My best friend, Robert, got me into AVGN back in 2007. He was OBSESSED. Well, his favorite Nintendo game to talk (incessantly) about was "A Boy and His Blob". He was beyond excited for the Wii remake. Anyway, Robert passed suddenly in 2016, and it's never been the same watching these without having a discussion with him about them afterwards. I'm watching twice for you, Rob. Miss you buddy

Loved this game as a kid. I always preferred the quirkier interesting games like this and Maniac Mansion. I used to play with my whole family so we all helped out like a team, even my grandpa offered advice while we played Nintendo. As a family team it was cool because you could get stuck and then dad would take over and figure the hard stuff out. I remember this being my grandpa's favorite game and my grandma's favorite was Maniac Mansion. They always figured out how to do the puzzles. Miss those guys. RIP

I used the Game Genie to explore hidden areas of a lot of NES games, including this one. In this game in particular, there are hidden chambers that were never meant to be part of the game. Inside a bunch of rooms, the programmers hid a poem about the blob turning into a shape to help a kid. You have to fall through the floor in the right place to reach it, but if you don't have the game genie then you just die. I've looked it up but nobody seems to know about this!

Great review, but in case you missed the "pun" for the cinnamon jelly beans: cinnamon is the flavor used for "Red Hots" candies, hence a cinnamon jellybean gives you a "Red Hot" blowtorch. I loved the puns used in the transformation choices! But the couple times I tried this game, I lost badly. Definitely a unique experience, which you encapsulated perfectly in your review.
