- Buying a used BMW M4 is cheaper than my Nissan GT-R! Is it better too?
Today I genuinely look at the question, is a BMW M4 a budget Nissan GT-R and worth trading my GT-R for??
Brand new MSRP on my GT-R was $105,000, while this fully loaded M4 Competition was $90,000. On the used marked, this M4 is selling for around $60,000 as a 1 year old car with 13,000 miles. My 4 year old GT-R with 24,000 miles was $68,000.
So buying a BMW M4 is cheaper and you are getting a much newer car than a GT-R, and with more technology.
This car was impressively fun to drive with a powerful twin turbo engine and a lightning quick 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The bucket seats hugged me nice and the whole interior was in mint condition with beautiful leather and carbon fiber everywhere!
The deep blue exterior looked stunning especially with the carbon fiber roof and carbon pieces all over.
The 2018 BMW M4 is more refined than the Nissan GT-R and could truly turn into a comfortable luxury coupe. The GT-R, especially being tuned, was much quicker and raw feeling then the M4. But a tune and some performance parts would turn the M4 into a strong competitor.
I can't say anything bad about the M4! When the time comes, that might be the perfect car to the trade the GT-R for. Full of performance, and comfortable to be a daily!
This car is in beautiful condition and I wish I could add it to my garage right now!

CIVIC SI 047 I dont know what exactly you are talking about . One of Mercedes's kings(e63s) has had so many people excited but the reliability was bad. Bmw their regular cars do have issues . I have had a 535i,x6 and a f80 m3. None of these ever required anything other than oil change scratch repair and small things like wear and tear . Its not the its the owner . I have owned almost 12-13 cars and none of these "unreliable" car bullshit ever happens to me .

@@zawharsamad6826 back in 2016 a guy came in a bmw dealership with a m4 with only 17000miles on the clock with engine bearings failure and the engine had to be replaced under warranty i was there at the dealership getting our x5 oil and filters changed then this thing also had airbag issues which even bmw recalled and on my another visit to the same dealership there was another m4 with just 25k miles and the a/c was not working after the dealer diagnosed the car the a/c evaporater sensor had to be replaced under warranty and its impossible to drive a car here in the middle east without a/c in summer when temps are 50c and i dont even want to discuss about the x5 i had which i sold last nov

Hey .. Good Video . But I would like to know the differences more precise.. Like the Steering .. Who Turns in more quickly with less steering movement from the Center point? So the faster Steering .. Who feels more Stiff in curves , more Flat? And Overall Sharpness in Suspension and Handling? I really would like to know this since I havent got the opportunity to Test both myself. So give me some real Vibes in words .. Thanks !
Hmm both are pretty responsive. M4 might have a bit less body roll and tighter steering. GTR however is much more rigid and has a tighter suspension. GTR will be faster overall and has much more character. M4 is softer feeling for normal driving and slower but has good steering

M4 owner here : downpipe 800 bucks, Tune 450?ish - extra 100whp/ ":) problem is, no traction in 1st and 2nd :-) Sat in a GTR. DID not like rear seats at all, and i always travel with my wife and a kid. BUT in few years I'd like to add either 997 turbo to the stable or 2016+ GTR :-) nice review...! as always!

Love the Gtr and was in the market for one when shopping my F80 M3. The M3 is not as raw or as fast as the Gtr in stock form but is a really fast and comfortable daily driver with a better interior, and with minor mods can out perform the Gtr. You would not be disappointed. Bootmod3 and the tuners at Pro Tuning Freaks will become your best friend. The Gtr is a race all the time vehicle that becomes manaughtness when you want to relax and enjoy the drive. Servicing the M4/M3 is cheaper than the Gtr also.
is the m4 really slippy as people say? is it really that bad in the slightest bit of rain?
That would really come down to the tires. I wouldnt worry about it. The traction control is pretty good. And if it's anything like my Supra, it does fine
I sold my M4 F82 and bought an GTR Black Edition. M4 Pros are little to none fuel consumption compared to the GTR but also little to none drive feel, super car feel or poweroutput. At the end its personal preference :)

Yes I recently traded in my A90 Supra which I loved it was moded with catless downpipe bootmod3 stage 2 aggressive tune and Injen intake system with ceramic tints 20% and love the 2018 M4 Comp my spec is black with red interior and loaded 87msrp with tons of options but man I do miss the Z4 LoL she’ll always have a special place in my ❤️
Nice! Pretty much the same car, just a little bigger and more usable space! The red interior is a great way to do it, I'm sure in person that's sick looking!
Good choice brotha! Gtr is becoming out dated. The M4 is not only pretty powerful but it’s comfort is amazing and once it has fbo tuned on e85 it becomes a little monster. I recently bought myself an f80 m3 and I was totally impressed.
Not a fan of the dark brown color for the seats, but other than that, that’s a great looking car for sure 👌🏼

You can’t compare power of a stock zcp m4 to a bolt on GTR. I had a hard time deciding 18’ m4 or a 15+ GTR I went with the m4 b/c for bolt on to bolt on they can be equally fast. The F8x platform has come some way since the car came out. Downpipes, e85 tune will have you right next to a bolt on GTR.
Both cars are limited by stock motor and dct transmission clutches. Either way you can’t go wrong. Unless you have a big wallet and wanna make 1200+hp GTR is the better platform. And the only flaw the f8x’s have is the crank hub issue.

Had both. Both amazing cars and each have things better then the other. Overall the winner for me is the GTR but still lots of love for my old m3 f80. Honestly can’t go wrong with either. If you want a more balanced car and less attention get the bmw. If you want more of a Race car feel and all the quarks of super cars go for the gtr. Gtr power and just the iconic features are just purely amazing.
You're exactly right on that! Both certainly are fantastic. BMW offers much more smooth ride and class, while the GTR is raw! I feel like when I'm older an M4 would be a great car to have when I want extra comfort lol

Why you make it sound like it’s such a downgrade to go to a M4? Depending on what your looking for the M4 is level higher like interior quality, color options and tech. But.... as German I know what I am talking about. ;) Because it's the country of the BMW. Of course the famous German tuner G Power can upgrade some of the cars in real GTR killer for a 800 HP kit for (price dated 15th Feb 19 by G Power) additional 21.000 €. Cheers. But for the car price and tuning costs you can do that with a GTR too :). About the quality... there are a lot of carbon fibre parts and technology stuff like head up system with a lot of comfortable extras (weight!!!) and still its a sportscar with with no handbuilt engine/transmission. I know there a bit about BMW because my GF is working for them in the research section :). So no bad feelings ;)

O'RLY? My M4 is 570 bhp and is my daily. I've driven it in ice and heavy snow. Maybe need better tyres ;) I've smashed the granny out of mine in the wet with no issues. Cold weather is worse than wet weather.

I know im super late and dont know if you've pull the trigger on anything yet but I've gone through a similar thought process. GT-R was always a dream car for me and then I got to ride in a few and then drive a few then I started seeing more and more of them. I still love them but it's like that old phrase, never meet your heros. The GT-R is still an awesome car but after I finally got to spend significant time with one, I was kind of let down. Unless Im all out in it or at the track it wasn't my top choice to drive/daily. Its a track weapon and im not rich so it would be my daily and I'd want a little more luxury and features for that price point but at the GT-R price point you cant find more performance.
Coming from owning a few turbo BMWs I am a little bias so when it came to the M4, I just cant beat the bang for buck. It's not the fastest, not the most luxurious, not the most aggressive, not the most flashy but it is the best overall package IMO. The prices right now are just about bottomed out. You get a comp package fully loaded and you will more than likely not lose a dime on it for a while. M cars often go up in price significantly if you have the right specs. I have no idea how the GT-R market will look. If they will release a new generation ever or not. Tune, DPs, and exhaust and your at 500whp but you do the same to a GT-R too and pick up 100whp so kind of a moot point. Again I'm not loaded so I also look at normal people things like insurance as well lol. A little cheaper on the M4. Actually shockingly cheap for what I expected to pay. I'm getting old though. The S55 engine is almost bulletproof. One potential issue that we aren't sure if its really an issue with spinning the crank hub.
What lead me to the M4 though was the balance. Its a car that will let you take it to the limit and teach you a lesson if you mess up. It can be a aggressive and a handful with the right settings. Almost no tire combination is going to get you peak traction lol but when it kicks out, you can control every aspect of that chassis. Point and shoot. its comfortable enough to take the lady out and not have to scream to talk or apologize for every bump in the road, its got all the standard modern tech plus extra stuff, great audio decent nav, nice connected app features, Sounds great from the inside but no where near GT-R glory on the outside. Its subtle but it still makes a statement. As lame as it sounds, BMW NA also has great benefits for those who actually use their cars as intended. BMW CCA autocross tours/seasons, track events, owners events and exclusives, and the overall owernship experience if you are willing to tie in to the whole owners benefits things. Trips, deals, discounts and stuff that not many people check out. Not sure if Nissan does that.
So overall, the GT-R is a legend, M4 is a legend of a lesser degree but still respected but I think you would get more bang for the buck in the M4. Cant help but smile when I drive the M4 in either modes.

I'm guessing that's the reason whoever ordered that from factory, realised that was a bad decision and traded it.
Add a DSC suspension plug-n-play controller to your '14. I did on mine and it makes the GTR a far more pleasurable daily.

Scott Stolper the seats arent the only thing in the interior . Theres way too much plastic and it doesnt feel premium. Buttons feel cheap . The texture of the material feels cheap.

Not bad either. Way better build quality and on e85 and fbo these guys are getting close to 600 whp and 600+ wheel torque. Stock turbos. If you get it contact f80 Paul for a custom e85 map. He has a 10.5 seq fbo M3. They can run full e85 on stock fuel system! Cooling system is good till about 750 whp. And fuel about the same. Best part you can tune these with iPhone or Android lol. Bootmod3!
It's a lot more forgiving and easier to drive than a GTR. More of a daily driver instead of a track car that you can drive on public roads which is what a GTR is. Love GTR's BTW.
How about reliability, this is my only concern with bmw , can he pass 180000 mile without spending. $75000 to fix it
Bmw reliability has been quite good in the last 10 years.....top 10 car manufacturers in reliability......kind of an old stigma now I have 335i and has been bulletproof
I own a BMW. You're so correct that you save so much getting it used over new, but then the maintenance issues start and your M4 will be in the BMW maintenance bay more than its in your garage. My BMW visit absolutely beautiful, but I'm scared to drive it because I'm worried about the next check engine light.

I love BMW ND I own one too but if your gtr is DBA 2013 above then I would not trade it for m4 or even m5. Just my opinion.

All BMW M cars and BMW in general have way to many issues. I've owned Mercedes, BMW and Audi and out of all the German cars Mercedes is the most reliable.

depends what you want... Gtr is no doubt faster, having said that i own 2015 M4 with manual, and i can say is more Fun, plus few M3 e46, so they are definatly Fun cars and they demand attention and some skills to drive it like it was meant,

The M4 is an awesome car. I really do like it. But the GTR does have that extra special ram driving experience and crazy power. I could see getting an M4 one day when I want more refinements.
I'll take the M4 over the GTR any day. Much more luxuriousand sporty/good looking. Also it's a beast and a tune, bolt ons and good tires could wake this beast even more. I may be a bit bias though since I'm for German cars anyday

I would be more interested in an Audi, Porsche, Mercedes if you are coming from the GTR. I do love the M6 though!

In my opinion stay with the GTR the BMW will be worth way less and you won’t be able to trade it for another high end sports car as it will depreciate tremendously
If you live in a country where the roads are full of crap, it rains 80% of the time, and you have icy/snowy winters, GTR hands down. M4 is when you live somewhere warm and sunny.
Not a bad point. Winter tires will really help both cars. But the AWD is fantastic for that sort of thing. I love how I can floor it in the rain and it still hooks up!

Considering the value of the GTR and how it stays higher longer, and how much of an awesome car it is, I'd honestly stick with that. The BMW is beautiful, but it doesn't have the curb appeal of the GTR.

Depreciation is much higher in the M4.. the GT-Rs keep their values... right now you can scoop up at m3/m4 for under $40k... plus the Ms are so common... you hardly ever see a GT-R on the road
Matthew Pengtakoon depends on where you live . I have like 5-6 gtrs in my neighbourhood . GTRs are basic cars nowadays . M cars are basic too . But they just make more sense to own than a GTR.

I just cant understand how ho can be so impressed by the m4's acceleration. Its weird if he daily drives a 650 hp gtr wich already accelerates in stock term from 0 to 100 kmh in just 2.8 sec.
