That is a win. He wasn't a bad guy and did care about Cassie. Sure he didn't get along with Scott and probably had a bias against him (for various reasons). But in the end they both cared about that kid and they managed to reconcile. Good job by the movie with that. Didn't have to make him a bad guy just to make Scott look better.
Overlooked Win: Cassie's Dad & Stepdad. Scott Lang wasn't an absentee dad once he left prison unlike Hank Pym who could have been there for his daughter. Scott tried to re- connect with Cassie, when other ex-cons distance themselves. Paxton was a loving step-dad to kid, regardless of her snark. Not a typical movie step-parent.
I also love how Cassie’s mother doesn’t treat Scott terribly as stereotypical exes do and it’s highly likely she’d let him in,if he paid child support.

It was a little kit of fancy shot glasses that my family owns to this day. My mom told me this story. I never knew my Nono because he died, but that story always makes me smile. sooo, not gonna mention on how amazing a step dad jim paxton was to cassie? like, he didn’t care that her father is the man he hates, he just wants her to be happy and safe and calls her sweetheart and basically loves her like his own.
4 years late replying to this, but I wouldn't even say that he hates Scott, just that he's not entirely sure what kind of influence he'll be to Cassie as an ex-con. Paxton doesn't ever target Scott maliciously at all (which he probably would if he hated Scott) and although he's fairly harsh when Scott shows up unannounced to Cassie's party and again when Scott is rearrested, his attitude is still kind of understandable and not vindictive at all. Throughout the film, the guy is literally just doing his job as both a cop and someone who clearly cares about Cassie despite not being her biological father and he has no worries about letting Scott go at the end of the film once he's proved that he's a good guy and can be a good father to Cassie.
I was actually pretty happy that Falcon was the Avenger that showed up in this film because it gave him a chance to get a cool fight scene after missing out on the finale of Age of Ultron. He gets to show off why he’s cool while providing a believable measure of progress to Scott’s training.

A little too late on this discussion... but is it not public knowledge that Paul Rudd is one of the screenwriters of this film and the sequel? So he does not only deliver the best comedic lines, he wrote some of it too.
I think the whole thing about Cross using a lamb instead of a mouse was to further him as a villain, but more so because lambs are seen as symbols of innocence rather than it being cuter, and killing an innocent is very villainesque.
I give so much respect for this movie. The advertisement didn't do this movie an favors for me, but god I regret to this day I didn't see this movie when it came out in theaters. Honest Trailers is what got me to rent it, and its in my top 5 favorite Marvel /Superhero movies. Tomorrow ok going to see Dr Strange with my little brother and mom, I didn't have AntMan be my first 3-D experience..but hopefully Strange and AntMan 2 will be just as incredible if not better;).
It's funny. The trailer sold us perfectly on the attitude of the film "You'll be Antman!" "Uh.. are you locked in on that name?" (or something like that). Irreverent-- didn't take itself seriously. And yet STILL kept the name and made it respected. Marvel so far succeeds because they respect the characters. DC has superman killing. The only poor aspect of Marvel is generic music. I've seen some bits where music appropriate to the scenes is used and the scenes are even better. I think Deadpool was soooo good because it had a low budget. They really need to hold the budgets down. Plus marvel films actually translate comic book scenes (like splash pages) effectively to the screen. And DC is just too dark. They need to lighten up.
My parents were both Depression-era farm kids. Dad never yelled ; mom, from the strict upbringing she had, was the disciplinarian. but I understand your point: for me, it would be like mom asking, "Do I have to get the Belt?"
Yeah, I hate it when that happens because i always have to skip that scene or entire episode because its kinda triggering. The last time it happened to me was when in grey's anatomy Meredith's father slaps her in the hospital in front of everyone. That scene was so real to me I could never watch it again.
I weirdly appreciate them finding a way to keep the "problematic" aspects of Hank Pym in the universe. We shouldn't glorify domestic abuse but pretending it doesn't exist or isn't a component of complex human beings is not helpful either.
The Elite Shock Trooper I'm watching it on Monday, I really wanted to go to the premiere but I had to babysit my little brother so I couldn't make it 😢
It is a solid addition to everything. It has is a good thinking movie. It also has a spiritual side in some things as well. Hard to say more without spoiling.
5:15 - Love the second theory. Makes a whole lot of sense. He's a thief, and hardly a Ph.D, why tell him things you don't really want to tell him and he wouldn't understand in the first place?
I think the smartest thing they did was jump past the Hank Pym ant man and instead make Scott Lang's Ant Man the focus. Aside from the fact that I really liked this elderly mentor character who for once didn't die halfway for the film, having it be Hank Pym doing a origin story would have killed the film. Comic Book Hank Pym is reprehensible, pointless and boring. There is only two things about Hank Pym, that he created Ultron and the domestic abuse against Janet (I don't know the context and I don't want to because it is indefensible). The MCU showed that you didn't need Hank to create Ultron so there is nothing Hank could bring to the Avengers. He would be just another 'Smart' person but without Tony's charm or Bruce's tragedy. Meanwhile Scott brings the powers but also with a fresh perspective. And credit where it is due, this film made me care about Hank Pym. Film Hank Pym I would love to see more of and see him interact with other marvel characters. At the very least I would love to see Hank and Tony in a room together, just to see them duke it out.
Agree about the good of skipping Hank's origin and just letting it eek out. However, it should be remembered that the whole "abusive" thing was an artistic error. The intent was for Hank, at a desk, working feverishly, to throw his hands up in frustration, errantly hitting Janet whom was standing much closer than he knew. The artist drew a dramatic standing backhanded blow ('cause everything had to staged for max drama, right?)...the poor panel ran b/c there wasn't time to have it redone and still be the pages to press. Why Marvel allowed other writers to build on the asshole myth instead of ignoring the error, I don't know, but it bugs me b/c Hank cherished Janet.
@@dinotheruler1690 Nah it was because he was using a Glock 17, which in real life does not have an external hammer, but they added one so the ants could save the day.
It would be great if you could make everything great about The Incredible Hulk, it is such a criminally underrated marvel movie that it needs some wins...
AboAbdulable I haven't seen the whole thing yet but I saw a tiny bit of it at a hotel once. I know people skip it because they got Ruffalo for our main Hulk instead but it seemed from that snippet like a genuinely good film.
I don’t know if it’s how Luis says it, or it’s how the actor emphasises it, but the ‘ just chillin ‘ part of the story gets me everytime. Also, there’s no evidence, but I always thought Hank couldn’t use the suit anymore because of the anger he showed, like it affected him on that level.
Fire ants are able to survive floods partially by surface tension between their body hairs, their low mass density and the fact they're floating on the corpses of their less fortunate swarm mates
I'm so glad David Dastmalchian got a chance to flex his acting muscles a bit in The Suicide Squad. His story is absolutely fascinating, and he seems like a good dude
I caught it was an older Peggy. In that scene, I loved when the douche suggested Janet's death was Hank's fault so Hank slammed his face into the deask and Stark Sr. mutters, "Your the one mentioned her." Loved that! Hank was still hurting, grieving and NO ONE was going to stain his love for her!
Fernando Aguilera tbh he's really not that bad, and his appearances clearly decrease as the movies progress, implying that Lucas noticed that people didn't really like jar jar...but literally nobody in any of the movies showed much proof of liking jar jar
Jar Jar was originally supposed to be Yoda's counterpart. Unfortunately, Lucas didn't reveal that soon enough and the backlash made him balk. There are many scenes in the first prequel which blatantly show Jar Jar using drunken gods style martial arts and using force powers. And the jedi don't even sense it. As the goofy yoda was a disquise, the goofy Jar Jar was a disquise. It's very likely Jar Jar was as old as or older than Yoda (and survived the "rule of two" being implemented).
I re-watched this movie a couple days ago and having seen Endgame more than once, the "I've been trying for years to keep this tech out of the hands of a Stark" line made me chuckle a bit because all the Avengers get Ant-Man like suits.
My favourite MCU film- I may be technically more of a Cap fan, but this movie is pure cinematic joy on a popsicle stick, and it turned shrinking from body horror into a power fantasy. Hooray for Ant-Man!
I love your channel so much! You make a lot of really great observations about films and compliment them, regardless of whether or not they were well-received by critics. I love your attention to detail and how much you focus on the strengths of the narrative rather than the weaknesses. Keep up the great work! :)
I always thought that the reflection on his helmet was Doctor Strange. But now that the Wasp has been mentioned it makes more sense for it to be her than Strange.
You,Cinemasins, Lindsay Sterling, and a few other UA-camrs are my go to when I feel sick or have a stomachache and you know what you always make me smile and happy and for that I just want to say thank you hope you're having a good day or night and that you keep being awesome!!
When I saw the trailers (knowing little about Antman) I was exited for the movie, mainly because you could immediatly tell that this was a fundamentaly different origin story to the rest of the MCU. I mean, a genius billonaire + sidekick, a supersoldier from 70 years ago, a scientist/rage monster, a demigod, two professional assasins, an artificial lifeform, a mutant/witch, and a veteran with a pretty unique deployment. And that last one is the most ordinary of them all (which makes the interaction between Falcon & Antman pretty appropriate actually). Introducing Antman as someone from the other end of the social spectrum was a brilliant move in terms of character constellation, and that played out pretty well in Civil War. And similar things could be said about the action; They deliberatly went for the fundamentally different type, literally on the opposite end of the scale. This wasn't a random character being thrown into the mix to bridge the time until Civil War. There was clearly a lot of narrative method behind this in the grand sceem of the MCU. I walked out of the theater thinking "Well, I enjoyed this, it was different. And I can't wait to see how the rest of the team will interact with this rather ordinary guy." Which I'm pretty sure was the intention.
This was one of the movies i thought would be a bit too stupid because his powers was to turn small but still turned out to be one of my most favourite Heroes
Woah, woah, woah. I just realized while watching this video that the tank shown in the archive footage (1:10) is the same tank that Hank uses at the end. That a continuity win!
I love Edgar Wright! Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorite movies. And Edgar Wright does have some great techniques. But as far as I know, he had left by the time Reed added the tip montage. It's definitely reminiscent of Wright, but I don't think he had anything to do with it. People like to credit Wright with things like quick cuts and in this case swipe cuts with lip syncing, but directors have been doing stuff like that forever. Paul Thomas Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, even Alfred Hitchock.
13:59 The smaller you are, the less you will take from fall damage, so that fall probably wouldn't be fatal, I also doubt serious injuries. An ant can be thrown out of a plane and survive the fall with little injuries.
this is the most underrated movie in the mcu, it's more unique seeing as it isn't a conventional superhero movie and the villain isn't all about taking over the world and killing everyone. this is a superhero heist film which focuses on redemption and i personally think Darren Cross/Yellowjacket is a great villain. he's not as great as Loki or Killmonger but he is more believable seeing as he's a corrupt businessman who doesn't care about who he hurts, also his death scene where he starts Shrinking uncontrollably until he dies is not only epic but appropriate for a villain who was killed by the power he tried to get his hands on. Ironic deaths are the best kind.
Great video! I agree that Ant-Man is a fun film. I really enjoyed it when it came out. However, there's one small plot hole that you missed. It's established that even though something shrinks, it's still the same weight and mass, or something like that. Since that's the case, why was Hank able to hold the tank like he did? Unless it's a toy, it should be impossible for him to carry at all! Keep up the great videos!
I'm still confused about it, though. If the "science" behind the pym particle is not truly revealed, how come ant-man can still punch someone effectively in that size
Interestingly because of the mass the Thomas Tank Engine toy being enlarged should have just floated like a balloon and would not be able to crush a cop car
I just watched this for the first time tonight and is now honestly one of my favorite Marvel movies ever. Sure it didn’t have as much action but it was fucking hilarious and the plot was still good. Can’t wait to watch part 2 tmrw night!!
Hey, didn't notice that was old Peggy, I just thought that was Mrs Stark. God, it's things like these that make the MCU feel so rich with backstory and characters.

No Body I lean toward Springfield too. Can't believe all you gun guys missed the machine gun flob though. Browning M1919 .30 not M2 .50 BMG.

I know brother, I was just making a funny. Score?
"He's so ugly! I LOVE HIM!" is a line so damn adorable, that I have to pause every time just to be able the cuteness.
The security guy whistled the tune of "it's a small world after all."
Which is just so clever.
OH I JUST REALIZED THAT OMGGGGGG
Scar: "No, no! ANYTHING but that!"
Hhhooooly crap!
@@EntertainmentFan11 thank you for beating me to it😂
I really like your second theory on how the Pym Particles work.
Really? I found this film to be rather unremarkable. Not bad. Just unremarkable.
Glad you enjoyed it though.
It's funny. The trailer sold us perfectly on the attitude of the film
"You'll be Antman!"
"Uh.. are you locked in on that name?"
(or something like that).
Hank actually scared me when he yelled...
He kinda reminded me of my dad in the past.
Oh god Preston no
My parents were both Depression-era farm kids.
11:58, thanks for actually knowing who she is. I love her work on UA-cam, so it's nice she gets some recognition.
"I'll have to shrink between the molecules to get in there"
"I love you cassy"
I weirdly appreciate them finding a way to keep the "problematic" aspects of Hank Pym in the universe. We shouldn't glorify domestic abuse but pretending it doesn't exist or isn't a component of complex human beings is not helpful either.
Does anyone else think that Antman's score is really comic-like?
Yeah but it's great
Its...a comic book movie
I have seen Doctor Strange 2 times now and it is so AWESOME!!!
The Elite Shock Trooper I'm watching it on Monday, I really wanted to go to the premiere but I had to babysit my little brother so I couldn't make it 😢
Amethyst it's brilliant dude
Did u watch in 3d and 2d which is better?

It is a solid addition to everything. It has is a good thinking movie. It also has a spiritual side in some things as well. Hard to say more without spoiling.
I wasn’t to excited to see this movie, but when I saw it, I was like “What have I been missing out on?!”
7:46 You say “One of the least expensive Avengers”, I say “Avenger who deserved more screen time”.
I can't wait to see Doctor Strange tomorrow in IMAX 3D
MegaSoulhero man it's great
MegaSoulhero i chose Jack Reacher instead, i recomend it
Gabriel Kero The new sucks
MegaSoulhero Doctor Strange is a really good movie and can't wait to see him in upcoming MCU movie.
Francisco Ezel id say doctor strange is one movie you dont wanna watch high
The wasp subatomic thing has me going "OH SHIT!"

It would be great if you could make everything great about The Incredible Hulk, it is such a criminally underrated marvel movie that it needs some wins...
AboAbdulable it's the only movie in the mic I dislike
AboAbdulable I haven't seen the whole thing yet but I saw a tiny bit of it at a hotel once. I know people skip it because they got Ruffalo for our main Hulk instead but it seemed from that snippet like a genuinely good film.
It's a lot easier to appreciate if you're a fan of the 1970's "Incredible Hulk" tv series.
Especially the intro. I could watch that over and over - the second half is forgettable, but the intro really works well!!
AboAbdulable straight up. Tim Roth as abomination!!! That nigga Stabbed Tupac!!!!
Michael Penã BEEN a RANGED actor. Comedy in Next Friday. Drama in End of Watch or battle Los Angeles.
ikr
He never said he wasn't before, just that he's proven himself to a more general audience.
Just been in Cinema for Doctor Strange... Dude.. You simply *must* do a video.. Right now.. Go.. Go do it!
5:57 Hank shouting "NO" in slow mo is the best.
You should do Speed Racer. It has to be one of my favorite films and it's a shame that it is so underrated.
the live action one? i remember it being SO COOL!
IKR! A lot of people write it off for it's possibly seizure inducing special effects, which is a shame.
Ambrose The Bowman fun fact.- THAT'S what made me think it was the COOLEST thing EVAR!!11!1!
I actually wrote a college paper on it!
Ambrose The Bowman I think it was a little to advance for it's time.

I'm so glad David Dastmalchian got a chance to flex his acting muscles a bit in The Suicide Squad. His story is absolutely fascinating, and he seems like a good dude
I NEVER NOTICED THAT WAS PEGGY CARTER
master pp how?
the accent gave it away the overall british accent adds to her character alot
I caught it was an older Peggy. In that scene, I loved when the douche suggested Janet's death was Hank's fault so Hank slammed his face into the deask and Stark Sr. mutters, "Your the one mentioned her." Loved that! Hank was still hurting, grieving and NO ONE was going to stain his love for her!

I'm curious to see his reaction to Jar Jar Binks.
9:39 REMOVING A WIN?! Woah! I've never seen you do that, before!
As always, wonderful video CinemaWins!
Antman and Wasp were some of my favorite heroes growing up, I’m so excited that these movies are being made.
some of the most genuinely funny jokes in the MCU are in Ant-Man :)
if you believe that, id just like to say, "im sorry"
@@AzguardMike it's true, Scott is one of the funniest characters
and gotg
Still wondering and waiting to see if Jeremy will do a video with you... or if he hates you.
My favourite MCU film- I may be technically more of a Cap fan, but this movie is pure cinematic joy on a popsicle stick, and it turned shrinking from body horror into a power fantasy. Hooray for Ant-Man!
“Scott won’t tell anyone so he made it fast and small” ends up saving the world with it
My two wins that weren’t here:
1. Tongue in cheek Titanic movie references.
2. Two smoothie machines.
I love your channel so much! You make a lot of really great observations about films and compliment them, regardless of whether or not they were well-received by critics. I love your attention to detail and how much you focus on the strengths of the narrative rather than the weaknesses. Keep up the great work! :)
"If a movie can make me tear up over an ant, you know it did something right."
--Yup.
I always thought that the reflection on his helmet was Doctor Strange. But now that the Wasp has been mentioned it makes more sense for it to be her than Strange.
The best part of this movie- Scott and Hope being the best MCU couple ever.
You,Cinemasins, Lindsay Sterling, and a few other UA-camrs are my go to when I feel sick or have a stomachache and you know what you always make me smile and happy and for that I just want to say thank you hope you're having a good day or night and that you keep being awesome!!
Peggy Carter is always a win. Don't mean to tell you how to do your job, but you forgot that one.
That exchange in the beginning between Scott and Louise while they were in the van had me dying 😂😂😂
11:31 can i point out that Sheldon proved that string theory is not about strings instead its plates that overlap (thanks penny)
And I can't wait to see how the rest of the team will interact with this rather ordinary guy."
Which I'm pretty sure was the intention.
The gun wasn’t to make him goo, the gun was a prototype shrinking gun as shown when they first try to shrink a goat.
This was one of the movies i thought would be a bit too stupid because his powers was to turn small but still turned out to be one of my most favourite Heroes
Your positivity and niceness makes me have a crush on you btw
love your channel! !
yeeaah
Woah, woah, woah. I just realized while watching this video that the tank shown in the archive footage (1:10) is the same tank that Hank uses at the end. That a continuity win!
Who is gonna tell Luis that his van got destroyed in endgame....
It was all he had 0:48
3:05 "They kind of invented a whole new exposition delivery system!"
Clearly this guys knows *nothing* about the genius that is Edgar Wright...!!
@@CinemaWins I read somewhere that the scene wasn't actually Wright's idea and that it was planned after Reed came on board as the director.
Zoolander reference was easily the best part of this video. Hilarious.

The smaller you are, the less you will take from fall damage, so that fall probably wouldn't be fatal, I also doubt serious injuries.
On the firing hammer win removal he was actually hold a colt M1911 which does have an external hammer but still a great video
This was my favorite CinemaWins yet - keep 'em coming!
He addressed that in his theories, watch it again
Oops! My mistake. Thank you for correcting me :) I must have misunderstood what he was talking about. Thanks again :)
Banana maybe different intensities of particles affects how an object interacts with them?
I just watched this for the first time tonight and is now honestly one of my favorite Marvel movies ever. Sure it didn’t have as much action but it was fucking hilarious and the plot was still good. Can’t wait to watch part 2 tmrw night!!
I never doubted for a second that Paul Rudd could pull off a roll like this since he was in Parks & Recreation season 4
Hey, didn't notice that was old Peggy, I just thought that was Mrs Stark. God, it's things like these that make the MCU feel so rich with backstory and characters.
Samuel Barber how the fuck?
