    Back in the day, Hip Hop streetwear brands like Fubu, Rocawear, Mecca and a few others were high quality. Though I was never a fan of Fubu styling. Mecca is gone. Rocawear and Fubu is now bargain basement.

    • @NonLegitNation2

      was it high quality though, or did we just think it was because we didn't know any better. I was 14-16 yrs old around the time when they were popular (1999 - 2002ish) and I wore all of them but I was also a teen who bought all of my streetwear from TJ Maxx and didn't care about the quality as long as it had big visible logos for everyone to see, which is what all these brands were about.

    If they charged $7 or $10 more per shoe, do you think they could improve these shoes enough to make them a decent cheap shoe? $33 would still be very cheap for an adult pair of shoes, and an extra $10 per pair would surely let them make improvements and take away some of those compromises. Seems dumb to tank a brand when you could still be called good value and not put out an absolute disgrace of a product.

  • @hermitgreenn

      Still better than the Nike. Low-income family's aka 1/3 of the US population still buy Nikes. Because marketing. The Nike is not worth 5x the cost. 10x the cost on sale. Not even close.

      @dizzle1119 День тому

      @@TimJohnson-x1o You can buy a pair of Nikes on clearance for $49 that your kid can wear through the whole school year.
      Let's see how far into the school year your kid gets in a pair of Walmart Fubus. A month. Maybe a month and a half. They'll be falling apart. They'll have holes through the outsoles by that time anyway, so it won't matter that they are falling apart.
      Sometimes people are just wrong. This is one of those times for you.

      @@TimJohnson-x1o Grown adults need quality footwear, too. Especially for work, where you're on your feet for hours on end. There's no reason to purchase what is essentially disposable footwear. There are too many websites out there with closeout/liquidation pricing. There are too many stores like Ross/Marshalls/Gabriel Bros.
      In the long run you're spending less money if you buy a pair of $50 Nikes rather than some $23 Walmart FUBUS. The Nikes will outlast them 3 or 4 to 1. I'm not saying Nikes are made to the highest standards possible either, because they aren't. ...but Nike's worst model is lightyears beyond these FUBUs.
      You really don't have to spend $100+ to get a decent pair of shoes. There are many places that have Nikes/Adidas/Reebok/Asics/etc for $40 - $50.
      ...but, yeah...sending a child to school in these FUBUs will cause that child to be ridiculed and mocked at school. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

    If I remember the podcast correctly FUBU started by him selling bandanas on the street corner in NYC. I think Conan O’Brien bought one once during his early days and then he used the space in his grandmothers house in Brooklyn or somewhere to make things like pants and shirts and would sneak them into trade shows to get attention. I think his first huge contract was with some department store and it grew from there. Really interesting how much he hustled in the early days of FUBU

    • @ShadeSlayer1911
      @ShadeSlayer1911 3 дні тому +6

      Sadly, it's because a lot of women accept it and buy the cheap poorly made stuff. Ultimately, you get what you reward, and if you buy the cheap crap, you're telling the market that you like it, no matter how much you say you don't.

    • @JessicaFEREM

      I would love for this channel or a similar one to cover women's shoes. It can be very hard to find quality boots and the like for women. When I went shopping with my first girlfriend years ago, I was appalled by the hideous quality of the clothes marketed to women, but especially the shoes. Some of them were fairly expensive but only lasted a handful of wears before the heel collapsed or fell off. Completely ridiculous. My gf was always in pain from them so I told her I appreciated her wanting to dress up when we went out but I would prefer her to be comfortable.

      In marketing, we call that "ethnic marketing", where a brand/company is specifically targeting certain ethnic groups to buy their products. FUBU started off like that, primarily targeting African Americans. For Damien's credit, it worked out for him. He sold the company for $200 million. FUBU was good quality back then, key phrase here is "back then". They are nothing like what they were back then and are now low quality waste. Same with And1 and Rocawear.

    I remember growing up in the 90's wearing low quality shoes like this, in a country that was barely out of the communisms. it's true, not a lot of people could afford much back in the days. but still brands like nike, adidas or reebok were coming on the market. my mother used to buy me cheap sneakers, which would break in less than 3 days and she blamed me for not knowing how to take care of them. she was looking at sneakers that were "stitched" but it was always these kind of shoes. i ended up walking with them torn or with holes in them, but also after a couple o months buying another cheap shoe.
    I think these type of shoes should be forbidden to produce or sell. You actually end up paying more and help consumerism. also your self esteem as a kid will suffer. I ended up having a collection of sneakers now, just because when I was a kid this thing stuck to me.

    FUBU was started partially as an outrage response to a comment made by an official of one of the "top tier" shoe brands at the time that they did not design their shoes for (insert derogatory term for low income minority group), even though they were extremely popular amongst those minority group music artists at the time. Hence the brand name "For Us By Us". FUBU brand I don't think had ever promise quality over styling.... Therefore aside from being sold to Walmart, to criticize the brand's lacking quality is a bit unfair especially based on the basement pricing that Walmart is typically known for.

    Nike has a problem quantity over quality ! Just bought an air max 95 and the quality is atrocious and when they say jordans are flawed try other nike shoes ! I bought my 1st air max it was an air max 95 and it used to be the best shoes ! That pair lasted 10 years !

    put out a video of how you can diy your own affordable/cheap shoe or modify another cheap shoe to simply be better quality or comfort
    maybe either a sneaker or boot design or both

      find a local cobbler and go talk to them. making your own shoe wont be easy or practical. and spending money on a cheaper shoe to try and make it better prob isnt worth it either. if you buy a honda civic and think you can just upgrade it to have the power and handling of a ferrari you will spend more than just buying a ferrari and have even more headaches. best is to save up some $$ and buy a quality shoe that can be repaired. actual leather, goodyear welted or something made to be resoled. you can find really good boots for around $200 that should last a long time and can be repaired to extend the life. im a big fan of buy once, cry once.

      @@turdferguson7686 bad analogy, those are sometimes called kit cars and you can actually have ferrari level power and look for far less but I do get your point
      200 boots just arent something im willing to pay for anymore unless I see the quality is worth it
      ive seen in recent years they are selling timberlands for 200 now. Theres no way im paying that for timberlands. they wont hold up either. i know that from experience

    It would be cool if you could get ahold of McDowell's pro sport 1's. They were a vegan version of the Jordan 1, but the construction and materials were pretty good for fake leather.
    EDIT: McDowell's do sell pro sport 1 laces... I'm bummed that Nike sued McDowell so that can't sell them
