- The Acolyte Episode 8 Season finale was the most convoluted, poorly written, lore breaking heap of bantha poo doo I've ever seen. Shoehorning Plagueis in the show for 4 seconds to add shock value and just use him like a form of click bait into this show written by people who, in my opinion, do not understand Star Wars, is the biggest slap in the face.
I really do not like this show and what it does to Star Wars.
I am glad it is over and everyone got paid. May they all continue on successfully AWAY from Star Wars with their careers.

You know Star Wars is in a bad place when the fans are begging for their favorite characters to not show up out of fear of them being destroyed.

Truly scary, depressing times we're living in. God man, why can't they just hire competent people and stick to basic, storytelling fundamentals 101 again? How hard does it have to be? We're not asking for much here. Just do your jobs again like pre-Disney era and you'll make even MORE money and enjoy even MORE success. Why is that such a bad thing now!! How much more do we have to suffer through this?
I genuinely don't think any of the people running Star Wars like the franchise with the exception of Filoni and Faverau. Everyone else seems to have some personal vendetta against the franchise like it somehow wronged them and want to kill it slowly and painfully and make the fans watch it all. They don't care and they never will care.
@@VandicoupStar Wars is literally a free money making machine or at least it was. It's actually so simple. Just tell simple, feel good stories set in the Star Wars universe.
It's so easy that I guarantee that I could make Star Wars a 50 billion dollar industry in the space of a year and I don't even have any experience in script or story writing.
A lot of shows are in a bad place if fans don't want their heroes to return to the screens. In fear of what will become of them.
Maybe Palpatine decided to kill Plagueis so that he would never tell him the story of The Acolyte ever again

And Sol was definitely flawed - you think he had good intentions but he was reckless, ignorant of other perspectives beyond his own narrow one, and selfish when he lied to Osha. That part is one of the most blatant examples of bad writing I have ever seen. He JUST helped Sol previously by stomping on her foot and now all of a sudden, with ZERO explanation or context, he helps her escape?!? WTF??

@@n7sorcerer419 my favourite was from episode 2 when a Jedi leads everybody to where Torbin is meditating. He leads them because he knows the way. Osha, who is at the back of the group, breaks off and somehow gets to Torbin before everybody else - which makes her look suspicious. But then Yord comes out and reveals he followed her and saw everything. So what was the point of the tension build up? What was the point of any of that nonsense? It doesn't make sense on any level. Soooo stupid.

I think from the beginning its screen was written by Ai. Thats how they launder money, and its been so chaotic and utterly controversial. 8/10 things happen not getting explained properly or at all. 180M $ and u get those ebay costumes, just compare the white robes to Jedi Survivor flashback scenes to old rep. jedi. Hilarious. EVEN THE DISNEY LIGHTSABERS looks like ww2 flashligts!! they three times the size!! and god whole colored sabers, withouts a base white center...they could done better lightsaber animation in 1999. AND slow motion in a jedi fight. when did you saw that ever in sw? god. so so heartbreaking how they massacared lore

In TFA & TLJ, Disney set out to destroy the characters of both Han & Luke. In The Acolyte, the goal was to destroy the reputation & the perception of the Jedi Order, and in the end, not even Yoda was spared.
Which makes me think the 2008 TCW isn't responsible. But yeah what Disney really did is unforgivable.

George's poetry has devolved into an outright parody. A concept used to justify empty symbolism, where the audience has to fill in the blanks themselves thus letting the writers be lazy and self-indulgent.
The show felt like 'We can make up for this crap writing by adding fan favourite characters as stupid cameos to redeem ourselves'
You can say that about most of the Disney shows
Hows it bad writing? Sol is a decent character, the 2 sisters are alright they just messed them up in the end. Its not anything captivating but it doesn’t really do anything bad. Look at ashoka, thats a show with bad writing because there is no writing, no character is developed except for the villains baylan and shin, atleast they fucking put the work in for the acoylte and had a story instead of the pointless cashgrab that is ashoka.
The acoylte is far from perfect its probably only a 5/10 but atleast the characters actually have character and the show has a plot (which again, could have been rounded off better)
@@tshabalala-the-goat Im not an avid hater of star wars media and love many parts of the sequel trilogy as well as Disney star wars projects. This was just the one that did not feel like star wars and was just not that enjoyable to watch for me.
@@tshabalala-the-goat I have to say that Sol and Qimir were great characters and acted really well. It's too bad they were surrounded by a crappier show. Qimir for one is one of my favorite characters now and I wish he was featured in more stuff outside of this. A show just about him written well would be a killer. Manny Jacinto did an awesome job. The twins story was contrived and only created to appease the showrunners needs.

The Sith thenceforth consisted of only two Sith Lords at any given time; the master who embodied the power of the dark side, and the apprentice who craved that power. The rule of two has nothing to do with the dilution of power but rather the preservation of that power

I just want to point out another break in character. Mae, while about to crash land, shouts out "Brace yourself, Pip", as if she developed any real chemistry or repore with the droid she just stole from her sister lll, like 24 hours ago.

I really hate how they made lightsabers into mood crystals. The bleeding thing only made it worse by undermining the idea of the Sith trying to stay hidden. And this scene even makes it look plain ridiculous.
I think this is pretty much the nicest thing I can say about this show.

I’m sure it’s been said already here, but in the High Republic books Vernestra hyperspace-trips - she gets hallucinatory visions while in hyperspace.
It’s depicted in the books as being an important way the force communicates with/through her.

In my opinion, I feel Sol was going to kill Mae. He was using his anger as he has been so emotional this entire season. I think he was targeting her to kill her and the Tracker Gopher was being a better Jedi than Sol was and stopped him from killing her.
It makes zero sense for him to kill her. He needed her alive in order to prove that the lesbian witches existed and what they did with the force.

In the end, nothing makes sense, the dark side is glorified and made to look like objectively the correct side for anyone to join because it apparently has no negative consequences or effect on your morals and/or personality and just taking the dark side in for 5 minutes is enough to make Osha, who was PADAWAN TIER, stronger than a Master, Sol dies for no reason, and Osha stares into the sunset as she holds hands with the guy who killed her friends and kidnapped her.
I hate this show. I hate it with all my heart.

Words of wisdom, you have multiple Sith, lying Jedi, dead Jedi everywhere, now you have Yoda in the ending. This is an alternate Star Wars universe of crap, thank you, Disney crap Management.
This is what mythology with no moral grounding looks like. This show was a free fall down the chasm of moral relativism.
You can’t tell a morally “grey” story if you can’t first identify moral “black” and “white”.
I've forgiven Star Wars a lot of its flaws and foibles in the past. I've generally enjoyed most stuff, for all its highs and lows, most stuff has been 'okay/meh' at worst. This is the first time I think I've really intensely disliked something though. It just kept getting worse and worse and worse to the very end. Really awful show, not just as bad Star Wars, but fundamentally a bad TV show.
That said, unlike a lot of people I don't see this as 'ruining Star Wars'. For the simple reason that it's so fundamentally 'not' Star Wars, I find it impossible to associate it with the rest of the franchise. This leaves no footprint or impact in my mind, it does not linger. The Acolyte is just...nothing. It touches no other part of Star Wars lore, for me. It's done.

At other times, it's a pang of caring showing up, the ghostly remnants of passion for something you might have once loved, before the weary cynicism pushes it down again. Or maybe it's like being at a stately procession or a funeral. You know the casket's going into the hole in the ground and you gotta stay at least until then but, man, are they sure taking their time getting to it.
Many people felt like this when the prequels first came out. I must admit, after all the glazing the prequels have received after the misguided sequel trilogy came out, it does feel a bit cathartic, though considering this is SW Theory's channel, I might be in the minority on that one.
TL;DR: It can be fun to lambast bad TV shows and movies.

Leslye Headland said something to the effect that a daughter eventually needs to kill off her daddy-daughter relationship with her father and shut out her father's "I did it for you" rationalizations so she can turn away from him and stop being his daughter and become her own independent woman. According to Leslye, Osha killing Sol and not allowing him to explain himself when she kills him is a symbolic representation of that. That's why the show wants you to root for Osha killing Sol as he tries to say "I love you." It's essentially Leslye and every woman who had a dysfunctional relationship with her dad saying "Screw you, daddy" because that's the most important piece of art Leslye's ever made.

There is nothing else he is here for in this series other than bait.

This is the kind of writing and fan service that we don’t want. It’s hollow, it’s lazy, it doesn’t add to the universe, it doesn’t take any skill and it’s benefitting from other people’s work that you rightfully appreciate.

He was reset, mind wiped, personality gone, and essentially killed, and not even Osha seemed to react. I'm certain Osha notices the droid at Mae's side, but makes no reference to his reset coloured eyes! None? The droid she "loved"!
That's either shocking writing (most likely) or it shows Osha to be a very, awful person, even before she does-what-she-does.
Oh and that wasn't Yoda at the end of the episode, that was a Yoda looking puppet sitting on the floor. It could have been a toy firetruck to be honest, wouldn't make a difference as far as anything canon is concerned.

Star Wars is officially dead for me because of this show. I grew up with the prequels. I remember watching a bootleg copy of Revenge of the Sith (that I still have) with my dad when I was 6 (I’m 25 now) and I loved it. When my dad saw that I was interested, he was so excited to show me the other movies. That was how my love for Star Wars began.
Years later, my dad and I watched the Clone Wars movie in the theaters and the tv series every Friday when a new episode dropped. We made it a tradition to order pizza and bake either brownies or cookies. We even had lightsaber fights with those retractable lightsaber. I loved Obi-Wan’s lightsaber and used that while my dad used Darth Vader’s.
My dad has since passed and I treasure those moments and memories more than anything. I wonder what he would think of the sequels and the shows that came after. Knowing him, we’d probably be making fun of The Acolyte together.
And thats one of an Milllion Stories, how SW or Krieg der Sterne over Here did forge Legacy Moments for People. An Hereos Journey in an Fantasy/Scifi Setting, mixed with Saga Parts and an blink of Sarcasm on itself. I still dont get it, what is so hard to stay true to This and adding even LQTB or whatever to it, i am sure it will work. But killing it off and forcing Agendas wont.
You got me thinking “what’s worse?” And ignoring the Horror flick genre, I can’t think of any major show/movie with worse writing. Characters changing motivation every other scene just isn’t done. If it happens on other shows it’s once MAYBE twice. This show just pulls that card left and right.
I hope they remake the original trilogy so the absolute destruction can be complete.

What really annoys me is the inconsistency in their force abilities. One minute Sol is an unstoppable beast but then the next second he can’t sense the basic things.
Edit: I totally understand the human aspect of frustration and clouded judgments however I will highlight the specific example of the Tracker. I’ll take a quote from the last episode Qimir said “if I can sense you so can the Jedi” while they are using the Tracker

That's always been the case in star wars. One minute palps is the strongest force star wars has ever seen then he is picked up by Vader's hands and thrown over a ledge to his supposed death. One minute Darth maul is super quick and able to block multiple attacks from two great Jedi's and the next he's so slow that he watches someone fly up from below him grab a lightsaber float towards him and cut him in half without being able to react in time. There are never ending examples of inconsistencies

I wasn't even surprised about the hyperspace diarrhea due to her constipated acting range. It's just the force balancing its faithful agent in whatever universe this was.
Can we all just come together and officially declare this series non-canon? The only way it becomes canon is if this part of the timeline gets erased somehow, therefore making it canon that it isn’t canon.
I would recommend continuing with Star Wars under the assumption that these events just haven’t happened.

Thankfully, this is the first Star Wars show I haven’t watched. When I saw the interviews and the agendas being discussed beforehand, I knew deep down this wasn’t going to be worth it. Ignorance is bliss. Therefore, to me, it’s not canon.
I have a theory that Filoni allowed EVERYTHING in this series to happen because I have a feeling the World Between Worlds is going to be used to rewrite canon anyway. Hopefully banish the sequels too. Could you imagine? It would make people fall in love with Star Wars again.

I love the fact that (through a metaphore via the Duel of the Fates) Qui-Gon dying decided the fate for Anakin to be taught by Kenobi, and, since Kenobi didn’t see the political corruption (and issues of detachment) of the Jedi like Qui-Gon did, this lead Anakin down a bad path. The reason I find this relevant to The Acolyte is because how IRONIC it is that the writers are SO politically detached from what is morally right, it is leading Star Wars down a bad path, corrupting it like Anakin.
