How to Adjust Height of Cut on a Reel Mower - ACCU-GAGE® Demonstration

  • This video shows how to quickly adjust the height of cut on a reel mower. The example shown is a Toro Greensmaster 1600 but the principles apply to other reel mowers as well. While it might seem intimidating at first, the process is actually fairly simple. Let's get started with adjusting cutting height.
    First ensure the reel to bedknife clearance is correct. You can check this by seeing if your mower will cut paper. If it doesn't, adjust the bedbar screw to slightly decrease the tolerance between the reel and bed knife. This is followed by unlocking the height adjustment bars and turning the jack screws to set the height of cut. Verify your height of cut adjustment using an Accu-Gage. There are other methods for setting the height, but using an Accu-Gage will produce the most accurate result.

    This is one of the best videos I've seen on reel mowing because it peels back the curtain and shows just how involved things can be. Good for you my friend, transparency always wins.

      Thanks so much Allyn. It was a fun piece of content to create. Like anything, the deeper you get into reel mowing, the more that nerd hat starts to go on. All in the name of getting that tight cut. 😎

    Very professional Ron!
    Good job!
    Hey I noticed you got a one of those fancy potato jet tripods!
    I just picked up a carbon fiber manfrotto tripod myself:)
    Game changer.
    I never knew having a nice tripod would make such a HUGE difference in the filming process!
    Now I’m a believer that a good tripod is one of the most important pieces of film gear, never going back to those amazon ones!

      Thanks George! Yessir. I absolutely love the flow tech. After my camera almost fell over 3 times making the shrub-cutting video, I said enough.
      It makes getting shots sooo much easier. The legs are great but once you couple with an aktiv8 head, it’s magic. Seconds to level the camera without messing up the shot. Cameras will come and go, but can’t beat a good tripod. 🤓

    I too have issues getting each side of the GM1000 to match exactly. I've considered getting a second AccuGage...one for each side. Rich people problems.

      Hahahha. That *would* be more efficient LG. I'm Would speed things up considerably. 😎 Granted we'd look like crazy people but the reel mower likely accomplished that already.

    Ron you gotta get the magnetic accugage! That looks painful trying to hold it and adjust at the same time! Great video man

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jeff. If I had to do it all over again I would go for a magnetic unit. I guess the one upside to showing the process with this one is people that don’t have a magnetic accu-gage can see how it’s done. 😎

    How to adjust height of cut John Deere 2653b ?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Gordo. I've not adjusted the height of cut of a John Deere to be able to tell you. It should be similar to the Greensmaster. Sorry I'm not more help on this one.

    Great Video Ron! I’ve been following you since I was gifted a True Cut and over seeded with Arden 15. Hope to add a Toro this year! Which out of the 2 reel mower would you say is the easiest to adjust for height of cut?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +3

      Heya Hercules. The TruCut is much easier and faster to change the height of cut with but it's really comparing apples and oranges. The Toro is designed for the height of cut to be locked in so that there's little to no deviation between mowing sessions. You won't be unhappy with either mower. The TruCut is an amazing machine too. Both do a great job on turf when setup properly.

    • @herculesyoung3819
      @herculesyoung3819 3 роки тому +1

      Ron Henry yeah I was getting ready to ask that , if it was comparing Apples to oranges? Thanks

      Yeah Hercules. They’re very different animals. Both great though.

    Ron, 2 question. Do you like the Full Gage-Guard on the Accu-GAGE, and would you have preferred the magnetic hands free option? I just received my new JD 220 ECUT and need a gauge. Thanks for the videos and carrying PGR in your store

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 роки тому +2

      I've never used the magnetic version to be able to comment. I can see how it would be better though. Would make for handsfree adjustment.
