    I wouldn’t say I grew up poor, however growing up in a Chinese family -my mom always try to get the best deal(because she grew up poor). So, she’d always complain how expensive thing were. I still remember that when we were ordering a pizza, she said how many kilos of flour that we could buy from the price of that pizza. Sometimes these kinda things make you feel guilty and can’t really enjoy eating the food anymore :(

    As a nearly-50-year-old, the antenna thing is definitely an old person thing. Also, pop culture is as accessible as you want to make it. I enjoy kpop personally, although I'm not Army. I think us old people just don't fall as deeply for pop culture as we do when we're young. We've got more experiences under our belt so it's not as intense an experience. I figure I'm not truly old until I stop pounding.

    well, about the mini bar bit, yes, my asian parents told me not to take anything from it although we weren't the poorest of the poor, but i still feel real 'rich' and 'fancaaaaaay' when i take something from a mini bar. in fact, i felt real fulfilled and rich when, after getting my first full-time job (luckily, my first dream job was my first job!), i was all tired and went to a supermarket and bought some stuff without them being on sale, and i KNEW they weren't on sale. i bought stuff just because that's what seemed viable and i didn't worry about whether i could afford it! after so many years in uni, i felt rich just like that, haha! 6 years later, i still feel it from time to time... Asian upbringing's aftereffect? maybe a little.
    btw, is Betterhealth REALLY reliable? i've already had a few therapies and on top of that, live with chronic conditions (ADHD/ASD/etc.) that require life-long management... they gotta be able to handle me and my curiosity and what 'neurotypical' people may call 'overanalytical' or 'pedantic' way of approaching something that could be a learning opportunity...

    A couple things,
    1. Come play Houston
    2. I didn't have cable til I was a senior in HS my antenna game was on point, we even had the tin foil on the rabbit ears.
    3. Just start demanding free range breast milk in your coffee, start the trend by out doing the customization of your coffee.
    4. Chobani oat milk is probably the best flavor, I agree most oat milk does taste like oatmeal. (I'm lactose intolerant, and if I drink milk the NATO will start accusing me of chemical warfare)

    The worker class mentality is so relatable for my family.
    My mom grew up with just a single mother with three kids who was a teacher at a public school. And my father grew up with his brother and only his dad used to work mind you not a well paying job. My mother she somehow became a endrocronologist working with one of the biggest hospitals in India. And my father became the director of plastic surgery at one of the biggest hospitals in India. I mean we have spent 100$ on a dinner like 3 times a month but will still squint at like a 20$ shampoo.
    And of course I love your podcast. The podcasts I tried before weren’t really good but when it comes to your podcast I am hooked and waiting a week is worth it. But maybe 2 podcasts a week pls 😅 ?

  • @nathan87

    Haha nigel man, rich countries don't have special tv transmission physics >< antennas are still in widespread use even in the UK, they're just typically fixed antennas in the attic/on the roof coming down to a wall outlet, not set top antennas. And yes, they are oriented towards the nearest transmitter.
    The reasons for this are 1. Set top antennas aren't fixed, and it's annoying to have to keep reorienting them 2. Small antennas don't have great amplification; this is a particular problem with digital broadcasts because if the signal is too weak you get nothing at all (whereas analogue gradually degrades so a weak signal can be more tolerable). Fixed antennas are often over a metre long which gives much better reception but is obviously not practical unless it's fixed somewhere out of the way. 3. With a set top antenna, chances are the signal is going to be weakened because if the TV is on a lower floor, the line of sight to the transmitter is through a load of walls, other buildings or hills.
    Oh and, oats are freakin delicious. I often drink just a glass of oat milk for that lovely oaty flavour lol.

  • @RoxanneLavender
    @RoxanneLavender 2 роки тому

    In my experience, the only plant-based milk that has a similar texture to full-fat dairy milk and has no taste, because it's better for it to have no taste, is unsweetened almond milk, barista versions. Possibly unsweetened soy milk barista version would be good too. I used to drink gold top dairy milk, it was basically just cream. Now after not having any dairy in a long time i've realised i actually don't want my tea/coffee, etc, to taste like dairy milk, i want it to taste like coffee/tea or whatever, the dairy takes away from the flavour of a good tea or coffee. If you get a really fancy coffee, adding milk to it is just classless, it's something trashy people do, to ruin good coffee like that. And i don't even drink coffee, i'm borderline allergic to it, i get instant urethral stones if i drink it, it's weird, but if i got some really good quality coffee, i'd drink it black. Oat milk is gross. And cold boring countries do stir-up creativity.
