Sliding Door Tool Cabinet

  • I couldn't decide between pegboard or french cleats, so I thought I'd go with both!
I'm finally getting settled into my new shop space. Old habits die hard though, and I'm really trying to maximize the use of the space, even though I have more room than I did previously. With that in mind, I wanted a tool cabinet for the most-used tools so they could be easily accessible. I also wanted some hidden storage for some of my consumables like glues, finishes, gloves, etc.
To help me achieve what I was looking to do, I found a cool set of tandem door hinges from Rockler which allows you to have two doors at different depths in the same cabinet. Really nifty!
I also liked the sliding door feature I built into my old shop cabinet so I reintroduced that here for the very often used items so they would be quickly accessible.

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

I can't get over how easily you made the sliding doors. I made a cabinet to hold storage containers for small parts. It never occurred to me to put on sliding peg board doors. A perfect solution to store my clamps. Thanks for your video.

From one carpenter to another, Great Work. Nice use of space. Like the way you use the small wood pieces with dowels to hold your tools. I use that method to make invisible wall hangers for medical equipment and hanging shelves so you don't see the wall hangers. One 45degree cut piece on the wall facing up horizontally, and the other 45degree cut piece attached to the piece going onto the wall horizontally hanging down. Sort of like a blind dado.
    Thanks for a nice video.
