It's always frustrating when sellers don't have stuff priced and look up the current "selling" price on eBay, instead of "sold" comps...🙄 Like all of their stuff is worth millions of dollars! 🤣🤣
It is frustrating when people don’t have prices for items. I can understand not pricing cards since the market changes so much but if you are going to take the time to look on eBay at least go by the right comps, lol. $35 for cards that are selling for $10-$15.
I agree. Leads me to wonder why some people don't have the prices ready? Might have been a good idea for him to price out before hand then section them out. That's what I would do. 😁
@@pickingandpunching That's a lame excuse. The collectibles market changes all the time but dramatic changes don't happen in a second. Physical items take time to move, so prices take time to change. This is not the stock market where shares of stocks are technically digital tokens that change hands at near the speed of light. The dude didn't wanna do his homework.
@@rogueinvestor2375 I agree with you. I will say the card market might be the closest thing we have to the stock market for physical collectibles. A players cards could shot up over night if they have a massive game or get hit. Generally speaking, you should price your items ahead of time especially if you knew you were going to setup for the day. He probably didn’t want to spend the time doing it. Interesting thing is that some video game stores/card shops/comic book shops have adapted this model. Their reasoning is that they have so much inventory they couldn’t keep up with the changing market values. Which can be frustrating. I hate having to ask for someone to look up every single item. I’m also a collector myself. It’s really a turn off as a buyer.
Point of a yard sale is to sell stuff fast to make room for newer stuff. You can typically expect to get around 10-30% of what something is really valued at.
I got kicked out of a hobby shop because these kids brought in cards of their parents while they were at work and the owner was screwing the kids over so I said something and he told me to leave. Still glad i said it😊
Haha…I was hoping he would say, “this goes for $30 on eBay, I’ll sell it to you for $10”. Instead he was like this “sells for $10 on ebay, I’ll sell it to you for $35”.
So he was just wrong about the value. He was also talking about the graded cards and the condition. Funny how you defend a reseller if the resellers never pay the value😂
@@mathiasm8489 of course resellers never pay the value of the item. Why would they pay full price to turn around and sell it for full price? There is no profit for them. As for the Jordan’s, I was actually buying them for myself. I collect sports cards. Yes, he was talking about PSA 10 pricing but then looks up comps on eBay and tells me $35 for a $10 card. Those cards weren’t gradeable. I just wanted them for my pc.
Is that supposed to hurt their feelings or something? What do you want them to beg for your money or something. YOU are going to look it up so why can't they?
To answer your first question, no. To answer your second question, I look it up to make sure I'm getting a good deal, and they look it to make sure I don't. It's a pretty standard hunting tactic to save the time of being quoted ebay prices.
I quit having yard sales years ago, i would have everything priced dirt cheap to just get rid of it, earlybirds would show up while i was bringing it out and still try to undercut me, no more done!
Yep, we held a group yard sale with a "no early arrivers" notice, some still came and we refused to sell them anything. A family offered $0.25 for a NEW, UNUSED dish and utensil set (priced at $10). They wouldn't budge from the quarter so we ran them off. Some old timers would loudly criticize everything but wouldn't make an offer, so we sent them packing (make an offer or leave). We made a buyer-friendly deal on a very sturdy, newly upholstered wooden chair for $15 (orig asking $30) and the buyer tried to give us a delivery address! You bought it lady - how you get it home is on you. But most people were reasonable - we would usually meet them halfway and be happy about it. Good vibes rule! Lastly, there were actually teams of people who show up to support each other in their criticism of items to try to get an absurdly low price. They acted like they didn't know each other. Sent them packing too.
Neither side appreciates when the other does it. As a seller I'm not giving something away - as I buyer I'm not gonna over pay. Negotiating skill is paramount for both.
@@atlantaguitar9689 the thing is I rarely see people over pay . What's happening is people want low prices so they can resell then complain the price is too high when it's literally under market value
I'm personally okay with sellers sticking to their price and not wanting to negotiate. A lot of yard sale prices are reasonable anyway, it's the re sellers who go there trying to low ball them even further knowing they're already making profit on an item if they pay the price already on the item. However, from a seller point of view, there is a way to treat a potential customer, and just flat out telling someone to go away and leave the sale isn't the way to go.
It’s not just the resellers that lowball yard sale prices. With that being said, if you have something of any value at all, it should not be in a yard sale and expect to get top dollar for it.
Yeah, last time I had a sale, it was mostly re-sellers that showed up. Stuff was priced reasonably and if I wanted to give it away, I’d go to Goodwill, so didn’t feel like haggling much.
I think it’s in our blood (resellers) to always ask for a bargain. There is a way to do it and be respectful. At the same time, if the seller is giving you great deals. It’s ok to pay their asking price.
@@pickingandpunching well, they were t very respectful. Here’s an example. I had Peter David’s complete run on Incredible Hulk comic. Some key issues in there, great shape. A steal at $100. People were trying to get me to $50.
I don't blame you. I've had that happen. I know what I want for my stuff in advance and while I am willing to negotiate, I won't entertain those absurdly low ball offers that some of the resellers make especially when they have been lurking around for 45 minutes looking everything up on their phone. I also get a kick out of how they try to arrive at 7 am for an 8 am advertised start. As a buyer I just wish sellers would establish their prices in advance - not when I ask how much it is. Then they pull out the phones and start looking stuff up. Frankly, I think phones make both sides paranoid.
This is a good time to buy up DVDs because there are going to be movies and shows that are going to fall through the cracks on streaming services. People are offloading Disney DVD and VHS like crazy, but have to track down the ones not on Disney Plus and use that as a selling point. The “Disney Treasures” series are pretty hard to find.
I made the deal with the parent. It’s a system they do not play and had just laying around. $25 is what I normally try to pay for Xbox systems. Very similar pricing to what game shops do pay. Do you know how many systems we have purchased at garage sales that were told that they work, only to take them home to find out they don’t work. It’s about a 20% failure rate. One of these controllers ended up not working. After fees we will make about $50 off this deal, far from robbery.
But that's the name and the game of a garage sale..you don't know if it works! My issue is everything else you threw in on that 25..25 for an xbox fine but then games and other stuff thrown in too just seems a little greedy! no matter what they ask them what the price is. they dont force prices on sellers. if the seller is too lazy to search comps and list then pack and ship and risk a refund scenario or worse then thats on them for selling something for cheap to someone who will turn it for profit. Items also dont sell in a day. they could sit for months to years just taking up space until you get it sold.
Just went picking 2 days ago they do a bulk trash day where everyone just empties their homes/garages. I just had a garage sale today where the seller brought out a HUGE stack of boxed DS games, and didn't seem to care all that much about numbers until his mother suddenly butted in and started asking him if he'd checked online and how much they were worth. In all honestly when I say this. They could try to sell it for full market value. Sometimes it will take us 1-6 months to sell items we buy. It actually helps out a lot of people to be able to move items right away at a discounted price. A lot of people don’t want to put in the time to make the extra money.

When buying on Ebay, i have assurance that the item in question is fully authentic and/or working and assurance that if its not I can just return it with no issues. I have neither of those at a garage sale. So there is almost no reason to ever price your garage sale items at Ebay value or above.
It's important to remember that in many countries, negotiating is acceptable and even expected. The man that offered $3 twice and kinda just stood there was probably hoping that the grumpy old man would come back with an offer of $4. At any rate, I've seen people charge outlandish prices for junk and on the other side of the spectrum, letting treasures go for for nothing. My two cents! :)

I been doing this for 25+ years so I have a lot of experience. I was able to learn a couple different ways. I would look up items on eBay and study sold comps. Then go from there.

I hate when things aren't marked. When you asked the price, they say what would you give me. When you say $5, they laugh. Well you said what would you give me. Then they say $100. I might have given $20. But on the other hand, I'm a mechanic. When people ask how much they owe me, I started asking "What was it worth to you?" How much do you think it should be? I'm actually surprised about how often people say a price higher than I was going to say. If they do say something way to low, I don't laugh. I tell them I spent "x" amount of hrs on it, and I normally charge "x" amount per hour for that type of work. They'll then say I'll give you "x" amount. That's when I find out how much they think I'm worth. When I get a rude person, I try to have thick skin. You never know why they are like that. Could be their spouse died recently and they aren't in a good place. Could be so many people have tried ripping them off, they just got tired of it. Who knows. I hate when someone offers something way less than it's marked. To me, saying you'd give $10 for something that has $50 on it, is an insult. But I also don't mark things at what they sell for on ebay. I've already marked it lower. So for me, offering 30 for a 50 item doesn't get under my skin. I just tell people I'll fill it full of lead for anything lower. Do you know how enjoyable it is to fill it full of lead instead of feeling like you gave it away for free is? The thing that I don't get is, I list on ebay also. I check the "sold" items to see what things actually went for. I'll put something brand new in the box on for less than all the used sold items went for. Then it never sells. How is it people pay more for a used item then for the new item. I've been told people think its a fake ad or scam because it's too low. I don't try to rip people off. I buy at government auctions often getting good deals. So I'll get something that retails for $1200 for $50, see used ones going for $500 on ebay, list it new for $400, and never sell it.
I try to do the same thing when I sell items. I used that line at my garage sale “what did you want to give me for it”. No one would give me a price. If they would have said anything, I would have taken it, lol.

@mathiasm8489 that's how their fan bases are lol
Old man was a bit crazy! They might be $100 cards if psa 10's 🤷♂️
If they ever say, let me look it up, that's when you walk away.
Majority of the time that’s what ends up happening.
Just like Chipotle when they don't give you enough protein 😂😂😂
I agree
Is that supposed to hurt their feelings or something? What do you want them to beg for your money or something. YOU are going to look it up so why can't they?
To answer your first question, no. To answer your second question, I look it up to make sure I'm getting a good deal, and they look it to make sure I don't. It's a pretty standard hunting tactic to save the time of being quoted ebay prices.
I quit having yard sales years ago, i would have everything priced dirt cheap to just get rid of it, earlybirds would show up while i was bringing it out and still try to undercut me, no more done!
I can see that happening.
$15 and they wanted it delivered 😂😂😂
As soon as a seller pulls their phone out, I turn around and walk off.
Usually it’s not going to work to your favor.
Neither side appreciates when the other does it. As a seller I'm not giving something away - as I buyer I'm not gonna over pay. Negotiating skill is paramount for both.
Many estates, churches, yard and garage sales are catching on to the filming and “look up” are being banned.
@@atlantaguitar9689 the thing is I rarely see people over pay . What's happening is people want low prices so they can resell then complain the price is too high when it's literally under market value
Why? Because you know the seller is going to ask for what you were plannjng on asking after you bought it?
I'm personally okay with sellers sticking to their price and not wanting to negotiate.
A lot of yard sale prices are reasonable anyway, it's the re sellers who go there trying to low ball them even further knowing they're already making profit on an item if they pay the price already on the item.
However, from a seller point of view, there is a way to treat a potential customer, and just flat out telling someone to go away and leave the sale isn't the way to go.
Agree with you. I don’t think the guy was a reseller because he was actually trying the pair of shoes on. He could of just treated him differently.
It’s not just the resellers that lowball yard sale prices. With that being said, if you have something of any value at all, it should not be in a yard sale and expect to get top dollar for it.
@@Jana-TheCraftyGambler Most yard sale sellers dont expect top dollar but want a fair price while al resellers want to lowbal the price.

I didn’t realize how good of a pickup it was until I got home.
I agree with you. Media is something that I do really well with.
25 for an Xbox and a good few games, off a kid, is just plain robbery!
I should of said something on the video but it had damage to it so I passed.
That was a crazy garage sale lol. 😂
It was! 😂
That's his right to do that. I've seen vids where the content creator thinks he can shame a seller into selling something much cheaper. I think it was a dude named lonnie or something. You wanted it for a reason and if YOU want it then odds are someone else will.
At the end of the day it's his items and he can sell them for whatever he wants. $5 was a good deal for shoes. They guy who was trying to negotiate ended up paying the asking price.
How could you not really know who Thomas Kinkade was? He had a shop in nearly every Mall in The United States for decades.
Speaking the last time I was hanging out in malls was in the middle of the 90’s and I was 12, lol. The only thing I cared about in the malls was EB Games, KB Toys, and Spencer’s. I was never an art guy. I just didn’t know who he was.
If they would have said anything, I would have taken it, lol.
some times you just need to say no to a sale, for you cant have to ask lower the $5 for a pair of shoes, there is something wrong with you
$5 is a pretty good deal for a pair of shoes. That guy was just trying to get them super cheap.
Yo happy to see your channel growing bro.
Thank you! I appreciate you!!
guys selling ungraded wax era for mint 10 prices respect 😂
Crazy right? Lol
First time I ever watched you.. news subscriber
Thank you for the support!
My pleasure, Any idea how you find yard sales in America... Do you just drive up and down the streets until you see so awesome is there a specific way of finding them.
@@leecooper3852 if you are in a small town, check the classifieds in the newspaper. I use Facebook and Craigslist to find sales. Check out garage sale nation group on fb. They usually post up big highway sales. There are two apps that I use. Garage sale app and yardsale treasure map.
@@pickingandpunching Thank you I'm definitely going to have a look at that.
Do they know you're recording?
Yes, I wear a camera strapped to my chest and let people know that I have a UA-cam channel:
New subscriber here enjoyed the content. Question has anyone ever told yiu you voice sounds like John Cena?

@@pickingandpunching 😂😂😂😂
sad that romania doesent have many garage sales
Unfortunately, it does come down to the area that you live in. I do travel to different states and areas to do garage sales.
A guy at a flea market was selling cards on a binder for $1 each as he said he didn't know how much were they worth, but was willing to negotiate and offered me the full binder for $100.
It was mostly late 90's cards with some junk wax and I balked, but would've taken the binder at a decent price. Told him that I wasn't his targeted customer and if he had cards worth more than $1 I would've taken them. Ended up buying a few a couple of weeks later, but he seemed to be moving them. His cards, his prices.
I agree with you. It’s his cards, his prices. He can charge whatever he wants for cards. Hopefully you got something good.
Love your videos
Thank you! I appreciate you.
Man, why didn't you get the Sony Handycam?
I should of said something on video. I always buy them but this one buttons were stuck and it seemed damaged.
@pickingandpunching gotcha. Yeah, that's a bummer. I just sold that one complete for 275. I do believe it sells for parts from 80 to 100. Keep up the great vids my friend 👍 😁.
