I would say "No Effort" not "Low Effort". Case in point: they signed Caitlin Clark to huge contract over two years ago and still haven't created any shoes for her even with fans begging for her Basketball and (believe it or not) Golf shoes. She's still wearing Kobe's shoes to play in. This is just leaving money on the table...
I can only cop one oppressive brand and I chose to rock with adidas. I’m just not into giving Nike any more money than they need. They also flat out lied on Twitter about helping emerging Black businesses in 2020.
The comments are a good example of how people refuse to invest time in finding out what's going on (watch the video), they didn't learn a thing about Nike's missteps with Direct-to-Consumer, didn't comprehend the initial success with DTC followed by a drop in sales. What they do have to offer is an oversimplification of why Nike stock is down. If the prices being too high were the problem, Nike would have collapsed a long time ago.
LOL. Imagine choosing a video over what the people actually believe about a brand. The people that are commenting are potential Nike customers. At the end of the day sales is all about people. Actual people buy your stuff. If these people, the potential buyers, say that Nike's problem is their price and quality, then it is a problem. Just because it isn't addressed in the video doesn't mean it is not a problem
"Prices being too high isn't a problem" - the problem with this statement is that "high price" is actually a relative concept. If the quality is worth the money then people will still buy. Or the same amount can be considered affordable before the pandemic or not, after it

They turned into a fashion brand while brands like Hoka, Onn, and Brooks just made real shoes. I burn through running shoes and have never even consider Nike.
It’s easy. They wanted to cut the middleman “footlocker” out of their sales. So they pulled a lot of product. Footlocker started promoting the other brands like New Balance, Aasics, Hoka more. People kept going to footlocker and with less Nike stuff around they bought the other brands. Long story short, in one move Nike destroyed their own sales and boosted the profile and profits of brands the public wasn’t wearing.
@@djpaulcfunkeddub3951 weird, didn’t know anyone even went to footlocker anymore. Midwesterner here, so NY vibes only happen when I taste real pizza in Chicago 😂 j/k
Actually the break with footlocker was a sad accounting trick to try and hold up market cap, between no longer having to split purchase price with retailers, they could so an increasing revenue even with falling sales per model. At the same time they vomited out every model they could all at once to hide falling sales per model and kept inventory counts low by putting them in transit. Coupled with cutting workforce and buying lower cost (quality) materials hides profit growth slipping. All this so dumb money and trading algorithms would be duped into floating share price. In the 90s the basketball shoes were for basketball AND off the court. Bball and lifestyle shoes in one. Now they are so specific to the sport, that they don’t look good in casual wear anymore.
@CommanderWolffe-jh5lr Yes they do close enough to sell them for that price and Jordan is still connected with nike and his shoes are 200 something sometimes
Nike just did $23B in revenue in 2024 and yet are considered “struggling”. That’s corporate greed for you, at its finest. And we talk about problems in the US. Even if Nike revenue is down, it’s because their products are overpriced, low quality, and just not comfortable (their shoes specifically).
Exactly. Nike is OVERPRICED and their markup is too high for what you get. I haven't bought a Nike product since 2020 and wont be buying anything in the future. Lots of other great affordable brands out there!
Nike is struggling because their most popular shoes, like Air Max, Jordans, and Air Force 1s, came out over 30 years ago. They haven’t introduced any iconic styles in the last 25 years. Where are the fresh, new designs? Everything they release came out 30 years ago. Get the Havard college corp geeks outta the design room and get some real people with vision and design in those rooms. Your brand literally has not had a relevant new shoe in over 25 years. Think about that.
The flyknit racer was the BEST shoe I’ve ever owned in my entire life in 2016. Since then, they discontinued it and never returned it. I had the racer and the trainers and now there’s no substitute. The my new vapormax and airmaxes can’t even touch it comfort wise. In highschool 1/3 peopñe had the flyknit racers, and Nike just let it go for whatever reason.
Agree 100% Nike forgot that current does not sync with their iconic brands. Yougsters now don't even know what Jordan is? unless you're referring to the country
Selling the same shoe in 450 different colors is just dumb and makes the shoe look like not premium after a few years. Also, adding 7 swooshes per shoe makes Nike look tacky, tasteless and creativeless. Back in the 80s and 90s, you didn't even need a single swoosh to know it was a Nike design. It was just beautiful, unique, Nike.
Nike quality has gone down to the toilet whilst prices have risen way faster than inflation. Nike directors are 100% to blame for this, they thought they could offer a turd at gold prices but this is the reality, they're not the only game in town.
The style is awful. Those sneakers are something that very few people are willing to wear. Solid style without flashy colours and science-fi like desings are impossible to wear in style with a pair of jeans or chinos.
@@Justin-uc8sc If you're a regular buyer of their crew socks you know how much thinner they've gotten through the years. The socks are expensive on their own, and now we're working with thinner material which wears the socks down even faster when you use them for sports.

One day I went to two different Nike stores near Central Park, trying to buy a new pair of shoes. In both places, the staff was extremely rude and condescending. I stopped buying any Nike product afterwards.
Go to any US high school and you’ll see more Adidas, Hoka and On than ever before. Especially Adidas. When teens and young adults aren’t buying, you’ve got trouble.
I was a Nike person for 22 years without any issues. I used to joke that my feet were broken into them instead of the other way around because they were perfect from the get go. Come 2019, I had three pairs fail in that same year between quality issues and very poor fits so I gave up and switched to the Brooks Ghost and Adidas Ultraboost.
Adidas Ultraboost did not last long for me. That bubbly foam is great is the beginning, very jumpy but worn out very soon so I had issues with my feet, I thought it was a stress fracture, so much pain. Luckily all went away after shoes swap (how heavy cushioned Adidas Boston).
Do you really think Nike will hire American workers to make their shoes paying $20/hour when they pay workers overseas for $2 to $3 an hour with no benefits? Even On shoes, which is currently one of the most popular brands and Nike competitor, make their running shoes in Vietnam and China.
AS someone who's in a local run club, we don't use Nike. Nike won't do business with lower volume retailers (like local running stores). Hoka, Saucony, Asics Brooks, all will do business with smaller stores with no problem, and Saucony has some of the best shoes now.
@@mikethemechanic7395 for me they made their shoes too narrow now. I used to love them because they could have a wider size and fit my feet better. Now they are made for only particular type of feet.
Adidas as euro crap soccer shoes...BBall shoes have always sucked, Asics are just running shoes and NB also are just running shoes.....and ditto for Hoka
A combination of: 1) Poor quality relative to price 2) Least common denominator fit and support 3) No innovation in their affordable shoes 4) Got involved in politics they had no business getting involved in.
Not really. These "road men " also wear North Face which is still popular Nike is just too expensive for what it's actually worth example their shoes are £170 silly price for something that isn't even high quality or comfortable.
Mark Parker was originally a Shoe Designer and put focus on that part of the business. He was not focused on chasing revenue but chasing the best product. This enabled Nike to do well as people want the best product. Whenever MBA's become in charge, many times they just start trying to cut corners and save money to up margins. This lack of focus on the product shows and consumers stop buying the product. Its okay to want to make money-it is a business. But its where you put the focus.

Just magnify that thinking across all their product decisions and you can quickly see why the price no longer equals the quality to consumers.

The biggest things that I’ve noticed is a decline in their running shoes and soccer cleats. Companies like Hoka, ON, Puma, Adidas, and New Balance have been more dominant in those two companies.
Nike is struggling because their customers are fed up. Having to basically enter a lottery on a secondary app just for the opportunity to purchase a popular shoe at retail has grown old. Especially given that there is no legitimate shot at getting the shoe for retail and ending up having to pay 2 to 3 times retail for a shoe. Getting what they deserve. Loyal customers lead to a successful business not creating an artificial shortage that creates over inflated prices.
They treat their employees terribly, living in Portland I’ve heard so many horror stories. Tons of layoffs, quiet firing, moving people to roles they’re not qualified for just to let them go. They’re a marketing firm that sells shoes. Shareholders are their priority, not innovation or employees.
@@plmarciniak I love these stupid armchair CEOs who make the same argument all the time about workers being undervalued as though businesses like Adidas are treating workers better or not prioritizing shareholders. (they don't)
They're not struggling. This is all relative. They're still one of the highest grossing brands on the planet. Forever growth is a myth. Settling for smaller than projected profits is not failure and it's that mindset that leads companies like this to thinking they can cut quality costs and get away with it when they still charge $200 for a shoe
Quality sucks and quality control is all over the place. If people wanna pay $250 for shoes that’s their choice but they should at least be getting shoes that last a year comfortably and materials that reflect the cost.
As someone who use to buy only Nike, I’d say other brands caught up while Nike prices also are higher usually. I also buy in person over online and started running
As someone who does half marathons and marathons. I can tell people are stepping down from Nikes more and more when I see people rock Asics, HOKA or New Balance on their daily runs or race day.
I like alphaflys and vaporflys very much before. However Nike colors are white or easy-to-be-dirty color in recent years. I change to asics already though I sometimes window shopping at Nike 😂
Nike’s shoes are not as comfortable as it’s competitors. Their soles are too hard and the width is too narrow. Have you ever tried Air Force 1’s. They feel like bricks tied to your feet.
The same with them Jordans. Poor quality horrible cushion for a overprice sneaker. It about comfort quality and price. Until they make a shoe for the everyday human being not the celebrates.
Air force 1's and some Jordan's are retro styles, so Nike tries to keep the "feel" similar to when the shoes originally launched decades ago. Adidas does the same with Superstar and Stan Smith shoes
Don't compare Air Force 1 to shoes that you think are comfortable. These shoes are more like "retro" styles and obviously these are not designed for comfort. There are bunch of Nike shoes as well that feel comfortable and nicely cushioned. Hoka and On Running shoes are also there to if you want comfortable shoes.
They gave me a bunyon on the left side of my big toe lol I had to stop wearing them and now bunyon doesn’t hurt anymore even with my vans slides and addidas Nmd or Chelsea boots on
So true, all these retro sneakers that they are relying on like Jordans, Cortez, Dunks have 1980s cushioning in them. No one wants to spend 8 hours a day on a sole that has the cushioning of 5 pizza boxes glued together.
I bought 10 pairs of running shoes just this year in 2024 and not one of them was Nike. They lost me as a customer years ago, and I will never be coming back.
I just got a pair of new Asics gel kayano, the comfort and stability is on another level from other brands. I heard Hoka is also very good but the price is more higher in my country.
Asics Kayano is cheaper than Hoka Arahi. Hoka is wider and more expensive than Asics. I also recommend New Balance 860 and ASICs GT2000. Nike just doesn't fit my foot anymore.
There’s Hoka, Cloud, Altras, Clove, and now Flux shoes which have been my recent purchase and my to go to wear casual shoe everyday. 😅 I still will always buy Nike though. I am a sneaker head
On top of what everybody else said... Nike also decided it would be smart to get political and basically tell half the market they didn't want their business. People took them up on that.
Yes, thank you. I definitely haven’t forgotten Kapernick and their support of that loser taking a knee. It’s hilarious that this report mentioned nothing of “go woke, go broke”
The quality is not really different with its competitors but the price is way higher. Nike please, don't over estimate your brand, we have the same prestige wearing other brands also.
Here’s a component to consider: Nike built a lot of success on basketball and the NBA. Currently, the NBA is at all time lows in viewership and completely tanking in most markets. Might be a big factor why consumers don’t care when they barely care about the players who wear their shoes
Also your feet could've gotten fatter potentially! Lol But for though I feel you 100%. I felt the exact same thing when I ordered a pair online last year. I thought it may be my feet aging and getting flatter and fatter maybe but I'm pretty sure it's the shoe.
@@357twilson The Giannis, Luka, Booker, and Ja Morant pro shoes aren't even that expensive by today's standards (like $120-$140 and frequently go on sale) while LeBron and KD's are still all like $150-$200+. Giannis' shoe the year they won the championship was like $120 and was $100 less than the LeBrons that came out that year. Just like the NBA itself, they have a bunch of idiots in their marketing departments and they aren't able to get by as easy as they used to.
Chasing short term gains, exploiting foreign labor, narrow shoes, unending rerelease of shoes, ugly new designs, high mark ups, cheaper materials, the list goes on.

This, 100%. I legitimately just bought a pair of the New Balance 990v6 for $120 shipped ($100 discount for a shoe assembled in the US) like an hour ago.
This video wants to talk about everything except for the problem. The problem is their product is poor quality, uncomfortable, and overpriced. If they start to build shoes that hold up, are comfortable, and are fairly priced, the marketing will be effective. We already know about them quite well. It's the product not the marketing, Not the distribution method, not the telework.
Exactly, marketing can only take you so far, when you’re in a shoe store and try on other brands it’s immediately noticeable that Nikes aren’t up to par
All these large media companies will talk to 10's of experts and analysts, but won't find and ask even 1 person "Hey, why did you stop buying this brand?". MSM is mostly worthless.

@@AD-bb9npI doubt that made much difference. I never noticed any boycott in the real world after that ridiculous DM advertising sports bra embarrassment. The outrage over that stuff is mostly online. How many people actually, genuinely care that Nike makes a lot of their products in sweat shops in poor countries often using child labour? Very few in reality. Same goes for Nike being woke. Most people simply don't care....
I think I'm missing how "Innovation" plays a role when shoes like the Adidas Samba are killing it, and it's been around since 1949 and looks the same. Also, the New Balance 500 series has been around since the 90s also unchanged, and equally popular IMO. Why does Nike need a "new" shoe to compete? I believe as they said in the video, the story telling is lacking. They need some fresh eyes in that Marketing department.
They need another generational talent to be the catalyst for new innovation. They are still relying on old/retired athletes to push the brand for example Jordan brand, Kobe, Lebron, Tiger woods(left nike altogether), Serena Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo, etc. There's opportunity with some young athletes currrently but I think they really need to get back to storytelling through innovative shoes both materials and design. Go ahead and sign Arch Manning(phenom) who's in college now at a Nike sponsored school of University of Texas, and tell the story of a phenom since birth and create design and value about such a story.
Nike's quality control is crazy bad these days, and design wise Adidas showed much more creativity while Nike hasn't really showed anything good for a while.
Proud to say I haven’t bought a pair of Nikes since college (I’m 50 years old). That last pair, AND the pair i purchased before it, literally fell apart. The soles became unglued and fell off. Nike is all about flash. They make gaudy, ugly, overpriced shoes that are low in quality. Ever since that last college pair, I’ve become a loyal purchaser of Adidas and Puma, with the random pair of New Balance and Asics over the years. Nikes are for juveniles and followers.
My main issue with Nike other than that they have just been "athleisure" is that all their shoe sizes have almost always run narrow. After branching out to other brands for running and basketball which offer a wide size, I don't see myself ever going back
It's more like running or tapering low. This means your toes touch the inner roof of the shoe. That has a similar effect to being narrow. They do this for the aesthetics. A good example is the Book 1 shoes. There's some exceptions however, such as the P6000 'Dad' shoe, which is a reissue of the Pegasus of the year 2006. These shoes tend to run wide and high on the toe box.
Why do they keep hiring old CEOs instead of somebody younger that knows the shoes and the culture? I can’t imagine Nike falling behind the way I be buying their stuff and the Jordan releases
There not struggling, there still making billions a year they just cant seem to figure out how to add another billion to there earnings. What more do they want?
I stopped buying Nike products about 10 years ago, and honestly, I haven’t looked back. At my gym, I’ve noticed that most of the younger generation is wearing GymShark or other social media-driven brands-Nike isn’t dominating like it used to. For running shoes, I’ve switched to ON, and I don’t miss Nike at all. It feels like only a matter of time before the competition not only catches up but surpasses Nike.
I see more people wearing Under Amour and Gym Shark at the gym now. Nike has fallen out of favor with the average gym user. Women gravitate towards Lulu paying more for the brand and comfort.
Caitlin Clark ignored, no support whatsoever. Nike was silence when she won Rookie of the Year. Her fans were willing and able to buy Caitlin Clark products, but Nike had NOTHING to offer and nothing in the works. Mishandled one of the potentially greatest athlete of out time.
Damn right I heard from LeBron who is probably the least favorite athlete right now, but Caitlyn is a actual disruptor! Not a 40 year old balding man. At this point LBJ is so old you might as well use Michael Jordan again.
Nike took an early lead with innovative foams (like React and ZoomX) in its running shoes but stopped innovating with the times and relied on its decades old formula of endorsements carrying the demand for its products. The result is Asics and New Balance releasing far better shoes at every price point than Nike, often undercutting despite offering better quality, all the while Nike is busy spamming off Kipchoge. Even adidas is releasing better performance sneakers than Nike.
Why is Nike struggling?????? The answer is simple; prices goes up - quality goes down!!!!!! Toooooo much recyclable/plastic materials!!!!!!!! We are not stupid!
nike used to make what people wanted. now they just make what investors wants to sell. give back the cushy shoes that are lasting. what people want are soft on feet but stable. lot of people want to look good so minimize the logo size.
Please reconsider your pricing strategy. I would rather miss out on a new Nike release than pay $200 at launch, only to see the price drop by half just a couple of months later. The current pricing trend has become excessive and is frustrating for loyal customers.
I vowed not to purchase Nike again once they started taking social stances but ignore the fact that they sell overpriced shoes made under harsh labor conditions to those same people they stand for.
Nike products have been such low / poor / frankly garbage quality for soooo many years now, the customers have purchased elsewhere. Its a steep climb to get them back.
The past 5-10 years, yeah. It's become garbage. Shirts shrink drastically, shoes fall apart in 2 months, sweat pants are $100. They chose fast profits over quality. A lot of companies ruin their business this way.

Imagine Nike begging to come back. It’ll cost them. The retailers want their cut.
Footlocker has the temperature of the streets of NYC, dumb move
Well said
Nike is struggling because their most popular shoes, like Air Max, Jordans, and Air Force 1s, came out over 30 years ago.
I hear Alyssa Heinerscheid is looking for work!?
You're talking facts. Probably released FIVE iconic shoes since 2003. They are just selling us recycled shoes from the 80s and 90s
You forgot about roshe run
Let's not forget Nike allow scalpers to buy shoes online for resale where real customers couldn't get the shoes they wanted
Quality & Style went down while Prices went up!
What do you mean by quality? Could you explain what quality is lacking in their clothing, for example?
The style is awful. Those sneakers are something that very few people are willing to wear. Solid style without flashy colours and science-fi like desings are impossible to wear in style with a pair of jeans or chinos.

Yes! And selling out their drops to resellers. They let it happen to force us online.

@@Bpf33Sketchers and Puma all the way.
You thought buying overpriced, overhyped shoes at product launch made you original?
Hoka is going to put them out of business. Most comfortable shoes ever
their designs and quality bro, period.
They LITERALLY SOLD THEIR SOUL WITH LeBronda & Kapernick 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed
Political sides cuts half your buying base.
Shoes cost $5 to make and Nike selling for 20x times, ppl had enough. I haven’t got anything Nike is a long time.
@@ClownMoney 60x !!!
I googled this recently and they claim they only make 10 to 12 dollars profit on a shoe.
That’s only $100, Nike/Jordans sells for $160 to $230 now
There are also people who boycott Nike after the Nike Oregon Project scandal. Mind you, that's been a long time coming.
They haven't innovated in a long time. Their quality of product has dropped a little. But their prices have shot up dramatically. You do the math.
They did drop new political beliefs. They just aren't selling well.
@@AD-bb9npI doubt that made much difference. I never noticed any boycott in the real world after that ridiculous DM advertising sports bra embarrassment. The outrage over that stuff is mostly online. Most people in the real world have no idea or simply don't care. How many people actually, genuinely care that Nike makes a lot of their products in sweat shops in poor countries often using child labour? Very few in reality. Same goes for Nike being woke. Most people simply don't care....
Lack of innovation is key. Only Nikes i still buy are retro models from the 90s and early 2000s. They dont have the minds to create innovative looks.
Ironic how the point is innovatio yet we still buy retro models - but I get what you mean ;)
@@lukepatmon2940 how can you innovate a shoe? everything that can be done to a shoe has been done
@robbierichgannon25 how can you innovate a shoe? everything that can be done, has been done. its like trying to innovate a ceiling fan or a sponge.
Nike's quality control is crazy bad these days, and design wise Adidas showed much more creativity while Nike hasn't really showed anything good for a while.
Just look at basketball lol. Nike only had old designs and adidas keeps pushing the innovation with better products for cheaper.
ON RUNNING BABY!
They were a tiny brand in your days. Made by kids too by the way in those days.
My main issue with Nike other than that they have just been "athleisure" is that all their shoe sizes have almost always run narrow. After branching out to other brands for running and basketball which offer a wide size, I don't see myself ever going back
Please come back 🙂↕️
Nike offers wide shoes, you probably just have to order online.
@@quachyq you got them big boats for feet?
It's more like running or tapering low. This means your toes touch the inner roof of the shoe. That has a similar effect to being narrow. They do this for the aesthetics. A good example is the Book 1 shoes. There's some exceptions however, such as the P6000 'Dad' shoe, which is a reissue of the Pegasus of the year 2006. These shoes tend to run wide and high on the toe box.
Why do they keep hiring old CEOs instead of somebody younger that knows the shoes and the culture? I can’t imagine Nike falling behind the way I be buying their stuff and the Jordan releases
Because its the" good ole boy club" and the culture isnt at the top as they should be....😉
There not struggling, there still making billions a year they just cant seem to figure out how to add another billion to there earnings. What more do they want?
Ceos is why they cost so much.
@@MrVaDelux you put it perfectly because in context they're still outperforming Adidas, Puma, New Balance etc
How many 18 year old CEOs have you heard of ? It takes years of work to become a CEO
Bring back the original Vaporfly 4%!
Im wearing adidas, they're good too, not that overpriced
Caitlin Clark ignored, no support whatsoever. Nike was silence when she won Rookie of the Year. Her fans were willing and able to buy Caitlin Clark products, but Nike had NOTHING to offer and nothing in the works. Mishandled one of the potentially greatest athlete of out time.
good point
Damn right I heard from LeBron who is probably the least favorite athlete right now, but Caitlyn is a actual disruptor! Not a 40 year old balding man. At this point LBJ is so old you might as well use Michael Jordan again.
Ngl, I just got bored of their style overall to be wearing on a casual. Now I just wear n look for new underrated/unknown brands
They forgot us retailers.
We sell passion.
While still being made in sweat shops. The last d takers I bought were NB made in America.
Nike is still a big company with a good balance sheet and huge brand value, significant r&d budget, many followers etc...
nike used to make what people wanted. now they just make what investors wants to sell.
give back the cushy shoes that are lasting. what people want are soft on feet but stable. lot of people want to look good so minimize the logo size.
They followed resellers instead of listening to consumer.
Teens don't want to wear Nike and that's a huge problem..
My teens want NB, Crocs, and ONs
@@mikesway4522new balance? I know of no teenager that wants New balances lol😅😅
@@mikesway4522 Basically any Tennis gear?
nah
I haven't bought Nikes in 20 years.
