Thank you ever so much my friend for your kindness, I just fixed my skoda,s driver side switch as I followed your instructions. You saved me more than few quid.I just subscribed looking forward to see your other videos.many thanks
Hi Harvey, I replaced the switch and I’m still having an issue with the passenger side window not working from the drivers side switch - any ideas? Cheers.
have a look at the cable inside the A pillar rubber bellows on each side + the connections. Then look at the main connection in the drivers side door (unplug- replug) see what happens, if nothing then look at passenger side also.
Thanks for a great channel and helpful videos. My windows on my Skoda Fabia (2006) just suddenly stopped working (both sides, and passenger switch does not work either). Fuses OK, cables seems OK and power gets through, electric mirror works and locking/opening works. Do you believe a broken window switch could cause this (like the ones you changed in this video)? The thing is that the passenger switch doesnt work either.... Or is it more likely some kind of faulty control unit?
The control for all the windows goes through the drivers side, so this needs to work first before suspecting other individual windows. I've done various videos covering the areas to look at, sadly not a video combining them all, (I should do one) first check the wires behind the A pillar rubber gator for chafing/ breaks and then the A pillar connections themselves (doing this live often finds a fault). Then look at replacing the switch as this can malfunction with wear on the toggle switch. Check the connections going into the control unit/motor on drivers side - look for bent pins, loose contacts or broken contact corrosion.
Hi Harvey, both my front drivers side and passenger electric window work intermittently, usually only during the summer in hot weather randomly. I unplugged and then replugged the top connection in the drivers side A pillar and I was able to open and close the window and then it would not work again. Can you advise me what the issue might be and how to fix this? Love your videos, they’re a great help!!
Sounds like you found the issue with connector and it's circuit. Trace that circuit, test for continuity if you can. Your looking for either a wire break or a loose connector. You can reattach the battery and test for loose intermittent connections and even wires just by wiggling stuff about whilst activating the windows. Wires behind the bellows is a common place they get frayed and break, but a break may occur somewhere else, just got to find it. The switches can also fail from wear. My switch connector did work loose, but I fixed that.
is it anyhow possible which cable goes to which pin? former owner of my fabia changed the socket an all cables are connected to only one button currently. i bought the oem switch but i can't replace it because of that. any idea what should i do?
IMHO you best bet would be to go to a scrap yard and cut off a connector with cables attached from a similar fabia then you have, in effect a pre-wired connector.
Hi HatBoyHarvey. I have just replaced my window regulator on my skoda fabia mk1 but before when I pressed the switch once it would automatically go down and the same when pulling the switch up. Now that function seems to have gone ( same for passenger side ) , I made sure the window was well seated into the two clasps and didn't tighten fully until it was running up and down freely. Any ideas what the problem could be is there a way to reset the limits on motor? Cheers
Hi HatBoy Harvey, your videos really help out so thanks for doing them - quick question, I need to replace the switches soon and you mentioned the connector is glued in initially? How do you disconnect if glued? Sorry if that’s a stupid question. Also, is there any need to disconnect the negative battery terminal before doing the swap or is this not necessary? Cheers.
It's always good practice to take the negative lead off the battery first whilst working on any electrical components as some can throw up fault codes that include a dash warning light that will need clearing, but I have removed mine without issue. The glue won't be an issue, just poll apart.
Hello and congratulations on your great videos, they have been very usefull and you have earned my like and subscribe. My issue is: sometimes i press down and it goes up a centimeter. And if i one touch to go up, it goes up closes and opens by itself half way. Could it be these switches or something else?
The connection to the switch aren't the best neither the cables into the door behind the rubber bellows on the A pillar, yes the switches wear out and can do erratic things. The motor can be faulty also, but first try: the window glass can get sticky so a bit of silicon spray helps here fully pull glass up and then down lubing the rubber. Finally do the reset functions fully up 3 seconds fully down 3 seconds and see what happens.
Thanks for the great video my friend.on my 2004 vrs has this problem but when I unplug the bright pink block connectors on the driver side motor and place back in my window work a few times then won't work again 😒 is this the window motor that needs to be replaced,,!!!? If eny one can help will be much appreciated
Have you replaced the switch/check the switch plug again, then try the motor module plug again. If you're sure these are OK have a look at the wiring at the A pillar/door connection for signs of breaks/fraying. You could also test the motor independently to see if it works or not.

Hi all, I’ve just tried to swap out the window switches on my 2005 Skoda Fabia VRS and it transpires the switches on my car are not attached to the housing via small Phillips screws but are welded in which is really annoying - thanks Skoda!! So if you want to replace yours, you may find you need to bear this in mind. Anyway, it transpires my problem is not the switches as I connected the new switches to the wiring and the central locking works but still nothing from both windows. What’s weird is the passenger window works with the passenger door window switch and so I assumed it probably needed the switches on the drivers door to be replaced. Back to the drawing board - or a garage if I can’t work it out. Any other suggestions welcome. 😀
Check the wires and connections behind the rubber bellows on the A pillar for chafing, these often cause this problem. The switches will detach, just need a bit of persuading :-) If no luck with the pillar wires/connections then it could be the motor unit connections or motor itself. Keep working on it logically as you are and I'm sure you will find something, good luck :-)
If you have a multimeter and battery you can test relays but the fabia has a combined control unit with the mirrors I believe and not sure which it is. See if there is a signal to the drivers door switches. check wiring loom/connectors to door. Drivers motor is master to passenger side so you may only need drivers side. Disconnect/reconnect battery. water/damp affects these. will look into doing a video at some stage.
@@HatBoyHarvey hi there, I got to the problem with the motor, it was completely dead, found a replacement on ebay for £70 and it works perfectly now, thanks for all the advice, you are a credit to UA-cam.
Were some wires broken? Have you tested the wiring for power to the motor? have you tested the motor? It would be a good idea to use OBD2 scanner (vagcom etc) to check the convenience module and reset.
With my VRs, the drivers side switch was intermittent and then one day they both stopped working. Do you think replacing the drivers side switch will fix this issue? many thanks :)
The wires inside the rubber bellows on the A pillar hinge can fray and cause faults, so worth a check before purchasing new switches. Also at the same time check the connections, waggling them may start the windows working again. Disconnect battery and they clip in/out.
