- NBA Showtime is a basketball video game by Midway. A descendant of NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime, Showtime is modeled after the NBA presentations on NBC. The original arcade version features team rosters from the beginning of the 1998-99 NBA season, while the console versions feature team rosters that were accurate just prior to the 1998-99 NBA season. A newer "Gold" version for arcades features another roster update from later in the 1999-2000 NBA season. Showtime was also featured in a dual game cabinet along with NFL Blitz 2000. Midway followed up the game with the console exclusive NBA Hoopz.

This will always be my favorite of the Midway NBA arcade games and one of my favorite games in general. Such great memories growing up watching the NBA on NBC.
I enjoy the more fun, arcadey sports titles. I find the more realistic ones to be boring and dull, while games with less realism have more possibilities for goofing around.
gamers in a container Absolutely. Sports games are the most fun when they're frantic and over-the-top. I'll take NFL Blitz and Mario Tennis over Madden or FIFA any day.

I’m going to add this game to my collection now, I’ve never played it. My older brother and I growing up knew absolute dick about the NBA but Hangtime was always a fucking blast once you got somewhat good at it. Great video as always good sir.

When I was a kid I love watching the NBA on NBC, the Intro to the game everything. This game even it's over the top make you feel like you watching a game on NBC.

Loved the Dreamcast port of this game. This version looks hideous in comparison. But no load times could really even it up.
Played this game alot in the arcades, and had it on N64 and Dreamcast.

Man I so miss the freaking game i had it for the 64 it brings me back good memories of me and my older brother going head to head when we were young I remember I used to get mad af bc I always had trouble beating him but god dam these games were the shit to us especially blitz NFL it's crazy how technology is so much more better nd graphics look so fucking real now but I grew up on super Nintendo lol mk1- ultimate mk3 Mario bros Mario kart shit seeing this game makes me wish I could go bak in time to them good old days but it's a trip how time passes you by like nothing

gamers in a container The N64 was such a powerful console that it's potential was mostly figured out at the end of the generation. It had dynamic lighting.
Miss Tokyo Fun yeah. What it could truly do was pretty crazy. People should make some more new games to take full advantage of the hardware. Especially the expansion pak.

N64 Glenn Plant someone should start making home brew games to fully take advantage of the console’s power. The later games in the library barely scratched the surface of what the system can do.
The graphics in this version sucked compared to the Dreamcast.
I've always loved this game and that's why I have always kept one copy of it in my game collection even if I don't own an N64, I bring it over to my friends and it's always enjoyable.

This is my favorite game of all time, spent countless hours with my friends playing this game back when it came out. I miss this simpler days. Nowadays games can be too much. Bought assassins creed Valhalla and had a miserable experience.

I've always wondered why Acclaim never ported NBA JAM Extreme to the N64, especially as they knifed Midway in the back over the rights and were promoting it heavily.
Larry Bundy Jr Acclaim took NBA Jam name from Midway so I don't think Midway would have been pleased to see Acclaim use their original name
I used to play ALL DAY the PSX version. Was one of the first NBA games i played, while the multiplayer with my friends was wonderful, even if they didn't know about the NBA.

Best bball game by far. Loved playing the arcade machine that had both this and blitz together as one
I got this game back in 2013 at a flea market with a few other games and a console which included Clay Fighter Sculptors Cut.

This one also only limited you to five shoves a quarter since it kept track of the fouls. The other team would then get a free throw that if they made it would be three points

I've been debating on whether or not I should get these or the PS1 versions
The thing is my N64 is in pretty meh condition
The PS1 controller I have still works
But my N64 controllers are very iffy
These are definitely near arcade perfect with Hangtime and Showtime, however I think it's easier for me to save and play with the Ps1 controller
This is rare for me as I usually say go for N64 for Arcade perfect ports
Plus my save files are more easier to keep
My controller paks are ancient
So since it's easier for me to keep saved data I have to go against my guy and go PS1 for NBA Jam series
However Court Side on Gamecube is my favorite Be basketball sim
Now I'm curious if you're gonna review one of the the NBA Jam Sims since Acclaim took over the Jam title then made NBA Jam 99 and 2000 for the N64.
Acclaim had recived a lot of hate in the past, but mostly because their Jam games weren't as wacky as Midway's, expecting it to be since ot has "NBA Jam" in the title.
would NFL Blitz 2001 or Special edition be worth a review? or are they only minor Updates from the old games?

This is a great game. It would've been interesting to see if arcade style basketball games would've maintained their popularity longer if Midway were allowed to continue using the NBA Jam brand. Having enjoyed home versions of NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime, I overlooked this game at the time because of the name and the change in presentation.

the NBA Street series seems to have continued the legacy of Jam, at least the first two did
I just bought this game. It’s fun, but so you not get to play a Season? I’m not seeing where it gives me that option.
First N64 game I've ever played I love the fast paced NBA Jam arcade series from Midway like I loved Hangtime for the N64 being the definitive verison of the game Midway made great sports arcade games

Actually it's better than what Acclaim could do. I like simulation sports games but why would they turn NBA Jam into a Sim?
This looks like a nice upgrade to Hangtime. The graphics look pretty nice actually. I assumed this would be one of the junky titles but it looks like one of the better b ball games

LIT GOD Alright I'll take your word for that. The only basketball game I grew up with was Kobe Bryant Courtside so all these games are new to me. Hangtime looks like an upgraded NBA Jam and this game looks like it plays the same as Hangtime with better graphics. I have plenty of controllers but getting 3 friends together for a game session is pretty tough these days. Curse you, adulthood!

I like this game quite a bit, but having "fouls" by default is annoying (there's a code to turn them off). Other than that, it's quite the good game and is just as good as past games. I'd probably rather play Hangtime or Jam TE though, just because they lack fouling and I can go wild with pushes and steals.
