  • I have caught Murray cod on spinnerbaits, but NEVER on a bladed spinner, otherwise known as an inline spinner. This was a first for me. I have caught yellowbelly on a bladed spinner, but never Murray cod.

Thank you so much Michael. We're nit flood effected here thankfully. We have had above average rain, and the river is high and dirty, not nothing like the massive floods that ate a bit north of here.

I absolutely love using spinners, that pretty much all I use for flicking. Cod do hit them, but yellas absolutely smash them.

Robbie fishing, fair few years ago using the Aus spin branded 4 blade spinner bait I think it was red black and yellow one I caught a snag that turned out to be a fish it was a cod that was around 50 pound from memory or over 21kg it was about 130cm long below the Hume weir wall on the back water side the Victorian side if you ever want to make a video there you can put the kayak in there, there is no heavy currents that side and I’ve never ever seen a fish that big ever caught there except that one time I’ve never caught a cod there since only yellow belly and Redfin and trout.

Good vid Robbie, I had a spinner bait with a creature bait on it the same colour as the one you are using , black and red skirt, black creature and hot pink tentacles and claws. I fished it all day at Burrinjuck dam and it caught yellow belly all day long. I had it sitting on the bottom while getting a drink and it still got sucked up by a carp . That colour combo was deadly on that day.

Yeah, those Berkly Guppie things looked interesting indeed. Perhaps keep the worm hook, but try incorporating a small ball sinker inside the actual loop knot? Just a suggestion (could be wrong)? That spot you were fishing was a neat little creek, holds some nice fish.

100% agree, I’ve often got yellas as a by-catch chasing bigger reddies with bigger spinners and I’ve got yellas on spinners targeting them (although I prefer jackels for yellas). Color, flash and vibration will get the fish curious no matter what the species.

@@robbiefishing good work Robbie Luvs how you always willing to try something different. In my local family fishing lake stocked with natives and trout I find the cod respond really well to spinners normally the 5 for $10 from Kmart do the trick. Sometimes I attach them to a beetle spin and they work even better. Basically how I got onto them was I was getting bugger all cod or yelas using traditional spinnerbaits in these smaller family fishing lakes and my mate and someone who is well respected on fishing forum I always go on said try small lures such as spinners or small hardbody lures I'd use for bream and trout etc and ever since been smashing them on the spinners. Been getting few on small spinnerbaits to.
