Would there be a way to add a clear plate to an internal combustion engine to see what happens inside the cylinder and the pistons? I’m sure there would be some carbon buildup making it a tough bug to work out, but that would be a cool test. They make gaskets out of fiberglass for boiler sections just the same as an engine. I’m sure there’s a way it can be done.
In cold weather STP will separate from the oil and sludge engine, lucas won't it will stay mixed all the time. I have used stp in the summer but not in winter months. I'm 75 years old and started using stp back in the sixtys. used it in every motor we had but found out not to use it in the winter. In the summer it is great stuff. Have used both and now I use lucas all year around.
Good advice! I guess I'll use Lucas in December before xmas, this is what I call my winter oil change because I aint getting under the car in January or febrero. lol
I think Lucas is more "sticky" and works better but I don't know how to feel about using this in a modern vehicle. The stp being a little thinner yet nearly as good is my personal choice for new vehicles with tighter tolerances. The Lucas is the go to for the old c10 and anything that just runs 30 weight and the stp for more modern vehicles just to play it safe.
Wow that engine has did its work for sure. People and myself in the NIA community really appreciate you taking time to share and the kindness definitely makes my day.
It's a good engine, I drove a 94 Silverado pick up with low oil pressure and it spun a rod about 25 miles from home but I was still able to drive it all the way home. That would happen to any engine with a failed oil pump but the 4.3 held together for those 25 miles in summer weather
Cool video Nate !! For what's it's worth I always put a bottle of STP synthetic oil treatment in all my cars , for $5 bucks I know it helps to some degree and give me a little piece of mind . One product I never ever put is engine flush. Modern day oils contain detergent ingredients Plus engine flush can actually harm the engine by over cleaning maybe that's a test you might want to do how well do detergent oils really work Joe ...
You made many great points so I took a screen shot. Stp is a good product and I often do the same. Engine flush if used must be to manufacturer's instructions but You are correct we need to see how this can affect our engine. If you have ideas let me know. I have some right off hand.
no one else noticed the original display only had the oil covering the bottom of the FIRST wheel of the display? And Nate, when you put in your oil, you completely covered the bottom wheel and partially covered the 2nd wheel up. I wouldn't exactly call this apples to apples comparison. Fun to watch, though, sure. Thank you!
STP doesn't have all the bubbles and air in it we've been using regular stp blue bottle for 60 years especially in a diesel it's more filmy and sticky and allows better oil flow
I'm not saying sticky oil is bad but let's face it guys an oil that's sticky like that has no use whatsoever in the Northeast when it gets really really cold. The place is sticky oil is in Texas Arizona Mexico where it gets really really hot that way the sticky slimy oil can compensate and it won't turn into water
You are witty enough to make a steel gear test display! Time a month to see if any lube can cling over time. I use a dab0lucas on old parked rigs. It stays on the dip stick for a very long time. Mowers too!
Lucas is more for gear boxes and differentials. It causes the oil to get air entrainment and become foamy in an engine. Look at how much money they made by selling bottles of that stuff from those displays. Seen those things in just about every parts store throughout the '90's and beyond. You can see the air just spinning the gears by hand.
Great job definitely preciseness required too. Looks like Lucas clings in the spokes wheels a little more than the stp. Thanks for this test Nate and definitely some work getting those plastic pieces out of there. I remember seeing that display in the shelf at an autozone but ide imagine it was a while ago. Seeing is believing lol definitely right on this one.
Seeing is believing got me to give it a try long ago. Ugh those plastic pieces was tough to get out for sure. Your continued support is really incredible, so great to see good people. Very uplifting.
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO If you turn the handle carefully, you will notice more resistance with the Lucas additive. You may or may not get better startup protection but with more resistance I believe you are guaranteed more pumping loses and therefore. you will lose some gas mileage.
I’d think stp would have more resistance Vs Lucas as it not clinging to parts as good stp staying with oil more not as clingy flowing around the internals
Gotta do Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer vs hyperlube oil supplement 2 similar additives that claim reduced start up wear by leaving a film on parts during sitting that stp doesn’t claim.
Can you do a tournament comparing all the engine oil stabilizers? Maybe include some of the newest ones on the market. I was torn between my go to Lucas Pure Synthetic and newcomer Seafoam Ultimate Oil Stabilizer. I would love to know which is king. Hope you get to see this, and wondering if this is in the works. I clicked this because I thought it was Lucas vs STP and Seafoam. Love the videos
The problem here is lucas is non synthetic and stp was full synthetic. I would like to see a full synthetic lucas oil additive comparison as they have those now. Btw that lucas is great for high mileage vehicles. Had a 91 accord with 270k miles and then i forgot it burned oil and the engine of course died.
I would be curious to see if a really thick oil would be comparable to Lucas. Like if you put 75w-90 gear oil in that display or something. Because with Lucas being so thick I wonder if it just makes the oil thicker thus providing a better film strength which results in what you see in that display
I wonder about things like Lucas, if your "Oil pressure" rises, is it because the thicker substance can't flow through the oil holes so much and causes a back up oil pressure.. or has your actual oil volume pumped increased? Thanks Nathan
Thank you for the kindness and great question. It means so much, words cant say as it brought me back from a bad time. When you raise oil pressure this does decrease flow rate. So is it good or bad well as long as it's not extreme it could be beneficial if your pressure started to get to low causing the oil to not reach some areas. But overall the temperature of the oil would rise some. Again it could even be beneficial based on the environment example extremely hot temps.
To be truly scientific, you need to have the gears, etc. to be up to engine operating temperature as well, and then let everything cool down to ambient temp and THEN see how much of the additives stick to the then cooled down gears, bearings, and bearing journals, and also camshaft and rocker arm locations.
Hey Nate haven't seen a video on Supertech advanced full synthetic cold flow. Was curious if you could look into doing one maybe compare it to Mobil 1 advanced full synthetic
What is Lucas oil stabilizer equivalent too? In my search it comes up a bit higher then 250 SAE gear oil? Anybody knows what its equivalent too? 250,270, 300 ??
You said so yourself. Not scientific with using the exact same funnel for cross contamination. Probably did not properly clean out the test display well either
LOL I cleaned the funnel with towels, cleaner, then run the same brand oil to be used through it. During use of display fresh oil through funnel, I have a case of that oil for this type of use. The test display I used a massive amount oil cleaming it out. On top of that the additives make up a small percentage of the oil. The test display on the Lucas side never contained anything but Lucas. The plain oil side only contained the same oil used with the Lucas mix. When using oil to clean the display it was mostly to get out any plastic. Because the oil and oil additive mix were easy to get out. If you like stp then you can say so because it is a good additive and definitely has benefits Lucas may not have so it goes both ways, both with different advantages.
I appreciate your time and comment because I would rather explain my thoughts and as you said its not scientific but interesting. I hope you have a great day, kindness is important.
Awesome freaking video....I always wandering about that lucas display case.... thumbs up!!!
That's great im so happy you enjoyed it, I thought it was interesting to.

I’m sure there’s a way it can be done.
Remember stp has zinc in it .so it does better in higher temperatures
Years ago I used 2 bottles of STP with 4 quarts of conventional 50 weight to keep an old truck running.
Cost less and worked as well as Lucas.
Congratulations! You saved money!
Yea Nate I’d have to say the lucus appeared to do a little better. But I am a fan of STP.
Another great video.
What did you guys & gals think about the display? Maybe its just me but in the beginning it seemed to really help Lucas to show their product.
It was the first time I ever saw a display like that and I started trying their additives
In cold weather STP will separate from the oil and sludge engine, lucas won't it will stay mixed all the time. I have used stp in the summer but not in winter months. Both excellent additives. Have over 300k on Chevy 4.3 vortec in vans run perfect good oil pressure no burning or ticking knocking etc.

We still have our Lucas display like this at our AutoZone... Quite a few people mess with it... They are cool to watch...
No doubt that's awesome man I appreciate you sharing.

How did u get the pieces out Spinning it running water though it hundred times draining it

Please conduct a test on moglide or go
GO NMF !!!!! I use the product and I absolutely love it my car runs really really smooth
Its hard to say if these display testers translate to a car's engine, but I'd like to see a cold flow test with these additives
Obviously the oil+lucas mixture looks thicker because it requires 20% from total amount, compared to stp with only 10%.
I have used them all Lucas is all I will be using it is the best in diesel engines and my cars
Do you use them in more modern diesel engine? My car is not that recent(it's 2008), but was wondering if that formula is still good for these engines.
Hey Nate I just purchased this but it’s in a blue bottle not gold!?
Stp
Can you do a test on how Lucas & reg. Oil flows Through an oil filter??
Gotta do Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer vs hyperlube oil supplement 2 similar additives that claim reduced start up wear by leaving a film on parts during sitting that stp doesn’t claim.
Finally which is better oil additive? I think its the same . Please answer me . Thanks a lot

STP world's greatest been around forever
The problem here is lucas is non synthetic and stp was full synthetic. I would like to see a full synthetic lucas oil additive comparison as they have those now. Btw that lucas is great for high mileage vehicles. Had a 91 accord with 270k miles and then i forgot it burned oil and the engine of course died.
I'd also like to see this redone with lucas full synthetic vs stp full synthetic along with a wear test through the lubrisity tester.
I would be curious to see if a really thick oil would be comparable to Lucas. Like if you put 75w-90 gear oil in that display or something. Because with Lucas being so thick I wonder if it just makes the oil thicker thus providing a better film strength which results in what you see in that display
You know I have thought about this before to and thanks because that is all the more reason to find out.
That's all it is. It has nothing to do with how well it will make your engine last.

Melt a hole to stop debris in test!

My new Toyota specifies 0W-20 motor oil. I won't be adding any "thickeners" to it, just like I would not add a quart of 50 W oil to the mix.
3:43 is the video 📹
Thanks for helping its good people are so nice.
That test wasn't fair because it already had Lucas on the other side on the right side you have to start over with them both clean
Test Lucas Oil Low Viscosity Stabilizer
It may be me but to see someone for an oil container backwards even when it has a pictogram showing you how to pour it correctly drives me nuts.
remember that lucas oil demo TOY does not even come close to how an auto engine works
I can't find a Lucas vs Hyperlube...Seems Lucas won.
We can take care of that for sure.
Wut about s.t.p oil and s.t.p oil stabilizer together??
Interesting idea I hadn't thought of that. Please keep the suggestions coming.
My friend, could you test the additive named Superkote 2000?
Greetings from Costa Rica
Absolutely that is a good idea. I appreciate you taking time to watch and comment. The kindness is so important to me.

He going to lube us all up
Try bg additive
Absolutely so do they have more than 1 particular additive?
They have the moa and rf7
@@edwardogarcia5800 whats the best?

Drilling the plastic contaminated the inside with plastic bits 🤪
If i ever do buy any of these ill just buy the cheapest
