- When Daphne Keen (Jecki) said they were aiming to top "The Duel of the Fates," I'll admit I was skeptical. Hearing the actors trained for four months certainly shows in this incredible fight scene that spans nearly the entire episode.. but does it live up to that high bar? Great podcast but here is my question about the show in general regarding canon, if there can only be 2 sith, the master and the apprentice would that mean in the prequels/clone wars, since palpatine is the master and dooku is the apprentice, does that mean Ventress is “The Acolyte”? Obviously palpatine didn’t want to be killed and that’s why he had dooku get ride of ventress so that they wouldn’t move up the latter of the sith chain of command. Similarly in episode 6, vader wants luke to join him, so again palpatine is the master, vader is the apprentice, then Luke would be “The Acolyte”. Therefore palpatine as the master always has this fear of being replaced.

Manny heel turn was the best part them playing him as such a slithering patsy tild us this was going to be the case but his lights witch turn of mannerism is creepy and delightful in the same breath.

I am loving that we're back to the old, cool as a cucumber Dark sider. Dark side users were portrayed pretty poorly in 7, 8 & 9 with Kylo and his inability to keep his crap together. smashing things, throwing tantrums, I get that they were trying to show how "conflicted" he was, but it also reduced the fear he could provoke as an antagonist.
With "The Stranger" being always in command of himself, it gives you the feeling he's in command of the entire situation.... which is far more terrifying then unbridled toddler rage.
Really wish the show hadn't been such a dumpster before this, it brings what would be a fantastic episode down to merely good, as we wait to see where it goes and hope it makes up for the Rob Cantor: "Shia LaBeouf" style musical number in EP3.
I also appreciate how they showed his calm command. No horrible comment from the protagonists, but his speech, his willingness and ability to inject personality into the scenes which were relatively physically focused. Manny showed a lot of depth between playing Qimir, and The Stranger before and after unmasking. Essentially three distinct personalities in a single character. Well done.

Loved the fight in this episode. Makes me want an R-rated type horror Star Wars film now! The saber duel was fricken nuts and spooky at the same time. I still really think Qimir’s master is going to end up being the bald green Jedi, but I guess we’ll see.

There's a space chase on the trailers, and given that both parties are leaving the planet and that the Stranger still has to kill Sol, I would guess that a space chase is what we will get in episode 6.

I think Qimir was On Brendock when the Jedi went to go and get the twins, and he knows that Sol can use the dark side
I agree I think Kenobi had way too much light/color from the sabers I mean, Obi Wan’s blue saber blinded me many times during that show 😂 I do like the color though in the Disney era. Feels more real to me but I can see where they go a little over the top with it at times.
The overuse of fades while explaining how to properly use fades was amazing this episode.

Smylo Ren is a badass. To your point on Sol, I think Master Sol altered Oshas memories of that night because she was so traumatised. In a panic he wanted to take away her pain so she could become a Jedi, thus fulfilling his promise to her…from a certain point of view.
I'm down with not seeing how the Sith came to rise with Palp, only because that still feels very Skywalker-centric to me. Like I know this still kind of does via Ren --> Knights --> Kylo, but the KoR in general is unexplored (film) territory, which for me makes the universe feel larger
People think episodes 4 and 5 should have just been one episode. I disagree. If the strategy is to keep people subbed to Disney+, instead of dropping short episodes weekly, they should do 2 part movies in 2 separate months. Episodes 1-4 would have been a great setup with a huge cliffhanger. It may not have reduced the discourse over the 2+hours, but we would have been building up hype for the conclusion and this was a good start of the second "part"

Duel of the fates just had more powerful force users involved. Maul was almost lab-created as a weapon, Qui-Gon was a Jedi master and a student of Count Dooku. And we know what Obi-Wan becomes. Any of those 3 probably wins this battle with this week.
It’s the difference between keeping a bunch of Jedi quiet and keeping the ultimate master plan on track.

I doubt that’ll be the case. Like that requires some really clever writing to effectively pull off, and the writing for this show hasn’t been clever in any shape, form, or fashion

How many confirmed, on-screen, live-action canon kills does Anakin/Vader have? Mace and Obi-Wan of course. But I don't remember actually *seeing* him slaughter a bunch of Jedi onscreen(granted it has been 20 years, so...) Most of his kills are from Legends. Qimir may technically hold the official record. Someone who remembers better can confirm or refute.
Point: the Ren kylo killed also isn't the first Ren it's been passed down for generations

I think Qimir was Darth Tenebrous's Aprentice before this point failed to kill him and was replaced by Plagueis after the events of The Acolyte. Allowing him to escape the rule of two and become the progenitor of the Knights of Ren. The name Ren was taken by the Ren that kilo met he was not the originator of that name ( think Dread Pirate Roberts)so what if the original Ren was actually Qimir who changed his name after he got what he wanted.. his freedom and created his own Enclave for force users the Knights of Ren... it may be a stretch but I think it's a better story then him just being Plagueis like I keep hearing people say... which is impossible by the way cause he us a muun...
! this is the first “Ren” theory I’ve heard that I like. I like the idea that he is Sith now but is either cast aside or abandons the Sith himself to become the Ren. Especially when you connect it to his aspirations for freedom. Great idea!
WeÄve been told that Quimir is a Sith lord, we know there will be two Sith in this season, and we know that the current story will be resolved by episode 8, because the showrunner has told us so. We will meet Quimir's master, but will we learn their Darth names? I hope so.
Just because the actor said he’s a sith, doesn’t mean the character’s actually a sith. I’d rather wait until the show firmly says that, and so far they haven’t. It’s like Dafne Keen saying Jeckie was crushing on Osha and that was nowhere to be seen on screen

or maybe he wanted to show Osha who Sol really is and the "morality" of the Jedi's. When he asked "this is your master? " it sounded like he was mocking him like he was saying "I knew it. I knew you guys are hypocrites" kinda way.
I do think it is a bit awkward having one actress playing two main characters, they can't really interact. I think it would be a massive service to Amanda as an actress to kill off either Mae or Osha. Then they could truly develop the survivor's story.

Episode 5 takeaways: Mae can't make her mind about what she wants, great fight sequence, Qimir is a cosplayer who thinks because he's mean and has a red lightsaber he is a Sith, Sol is the dumbest Jedi in history, even if you don't look at a tattoo on Mae's head you established that you can read people's mind and you still can't see that this is not Osha

People just have a habit of starting a sentence with I mean for no reason whatsoever. I've been home healing from back surgery so I've soaked in tons of content all across the board. I'm a big geek and I love your content as I said and no disrespect towards you guys! Even if you scroll through some comments even on Instagram and I bet you will see people say I mean in the beginning of a sentence for no reason.
This "man with open mouth" type of thumbnail is pretty incongruous with how measured you guys actually are when discussing things in the video.

This show just isn’t as sophisticated as you want it to be. You are imparting meaning that just isn’t well conveyed in the actual show or intended by the creator. The dialogue just doesn’t do the job. Had you not watched the prequels or had the lore, this show would not have any of the meaning you are describing. It takes a lot for granted that just isn’t.
I don’t disagree. Weve been highly critical of this show. I’m not sure we’ve described it as “sophisticated.” There are fun bits to pick apart and some lore that’s been fun to tear into.
I’m not sure it’s fair to say that without the prequels then this wouldn’t have meaning. That’s sort of the point. It’s part of the universe. Not everything is meant to stand on its own. It’s made better by being apart of the universe. I would say the same about Ahsoka. Things /can/ stand on their own, but that’s not a prerequisite for good writing - though I’m not saying this show has been awesome so far. That remains to be seen
When were the Jedi good? The High Republic and Old Republic were supposed to be eras of Jedi ascension. The Jedi are absolute amateurs and pushovers in this series.
Disney’s continued deconstruction of the Jedi is disappointing. They had the chance to show the Jedi at their best. They did the opposite. The Jedi are not formidable or interesting anymore. Next they will deconstruct KOTOR.
