Great job! I remember spending hundreds of dollars on Showtime between(and sometimes during!) classes in College! loved the game, and also Blitz.

Thanks for sharing the results from that mame build, I've tried a few different updated versions of mame and it still lagged and 236 works flawless for me!
Can I tell you how much I love this video... and especially this game. I thought I was the only person in the world who cared about getting this running on their arcade machine. Will try out this new MAME version to hopefully resolve this - as I have a similarly spec'd machined in my MAME cab. Thanks for sharing!

No problem, I had to share this info! Arcade tech is a job I wish I'd learned when I worked in arcades. I got to learn a little of it and have been able to work on my Hydro Thunder arcade cab but there's still stuff I don't know how to do.
I've played so much of this on my mame cabinet with a ryzen 3600 and decent gpu and it runs great. Tried this mame version with one of my older pc's with 4 core 8 thread i7 and it still can't handle it with the settings I want. They definitely improved the emulation as it runs great with all the video settings off but it just looks too grainy. I like to run my cabinet with D3D, HLSL and triple buffering on and the graphics are clear, but requires a beefy machine. Great video glad they're making progress as this is one of my favorites as well. Cheers
Yeah they did a great job optimizing this one. I used to have some issues with Blitz 2000 at times, nothing major but this really smoothed it all out.
Man the hours I put into NBA Showtime Hangtime and Jam is unreal as a kid coming up quite a few in blitz too this new generation has no idea how great life was coming up in this era 😎🤙🏾
It really was a great time in the 90s. You could argue new games are better looking and you can play them any time since they’re at home. But there’s something nice about the anticipation of going to the arcade. I remember cleaning the house for extra allowance to go to the arcade. I’d get to go maybe once a week and usually had about $10. I got to enjoy the heck out of the games for a couple of hours and had to go. You appreciate the time and games more when it’s limited.

I’m so impressed with that mame update. The side art for blitz is so dope that u can’t cover those panels. The control panel also looks amazing as well. Only change the marquee and also change that front panel on the bottom to say nba showtime. That would be your best options

These PCs are awesome. I use one as a mini gaming PC. It’s not anywhere near high end but it can play GTA V with a GT 1030 graphics card.

I've been running it on .215. It runs full speed but has some of the audio stuttering echoing. Thanks for the video!

Yo Man thank you so much for this post I played both versions on the 0.236 and it works incredibly no stuttering in the game at all either on fire or hot spots I wish blitz 99 would work on there though but I guess I gotta do the trick on that one on the old emulator 0.209

This looks great! This appears to be the same pc that you linked in your old build tutorial vid, correct? I followed your same build, so if this is the same pc then I definitely need to add an updated MAME build too. I love Showtime! Hopefully down the road, the people working on MAME will figure out how to pull off Mk4 without the graphic and texture issues
This is the PC I linked to in that tutorial. I’ve been using it ever since! It’s amazing how good that PC is for emulation.
That is awesome. I have an I7 10700k and 1650 graphics card. Runs flawless old rom but has slight slight stutter on fire and right at beginning. I think it’s a rom thing because no matter how powerful the pc seems to have same audio hiccups
It must be a rom issue then. Your PC should be plenty powerful enough.
@@KillerArcadeGames it has to be the rom because my buddy has a i9. It has same stutter ONLY at those same points in the game. I wonder if I put the rom on a SSD that would help ?
What processor comes in that 150 pc ?
@@djm2373 Its a Core i5 4570. If you're trying it on MAME .236 and got a new ROM/CHD download, its probably as good as its going to get. As far as I understand, this latest MAME release made improvements to emulation for that game and some others. The SSD probably won't make a big difference. The hard drive that was in the real arcade was probably significantly slower than the one you have in your PC. The SSD helps a ton when booting the PC though, I only wait about 55 seconds from turning the cabinet on and playing a game.
I think I am most likely playing on the old rom and CHD.
How do I add the most current rom ?

@@djm2373 no it is no rom issue look for some other nba showtime videos on UA-cam especially the 1TB system video you will see there are no audio stuttering at all.

Thanks! I don't, Theres a lot of stuff that could be an issue. If I'm doing the work and charging I'd like to be able to make it a good experience. I haven't found any way I could guarantee it so I just don't. I also just don't have much free time now days.

I’m old school, not saying that in a bragging way but literally haha. I started messing with arcade emulation in 2005 and none of that existed. So I still go back to the more manual option for emulation. I prefer it though, doing everything DIY style gives you more flexibility MAME version wise and better emulation.

I've never heard of that game! I had to look it up. I looked up the hardware it used, I assume its not working in MAME because of the advanced hardware.

Thats weird, do other versions of MAME work fine with those controls? If it still isn't working, I'd delete that install of MAME and try again. Maybe something didn't extract properly or something got deleted.
Yeah the Marquee for Blitz/Showtime looks much better I'd just change Marquee only. Honestly bro it's waste of money because at the end of day it's a 1up cab, if it was dedicated then yeah, but to each his own.
Yeah I think the marquee is as far as I’ll go. No one ever really sees it but me and my wife anyway haha

I might do that eventually, I like that idea. I'll have to wait until I get several other projects finished to think about that. But, I think I'll change the marquee since its under $20 to do that.

I've been trying to get some lightguns that work with lcds, but here in Uruguay is very difficult... so I bought some things to try to make one with a nintendo wii controller but I couldn't try it yet.
Are Sinden Guns not an option there? I've never tried the Wii stuff in an arcade cab but I know its been done by many others.
@@KillerArcadeGames I've been looking to buy some but I couldn't find, some items are very difficult to import due to customs policies, and I think that for that reason is very hard to get one here. Now I'm going to try with the wii controller and the dolphin bar.
Did did you need to add an additional graphics card onto your pc to get Blitz to run? Or does it run fine on the stock pc? Thank you!
It’s just the on board GPU, nothing was added.

I just upgraded from 2.33 to 2.47 today to see if there would be any difference for me and there isn’t. I’m using a i7 6700 and 1080ti so there’s plenty of horsepower but still plenty of audio stutter. Shame cause it does annoy me during gameplay.
Leave the cabinet alone. It's already a masterpiece.
I think I’ll leave the art alone. Maybe buy the other marquee art since it can quickly and easily be changed.

Is there a way to get NHL BLITZ and CARNEVIL games to look better on MAME? It seems like NFL BLITZ 2000 for PC looks way better than the arcade mame version. Is that correct? Thanks if you can provide some insight. :)
The MAME versions are just emulating the arcade hardware virtually and displaying the output. So nothing has really changed except new monitors don't have scan lines like CRT monitors had. Maybe that's why it looks better?
Come to think of it if this is working does that mean Mortal Kombat 4 may finally be running better on MAME as well?

Wondering, would this PC be better still if the graphics card was upgraded to a low profile GT 1030? Or does mame not care about that sort of thing?
I can tell you it makes almost no difference. I have a GT 1030. When I tested it with MAME it was no different. MAME devs have said the CPU is the important piece of hardware.

I’m running this PC with those emulators and both GameCube and Dreamcast/Naomi games work nicely.
Honest question. Why not just play NBA Showtime on a Dreamcast emulator? The loading times are a little longer, but honestly the graphics are much better than what MAME has to offer. It upscales practically infinitely and there are absolutely no jaggies. Plus it requires much less CPU and GPU power.
Its an option but I always prefer the arcade versions of these games. It actually works better inside of an "arcade" cabinet. No waiting on loading saves, no menus to fumble through, just press start and it performs like an arcade game.
@@KillerArcadeGames fair enough! I also did a side by side test at home and the arcade version has much smoother crowd animation, cleaner audio, and more robust effects like setting the hoop on fire.
Using big box is there a way can you set a game too boot straight up wen you switch on your machine?
Not yet, as far as I know. Why that isn’t a feature is beyond me.
@@KillerArcadeGames would be a good feature tho. Also,see with mk and killer instinct,the attract mode sounds go off after a short while,is there any way of getting them to stay on? I love having my 4 machines running with the sound on,gives you that nostalgic arcade feel.
It would be nice but it wouldn’t be easy since that’s in the game’s code. I’m sure it could be done by someone who’s good at modifying code similar to what the MK Plus guys did.

Why would you put an NBA Game in an NFL cabinet
Midway made a cabinet and upgrade kit for Blitz machines that was NBA Showtime/NFL Blitz 2000 all in one. You’d choose which game you wanted to play at start. Its a popular cabinet since it provides a lot of replay value.

I tried it briefly but thought the text looked like the console versions so I turned it off haha. I think Jeff is right though, it seemed similar in performance.
does the 4 player work
I haven't had a way to test it but I don't see why it would't work. There are dipswitch settings that can change it from 2 to 4 player. If yours isn't working, check that.
@@KillerArcadeGames I can confirm it works. But, I had to change it from 49way to 8 way to get players 3 & 4 controls to work.
