I'm scared cuz I think I'm descending into becoming a Loki stan… I didn't think much about him but upon rewatching the Thor movies and Avengers 1 and paying attention to what an AMAZING actor Hiddleston is, I can't help falling for him. I still think he's pathetic sometimes but he's really entertaining! So much depth and emotion and I can barely tell when he's sincere or playing a trick. He keeps me on my toes and it's great!
The funeral for Frigga was beautiful. The colors, somber tone, music, and general atmosphere was perfectly executed in my opinion. Every time I think of Thor: The Dark World, I think of that scene. I don’t think the movie deserves the hate it does. Iron Man 2 still holds the spot for the weakest MCU film, IMO. But Malekith is one of the weakest villains to date.
But even Iron Man 2, which I agree is the weakest MCU movie, is still OK in comparison to a lot of bad comic book movies, at least to me. Even the weakest MCU movies are still leaps and bounds better than a lot of blockbusters.
Ben W agreed. It’s in no way garbage. Just compared to the others in the MCU, you have more negatives for it. Plus, you can blame the writer’s strike for the weak story elements in the film, too
punkrocker4life9674 I think the problem with Thor: The Dark World is that it's so forgettable. When I think back I only remember the Aether being introduced, his mother dying and Loki faking his death and impersonatining Odin. I didn't dislike it, but compared to the other MCU films it's just.... the worst. (That being because I did think Iron Man 2 is better... and I really like that line from Ragnarok)
Other than Whiplash, the introduction to War Machine, and Iron Suitcase, I think the best part of IM2 is the cliche, yet heart touching scene with Howard Stark on the projector. "What is and always will be my greatest creation... is you."
AciDic BliTzz I am sorry but I have to say this... This is the worst marvel movie by a large margin and anything you say is redeeming isn't redeeming enough
5:50 Tbh I thought Loki talking to his mom was an illusion he made up to kinda comfort? himself because no one actually came to talk to him once he was captured
Sancheezy really? Really?! Come on, that's not an actual opinion someone can actually have right? When we have both Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, Avengers Age of Ultron, Avengers, Civil War, Doctor Strange. I dare even say ALL marvel movies have a better opening pretty much
What has always bugged me is how advanced the asgardians are with giant force fields, massive defense turners yet they can't use anything by shields and swords.
8:28 I totally missed the fact that we got to see Loki's telekinesis before the Loki series. I wonder if there are other instances of it that I missed.
15:47 A purely evil villain isn't always bad. The Joker in The Dark Knight is pure evil. He just has a charm to him that makes the audience enjoy his screen time.
I love the concept about Asgard being known of across the Galaxy. With The Collector’s bow, he definitely knows about them to bow in respect. Just that the Asgardians are such a powerful force, that not even the Mad Titan himself was brave enough to steal the Tesseract personally
Hated Thor in the first movie, liked him better in this one & really liked him (a lot more) in Ragnarok. Loki I ALWAYS loved to bits. My family has had to sit through me explaining why 90% of what Loki does isn’t his fault... still hard to believe Loki isn’t the kid Odin failed the most.
Same. just same. I forced a couple of people to listen to me explain why he had his reasons, even if that doesn't count as an excuse, still not his fault! sooo... yay?
"explaining why 90% of what Loki does isn’t his fault" Loki's great but it was all his fault. just because we love a character doesn't mean we should act like they were a saint or had good reasons/motives
Big Mo Logan I think what they meant is Odin is partly to blame for Loki. You know how damaging it is to a mental state of hearing all your life you are great and suppose to be Kings. Then to learn that not only you are adopted but you are also the monsters everyone fears. I don’t know about you but that would send anyone into a tailspin. And not to mention that you thinking that he stole you away like another war relic and that the man you called father never loved you. And what about the woman you called mother? Thinking does she ever loved or care for you? Yea Loki is to blame for what he did but got to admit Odin had a hand in it too.
Fun fact: 10:30: that version of (actor playing) Fandral was supposed to be in the first Thor movie but there were scheduling conflicts. I think the actor was shooting the tv series "Chuck" at the time.
I loved this movie for two reasons: A) Darcy. Darcy is my favorite MCU character. B) All the little references to Norse Mythology that only we Mythology fans will get and that don' really have any effect on the movie. (I only wish they had made the dark elves actual dwarves. In my Homeregion, pretty much every tale and legend is somehow connected to dwarves) Ah, and also 10:05 because I watched it with my brother :-)
8:12 This is actually mimicing Baldr's funeral in real norse mythology, where they sent his corpse into the water on the best ship, after setting the ship and corpse on flames
@@nathanb4424 Thor 2: Thor fights a guy who throws a building sized boulder Thor Comics: Thor fights Glory... who is ten thousand freaking gods, pantheons and a dozen + worlds that they control.
The reason that I love the Thor movies(including this one) is cause of the brotherly relationship between Thor and Loki, it's something that isn't seen a lot in pop culture, except for Supernatural but other than that I don't know
I think it speaks to the quality of Hemsworth and Hiddleston's casting and acting that when I was reading actual tales of Norse mythology not too long ago, I could see every one of the things Thor and Loki say and do as being said and done by them.
unpopular opinion, but i enjoyed Dark World more than Thor 1 cuz we got some better looks at Asgard and Asgardians in general, like what you would've expected from a movie about THOR. Thor 1 had the better plot, Thor 2 had a better feel/world.
Actually, Thor The Dark World's budget was only slightly larger then Thor's, with only a 13% increase in budget. Alot of money by regular people's standards, but not by Hollywood, especially Disney lol.
The score during Frigga's funeral was absolutely beautiful and really played up the fantasy vibes. It's the one marvel OST track that I actively listen to
11:49 "Loki makes himself hard to love..."? This is probably the only sentence from CinemaWins I will never agree with. LOKI IS AWESOME AND I WILL LOVE HIM FOREVER!
I took this to mean people in his life, in general, find it hard to love him because. You know, the betrayal and the trying to take over Earth thing. Not that Loki, as a character, is hard for us, the fans, to love.
3:23 I thought the reason they weren't getting rained on is because Thor controls the weather and then when Jane moves, Thor moves the anti-rain with her. That's why they look around and notice Thor in the first place??? If it is actually because the aether was protecting her/itself, I'll be really disappointed
Creed Luvari They don't realize the Dark Elf villain is not really the main villain. Loki is the main villain. He took advantages of the events to deceive everyone. Then he fakes his death and pretends to be Odin. My main flaw with the movie is Darcy is annoying. She got more screen time in this movie. The Warriors Three and Sif were barely in thus movie. I agree the Dark Elf villain is weak but I didn't mind it because Loki is a better villain. Some of the comedy does't work like seeing Skellan nude. I still like the movie though.
This movie was better than Ragnarok to me, but its hard to compare the two...one is a superhero movie with emotional depth and a well structured story...and one (Ragnarok) is a straight comedy that eliminates everything that made this movie good and instead tries to emulate GOTG.
Firstly, General Zod's motives (if we're talking "Man of Steel" and not "Superman II") ARE explained - he was genetically engineered to be the perfect soldier, and Krypton is everything to him, so he'll go to any length to restore it. Secondly, part of the consequence of integrating Loki into the film (because of his post-"Avengers" popularity), were reportedly that some scenes giving Malekith more depth were cut; there was actually some backstory involving the loss of his family, which might have been what was driving him to return the world to darkness... But even then, I don't mind Malekith being one-dimensional evil if it was done WELL - and unfortunately, in the movie he's given little to stand out; comparatively, in the comics Malekith was SCARY EVIL, a despotic monster who the dark elves lived in fear of and one of Thor's most despicable foes. Further, in the comics his right-hand man Algrim/Kurse - who was basically just undying loyal to his cause in "The Dark World" - was the one who finally killed him after Malekith proved to Algrim that he had zero honour; Algrim in the comics, being a noble-hearted soul, would become a staunch ally to Asgard henceforth. So, no... it's not the fact of it that is the problem; it's the execution, IMHO.
10:00 This is how all siblings interact, not just brothers. I have sisters and that was us when we lived under the same roof as kids. Snark everywhere (though I still struggle with it at times).
I also really like this movies. It’s got awesome combat scenes and the architecture around Asgard, vanaheim and Svartlefheim is intricate and wonderful. Also malekith is a cool villain. He’s not supposed to be strong and is only credited as being the most ruthless of the dark elves. He’s more of a leader and a tactician than a fighter as you can see in his fight against Frigga. His main goal is to get the aether so he can achieve power without becoming Kursed which he thinks he’s above. The dark elves just appear really interesting to me especially in their military style and how they fight. All their weapons have a sinister tone to them and they prefer to use blasters rather than melee and when they use melee attacks through the kursed it’s seen as a sacrifice rather than an honor. Also you have to ask yourself if the dark elves actually designed their ships specifically for invading Asgard from how they easily maneuver and cut through their defenses and buildings
Honestly, this channel is such a blessing. More people need to look at "less than brilliant" movies this way. Hating on stuff gets tiresome pretty quickly. The Dark World really had some really nice moments and learning to appreciate its good side feels so much better, because it really has quite a bunch of nice stuff, it's not like it's heartless.

I agree at 10:53 but I also think the reason Hawkeye might not have had as many lasting side effects as Selvig is: 1- we really didn't get to see much of Hawkeye between Avengers 1 and 2 so he might have had more side effects, but also 2- Selvig probably had more shit being pumped into his brain. Selvig was the "brains" of the operation, he was the science guy and Loki was feeding all kinds of information into his brain in order to make the device he needed to open the wormhole. Selvig is smart, but when you pump information into someone, information that we haven't gotten to ourselves yet, it would be hard for a brain to cope or handle all of that. I'm sure there would even be some that he didn't even fully grasp and that would be hard, having information coursing through your brain that you can't even fully comprehend. For someone as smart as Selvig that alone could drive him nuts, the frustration of not being able to understand what he knows. Hawkeye didn't have information crammed into his head, he was more of a puppet being used as the "brawn" of the team to get what Loki needed. But more importantly 3- Hawkeye is a SHIELD agent, a clandestine government agency agent, Clint probably went through rigorous training to help him compartmentalize and to handle something at least similar to what happened to him, and after probably had the best psychologists on staff available to help him through the after math. While he'd still have side effects, it would be minimized by these things. Selvig of course would have been given the same treatment afterwards, as SHIELD would have probably set him up with the same psychologists but he didn't have the previous training before hand. And going back to number 2, he also has so much information in his head now, information that he himself is having a hard time handling and understanding, that's not going to be something that psychologists are going to be able to help with easily. Anyway, just had to point these out...
I remember seeing this movie and thinking the premise is a bit off but the movie itself is not bad. Thanks for this video, it reaffirms all the good things I picked up in this movie. I agree entirely with your summary at 18:32.
It didn’t seem particularly consequential for a long time, the plot is pretty standard, and Malekith is a boring villain and a waste of Christopher Eccleston’s talents. That’s what people I’ve chatted with have said anyways. Personally, I think it’s a fun adventure romp with a few flaws that keep it from truly being remarkable. I’ll never call it a favorite movie of mine, but it’s a fun ride.
@@raidenthenctzenwithinsomni4961 😂 yeah fair points. The aether though never really amounted to much, apparently it could unmake the entire universe alone but then it just becomes another number to Thanos

Fun little fact about that slap at 3:30 when Jane reunites with Thor....this slap is actually real. Also in the second movie, the last kiss is Chris Hemsworth's wife....not Natalie.

She actually says mjolnir in this one. The nir gave it away.
"What is and always will be my greatest creation... is you."
I agree IM2 is the worst MCU film in my opinion
I just noticed that the score from Frigga’s funeral is the music that plays during Loki’s play in Ragnarok
I yeah it was taken to mock this movie lol
“Oh now that’s an entrance”
MARVEL: oh just wait
**releases Infinity War and Endgame
I had the same thought - it shows how much more powerful Thor has become, especially with controlling his powers!
Heading out to see Thor: Ragnarok in an hour so this video is timed perfectly for me! I've heard great things about it :D
AciDic BliTzz You're right. It's a fucking awesome movie
Yeah it was ok
you are a minecraft youtuber, what are you doing here?
Ragnorak is OK with some great moments. Just another overhyped and over-praised MCU film
AciDic BliTzz I am sorry but I have to say this... This is the worst marvel movie by a large margin and anything you say is redeeming isn't redeeming enough
This movie is really not as bad as people say is, i love it :D

Opening scene in Thor the dark world is by far one of my favorite opening scenes in the MCU.
S/O to Tim Miller for shooting that.
Sancheezy really? Really?! Come on, that's not an actual opinion someone can actually have right? When we have both Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, Avengers Age of Ultron, Avengers, Civil War, Doctor Strange. I dare even say ALL marvel movies have a better opening pretty much
I’m on a similar boat. It’s not always a shared opinion, but ever since Lord of the Rings, I’ve always loved those world-building history monologues.
When the movie is so unmemorable you don't even remember the opening scene
The opening scene in ragnarok is better
What has always bugged me is how advanced the asgardians are with giant force fields, massive defense turners yet they can't use anything by shields and swords.
I don’t hate this movie and I did enjoy for the most part. Also Thor: Ragnarok is awesome
Loving the positivity. Any chance you'd tackle the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies?
ChrisOfTheDead Pretty sure that if you did everything great about lord of the rings that would be copyright infringement.
ChrisOfTheDead CHRIS!!!!!!!!! Never thought I’d see you here!!!
They could probably do the Hobbit films < not very good IMO and LOTR Two Towers
Eddie the Head hello from the future! We got the lord of the rings like we wanted!
With Gandalf being wrong, it ruined them all for me.
8:28 I totally missed the fact that we got to see Loki's telekinesis before the Loki series. I wonder if there are other instances of it that I missed.
"tadaaa" still my favourite damn line.
Has it been replaced by flourish yet?
Ironically, the score used in Frigga's funeral is one of my favorite Marvel scores.
15:47 A purely evil villain isn't always bad. The Joker in The Dark Knight is pure evil. He just has a charm to him that makes the audience enjoy his screen time.
the rotating truck practical effect deserves so much credit. Thats Nolan level work
I love the concept about Asgard being known of across the Galaxy. With The Collector’s bow, he definitely knows about them to bow in respect. Just that the Asgardians are such a powerful force, that not even the Mad Titan himself was brave enough to steal the Tesseract personally
As one of my favourite side characters in this movie I'm so glad they brought Darcy back in Wandavision.
Same. just same. I forced a couple of people to listen to me explain why he had his reasons, even if that doesn't count as an excuse, still not his fault!
sooo... yay?
Think the point of the first film was to hate Thor. He was a brat. So liking him in later films make more sense cuz of his growth
@@sandywolfr26 he's come along way like Tony remember when he was a dick
"explaining why 90% of what Loki does isn’t his fault"
Loki's great but it was all his fault. just because we love a character doesn't mean we should act like they were a saint or had good reasons/motives
Thanks for making me smile every day with your videos! :)
Epic Music Movie but he doesn't upload daily......?
You stole my line
Thor: The Dark World. "Now, that's an entrance".
Avengers: Infinity War. "Hold my beer".
Creative pseudonym Avengers Endgame: You two are adorable.
I love how the most grounded sibling relationship is the one with two deities 😂
That scene with Heimdal single handedly made him my favorite Asgardian God
Fun fact: 10:30: that version of (actor playing) Fandral was supposed to be in the first Thor movie but there were scheduling conflicts. I think the actor was shooting the tv series "Chuck" at the time.
I loved this movie for two reasons:
A) Darcy. Darcy is my favorite MCU character.
B) All the little references to Norse Mythology that only we Mythology fans will get and that don' really have any effect on the movie. (I only wish they had made the dark elves actual dwarves. In my Homeregion, pretty much every tale and legend is somehow connected to dwarves)
Ah, and also 10:05 because I watched it with my brother :-)
No most Mythology fans would most likely not, it really doesn't follow the mythology.
10:36 it gets even better when you know that Tom Hiddleston improvised this.
8:12 This is actually mimicing Baldr's funeral in real norse mythology, where they sent his corpse into the water on the best ship, after setting the ship and corpse on flames
1:31 That was a cool entrance. Glad they decided to use the same entrance in Infinity War, but 50K times more badass
"Can I have my shoe back?"
A powered up Thor?... Ha wait till you see ragnarok....
ThatRonndo Ha wait till you see Infinity War
"Ha! Just wait until you see Ragnarok!"
Infinity War: "Hold ma beer..."
Wait till you see infinity war
@@nathanb4424 Thor 2: Thor fights a guy who throws a building sized boulder
Thor Comics: Thor fights Glory... who is ten thousand freaking gods, pantheons and a dozen + worlds that they control.
Or wait till endgame. (Maybe not)
The reason that I love the Thor movies(including this one) is cause of the brotherly relationship between Thor and Loki, it's something that isn't seen a lot in pop culture, except for Supernatural but other than that I don't know
truth
Vampire Diaries, though it ended already and doesn't appeal to a huge audience
I can't believe you left out the part where Jane gets the Aether stolen from her by a rabbit!
Raccoon you mean? haha:D
Other movie dude
Mr. Smith that’s the joke lol
That didn’t happen yet but also already happened. Time is weird.
@@thehorseformerlywithoutana2522 It happened, we just didn't know it happened.
That's called bigger budget.
It's the one marvel OST track that I actively listen to
Watched Thor: Ragnarok last night and my first reaction when I saw Thor shirtless was "Chris Hemsworth's workout routine."
I hope you're proud
16:33 - "A fully functional and powered up Thor"
Lol, you had no idea
Yah, and Even before Ragnarok, Thor was NOT powered up in Thor 2! Always disappointed me
18:50 "Introducing the "second" infinity stone"
Scepter and the Tesseract: You what?
This movie is extremely underrated and I am really excited for Thor Ragnorak
Jacob Decker Yeah really underrated. I really enjoy it! And Ragnorak wad amaze balls!!
This is better
Jacob Decker Ragnarok* Spell it right, people!
ragnarok was easily the best movie but i enjoyed the previous films
Do you mind if I spoil it for you?
I actually really liked this movie, still do. Underrated and overhated.
littledreamergalaxy.blogspot.com/2018/04/thor-dark-world-is-darki-mean-its.html?m=1
Me too. I thought I was the only one who really liked this movie.
ALRB i agree LOKI IS AMAZING AND MISUNDERSTOOD!!!!!
I don't know why the heck people hate these movies and like the Ragnarok one while its actually shows how serious a god should be
3:23 I thought the reason they weren't getting rained on is because Thor controls the weather and then when Jane moves, Thor moves the anti-rain with her. That's why they look around and notice Thor in the first place??? If it is actually because the aether was protecting her/itself, I'll be really disappointed
Are those the black hole granades that Shocker was trying to sell in Homecoming?
Omar Rivas Bustinza yup
8:17. I just realized that the choir sings this dirge for the Saga of Loki in Thor Ragnarok.
Don't know why people hate this movie I love it
Shawn McMillan villain is terrible, a weird darker tone, up until Ragnorok Thor was no ones favorite
It was too much like the Star Wars Prequels.
10:00 This is how all siblings interact, not just brothers. I have sisters and that was us when we lived under the same roof as kids. Snark everywhere (though I still struggle with it at times).
Darcy saying "Myeh-myeh" is truly the best.
Really well said and couldn't agree more. I really don't like that people often come to reviews of films like this just to comment "the film sucked" even tho this type of video is typically aimed at fans. I'm already seeing a lot of hate for Thor 4 even though I loved it and I keep thinking "just let those of us who did enjoy it have our fun"
14:18 I yust watched Thor dark world on Fox Moves with Croatian subtitles and the way she says Miolnr was titled as "Mjau-mjau", I laughed so hard ithurts.
This video is from four and a half years ago and I'm still coming back to watch it. Your commentary and personal determination to bring joy back into analysis of cinema has done so much for so many. I would love to just have fifteen minutes of your time and talk about how the channel came to be. I'm really curious about your journey of becoming the person who can run this channel
I agree at 10:53 but I also think the reason Hawkeye might not have had as many lasting side effects as Selvig is:
1- we really didn't get to see much of Hawkeye between Avengers 1 and 2 so he might have had more side effects, but also
2- Selvig probably had more shit being pumped into his brain. But more importantly
3- Hawkeye is a SHIELD agent, a clandestine government agency agent, Clint probably went through rigorous training to help him compartmentalize and to handle something at least similar to what happened to him, and after probably had the best psychologists on staff available to help him through the after math.
So many people only hate this movie because they heard someone else say that they hate this movie

That isn't a dude , your a dude
This is a man , a handsome muscular man
I remember seeing this movie and thinking the premise is a bit off but the movie itself is not bad. Thanks for this video, it reaffirms all the good things I picked up in this movie. I agree entirely with your summary at 18:32.
I thought the movie was okay. Why do so many MCU fans hate it?
M. Chedderbeef idk maybe cause of the villain and the end battle. That was the case for me but I liked this film.
Fairly generic story. No real character progression nor tie ins with rest of marvel. Malekith was a bit of a wuss too.
@@barrylyndon5552 'No tie-ins with the rest of Marvel'? That's a positive, god damn it. Also it's false. The Aether? Hello?
@@raidenthenctzenwithinsomni4961 😂 yeah fair points. The aether though never really amounted to much, apparently it could unmake the entire universe alone but then it just becomes another number to Thanos
I'm very glad that I'm not alone in liking this movie, while I feel I love it more than most it's a little tired feeling alone in liking the less popular MCU projects, from She-Hulk to Iron Man 2 to... well, this!

Fun little fact about that slap at 3:30 when Jane reunites with Thor....this slap is actually real. They couldn't get Natalie to fake-slap and have it look realistic, so Chris Hemsworth got slapped in the face twice just to make this scene look good. Also in the second movie, the last kiss is Chris Hemsworth's wife....not Natalie.
