Ahsoka vs Maul will always be S Tier for me, especially since I’ll never forget what it was like watching it for the first time in 2020. Alfred Hitchcock gave a storytelling example about a bomb under a table. If you just make the bomb explode, the audience is surprised for fifteen seconds. If you show the bomb under the table, the audience is in suspense for fifteen minutes. Watching Ashoka vs Maul while waiting for Order 66 to drop was like waiting for a bomb to go off that was set 15 years ago.
That’s a terrific argument. I’ve always loved that quote by Hitchcock. It’s not the fault of that fight, but I know the fate of both of those characters while I’m watching it. So I’m not expecting Order 66 to happen and either of them become casualties. Now, you take this exact scene, and exact episode and have it come out after s6 of clone wars, before Rebels…. Oh man. I would agree completely. The stakes are SO high.
You could argue it’s a similar problem to Anakin v Obi but at that point we don’t know exactly how Anakin becomes disfigure and it’s less about the stakes than it is the tragedy that they’re fighting in the first place.
That’s the ONLY reason it doesn’t make S tier for me. Which maybe is unfair because it’s not the fault of the show
It was such a terrific, smoooooth fight. I think it is the most visually appealing. I have to put it S Tier too.

Vader v Luke 2 from ROTJ is my #1. The stakes are high, the emotions are vast and dynamic and he learned his lesson from the cave in ESB. And John Williams pulled out the chorus for the climax. The best.

@BeyondTheDuneSea I'd love for you guys to do a John Williams Star Wars tracks/musical cues tier list: Duel of the Fates, Asteroid Field, Across the Stars, Battles of Heroes, Imperial March, Binary Sunset (I know its called The Princess Appears, but doggone it, it's Binary Sunset), The Throne Room. So many possibilities.
@@matthewallen1834I would LOVE to do that - I’m just not sure realistically how we’d accomplish that on UA-cam. We would have to play a portion of the track and I get real nervous about that with YTs copyright system. I’ll keep looking into it though!
Maul vs. Kenobi, final battle is the ultimate chess game before the lightsabers even hit. If you hear Sam Witwer discuss just the stances, then add their history. Throw in their conversation at the end and it will always give me goosebumps. Middle A tier with minimal fighting but massive impact.

Hi guys! What about Dooku vs Yaddle in Tales? Great fight that could have turned out Attack of the Clones so different if Yaddle escapes, and very emotional too.

I Know you cant put all the fights but I want to make the case for the Maul & Savage vs Darth Sidious, Season 5 of Clone Wars.
It has the choreography, it has the music, it has a lot of meaning and relevance in the story, the characters have history together and great dialog and I think is the best lightsaber fight we have from Sidious for sure, what he says, how he moves, Its very important for him to achieve this and eliminate this possible threat and do it himself, killing Savage and Humiliating Maul to the lowest end with no mercy. Its unexpected, different from anything else. For me is a low A or high B at least.

I’d probably put that fight at A or B as well. It’s been a while since I watched it but I’ve always loved the gravity of that fight. At that point, we don’t know Mauls fate so we’re left with “Oh.. is this it for Maul?? This is how he goes out??” I think that adds a lot to it
There’s also a great moment in this fight where Palpatine toys with Maul and Savage and does a similar laugh that he did when Luke and Vader first clash in Return of the Jedi!
Seth arguing against Duel of the Fates going in S-Tier is so infuriating
Everyone has their own opinion 🙂. Seth puts more stock into the personal emotional weight behind the fight. That’s the only reason it was “tippy top of A tier” at first. But hey, we got him there in the end 😅
What makes Vader v Luke 1 so compelling is the lack of John Williams in most of the fight.
That’s very true!! I think the musical restraint helps add to the weight and unease at the moment.

Seth letting other people ruin his Yoda vs Dooku moment is dumb. Never let other people dictate how a moment hits you.
Normally, I would agree. But Seth was a child at the time. Watching people laugh at something you find very impactful or serious while you’re a child can definitely leave a negative impression.

17:25 I would rank this a High B but a very low A given the history between Anakin and Ahsoka in The world between worlds in my opinion was so intense imo because A) these two characters went through so much together fighting in the clone wars. B) I think she blames herself a little bit for not being there for him during the events of ROTS, and that’s why she couldn’t handle being a master to Sabine.

44 min in and looking good. Feel like the Kenobi/Vader fight in Ashoka could have been higher especially with the dialogue. Can’t exclude that and include the dialogue in TFA about Kylo needing to train her and then force awakens in her. But overall looks good.
Agree on the S tier to a T and can’t believe Seth wanted the duel of fates in A 🧐🧐🧐.
Haha thank you!! It’s all arbitrary, of course, but my distinction when it came to the dialogue thing is that in Kenobi that dialogue happens after the fight is over. But if there’s dialogue IN the fight then I counted it toward it - like in TFA. If that makes sense 😅
@@BeyondTheDuneSea I get that. But man seeing them battle again was amazing and the strike to the helmet showing Hayden’s face and the vocals going back and forth between Anakin and Vader was an amazing touch. Felt like it deserved better.

I always thought that Count Dukoo humbles Obi and Ani in that first fight because that was the instruction from Palpatine, specially regarding what to do if he faced Anakin, also this 2 Jedi in particular are his legacy, his linage, I still think is Top C tear to, but wanted to give more credit to Dooku, is his best live action fight and because he did great and came victorious against 2 students and his Master afterwards.
