This is one of the best videos I've seen on reel mowing because it peels back the curtain and shows just how involved things can be. Good for you my friend, transparency always wins.
Thanks so much Allyn. It was a fun piece of content to create. Like anything, the deeper you get into reel mowing, the more that nerd hat starts to go on. All in the name of getting that tight cut. 😎
Very professional Ron! Good job! Hey I noticed you got a one of those fancy potato jet tripods! I just picked up a carbon fiber manfrotto tripod myself:) Game changer. I never knew having a nice tripod would make such a HUGE difference in the filming process! Now I’m a believer that a good tripod is one of the most important pieces of film gear, never going back to those amazon ones!
Thanks George! Yessir. I absolutely love the flow tech. After my camera almost fell over 3 times making the shrub-cutting video, I said enough. It makes getting shots sooo much easier. The legs are great but once you couple with an aktiv8 head, it’s magic. Seconds to level the camera without messing up the shot. Cameras will come and go, but can’t beat a good tripod. 🤓
Really good video Ron and very easy to follow with the explanations and visuals. I don't have a reel mower "yet" but looks like I'll be in a good hands when I do, thanks to your content. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Jeff. If I had to do it all over again I would go for a magnetic unit. I guess the one upside to showing the process with this one is people that don’t have a magnetic accu-gage can see how it’s done. 😎
Super helpful! - Any reason you folded the test paper in half? Always seen most folks do it unfolded.. - How much should the reel be contacting the bedknife? I.e how do you know if it’s too much contact?
I too have issues getting each side of the GM1000 to match exactly. I've considered getting a second AccuGage...one for each side. Rich people problems.
Hahahha. That *would* be more efficient LG. I'm Would speed things up considerably. 😎 Granted we'd look like crazy people but the reel mower likely accomplished that already.
Now after all that was done how do you keep the mower from scalping the turf in spots during the mow. Wheel bearings are good and nothing is loose the mower is new with only 6.4 hours of use but it scalping in certain spots mainly during the clean up while turning. Height of cut is at .150
Do you use the same principle on a toro greensmaster flex floating head mower,do you have your gauge from back roller to front roller or from front roller to back of your cutting head?
Great Video Ron! I’ve been following you since I was gifted a True Cut and over seeded with Arden 15. Hope to add a Toro this year! Which out of the 2 reel mower would you say is the easiest to adjust for height of cut?
Heya Hercules. The TruCut is much easier and faster to change the height of cut with but it's really comparing apples and oranges. The Toro is designed for the height of cut to be locked in so that there's little to no deviation between mowing sessions. You won't be unhappy with either mower. The TruCut is an amazing machine too. Both do a great job on turf when setup properly.
Ron, 2 question. Do you like the Full Gage-Guard on the Accu-GAGE, and would you have preferred the magnetic hands free option? I just received my new JD 220 ECUT and need a gauge. Thanks for the videos and carrying PGR in your store
Hi Gordo. I've not adjusted the height of cut of a John Deere to be able to tell you. It should be similar to the Greensmaster. Sorry I'm not more help on this one.

Thanks Ron. Since I been learning about reelmowers. Nobody never showed how it really worked. Setting the height. AWESOME 👌..
Glad you found it useful Darrell. I tried to keep it short while providing as much info as I could. Thanks for watching.

Excellent video Ron! Awesome camera work too! I saw your post on IG of your camera setup for this video. Awesome!
Thanks Lawnengineer. Using multiple cameras made editing it a lot easier/faster. Fun project. Thanks for watching.
The gauge is not cheap,,,but absolutely worth every penny.
I totally agree Frankie. It’s not took you up very often but when you it reminds you why you spent the money.

Thanks so much On The Lawn. I'm glad you found the content useful. Please let me know if I can help with anything.
Ron you gotta get the magnetic accugage! That looks painful trying to hold it and adjust at the same time! Great video man
Thanks Jeff. If I had to do it all over again I would go for a magnetic unit. I guess the one upside to showing the process with this one is people that don’t have a magnetic accu-gage can see how it’s done. 😎
where’s the link? i’ve been trying to find one for ages now!
#1 good information ron!
You are the first! 👍😎 Thanks for watching.
Great Tutorial! A++
Thanks LG. It was fun to make. Thanks for watching. Goal was to get it done in under 4 minutes. Juuuuust made it.

Would it be possible to cut grass at two inches with this mower . Great channel .
With the TruCut mower, yes. Not with the Greensmaster. The max height of cut for the mower in this video is 1.25". Appreciate you watching.
@@RonHenry Thanks for reply ,much appreciated .
Anytime!
This is a really good vdo.
Thanks Robert. Appreciate you watching.

Back of cutting head to front roller Michael.
@@RonHenry Thanks are there any videos of adjusting a floating head mower?

Ron Henry yeah I was getting ready to ask that , if it was comparing Apples to oranges? Thanks
Yeah Hercules. They’re very different animals. Both great though.

I've never used the magnetic version to be able to comment. I can see how it would be better though. Would make for handsfree adjustment.
This may come across as moronic but I do not understand how to read the guage. How do you know when you are at say 5/8"?
No moronic at all Marc F: Here's your answer! ua-cam.com/video/SEvJbzAK0Dc/v-deo.html
@@RonHenry Thanks! I enjoy watching and learning from you.
@@Phxphenom thank you! for the question. It's the reason this video exists. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
Does the accu Gage work on a Mclane ?
Not sure on that one Luis. I’ve never tried an accugage on a McLane
Thank you for getting back to me
How to adjust height of cut John Deere 2653b ?

Hello sir great job .I wish to talk to you and I am more lurning .
Always welcome. Thanks for watching.
Not a reel man (didn't say "real") 😂 Nevertheless I love the look of reel cutting, interesting to see how to setup.
Thanks for watching man. I think you meant to say you’re not a reel man YET! 😎
Fun fact my grampa made the company and I work there
That's awesome! :-)
