  • (Sorry had to re-upload) Welcome back. I want to organise my workshop space better so why not have a better organised tool and miscellaneous "things" storage area. So I made this cabinet. With videoing it took me 2 weeks to make. I counted all the pieces I made for the project. They came to 197 so it's not a quick job. Everything bar the hardware is fabricated.
I chose the colour when I was in a brave mood.
I just need now to rearrange my workshop to fit this in :)

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

I never tire watching your videos Scott, always a great tutorial and end result. I really like your industrial retro style. Let’s people see how much work is actually put in by hand. Mass produced is not always the best, quicker but not better. Your projects will certainly stand up to the test of time! Fantastic as usual!

Scott Turner Hi, what's the wall you're using on the square tubing? And do you have a video on how you made your bender? That was a very interesting little tool, I'd love to learn more. Thanks.

Like the squaring by the diagonals - many builders either forget that important check, or leave it out.
Rather like the juxtaposition of the paint and staining against the more industrial handles :-)
I wouldn't use wooden drawers for heavier, or oily, tools but for anything else they definitely have advantages, like easily gluing in dividers and adding lift-out inserts and compartments :-)
For the next one, I would suggest perhaps welding in some of the rebar across the end recesses so tools can either be hung directly, or make up some "S"or "P" hooks to sit on the rods. Maybe a power outlet at one end - I use some weather resistant outlets, that have a lift up flap, in the garage as they prevent dust and other crap getting into the sockets?
I assume the height is the same as your other portable workbench, so you can sit things level across both?
Oh, and you talk funny (I'm in Auckland) ;-)

      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  5 років тому +1

Thanks for the feedback Gordo. I talk funny! I lived in Christchurch for 14 months (Didn't I cop some crap!) back when the Aussies last won the world cup Rugby (Haven't won a game since mind you). Good times :)

Scott, great project. I like the industrial look of the exposed flanges for mounting the plywood panels. If you wanted a couple more inches of drawer length, the flanges could be mounted toward the outside edge of the square tubing, and the panel mounted outside the flange as well. The handles are great!

Fantastic job. I agree with a few of the others here- I might have used something like butcher block for the top, but I guess it depends on what you’ll be doing on the plywood top you have. You combined my favorite color- orange- with a great stain color and even better workmanship. I’m inspired. Thank you for sharing this.

I got a kick out of the wheels being welded on to the post feet. I was most curious as to the insert that may have been used or the type of wheel connection, and BAM! It just got man-welded. That cabinet looked better than any I'd ever seen on the market. Really nice job on its build and its beauty.

Thanks Rowland! Yes tools are great no doubt about it, but the best tool is your will to do the best you can with what you have. This can be made with a cheap welder, an angle grinder, a saw, drill and some chisels. But yes, pretty impossible without the minimum.

Really nice build. I'm not a welder but I know a great weld when I see one, and man those are nice welds! My only complaint is the top being screwed down rather than being attached from the bottom. They aren't super attractive and the countersunk holes are just going to collect stuff all the time. But that's just a nit pick and I would give you 99/100!

I'm new to your Chanel - at first I thought it was a bit indulgent to make such a nice workshop bench lol, but I see now that you are making a piece of art which is very cool.

My hardware cabinet will be much more indulgent when I do that. Well, I like the workshop equipment that looks vintage, back in the day when style was a big part of design requirements. It's a passion. Thanks Pete!

Practice makes perfect, never indulgence. I like his work, it's worth my time to watch his videos a few times each.
