    Very helpful to send to new archers, although I would recommend shooting more than 1 arrow per pin, just incase it was bad grip, stance, anchor points etc.

      I agree! Shoot groups just like sighting in a rifle to eliminate variables.

    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

    For begginer it is recomendable to shoot atleast three arrows before adjusting. Because of the human error. If your arrows go all around the place you know it is your incosistent shooting. And that way you cannot adjust sight. You have to have consistent group.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:14 🏹 Pin adjustments on a compound bow can be found on the side and top, with each pin representing a specific yardage.
    01:15 🔧 Use an Allen wrench to adjust the pins' positioning on the sight to correct your aim both vertically and horizontally.
    02:35 🎯 When sighting in your bow, start with shorter distances like 20 yards and gradually move to longer distances like 60 yards.
    03:37 🏞️ Ensure proper bow mechanics and a stable shooting environment to minimize variables when sighting in your bow.
    03:51 🎥 Subscribe for more bow tips, hunting, fishing, and DIY projects related to outdoor activities.

    I need one of those hook releases you have. I've been letting my beard grow out a little, and with the "double toothed" release I have, it takes a few hairs with it every time I release lol. If I keep going, I'm hoping my awesome shooting skills will outshine the fact that I have a bald patch on the side of my face.

    Thanks for the video... I have to ask, however: Shoulden't sight calibration be done using an eye-level target? Otherwise you are adjusting your elevation for only low targets (ie... your yardage/elevation adjustments are not parallel to the surface of the earth and perpendicular to gravity force)???

    If someone can’t sight in their bow after watchin it video, then they need to stick with guns lol very very understandable and easy to follow. I came across this video while lookin for review for the IQ retina lock sights. I just put one on my Bowtech I have a tendency to torque my hand when I shoot long distances and when tat big MUEY GRANDE walks out lol and this is supposed to help aid, idk I’ll see lol Have u ever used the retina lock sights? Do you have a video on “fine” sightin?
    Also man my local shop hooked me up with some WAXLESS(yes waxless) strings/cables. And lemme tell ya sumpin boss man, from now on, every bow I buy (he has my other 3 right now too puttin them on lol) as soon as I walk out the door wherever I bought the bow I will be headin straight to the shop and puttin them string on it. They are quieter, durable, no maintenance, and I don’t have string suppressors either and I don’t need any! I think it may be quicker with them too lol and tax,tator, out the door was only 163.47$ included new Peep, d-loop, paper tunes, and labor all for 163$. It’s work lookin into my fellow hunters seriously

    I got an SAS Siege compound bow just today, not a bad bow for the price either, it just came with a pretty cheap sight. hell I can hardly work the sight on it but I'm getting an idea from this video, maybe I'll be able to start practicing soon

    • @TheSticksBrand
      @TheSticksBrand  7 років тому

      Nice! Yeah, just make sure when you're setting the sight and the pins, you're following where your shot goes. If you shoot down and to the right, move the housing down and to the right. It'll take a few shots until you get it but hey, that just means more practice!

    Thinking that much like I'd sight a rifle scope, you'd want a group of 3 or so and then make a change - one shot is not much a group. You could be adjusting sights for a random bad shot. You'll be chasing that sight center all day.

    What is the ideal yardage for hunting and setting a 5 pin site?

    • @TheSticksBrand
      @TheSticksBrand  7 років тому

      As a beginner (and even to this day) I set mine at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60.. I haven't been practicing enough to go beyond 60 with my pins yet, but most shots you would take for a first time bow hunter would be between 20-40 yds is my guess. And that definitely depends on whether you plan on hunting out of a tree stand or doing spot and stalk. Although my pins are at 60 yds, I am still able to hit 70 somewhat accurately by gauging it and feeling/knowing the difference in a 10 yard alignment at that distance

    I think you left out a very important step . Once you mounted the sight ,how far up and down should the pin housing ring be ? Where is a good starting point ?
    The most important thing to know is how high the bottom of the pin ring is above the arrow . If you are using a drop away rest you need to make sure the rest is all the way up and with the arrow on it measure how high your fleshing are above the top of the arrow and you need to know the height of the broad head you are going to use .
    Knowing this height will let you know your limit the ring can be set at . If you just put the bottom of the ring to the height of the fletching and you are using field tips when you put a broad head on that might be higher than the fletching if the tip of your arrow is before the sight when you go to shoot the arrow you might cause some real damage if the broad head hits the sight and the arrow goes straight down to your leg and cut a vain then you are in big trouble .
    Make sure the bottom of your ring has at least 1/2 an inch of clearance from the top of the broad head you plain to use . Once you mark that distance on your adjustment markings make sure you don’t go below that mark for any reason . Mark it in red or with a tape .
    The next thing to do is to adjust your top pin so there is a little space above the top pin, don’t set it all the way to the top . The reason is if you want to make slight adjustment to the close pin you don’t have to move the ring housing and change all the other pin settings . Or when you add a broadhead you might have to raise or lower the pin ,not the ring housing or you might want to add a 15 or 10 yard pin . I use my 10 yard pin all the time for rabbits and squirrels.
    When you start shooting and you see you have to raise up the first pin to hit the target don’t raise the pin, be sure to raise up the sight ring housing . This will give you the best location of the sight ring .
    The older I get the lower in poundage I shoot . So having the bottom of the sight ring at its lowers safest place helps me get the longest shot possible and still be able to use a pin . With a lower poundage bow the more space you are going to use in the ring and the bigger the spacing of the pins are going to be . So with a lower poundage bow the 60 yard pin might be at its lowest setting so I tend to set the sight ring as low as I can safely. .

    If you change your poundage will that put your sight out?

    I just got sight with all of the pins at the bottom of the sight, do I just arbitrarily set those pins and then start the sighting processes?

      If you have access to a pro shop, they'll have a small range you can shoot at. It's a very controlled environment and if you miss, no big deal, because the whole wall is basically a target. So, to answer your question, yes. lol

    Can you use the stabilizer as a rest while sighting a bow in or will that damage it?

      Should be fine... just don't put weight or pressure on it I'd guess.

    K so you are shooting low rt you move pin down that makes sence now for the right if you move your sight left that moves your aiming point left , right ?

      I'm sorry, I didn't make it very clear in the video! If you shoot low and to the right, you want to move your sights low and to the right. Because when the sights are lined up more to the right, it will naturally make the bow point more to the left... if that makes better sense. Bottom line is to follow your shot when adjusting your sight

      The Sticks Outfitter , so , since this video I continued watching other videos of yours!
      And , it's making me scratch my head.
      I LOVE all the information you give ,
      Also appreciate all your great advice.
      But after you paper tune your bow,
      You then walk back tune your bow right?
      If this is right after you walk back tune , do you then recheck your paper tune to make sure you still are on center shot?
      Also , the next natural step would be to set it up for hunting.
      This would require broadhead tunning right?
      So in broadhead tunning you shoot a field point , then a broadhead.
      Then you move the rest ,
      Like let's say you, are low right.
      You want to raise the rest and move the rest Left? Right!
      But this is where I scratch my head
      Are you not then un tunning your bow to get the results you want and need to make a clean kill shot ! So in doing this do you want to then re paper tune after you get all set up for broadheads, to see if you are still on center shot. Also do you then need to walk back tune your bow again.
      Im just confused I guess why you would not just move your sight to make it hit what your shooting at with broadheads especially, after the walk back tunning with field point, you know your center shot is spot on . Any help would be much appreciated.
      Just wanting to expand what little knowledge, I do have ; I'm. Planning a mule deer hunt this year and am dead on out to 100 yrds , I know I can hit what I want where I want , with field tips , but want to have at the very least an 80 yrds shot in my arsenal, if need be that the only reason I practice 100 yrds , and that 80yrds is for like the last day last hour,
      Other then that anything in side 50 would be Ideal.

    question: how do you reconcile your peep sight no longer covering the sighting pin housing? i don't know how much I can turn my bow to make up for the difference in alignment

    • @TheSticksBrand
      @TheSticksBrand  7 років тому

      so, your peep sight is not aligned with the housing? And you want to make it so you can see the housing when looking through the peep site?

    • @bodinian
      @bodinian 7 років тому

      Exactly, but my peep is large enough that it covered the housing when I lined up a shot. I increased the draw weight and shortly after increased the stiffness and weight of my arrows. That's when my shots started going 3 inches left of all my targets from 20 meters. When I adjusted my sight, the peep no longer covers the housing since it moved out of the way, and rotating the entire bow while maintaining 3 point contact is near impossible when I first tried to do it to line everything back up.

    • @TheSticksBrand
      @TheSticksBrand  7 років тому +1

      Interesting! So before you made all those adjustments, you were able to look through the peep sight and line it up with the housing.. In this case, since you've changed your arrows and draw weight. You'll want to adjust the rest as well. So try to find that happy medium where you adjust the housing to where you can see it through the peep sight, then from there, you'll want to adjust the rest. If you're missing left after tuning in the peep sight and housing, move the rest slightly to the right.

      I've never run into this problem before, but this seems to make the most sense so try it out and let me know what results you get! Also, what type of rest are you using? (whisker biscuit, drop-down, etc)
