    These are excellent videos, well lit, photographed, with appropriate and well-timed commentary.
    And the procedures used are clearly spot-on.
    Should you not disconnect the battery, before starting this procedure, to prevent, in the worst case scenario, the air-bags firing ?
    Should be on Erwin !
    Beats anything VW and Haynes currently do hands down.
    I need to do something like this as the motorised temperature flap went many years ago and the main dealer quoted £600 at that time to replace it at that time ! God knows what it will be now !
    In the meantime, I've had to remove the 5 amp fuses nos F3 and F12 to stop an excessive battery drain at rest, caused, I suspect, by an electrical short in the temperature flap motor which prevented the EMU and convenience unit from powering down.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Рік тому

      Thanks, really appreciate your kind critic. No the airbags are unaffected doing this, neither steering wheel nor crash board are taken out, if you did then you have to be careful. Yes did I not mention to take the earth lead off, oh I remember I was testing the flapper motor and control unit, but you are quite right, best to disconnect the battery for most electrical jobs. Thank for sharing the info on the EMU and flapper motor, fuses etc, will look into that as I seem to have a drain, but haven't found one as yet :-)

      Thank you for your kind appreciation, it is very welcome. in ans2Q: Maybe. Sometimes it takes a while to change from cold to hot or anything in the middle. Moving the lever fully hot or cold activates an override, so if It only works like this It may need replacing or just re-setting as the movement parameters are logged in a control unit which may have become corrupted. You could watch the motors action with the dash out/plugged in to check its function. I did this and found if you help it by hand a number of times it can free up and start to work again. Hope this helps for now as I will video this when/at some stage :-)

    Thanks for the video. This weekend I did a coolant and thermostat change based on your video about the topic. Sadly my heater is stuck on cold and I do believe that it is the flapper motor. I have a question. If the flapper motor is stuck on cold does the car NOT circulate hot coolant to the heater matrix in the dashboard? During the coolant change the car only took 4 liters while the old coolant almost filled a 5 liter bottle. If you wonder why I did a coolant change with broken flapper motor - I didn't check before and I didn't need hot air this summer... Another thing is that the coolant level sensor also does not work after the coolant flush. The good thing is that you got me covered on that topic. Anyway, I'm looking on UA-cam for other videos about the flapper, but noone films it like you do. I will look forward to seeing how you change it one day and compare to how I will do it in the next weeks. Winter is coming 😰

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 роки тому

      If you take a few panel off you can get to the flapper mechanism and help it turn to hot which controls the air either coming from outside or the heater core. The thermostat controls flow to the radiator. You have probably got an air lock in the coolant system somewhere, just squeeze the flex pipes while running and drive it around a bit and eventually the air will escape as long as the water pump is OK. When it gets warm all the pipes should feel warm if one isn't probably there is the air pocket.

    • @medzoPuh
      @medzoPuh 2 роки тому

      @@HatBoyHarvey Thanks for the reply. This morning I drove the car for the first time and indeed as you said the coolant level dropped, so I topped it off twice. The coolant level warning lamp stopped illuminating, and the car started blasting hot air like never before.
      In my defense I will say this: yesterday I did the following test: set the temperature to hot, turn the AC on, and after seconds the AC engages and super cold air started streaming. Turning the knob from hot to cold and back had almost no effect. This morning the same test: the knob functions as normal. I guess this flapper motor got unstuck, maybe due to the shacking of the car. I will be keeping a close eye on it. Anyway, thanks for the reply and many thanks for your videos. My Fabia has done 270000km and often things break or need replacing but I don't give up on it because it is so easy to repair with the help of your videos.

    My 2006 1.9tdi doesn't have any happy medium with the heat. If you turn the heat up even one notch it will go to roasting hot, no mix of warm and cold. I've read online this is just how the the heating system works but I don't remember this with my 2 previous Fabias. Does this sound normal to you?

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  5 років тому +1

      No, the deviation flapper may be getting stuck or the motor. It sounds like the basic settings may have resorted to the overide default settings . The flapper motor often fails to opperate correctly, stutters and confuses the module. You can get the system checked with VCDS to do a BASIC settings run as a first port of call, which may fix the issue, but the flapper motor is known to become temperamental over long term use and may need replaceing (BASIC settings need to be run again). I had similar issue and will do a video on what I did and how I got mine working again :-)

      You're very welcome. Sounds like you have a manual temp control which in some respects is lucky as the flapper motor version controlling the heater/ventilation flap often become temperamental over time. If you look deep into the dash near the back of the fan unit you should be able to see the vent/heat flap and control unit it came from. I've not seen one, but it should be similar to the right hand distribution flap. Hope you get this sorted;-)
