LEARN HOW TO MAKE A TASTY CRISPY LEMON TOFU RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA (that's how's it going in Cantonese)! What's that saying about when life throws you lemons? Join me in this episode and learn how to make a tasty crispy lemon tofu recipe today!
    Ingredients:
    350g extra firm tofu
    2 tsp soy sauce
    2 tsp maple syrup
    1+2 tsp toasted sesame oil
    1+1/2 cup AP flour
    3/4 cups + 2 tbsp water
    2 1/2 cups avocado oil
    3 pieces garlic
    1 lemon
    2 tbsp cane sugar
    1/4 tsp turmeric
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp potato starch
    1 tsp white sesame seeds
    Directions:
    1. Pat dry the extra firm tofu with a paper towel. Then, break it apart in to bite sized pieces and place in a bowl. Add the soy sauce, maple syrup, and 1 tsp toasted sesame oil. Then, gently toss to coat and set aside
    2. Set up two plates - one dry station and one wet station. Add 1 cup AP flour to one of the plates. Add 1/2 cup AP flour to the other plate along with 3/4 cups of water and use a fork to dissolve the flour
    3. Add half of the tofu to the dry station and coat. Then transfer to the wet station and coat. Transfer back to the dry station and coat again. Set the breaded tofu bites aside. Repeat with the remaining tofu
    4. Add the avocado oil to the frying pan and heat on medium heat for a few minutes
    5. Carefully place in the breaded tofu (fry in two batches) and fry for 2-4mins. Then, carefully turn over the tofu and fry for another 2-3mins. Carefully transfer to a cooling rack. Repeat with the remaining tofu
    6. Grate the garlic and juice the lemon
    7. Heat up a sauté pan to medium heat. Add in 2 tsp toasted sesame oil followed by the garlic and cook for about 1min. Add in the cane sugar, turmeric, and salt. Cook for about 1min, then add in the lemon juice and give the pan a good stir
    8. Make a slurry by combining the potato starch with 2 tbsp of water. Pour the slurry into the pan while stirring. If the sauce thickens too quickly, add some more water as needed
    9. Transfer in the crispy tofu, turn off the heat, and toss to coat
    10. Plate and garnish with some white sesame seeds

Your channel is amazing to me, until I started watching a little over a year ago I’d never tried tofu, now I love it, I’m not a vegan but your meals prove that you don’t only have to be vegan to enjoy vegan food, the imagination you put into your recipes never disappoints, my son who is vegan cooks a lot of your recipes also, thank you brother

I made this fried tofu recipe yesterday for a dinner party and it was absolutely delicious. I added lemon zest and I doubled the glaze amount. Just wonderful - everybody loved it, even the meat-eaters.

If you want it even more lemony - use an organic lemon and zest it before juicing.
Then add it to the pan after the garlic when making the sauce. Will make the end result that little more fragrant 💛🍋

Instead of flour try instant potato flakes instead. If you want crisp this will do it for sure. You can even crush the flakes a bit for more coverage.

We almost finished the whole block of tofu because of your irresistible recipe! The leftover flour and marinate can be used to make fritters (in taste similar to chinese fried bread); combine marinate with contents of dry and wet station, add a 1/4 cup sesame seeds and mix, plus extra seasoning if desired (e.g. hot chili oil (hint), soy sauce...) and deep fry by the spoonful 🙂

Lay Ho There! We made this for dinner the other night and are so grateful for your recipes! I baked them instead of frying, which was a mistake as I didn't have sprayable oil and these just came out hard with dried flour in the cracks. Frying would have been preferable. However the overall flavor was amazing and we couldn't stop eating it! My lemon was a little dry so I added the zest as per another reviewer's suggestion and it punched up the flavor. They smelled so good in the sauce that I couldn't wait and ended up neglecting to add additional water to loosen it up so they were dryer than in the video. But again, THANK YOU for your wonderful videos and amazing recipes!

For many recipes, it isn't the ingredients that make the dish special, it's the techniques used. I'm definitely trying this one! Meantime, sometime I'd love to see a plant-based version of Ken Hom's Lemon Chicken recipe. I made that dish before I was vegan and it was exquisite, not cloyingly sweet like at many restaurants. Easy to find the recipe on the web. Perhaps could work with pressed tofu or seitan. But the velveting technique--aquafaba instead of egg white? The key for Ken's lemon chicken is that the protein isn't browned. He suggests serving it with cold sesame broccoli on the side (the broccoli being blanched), I guess because the broccoli has some crunch to contrast with the soft lemon glazed protein.

The recipe seems pretty simple yet flavorful and yummy. I love that there is not much prep work, you can make it easily with most of the ingrediants you have in your cup board or at least for me this is true. A good easy recipe for a single person to make.

Another fantastic recipe from you! I'm going to try this in the air fryer, though, as I don't like to deep fry. :)

I tried your spicy orange tofu and absolutely loved it so very keen to try this.
One question though. What would you suggest as the best gluten free substitute for flour to get a similar result? A gluten free flour mix? Potato starch? Cornflour?
I'm really keen to try this but can't have the flour unfortunately!

I adore lemon anything! Thank you! It is hard to resist eating all your tofu before adding the sauce! I add malabar pepper to finish , though but before adding lemon sauce. Make a double batch!

I have to admit that in the past I've had mixed results trying to bread tofu using just flour. This has definitely inspired me to try again.
