After having suffered primarily OCD symptoms for most of my late teens early 20s, to go on to actually having bipolar that was reallly driving it further and finally getting it to calm down by getting treated. Those symptoms of OCD..I feel many in the public don't appreciate the enormity of the suffering and disability in ocd. I also don't feel many psychiatrists appreciate it. I feel in my opinion erp wouldn't save everybody with this affliction, some kind of medical intervention often is needed. In my opinion in the top 5 worst mental illnesses there are close to bipolar episodes
Hi Dr. Goertz. Great video. Really appreciate you discussing the topic of ocd. Wanted to make a suggestion for a future video, would love to hear your thoughts on naturalpathtic medicine and naturalpathic doctors. I’ve heard of clinical studies showing things such as saffron have showed identical effects to Prozac. Curious to your perspective on this.
Dr. Goertz, I thought your take on certainty was well-said. As a person with OCD I do struggle with the idea of uncertainty and giving up control. My obsession is the heart/health and the compulsion is pulse checking via smart watch and carotid. I believe if I don’t check it will seriously harm me, but it really is that uncertainty about it all. One of my takes is that OCD is very distracting, and almost seems to be the mind’s effort at avoidance. Thanks for the video.
obviously i’m not doctor goertz but in my opinion the profound levels of stress in the most extreme of cases can exacerbate or cause psychosis, would love the docs opinion on this.
Thank you for this question. I had never thought of it. I agree that severe stress, including stress from OCD, conceivably could cause psychosis. Also, sometimes obsessions can reach a delusional level. Peter Goertz
surgery or lobotomies even though rare as in only one or two people might have it today i find this uncomfortable when more knowledge is understood about the body and mind.

Thank you Michael, and thank you for your suggestion.
Possibly similar in efficacy to prozac for depression
Unlikely to be effective in treating psychotic/dissociative symptoms

But how to be in the moment? Thank you for your vid
Thank you. Yes, “being in the moment” is easy to say, but often not easy to do. This may be a topic for another video. Peter Goertz
