- Star Wars The Acolyte Review of Finale episode 8 season 1 of Leslye Headlands Disney+ $180 million show. The final episode of The Acolyte series 1 sees Sol fight The stranger Manny Jaccinto and Mae and Osha show their true colours. But as Disney is a family brand, does this show send the right message? Did Leslye Headland achieve her complex moral view of the Jedi and Sith while maintaining Star Wars continuity in lore? Has Amandla Stenberg achieved her place in Star Wars legend? Is The Acolyte worth watching?

Star Wars The Acolyte Finale episode 8 Series 1 the conclusion of the series that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. This series has been an stunning collection of bad interviews, marketing choices and even a diss track. Many of which put the shows already awful story, in an even worse light. But the finale was meant to wrap up the whole thing, it didn't. Instead it largely set up season 2, while contradicting everything we already knew about the series. It wasn't meant to, I just don't think the writers are morally capable of understanding what they wrote. It seems that you're meant to be rooting for Osha and Mae, that you feel sorry for them and see the Jedi as evil. Yet it failed, Sol didn't nothing wrong, the whining sisters are evil, and you're left with a series with no satisfying ending, as no villain got what they deserved. That's only true if you think Sol was the villain. But what do you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Just wanted to say Shields are a common thing on ships in Star Wars that are strong enough to maintain an effective layer of atmosphere, it's how they can open the hangars on ships like theimperial destroyers in New Hope without need for air locks and maintain standard operations. Even a ship Sol's size should have a fairly potent deflector shield set up considering it's a freighter or Cruiser class by the looks of it.
at 26:08 she leg sweeps a person whose legs are in the air...... This fight is embarrassing to watch I really hope I don't have to explain why.
You missed that the elevator works…when it’s powered by the generator that exploded 16 years ago and blew up the base.

Like he wasn't just breathing heavily for dramatic effect, his LUNGS were burnt to cinders so he needs a respirator to SURVIVE. Putting on a helmet doesn't immediately result in mouth breathing.
gotta shoe-horn the 'nostalgia feels' in somehow. It's like when that bloke said 'oh year may the force be with you' normally it's hey they said the thing they said the thing that rocks... this time it was like everything else : Flat and Stale.

It's member-berries for sure... but the helmet in this show is very very very obviously a respirator. The "teeth" are so painfully clearly oxygen tubes feeding air into the mouth. It looks stupid as fuck, but the sound is a functional purpose of the helmet.
Find real criticisms instead if fabricating shit to be mad at. There's plenty of real things to hate.

Why would he *need* some kind of mechanical ventilation if he has normal, healthy lungs? The point is Darth Vader needs mechanical ventilation because he was toasted up. Qimir just has it because Vader does.

They say to write what you know and Leslie seems to have REALLY taken that advice to heart with this show.

Smilo: Murders all of Osha's close friends in cold blood, including her girlfriend, right in front of her, and tried to kill her and her sister too
Osha: Chokes Sol to death because he's a monster and falls in love with Smilo

Blame every death on Sol, even though the first episode showed he not only wasn't on the same planet when the Jedi master was killed, there was a witness who pointed out who killer her. AND the second episode that showed him being around other people when the second Jedi master was found dead...Disney Logic at it's core

The good ending. Master Yoda would then go on to immediately uncover the Sith threat and destroy it, thus preventing all the horrors of the Jedi Purge and the rise of The Empire.

Man sol is the most tragic character ever. Killed a bunch of darkside witches in selfdefense, watched as all his friends killed, his padawan kills him, and is framed for all of it. If there's any justice in this world someone will try to clear sols name, hunts down osha and quimir, and exposes jedi master nempo.

Because a Commando squad is backed by the government and what Headland tried to pass off as justice, needs a response bigger than internal Jedi matters. And since we're way off canon at this point KK and co couldn't clap back about a group out to save Canon.

I do not understand why Nepo bothered with a coverup, the politician specifically mentioned a Jedi going off the rails in his list of suspicions against the order. It’s like she wants to draw more scrutiny and extra oversight rather than pursuing transparency.

Remember, he climbed a huge wall to get past a locked door, and enter the Witches home. The witches are the ones with the right to self defense, regardless of his actions once inside.
This episode shows how the people behind this are actually evil, they are unable to comprehend what is good morality.

Osha and Mae went through the entire story having zero positive impact on anyone's lives while only causing misery and disappointment to everyone they come in contact with. Everyone, including us, would have been better off if they had never been created.
Basil the Beaver: Sells out Mae to Sol so that he can stun and capture her.
Basil, 2 hours later: Sabotages Sol's technology so that Mae can escape.

Was Basil in the room when Sol explained how the Jedi attempted to save children, deleted mind controlling witches and stabbed a smoke demon mid disintegrating a kid? Thats the only excuse the writers could use, since they think the 2nd flashback revealed the Jedi to be Eeeeevil apparently.

The lightsaber turns from Blue to Red when she turns to the dark side , but Anakin's remained Blue when he turned to the dark side and was killing all the younglings. Make it make sense.
I know almost nothing about star wars lore, but the only thing I can think of is crystal bleeding I think it's called? But even then it seems way too much like a cop out and...well, as the guy above me mentions, she would need who knows how much power
Disney created the idea of sabers changing color that way. Lucas' vision and the EU before Disney's garbage had sabers based on the color of the crystal. There was no emotional connection that changed their color, you'd have to physically change the focusing crystal in the hilt.

What a fascinating story.
Main character does nothing of her own volition for the entirety of it, until the end, where she decides that, based on emotion, she wants to kill the one person who did nothing wrong because she heard half the story.
This guy was sent to investigate a weird planet, found a coven of evil witches, and upon approaching those witches peacefully, they attack and traumatize one of his companions. He forgives this. Then he finds out they are abusing and indoctrinating children. He tries to find an excuse to save those children, instead he finds out they ripped some poor soul in half and put her in two bodies. His traumatized ally then acts irrationally and he goes to stop him, only to discover that one of the children he wanted to save was going to be killed by the other one. He finds the murderous child about to be "TRANSFORMED INTO THE FORCE" by someone else, which is literally an allegory for dying in this universe, and kills the entity that is, to the best of his understanding, attempting to murder a child. The murderous child and the child to be saved are later in a dangerous situation and he tries to save both, but is too weak, so he saves the one that is not actively a murderer and arsonist.
His superior convinces him not to report the information. His superior gets killed and he feels responsible for the suspect who did it. He goes to find her, implicitly trusts her and looks out for her best interests, and gets betrayed for it and murdered.
Only a twisted, insane person could think this is a good or sensible story.
“I’ll stop you from being a Jedi, but I won’t stop you from being a Sith.” Make it make sense lol.
The Female AI voice saying "throbbing" apathetically gets me every time. 100% gold comedy

So OSHA is explicitly evil. You have to be purposefully evil in order to make the crystal red, according to Disney's Vader material.

My understanding is that Sith sabers are always made from synthetic Kyber crystals which are red by default. Apparently Luke's saber he crafted on Tatooine (between episodes) was made in Obi-Wan's cave/lab since he didn't have access to naturally forming ones.
Natural Kyber crystals are normally blue, green or yellow.
I mean she literally joined with a guy who she saw kill innocent people, her friends and the girl she had feelings for because "OMG hes hot!" and "I can fix him!" trope stupidity. So not only is she evil for siding with such a person she is also a idiot that makes desicions based on how turned on someone makes her it seems................. Fantastic character writing there guys!

Her lightsaber turning red while activated is so stupid. So, at that moment, she "bled" her kyber crystal by using anger and the dark side which turned it from blue to red.
If that's how it works, then why did Anakin's lightsaber stay blue the entire time he was fighting Obi-Wan on Mustafar? I'd say he was even angrier and in much more despair, so much so that he lost control and choked the one thing he loved the most and tried to save and tried to kill his mentor and father figure immediately after.
This is another reason that Disney's bleeding the crystal BS is stupid and I dislike it so much.
because dumb retcon. Back then, bleeding crystals didnt exist as a concept yet, if memory serves. Sith light sabers used to be red becuase they favored synthetic crystals.
Yet another instance of "I half-read an article on Wookiepedia", just like the cortosis and the existence (albeit temporally displaced) of Ki Adi Mundi. Besides, I thought bleed was supposed to be this concerted ritual that took a fairly long time and a lot of focus. It essentially works by torturing the kyber crystal with the Dark Side. You don't just bleed a lightsaber over the course of a few minutes like you're doing all your Dark Side homework on the bus on the morning of the due date.
To make it even stupider, Kyle from The Imaginary Axis YT channel (highly recommended for his Darkseid two-parter) did a video fairly recently about if a lightsaber could cut Superman (short answer: no, obviously), and he brought up bleeding at the end. And I'm now left thinking "the timeline lines up... ...oh no..." Do these doofuses get their ideas from _UA-cam videos?_ Speaking of doing your homework on the bus ride...
And also it's been remaining blue after Anakin got his sith eyes.
It's a cute gag in the lego game, when Anakin's lightsaber suddenly turns red and he hits it until it turns blue again.
As a canon explanation however, it's stupid.

Yeah the Revan Book did a good job with seeing into the future Lord Scourge learned from Revan he ended up seeing the future keep changing till he saw the best outcome. I highly suggest you read the book. If you wanna a good evil winning book read the Darth Bane Trilogy it does a good job following the Sith code

Just a few reminders:
Mae tried to kill an innocent bartender so Indara would try and save him, making her an easier kill.
Qimir killed several innocent jedi who weren't even there to look for him.

And this is something that was invented for disney star wars.

@sneezeguardable what's funny is they are held accountable in the show. The whole point of the cover up is that they don't want both the council and the senate to know what's going on. We know bare minimum the senate will know anything discussed in the council meetings, which implies they have at least some control over them.
That fight between Osha and May isn't just an uninspiring fight, but think about the amazing waste of money that was involved: it was either Stenburg and a stuntwoman and they had to digitally put Stenberg's head on the stuntwoman's body, or two stuntwomen and both of them had their faces replaced.
All that because of the almost completely underutilized twin gimmick that added so little that they didn't even feel the need to have the child versions be identical.
Two stunt doubles would have fought better.

Light sabers are famously very hard to calibrate and align, but somehow they work fine with the crystal hanging out of the side of it.
The idea of lightsabers change colors when the user turns dark side is so ridiculous. The blades of Sith lightsabers are usually red because Sith create their kyber crystals synthetical while Jedi use natural crystals.

In a setting where there is a magical realm as big as a real world most things are just regular tools that are used by both good and evil characters. I watched 1 episode and said nope, but I have been watching disparu. I feel for anyone who stuck it out.
I pirated every episode, watched episode 1 and said "nah Disparu, Drinker, Gary, and Reaper will cover it i ain't wasting my time with this obvious dumpster fire", then i watched #3 (cuz it was supposedly so bad i couldn't believe it, it was of course) and i could only bare to flick through #7 ( just to see how it could possibly get worse, it did of course).

It maddening because the Jedi, through many great pieces of the extended universe, have been THOROUGHLY and very thoughtfully dissected by examining their failures and achievements. The finest example that I can think of is KOTOR I / II.
Kreia is a masterclass in writing an antagonist. Her criticism of the Jedi was exceptionally well thought-out and her motivations made sense. Nobody loves her, but everyone respects her character. Same as Sion and Nihilus.
Don't even get me started on Revan.
Edit: Or Jolee Bindo for that matter. He was one of my favorite Star Wars characters of all time. He had a great take on the Jedi Order. The most based opinion imo.

You could write a whole video essay about how both of their characters bounced around like ping pong balls, especially Osha. At least at points, Mae had something approximating a goal. Why am I supposed to care that Osha switched to the Dark Side? Is that something her character would do? I don't know, Acolyte! You tell me! She's _your_ character.
