have enamel paint here. My bases are always latex emulsion.

Yeah you have to put it down before and let it set before painting it

Is it okay to use the glossy tinted house paint for ANY of the pouring techiques? Does the varnish in them change the pouring recipes, or ruin them? In other words: Can I use them with the same results and success as with the matte tinted house paints? I hope my question is answerable!

what country are you in? Where did you buy those paints? Seem they are some sort of acrylic.
Hey Penny! Im based in Cairo, Egypt. All latex emulsion paint has some percentage of acrylic content in it, and then they add a polymer for durability

I wouldve tried it but none of Flood Floetrol products come here - they’ll let me bring things like floetrol with ppl’s luggage, but no way they let u do that with flammable oil based materials like penetrol

Hahaha thats my old and terrible plastic spinner (you cant tell because it has about a year’s worth of residual paint on it😂) do yourself a favor and skip the plastic ones and go straight for the aluminum ones
Do I use water based enamel paint the same as emulsion paint in terms of proportions to a pouring medium and silicone?
No not quite - its best to not use silicone oil as a reference with blooms
with blooms, the emulsion paint is the pillow layer (and if the paint is fluid enough it doesnt need thinning, this is true in the US, but not other places)
The water based enamel is actually mixed with a water based polyurethane to make the pouring medium for the colors layer. Generally 1 enamel to 3 of polyurethane. You add your colors to this mix 😊
I am new to pouring. We are wanting to make our own art for the room but using a mix of acrylic colours and our emulsion that we’ve used int he room. Is this possible? Does it crack? Thank you x
TIP: I like to put painter's tape on the back of albums I paint. Removable. Use the hole to hang pieces. Could hot glue hangers on back. Researching. May ask hardware store...

I always fail with the pilow no matter how many times I tried.
Any pouring medium can be used with your pillow. floetrol if you have that, varnish is also an option, so is water (although no more than 10% of the weight)

I've been watching your videos and your work is BEAUTIFUL but you tend to contradict yourself alot ,you put ca white as base coat then the same ca white on top of colors and water alot down . I think alot people know oil and water will create cells and enamel paint is a form of oil
Thank you, but Im not sure why you’re convinced my base is a CA. It isn’t. In fact i dont even have enamel paint here. My bases are always latex emulsion.
