Only yesterday evening I got stuck in a traffic jam behind a burning VW bus, the whole back was on fire.... It was a T2, seemingly well restored.... When 3 mn later the fire brigade arrived on the scene, the bus was a complete wreck already. Thumps up for that fire extinguisher!!! Your bus is really a looker!
Your two great finds are the New England arms double barrel great find easily worth hundreds to the right guy. I also purchased a Bridgeport Vice last year for my neighbor $200 bucks and he said it was worth $450 easy ,We have a small community machine shop at my neighbors and we all contribute and when I brought in the BP Mill Vice he was absolutely ecstatic at that price..If the weighs are good and it clamps even they are worth their weight in gold... Precision Tooling. Many Blessings , SMR
I knew someone who used to take things like your brass findels and "make" "antique" canes, no one was the wiser. You know me though, I certainly wouldn't suggest that. I love the fire-extinguisher, it would be a great place to also hide a valuable of some kind perhaps. Great ideas and great finds. Congratulations.
That is a 'hammer' shotgun. That square shaft is where one of the two external hammers should be. Note the circular wear mark of the hammer motion. The square shaft is driven by a spring. Earlier muzzle-loading shotguns would have a nipple on the back of the barrel for a percussion cap. When changing the design to a breechloader the fixed barrel was replaced with a hinged barrel and the percussion cap nipple was replaced with a firing pin. Now, instead of hitting a percussion cap to ignite the black powder, the hammer hits the firing pin which then hits the primer of the shotgun shell. Later the hammers and firing pins were moved inside the main body of the action to make a 'boxlock' design. The "New England Arms Co" was a trade name used by Sears and some other sellers for inexpensive guns made by various companies. My guess is that it dates to the early 1900's.
Yep. And it is certainly not worth restoring, but I am sure he will find a novel use for the barrels, at least. We have a set of old barrels mounted on a plate that we shoot bottle rockets out of. They say 'Chicago Long Range Wonder' on them.
the shotgun looked like old percussion type , the I beam good find ....my dad had drinking Buddy IN Ca owned scrap metal & recycle place used to save the good stuff once per week we look tru it ......
Fire extinguisher looks great. I'm not sure that stand was originaly for fire side tools, I've seen them often used as walking stick stands. Make sure it's a repro as they can sell for a price to dress hallways in period homes. and stick collectors like them too.
I had a Schwinn in 1976. Mine did not have a removable sissy bar. I say yours is 60s or early 70's. I used to put around 150 - 200 miles a week on my bike living in the Mojave Desert, out in Hinkley California. My backyard was 50 miles long by 50 miles wide & nothing but desert and mountains!
Cool yard sale finds.....our town wide yard sales......people mistake garage sale for garbage sale.....because people try to sell what I would throw away......except for a good used Farnicastaff.!!
The drill hammer was a good buy. I have one almost exactly like it. It might just need brushes. If those spline drive bits are in good condition, any two of them are worth $40.
i had like 6 of the older fire ext i still have one that uses water and you blow it up with air for pressure i think there was 4 or 5of that kins all got stolin thru the years for, scrap big business in this town with thiefs now there building a housing project behind my house so there will be nothing but trouble no more sitting out here at nights 150 apartments for drug rehabs
That’s a nice vice all you need is a few parts I would make it back to a shotgun it’s the receiver that’s hard to get and it’s ther you would be surprised how easy to fix shotgun
Great stuff! ... I'm afraid of yard sales ... I know I'd come home with stuff that is usable but even though I build a barn out in the back yard ... space is tight ... if You know of anyone that collects Playboys magazines... I have 40 plus years ... takes up a ton of space ... they need to go! Anyway... had a propeller driven race car as a kid ... lots of fun till the prop came off ... talk about RPMs ... it screamed for a couple minutes... got cherry red and seized.. end of hobby ... thanks for the video ... always interesting!
Hope you have a young helper who will absorb a lot of your knowledge. And enjoys mechanical things like you do.gifted mechanical folks are hard to find.
The New England was a Sears trade name double barrel side by side hammer shotgun made by The Meriden Fire Arms Co., formerly A. Fryeberg, starting in 1905. The buttpad should have the Fryeberg eagle with no lettering in the scroll under the eagle. Everyone I've seen has had fluid steel barrels but I'm sure Damascus steel is also possible. None of these were nitro proofed so only black powder low velocity shells should be used if the gun is deemed shootable by a gunsmith.
Awsome finds once again. Are you going to have to put RV type latches on the drawers in the hutch? BTW, the fire extinguisher detail is one of the coolest ideas I've seen.
A bit late (as usual) BUT. always seemed to me that bike manufactures had it backwards: i.e. low center bar for girls? high center bar for boys! Am I overthinking the mechanics? Don't think so. Still addicted to the Mustie1 channel.
HI MUSTIE1 IAM SUBCRIBER FROM SCOTLAND I STARTED WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS BY WATCHING THE POLICE VAN AND NOW I AM HOOKED GOOD JOB I HAVE TO WATCHING TWICE AS I AM REGISTERED BLIND BUT IT IS WORTH IT FRANK COOK
Before you do anything rash with that old gun, do some research. Except for the wood and the hammers most of the gun appears to be there. My guess is that it is an old muzzle loading percussion shotgun, with the percussion nipples still attached. At least one of the lock plates is still on it. Springs, hammers, and parts for the thing can still be purchased through Dixie gun works an several other muzzle loading shops that sell that kind of stuff. Take it to a gun show. You might be surprised what you could get for it by just packing it in over your shoulder. Before I started welding or soldering or whatever on that barrel you better check to see if either or both of the barrels have a charge of black powder and buckshot in them. They might go boom.
“Down in da basement of some drunk lady’s house” lol

Amazing how everything started

Is that barrel "Damascus", I couldn't tell. I have my Great Grandfathers Remington (circa 1870) that is Damascus twist....
Yep. And it is certainly not worth restoring, but I am sure he will find a novel use for the barrels, at least. We have a set of old barrels mounted on a plate that we shoot bottle rockets out of. They say 'Chicago Long Range Wonder' on them.
We had a wagon like that in mid 60’s. Used it hard and it took the abuse.
the shotgun looked like old percussion type , the I beam good find ....my dad had drinking Buddy IN Ca owned scrap metal & recycle place used to save the good stuff once per week we look tru it ......
Nice finds
Hey Mustie1, Cool garage sale finds an good job on the bus....

Your Kama is amazing
Many Blessings...SMR
The shotgun barrel would make good exhaust pipes. Especially on a 2stroke with smoke blowing out the barrels.

Spline shank hammer drill, prob. 11202 bosch
