To echo all the other great comments here, this how-to video is the best one I have ever seen. The editing is first-class. It took me a total of 7 hours to complete the job having to acquire a rivet gut and several spline bits mid-way through but that will have undoubtedly saved me hundreds of pounds if I had taken the car to a garage. After re-assembling, I had an issue where the driver's door wasn't opening after being locked. You can imagine my relief when I found a further tutorial by HatBoyHarvey to resolve that as well! Window now operating fine. Thank you so so much!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Your support means a lot and I appreciate the critique, which is always helpful. Glad you were able to fix your window regulator issue and hope my other videos wil help on other future problems :-)
I totally agree with Dariusz. My Skoda Fabia Excellence 2002 is getting a bit long in the tooth now. Things like this window regulator are, unsurprisingly, starting to play up. On such occasions it is tempting to give up on the car, as this kind of thing would be very expensive to have done at a garage and I have until now had zero confidence with mechanical repairs. I think if I ditched the car now it would get scarpped, but this would be a shame as the vehicle still runs really well and is a pleasure to drive. I think HatboyHarvey is doing a great thing for the environment because he shows us how to extend the life of our cars through a little time and effort. On this occasion, it was my passenger door window regulator, but it was simple to extrapolate from his really good driver's door video, especially with the clear audio commentary which is really helpful including little humourous tips like storing the window glass in Uncle Bob's shed. I was however relieved to find that I didn't need to dismantle the door lock because I was able to pull the wiring loom all the way through from the door hinge end and thus completely remove the panel from the car. I would add that I made the mistake of not remounting motor onto the panel before installing it back in the door...Consequently the central pulley popped out and I had to restart the job and rewind the tension in the wire which was a struggle. I won't make that mistake again! Many thanks for this excellent video!
Thanks for the comment, it's great to hear how guys get on with such projects and get positive results in the end. I've really started to think that extending the life of older cars is the way to go now that we are starting think about the environment more, so I'm all for that. uncle Bob's been saying it for years as he actually lives in that shed and takes baths in old buckets :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Totally agree re old cars. My wife's '95 Polo is fine & won't be parted with as she's from Wath & there's no arguing with that. Am looking at kits to convert old cars to EV instead of scrapping. They seem ahead with this across the water eg transition-one.fr/ but they don't do right-hand drives😕
I can't imagine how much work went into making this superb video tutorial, hours and hours of work no doubt, so HBH I would like to say a huge thankyou for your selfless work. My window regulator went pop and I needed to get it sorted in a hurry so decided to have a go myself and thanks to this wonderfully detailed video I was able to get the job done. Subscribed and liked 😁😁😁😁😁
Thank you so much man! Just replaced my regulator panel. I couldn't find an M8 socket, and 4 of the shops i visited didn't have them. Ended up leaving the entire doorlock assembly in place, and working around it. Was tricky with removing the panel and installing the new one but worked. Also couldn't find the 6,4x10 rivets that come from factory, but I had 5x12 rivets. Those pulled straight through, so I taped washers to the back of the holes inside the door, and then fastened the rivets through the panel, door and then washers. That gave them enough hold! Ended up spending €55 on a panel, and €25 on rivet gun + rivets, and the shop would have charged me €280! Granted, it did cost me like 10 hours including all the research but thats still a good pay for my age. Thanks a lot man! You give me the confidence to work on Margreet as she's called and build up my mechanic skills
That is great to hear. Glad you saved money and my video helped give you the confidence to do the work as it isn't for the faint hearted! Just one thing with the rivets; you could have installed threaded rivets or rivnuts which I would have done if mine was riveted. They are easy to install without needing a special rivet gun as they can be installed with just spanners, maybe something to consider if you need to do the other side :-)
This video has been my bible during all the past week. You just saved me a lot of money and my old Skoda Fabia 2001 from a lot of rain. Thank you myterious hooded man
5:48 I haven´t bothered removing the glass. Instead, I just prepared some tape, lifted the glass all the way up, and stuck it to the door frame with a few pieces (I always used like 6 or 7 strips, just to be sure). You make great, comprehensive and very detailed guides.
Yes, you can do that if you don't fancy taking the glass out; the choice is yours. Thanks, I like to make videos for anyone to do and just how to do it :-)
Extremely useful, thanks. A great filming and editing achievement. Mine was riveted, and I used Rivnuts when replacing. The door catch nearly defeated me as it is held in by two threadlocked Torx screws, not bolts. Refitting the wires and bellows to the A post also very fiddly.
A master class needed for the 2nd time. First time video was unknown until halfway through replacing the complete assembly, and separated the lock from the winder assembly taking triple the time the sort things out. Now have bought the black fitting holding the lock to assembly, hopefully making the reverse procedure much easier :)
Again - thank you - have been there a year ago. A time-consuming struggle but it was a succes at the end, and I saved a lot of money because Skoda spareparts are relative cheap and easy to get. If I had followed your method in detail, it would have been easier to change the broken plastic slide that connects the cables.
Thanks, Yes, parts are relatively cheap for these. Maybe I should have shown that slider in more detail, but I don't think it is a repair to recommend. It was only ever meant to be a temporary fix, but has actually lasted over 15 years. Still would only recommend fitting new or good salvaged parts :-)
Thankyou for this video, I was looking to get my drivers door window fixed as cables chewed up but watching this made it look do-able . I am very mechanically minded doing all jobs on my car which is a 1.2 fabia classic and I found this job very much do-able and fixed it today as well as cleaning lock and barrel whilst they were out it's now working fine, the only issue I have is the inner window seal which had a type of felt on it where Glass rides against it but this felt has all but peeled away so I will either find a new inner seal or stick a piece of new felt back on existing seal. Had all tools required so just cost £35 for new regulator panel and a few hours of my time . Thanks for video, very helpful, the only thing I would say to anyone just back out small barrel screw or use a strong magnetic screwdriver as mine fell inside but was eventually easily recovered with a strong magnet on the end of a hacksaw blade 👍
Thanks, you are very welcome. Glad you were able to fix the regulator and are planning replacing/repairing the inner felt seal for the window glass. Best of luck :-)
Thanks to this video i was able to repair my own window. Thank you! Its not the first time this channel and its content had helped me tackle a problem. I am an apprentice and i highly appreciate the in depth information in order to not only fix the problem but to also understand it. Given i own a haynes manual. In this particular job the haynes manual is a lot harder to understand than the explaination in this video. As you explain how you are going to achieve what you are about to do. Where the haynes manual assumes you know how.
Thanks, I am just trying to give others the benefit of my knowledge on material product design. To understand how something works it is often the simplest things that make it work and not work without them. Many mechanics often overlook what they take for granted as easy when for someone else that has never come across the same thing, finds hard.
@@HatBoyHarvey i had the unfortunate luck that mine broke half way down and it was utterly stuck. and the plastic bracket to which the lock is attached was broken. (so the connection of its relevance to the lock wasn't quite clear to me at first) I also struggled a lot with removing the lock cylinder and the door handle cable as i didn't quite understand how the setting screws worked, except for 'do not remove fully' the trick by pulling on the door handle to 'feel it change' helped me out there.
Thanks for this video, perfectly covers all details. Bit strange to see the driver seat on the right, but this could not confuse me, I have just succesfully replaced (with your significant help) the regulator on the proper driving side :)
Thanks again for the videos!!! Another thing I fixed thanks to them. I fixed the window mechanism. The metal cable broke, I bought the whole used mechanism, with speaker, metal cable, motor (totaling $40). I left only the electric cables and moved them to the new mechanism. When the cable is worn out, you can hear crackling and the motor howling, because it has difficulties, and sometimes the window does not close and returns. Thanks and greetings from Poland!!! I also have such a car :D May the diesel power be with you !!!
thank you very much for the time and effort you put into this video, this step by step video, it took the hard work out of changing my window regulator, you have done a great service for a lot of people, this is the best of youtube, thankyou
A very helpful video, thanks to it I was able to solve this problem in my Skoda. I thought I could do it alone, but without this vid it would be realy difficult. I had a window stuck in the door, so I had to drill the rivets to set it free but the rest of your advice has been invaluable ;)
Thanks once again for a great video, the locking mechanism on mine has caused me grief when trying to do this job. I had to cut the wires essentially, and then re-sodder them on when installing the new plate. The connector onto my locking mechanism is impossible to get out, and also the screws where jammed and i didnt want to destroy it furthere by trying to drill them out or tapping them with a oversized t-45 :(
Thanks for the demo was really helpful only for you i would never have tried it changed the regulator successfully keep up the good work much appreciated
Excellent video. But, wow, what an absolute mission to undo the regulator. Whereas on the MK1 Octavia, It's simply the door car being removed, 6 bolts holding the regulator, 2 bolts for the window clamps, and you slide out the whole mechanism. I think this Fabia setup similar for the MK1 Superb. I know the MK4 Golfs have this setup.
Thank you, glad you liked the video. I try to make helpful content so everyone can do repairs. May I ask about how the people call your country now? How is Czechia used, is it popular/not popular?
@@HatBoyHarvey It's different. I myself like to use the Czechia. But the Czech Republic is used quite often. Sorry for my English, I translate via google. I'm still happy to watch Kevin-Albert Williams. He's great too. You are both great. Good luck with your work. I like you guys
I have done this job before, however, it's always good to have a reminder - thanks for another superb 'how to' video HatboyHarvey - keep keeping-up the good work...
Oh man.. where was this video bout a year ago.. I gave it a go on my own but I had the entire panel riveted so I took it to a mechanic. Love your vids btw. Keep'em comming
I've just found out that these can be converted to threaded bolts with threaded inserts a bit like pop rivets, but haven't done this yet. If I ever get around to doing this I will do a video :-)
Thank you again. I could not achieve the finger sensitivity to chose window parcial opening/closing or full automatic opening/closing. So I put a little piece of electrician tape in the electronic pcb contacts that do the automatic thing. Problem solved. Now it does what I say to do :)
@@HatBoyHarvey the control box that has the window pushbuttons is closed with screws that can be removed. After that the pcb will be exposed. The mechanism of the pushbuttons is like this: soft push first contact (manual controlled), hard push second contact (automatic opening closing). If you put a little piece of tape between the contact and the part that will touch it, the electric contact will be cut and the window passes to only manual controlled.
Great vid, thanks. My motor was inop. Stripped it down to find the drive gear wheel & mechanism missing and glass wedged in place by a length of timber !!. Drive wheel now on order..😢
Thanks for the video! I have followed it too many times, now I don"t have to open it in UA-cam. :D If I may, I would add an additional step to make the glass positioning during the assembly easier: You hold your right little finger on that black plastic part at 05:03. If we remove it, then the glass pane have greater clearance, it is easier to find the way into the glass fixing thing(cradle?) during the assembly. And it is possible to bend this thing into "broken" state while we slip the pane down(yes, I have done it). We only have to pull it upwards to remove, and knock down to install.
Nice and very useful video. I will definitely follow the instructions for repairing the window regulator on my car. On thing by the way. I don't think it s a good idea to use a torque wrench to unscrew bolts.
again paying super attention as had to fit a new right winder assembly to the carrier. HOW does the lock carrier fit? I used double sided tape. previous first attempt was with lock bolted and carrier afterwards. Super fiddly but somehow fixed managed years ago. Now bought the lock carrier to fit as a whole carrier with lock attached, with the idea that it should be easier but did not manage to fit to door . Now seeing that it is possible, will try later. Again tks for the super fabia tutorials.
Yes there is a plastic bracket/carrier for the lock to attach to the panel/carrier then you just insert it into the door space, attach the bolt loosely then the panel etc etc :-)
really helpful i snapped the lock bracket from carrier though passenger side and had to re wind up the 8 figure cause when fitting motor i pushed the 3 pins back through carrier unwinding it all in tghe back big pain in the ass
It is worth doing IMHO, but you can't do it in a rush. Use steel Rivnuts not alloy. My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out.
@@HatBoyHarvey Got tape holding the glass in place atm, couldn't figure out how to tighten up the bolts that hold the glass on the clamps, now I know, 🤣
@HatBoyHarvey, Hi, I'm having trouble with my rear wiper-it’s not working. Any ideas on what might be causing this? SKODA FABIA II 1.4 TDI 80 ch Diesel (2007->2010) Thanks!
I purchased fabia 1.2 htp 2006 model but got also prpble. With the door itself not working at all complete dead someone was before there as all door card pins was replaced some of them broke upon removal but still all connections was checked fuse cables and looks good the motor itself looks fairly new but still no luck even for passengers door to operate loosing hope at that one as got now clues how to check the parts that supose to be on it
Micro-switch in lock fails due to long term wear, causes locking issues, (locking open/close not recognised, can be intermittent) new lock needed. Check wires going through A pillar bellows for chaffing (fix,re-solder) and also connections on pillar, unplug - plug in.
@HatBoyHarvey what I did was unplug the wiring in a pilar then clean it with electric cleaner for short time passenger window work but fail after 5 min I take off both door cards unplug both motors and one is fairly new from 2013 the passenger side is from 2006 checked all wiring no splits hard bends or broken wire fuse clean also change it for new one after I finish the central locking working in the switch on driver side but windows not so.meybe the switch itself can be faulty?
Great and informative video, Thank You . I came across it looking for a reason why the passenger front window on my 2009 Fabia when closing comes up at an angle dropping down at the back , not in it's guides or whatever keeps it in position .It then starts to open as it can't keep closing. I have to try closing while holding it in position . Any suggestions ?
Clean the channel out first and maybe lub it with silicone spray. It does sound like the glass isn't fixed in place at the rear so you may want to take the door card off and check the clamps. Make sure the clamps are clean and dry, oil free etc. Be careful with these when tightening, mindful of the torque specs, but enough to grip the glass, which maybe higher ;-)
My power windows behave very strangely: it works fine during the summer but when autumn comes they stop working. I believe it has something to do with humidity or even water getting inside the controller, because sometimes when it doesn’t work if I tackle with the fuse(take one out and insert it again) sometimes I can make it work. Did you see or hear about this kind of issue?
Absolutely, it happens with moisture entering the door cavities, so it is important to make sure as much as possible the window seal at the top edge is nice, clean and flexible. The door drain is free from crud and the inner panel seal is good. These doors start to leak over time and it is hard to find a definitive reason for it other than the top seal becoming hard or leaking in the small cap at the side from shrinkage. Replacements are very difficult to find other than dealers. If they will sell you these parts is another story!
Hello. Huge ask - but would you be looking to upload a video of a cambelt / water pump change on the car? Mines due soon and your content is so informative and helpful ... Thank you for all the past uploads. Great work.
All I can say is: I will be doing this at some stage as mine needs doing again. You need a crank locking tool + other tools. Mine is still on the original water pump and running ok, but may do that as well this time as they do fail :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Awesome. Thanks for the detailed reply... Look forward to this upload very much. Yeah I'd consider changing the water pump it if it's on original and go for a metal water pump as they sell the cheaper plastic version in some cambelt kits which I've read don't last a great deal compared to the metal water pumps. I've got the locking tool and just trying to source the correct belt kit /water pump for my model of fabia (1.9tdi 51 plate EC 74KW ATD - 6Y5364). 🙄 Seems they do lots of different variations of kits for this model of engine...
Hello, I did it very well by watching the video. Thank you very much and greetings. But finally, what size screw did you use instead of rivets. I couldn't find a screw that would fit those holes. I couldn't fix it to the door yet.
High great video thanks. My window dropped last night so my guess is I have to replace the window regulator so my question is… what bolts did you get to fix the panel in place as you mention most have rivets but yours were bolts. Or is it a case of if it’s riveted then you have to use rivets to replace it
If you have rivets they have to be drilled out and then new rivets put back, but you can use steel rivnuts which are a kind of rivet with a thread. once you install these you can use bolts. The torque on all the bolts should be tightened up the same when re-assembling the panel as they act critically in a side impact. I will buy some rivnuts and do a video on these as they can easily convert the panel and you don't need any special tools.
@@HatBoyHarvey I have a problem, on a new window regulator, wheel is blocked, I can not turn it manualy to adjust it with the two holes on the door panel for the fasteners that tights the window. What sould I do? This is all new. Should I mount an electric motor and try to lift it?
Is there a set torque wrench setting for regulators glass clamps please ? I snugged them up gently what felt correct by feel then with torque wrench set to 3 to 3.5nm snugged a touch more it's seems fine and I know toughened glass between rubbers in clamps can take more pressure than people realise as I fit many shower screens in such brackets but just had trouble finding correct torque setting for these particular clamps .. Thanks for any help 👍
The torque setting I found was 10Nm. (In description) But as you describe and IMHO it's best to do it by feel as you say. I did find 10Nm OK and may have gone over a tad with no problems :-)
Brilliant Video as always. My NSF window is jammed down and I need to replace the regulator. I see you replaced the whole panel/reg. Was it a Genuine part or an aftermarket panel/reg you used?
Thanks, I've updated the links to some parts in the description. Hope this helps. OEM are the way to go if you have the money, but they will be considerably more than other suppliers.
Great video, can the cable / figure of 8 run out of travel/cause damage if it gets to the end and doesn't stop (after re-assembly) or is it fairly fool proof in this respect ?
They don't like damp wet conditions. The control switches wear out over time, especially the drivers side so be sure to check that out first. If the battery voltage fall too low they wont work. The cables from the A pillar are suspect to breaks and the connections may cause a fault as too the actual motor. Start with the easy stuff first :-)
I did this without disconnecting the wiring and door lock mechanism from the car, and it was horrible. In the end, getting the door lock button into the panel was the biggest pain, and it broke the plastic holding the door lock pull to the door lock mechanism. Now the door lock button doesn’t pop in and out (though the lock works fine) and I have to do this all over again. Btw the panel is riveted in my car. Too bad your video hadn’t been available then :(
The lock indicators are a pain to put back as they are fiddly to insert. The tops are just a little short to hold in position as you hook the door panel back over the top lip and I found I had to bend the panel a bit.
@@HatBoyHarvey well I’ll eventually do it the way you’ve shown because I want to sell the car but without this defect. I want another option for replacing the rivet nuts I used though. That was hard too. Will be happy to be rid of this car hopefully. Then I want to try living without one - blasphemy, I know!
I was going to investigate an alternative to the rivets issue. There are riveted thread inserts you can buy that once installed enable you to use a bolt, as i already have bolts there is little need yet until I buy another fabia. Modern cars are harder to fix with all the electronic module and sensor stuff. Most of the time faults are just a sensor going awry :-)
I like all your videos, you really do a great job and help lots of people, however, you didn't show how you mounted the repair regulator kit on this video.... By the way, you don't have to remove the door lock nor all the wires to fix or replace the regulator kit system.
Thanks, glad you like them. I'm sure that it can be done that way, but this was just my way of doing it. The panel is attached to the lock with a delicate clip, I think it is best to remove it with the lock. I didn't need a new regulator so just showed how the mechanism was attached. yes I could have drilled out the rivets and re-riveted it, maybe I'll show riveting sometime (very easy really). You can get either the mechanism cable system on its own as you say 'regulator kit' or fixed with a carrier.
Hi! Great video! Do you have the answer to a issue that i have? With the front door window button, i had a battery failor, so the car went without power and after my driver side electric window doesn't work properly, it is 2 modes, it should go all the way down or up in one of the modes, and it doesn't, the other mode works..
Thanks. You have to reset the windows for the second function: close the window fully and hold the button up for a further few seconds - you may hear a click - done. This will occur when you disconnect the battery :-)
Thank you for this video. I’m stuck with the window bit as it is all the way down instead of up and can’t get to the bolts behind the regulator. Any help??
I would try raising it by taking off the motor separate the cog and find something to turn it with and at the same time use a stiff bent wire through the holes and hook the clamps pulling upward.
@@HatBoyHarvey I’ve managed to pull the window up using double tape, some cardboard and a big knife 😂😂 I’m going to follow the rest of the video tomorrow and try to get the regulator fixed!
Great video but I have a slight problem. My window is stuck in a way that I can't get it in the position where I can reach the bolts that are holding it. What should I do? Thanks.
@@HatBoyHarvey thanks for replying. A friend and I were able to use some muscle power to force it up, maybe not something to recommend but it worked for us! 😆
Hi Harvey another Great Video! I have a question please? My drivers side electric window has gone down but wont now go up. There is power to the switch, it makes a crunching noise now. What do you think the problem is please. It was working normally then suddenly went as I lowered it! No previous issues either. Do I need to get the glass back up inorder to access those clamp bolts ? How do I get the window back up if its all the way down in the door to remove the glass? Any advice much appreciated . Cheers and Best
Thanks. Window regulator cables have come loose/broken etc and are wrapped around the motor gear in the centre of the panel. Yes you need to move the glass up to undo the clamps. You can detach the motor and wind it by hand/screwdriver/tool to get the window up enough to take it out. sometimes just pulling on the glass can dislodge/move it. Once out it becomes far easier a job, good luck my friend, let me know how you get on :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Cheers Harvey! Thats much appreciated! I'll let you know how it goes! What can I use to re rivet anything? Pop rivet gun or are those rivets too small? Im hoping mine has nuts! Cheers!
@@ALXABABYCASHMERE depends on the year and location. Early models like mine should all have them, but no worried use RIVNUTS to re-assemble, I do a video on those when I get around to it. You don't need a rivet gun to installed these either.
Hello HatboyHarvey. I am about to replace the window regulator mechanism of my Skoda Fabia MK1 (99-07) and have noticed that the door lock mechanism's rubber extension lip has torn away from the lock mechanism itself; I have ordered a new door lock mechanism and wondered if it came with a new rubber lip attached? Finally, does the presence of the rubber lip matter at all or could the lock be used without it? Thanking you in advance...
I'm not sure what you mean about a 'rubber lip' on the door lock mechanism. maybe upload a little vid on your UA-cam page as I am not sure about what this is. If you mean the rubber/plastic mount on the lock barrel against the door body then this needs to be in place as it fits under 2 lips on the backing plate and cushions the lock barrel against the paint. If yours is gnarled up then take one of the rear doors :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey - yes, it's exactly what you are describing - the "rubber plastic mount on the lock barrel against the door body." Isn't it possible to buy these parts; mine has now got torn off...
@@HatBoyHarvey - it's so frustrating not to have it included with the new lock mechanism I just ordered. Yes, I was thinking of a scrap yard too. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion/s and advice...
Great videos, my mk 1 Fabia has 2 electric windows, last year the drivers kept coming back down wen it reached the top, it has been ok all year maybe it was cold weather, but the last few weeks it happened again, but now both windows have stopped working from both switches drivers side and the passenger side, there’s no clicking noise or any motor sound, basically dead as a dodo, any idea on the first scenario? Many thanks
Thanks. I've had this happen to me when it was really damp weather and my rear foot-wells were damp . My windows opened for no reason and wouldn't close - I was parking up in a city to go shopping and didn't want to leave it unlocked with open windows. Eventually it came too, closed and locked. It continued to play up for 2 days until the weather changed and I drove the car on a long journey. I put it down to possible moisture on contacts in the switch or elsewhere. I did replace the drivers side switch soon after as it stopped working. Hope this helps. :-) Also if the window auto opens for safety if something jambs it like a hand so check the guides for a blockage.
@@HatBoyHarvey I have same problem now. Both sides doesn't work. Maybe I should buy new motor window ( only driver side ) or I need to buy new switches first ? What you think ?
@HatBoyHarvey Can the electric window converted to manual, just to install a winder handle instead of motor? And obviously "modify" the door card? Many thanks
Godd question - There is no spindle so you would need that from a manual window regulator, I would fit the whole manual regulator panel and then door cards from a manual with the handle mech in the right place, only then can you simply fit a handle - good luck :-)
Yes, take the lock barrel out. If your door has rivets then you can use rivnuts and bolts; the panel must be firm, if your talking about the regulator then that needs to be firm too.
Unfortunately these are a pain to do if you haven't a suitable rivet gun large enough for the job, but don't let that put you off. Do have a look into the 'rivnut' option as this will turn the panel into a bolt-on panel.
Your channel is really useful! Both front regulator-motors have died in my Fabia. Is it possible to replace the motors without taking the whole panel off?
@@HatBoyHarvey oohh yeah i had to do that...in 3 hours it was fixed...ive found the parts at scrap yard...donnor car...thank you so much for your guiding video...amazing
They are a bit tricky and need a combination of patience and firm waggle and jolt. Don't get angry and break it, but try taking just one corner clip out at a time. I find these difficult also. Squeeze it by each clip a bit if possible to release it. A controlled squeeze and yank is my technique! Hope this helps:-)
Start by checking fuses, then the function of the switch first, if it is has intermittent fault or not. Then I would look at the connection by the A pillar for frayed wires and connection issues, then if you can test for voltage at the connection. If still no luck then take the panel off and repeat testing of the connections and the motor control unit. Also make sure the window slides in the channel smoothly and isn't stuck or jammed.
Yes, it is possible to do that, but it is much easier to take the whole panel off with the lock as you can break the bracket that holds the lock and maybe the lock body if you yank at it. This I found out the first time I took the panel off as my bracket is broken :-)
Hi, both the electric windows of my skoda fabia mk1 have stopped working for a while. When I press the button nothing happens at all. The window only works if I unplug the door connector and plug it back in. But this only works until I take the key out. The motor itself works if I connect it separately to a 12v battery. The strange thing is that the window now and then suddenly works when the sun has been on it. But this isn't always the case either. Is it wise to replace the motor module or is it another problem? Thanks! Oh and I also changed the switch on the drivers side but this made no difference
I would also examine the wires for fraying. Have a play with the connector and switch whilst activating the switch to see if it is a connection issue. You could also test for power at the motor end connected and the resistance of the wires end to end to locate either low power or high resistance respectively. Good battery and ground.

Thanks Jeff, that means a lot, only too glad to help other guys fix stuff. It gives me great pleasure :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey thank you so much! Didn't know those things existed ;)
This video has been my bible during all the past week. You just saved me a lot of money and my old Skoda Fabia 2001 from a lot of rain. Thank you myterious hooded man
you're very welcome, glad to have helped, pink hooded man :-)
5:48 I haven´t bothered removing the glass.
Great, glad the video was of some help. These are an often too-commen item to fail on many cars, hopefully newer designs have learnt from old!?
You are very welcome, thanks, It is good to know I got the details covered to be helpful. It is great to be able to fix the car yourself, yes :-)
Thank you for sharing your experience with all on the channel. Good to here you have mastered this fix 👍 :-)
This video helped me and my friend fix his car. The plastic clip that attaches to the glass holder is what broke in his case. Thank you very much!
These can be a little delicate in their complexity. So glad my video helped you both fix the car :-)

Thanks. You're very welcome, glad you found my video helpful :-)
A very helpful video, thanks to it I was able to solve this problem in my Skoda. I thought I could do it alone, but without this vid it would be realy difficult. I had a window stuck in the door, so I had to drill the rivets to set it free but the rest of your advice has been invaluable ;)
Thanks, appreciated, glad it helped you out :-)
Probably the best video for this (window regulator replacement). Thank you very much !

Superb video, lots information and shown very well. Hope to see more of those. you're doing great job. Thanks
Fantastic video. Changed the window regulator yesterday with no issues. Thanks
You're welcome, glad it helped.
Thanks once again for a great video, the locking mechanism on mine has caused me grief when trying to do this job. I had to cut the wires essentially, and then re-sodder them on when installing the new plate. The connector onto my locking mechanism is impossible to get out, and also the screws where jammed and i didnt want to destroy it furthere by trying to drill them out or tapping them with a oversized t-45 :(
Thanks, sounds like that door has been in the wars! Perhaps you could use some electrical contact spray to see if that will free up the connector.
thank you for this series of Fabia, thank you heaps. keep it up, we all be watching!
Thanks, that is great to hear, keeps me going :-)
Thanks for the demo was really helpful only for you i would never have tried it changed the regulator successfully keep up the good work much appreciated
Great to hear that, thanks for the appreciation, it makes helping others all worthwhile :-)
Thanks, good to share those points :-)
Beautiful and clean work. This is the first video, so beautifully done for FABIA 1. Greetings from the Czech Republic

@@HatBoyHarvey It's different. I myself like to use the Czechia. But the Czech Republic is used quite often. Sorry for my English, I translate via google. I'm still happy to watch Kevin-Albert Williams. He's great too. You are both great.

Oh man.. where was this video bout a year ago.. I gave it a go on my own but I had the entire panel riveted so I took it to a mechanic. Love your vids btw. Keep'em comming

@@HatBoyHarvey have you done that video yet as I've been told I could take all the rivets out and replace them with self tapping screws?

Great, glad to hear that my video helped :-)
Thank you again. I could not achieve the finger sensitivity to chose window parcial opening/closing or full automatic opening/closing. So I put a little piece of electrician tape in the electronic pcb contacts that do the automatic thing. Problem solved. Now it does what I say to do :)
Thank you for sharing that, maybe I will try this. I'm not sure exactly where you mean, do you mean directly under the micro switch?

Great informative video. Very helpful and clear instructions. 👍
You're very welcome, glad it was of some help :-)
Thanks for the video! I have followed it too many times, now I don"t have to open it in UA-cam. :D
If I may, I would add an additional step to make the glass positioning during the assembly easier:
You hold your right little finger on that black plastic part at 05:03.
Thanks, glad the video helped, thanks for sharing the info, maybe good idea, I'll try it next time :-)
Nice and very useful video.
Thanks, It doesn't always go to plan whatever you do, but hopefully you are up and running now with a new working mechanism etc :-)

It is worth doing IMHO, but you can't do it in a rush. Use steel Rivnuts not alloy. My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out.

@@HatBoyHarvey Thank you,
I will see about having a go with your expert guidance in your informative well made videos .
Thank you
My power windows behave very strangely: it works fine during the summer but when autumn comes they stop working.
Great work.. 👍
Thanks ✌️

My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out:-)
@@HatBoyHarvey thank jou very mach. :)
Hi mate I have ordered a new door actuator and the new panel today the only thing I have left to order is the rivnuts what size rivnuts are needed
My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. , use steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out.
Should I apply some sealing paste on the edges of the frame when I put it back on the door?
Absolutely,, you definitely need to do this to stop the ingress of water which helps preserve the electrical system :-)

Hi my electric windows keeps stopping from working!! Do ya know why! Was working then stops
They don't like damp wet conditions. The control switches wear out over time, especially the drivers side so be sure to check that out first. If the battery voltage fall too low they wont work. The cables from the A pillar are suspect to breaks and the connections may cause a fault as too the actual motor. Start with the easy stuff first :-)
HatBoyHarvey Windows went down then up then Down! Turned off and now won’t work!! Tried door connector! Disconnected battery for 2 mins and no joy!!
Make a video on how to build the window regulatr repair kit

@@HatBoyHarvey thank you very much! You rock!
Thank you for this video. I’m stuck with the window bit as it is all the way down instead of up and can’t get to the bolts behind the regulator. Any help??

I could only get one from czechia or main dealer. I swapped mine for one on the rear. You could get one off a car from a scrap yard though.
@HatBoyHarvey
Can the electric window converted to manual, just to install a winder handle instead of motor? And obviously "modify" the door card?
Many thanks
Godd question - There is no spindle so you would need that from a manual window regulator, I would fit the whole manual regulator panel and then door cards from a manual with the handle mech in the right place, only then can you simply fit a handle - good luck :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey many thanks
Hey mate do I have to take the lock barrel out? And could I use small self tappers instead of rivets
Yes, take the lock barrel out. If your door has rivets then you can use rivnuts and bolts; the panel must be firm, if your talking about the regulator then that needs to be firm too.
@@HatBoyHarvey Okay thanks mates it has rivets but i dont have a rivet gun toi put it back on so wondered what other option there were.
Thank you, Yes the motor unit is held in place by 3 screw bolts :-)
Do you think is any chance to fix it more easy way...like an diy...or...any other easy and cheap??
You will likely need to take the whole panel off, not an easy fix, but worth it in the end. None of the bits are expensive and easily available :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey oohh yeah i had to do that...in 3 hours it was fixed...ive found the parts at scrap yard...donnor car...thank you so much for your guiding video...amazing
Hi Harvey, would you happen to have a note of the part number of the motor that you took off in this video?
Best to take the part number off the one attached to your car as these differ between years and LHD/RHD or order new for your specific year/model.
I’m struggling with the white plug where the door hinges are it will not release
Can anyone give me a part number for a front driver side window motor for a 2004 fabia vrs can't seem to find to find anything.
What do you have to do when there might be a problem with the wiring?
Start by checking fuses, then the function of the switch first, if it is has intermittent fault or not. Then I would look at the connection by the A pillar for frayed wires and connection issues, then if you can test for voltage at the connection. If still no luck then take the panel off and repeat testing of the connections and the motor control unit. Also make sure the window slides in the channel smoothly and isn't stuck or jammed.
Do you have to take the door lock mechanism out or can you leave that in and unplug the loom from that side?
@@HatBoyHarvey thanks, I will try that!
