When new, that Mk1 3.2 would run lower 14s and was faster than the 1.8 especially top-end. The fact that it ran higher 15s is pretty obvious something is very wrong. I remember my friend in one keeping up with my 350Z.
Considering the visual state of the v6-TT, I assume it didn't receive much love on proper maintenance of the engine either. Which could explain the current performance.
For all the UA-camrs out there looking to make it big just watch this guy. Imagine getting over 500k views in 19 hrs for a stupid drag race of 3 staggeringly uninteresting cars! Work on your charisma and likeability. That's the key to success in social media.

I'm so used to all the ridiculously fast cars recently, that 7:14 just looked like I was watching in 0.5x speed. 😆 The Mk3 TT looks seriously amazing though. It's so badass for a TT.
Mat has been promising us a really epic video for the last 3 months now, he better deliver on his promise which I’m sure he will, however he sure is taking his sweet time. Also regarding this race, surely the VR6 3.2L engine isn’t right, it must have some severe issues, it looks like it’s way down on power, the very fact it struggled to reach 100mph for the brake test just proved it.
No, it is just an old, naturally aspirated engine. The old auto does not shift very fast and it has more losses to the wheels compared to the manual. Actually, I was expecting the difference in the drag race between the 3.2 and the 1.8T to be a lot bigger.
@@neznam4149 idk I have the same engine but in an a6 and I don't have issues with getting it to a 100mph. The drag race is fair deal. More weight and only 10bhp more. But on the brake test the 3.2 was giving up when accelerating which wasn't normal.
@veshtoran First of all, it is not the same engine. In the A6, the engine is 3.2FSI, direct injection, in the TT is 3.2i, multi-point indirect injection. Also, I don't think it had problems to get 100mph, it was just way slower than the others and they made it for the joke. Audi's naturally aspirated angines are slow.
Yeah but if the power comes on late in the powerband, it becomes a slippery traction fest quite easily. Look at all the big turbo cars that can't properly hook until they're in fourth gear opposed to a car with less power but better balanced tuning parameters (like a better sized turbo, or boost by gear instead of enganging the full boost from 3500/4500 RPM)
Do a modern car but all the different engines next! Like showing the difference between all the power options so people know what they are missing out/buying.
I have a mk2 TTs but i think if Mat had a mk2 TTRS+ with dsg 360 bhp it would be much closer , mk2 TTRS+ is my dream car that is relatively affordable btw :)
The 3.2l is actually a VR6 engine. The VW Golf 4 R32 and Golf 5 R32 also had the same engine. But in the R32, the engine had an even better sound. Unfortunately, the engines often scattered heavily downwards in terms of performance and many did not even reach the factory specification. Old-fashioned technology. In addition, they were heavy, were drinking much fuel and unfortunately often had problems with the timing chain. All this ensured that since the 6th Golf R generation only the 2l turbo has been used. I once had an R32 and the sound was simply divine, even if it is not so super fast by today's standards. Whereby 6,2s from 0-100 km / h is not so slow.
Agreed I have a mk4 r32 for the last 9 years absolutely love it.. sounds amazing and feels superior in all departments.. my mate had the mk6 R.. is was fast but soulless.. he had quite a lot of issues.. he sold and bought a mk5 r32 and hasn't regretted
@@sajidqureshi2175 Six-cylinder engines are still different from four-cylinder engines. And always calling up all the power is not possible in everyday life anyway, then it's better to enjoy the beautiful sound. In addition, the more modern four-cylinder engines are not really much more economical than the naturally aspirated engines. When I let it roll comfortably on the highway, there was also an 8l/100km (29mpg) Most of the time it was around 10-11l/100km (23mpg). And you still have a not slow, safe vehicle and a lovely sound
Watching this drag race feels like witnessing a family reunion of the Audi TTs. The Mark I, Mark II, Mark III all gathered here to see who's the fastest
The price isn't strictly much of an issue for Yianni, but that price for a special TT? I doubt he's alone in thinking it's too much, even If there's only 100 of them. Add the fact that the 'special edition' isn't that much different from the current TT, it just further confirms this.

The 3.2v6 was always a sluggish lump of a thing. The r32 golf used to get spanked by the mk5 golf gti as well. Nothing new just a slow revving heavy lump of an engine with a heavy awd system
that 1.8t with 240hp is faster than the 3.2 vr6. so its normal
@@wohnwagenfutzi8533 i have a MK2 TT 3.2 (same Engine). On the Dyno the Engine produced 242 HP, Quarter Mile time was 14,3 Seconds. This 3.2 in the video must have some problems with the engine.
I've loved the car since I was 18 and finally got one at 38. It's a brilliant drivers car for A and B roads. Mine is a 2008, manual, Stage 1, 2L petrol and it puts a smile on my face every day going to and back from work crossing from West Yorkshire into South Yorkshire.
I have been waiting a long time for the Audi TT drag race from the MK1 to MK3!
When new, that Mk1 3.2 would run lower 14s and was faster than the 1.8 especially top-end. The fact that it ran higher 15s is pretty obvious something is very wrong. I remember my friend in one keeping up with my 350Z.
Exactly. And the mkii 3.2 was even quicker
It was good to see the different generations, I have a MK2/8j TTS Roadster with a stage 1 and it is fun...
The banter between Matt and Yanni is hilarious 👌😂
The race we've all been waiting for.
The 3.2 had some problems, I suppose, it can't be so bad. Thanks for the video.
Agree. Like turbo and water pump problems.
@@purwantiallan5089 the 3.2 doesn't have a turbo
Its heavier, ofc it will lose to a 1.8t
The MK1 TT's look so good! Beautiful cars!
Matt: Rory how do you feel losing from a bullock cart?
Rory: This car sounds really good 💀
Not fair Matt! Older models have not been tested for power loss prior to races. Shame, however grateful for the content your team is producing.
Was not expecting this video! The TT is my favorite car, and I’m so glad to be an owner of a MK2!
Been waiting for this video for a long time!
The track is full of TTs today, and the boys are too happy to be playing with them
Bmw fan boy, car wow lover…the whole time watching this vid I had smile
Mat n yan Bants is amazing! Thanks guys for makin my day
As a owner of mk1 I have to say this car is really fun to drive. It's nimble
Really loved the MK1. ❤
If we could see the 3.2 vs the 1.8 audi tt when they were both new i think it would have been much better of a race
I have a mk4 r32 and my mates has a 225 bhp both are well maintained.. few times he has edged me and few times I have. They are both near enough same performance wise
Yeah, something not right. My 2008 tt v6 stick is way quicker than either of the first generation 225/6spds I owned
My 2003 TT hatch was just as quick at 145,000 miles as my 2001 TT convertible with 50,000 miles. So getting old didn’t slow down my 2003
I'm so used to all the ridiculously fast cars recently, that 7:14 just looked like I was watching in 0.5x speed. 😆 The Mk3 TT looks seriously amazing though. It's so badass for a TT.
Would love to see how a TTS compares to a quattro 230 and a TTRS on mk3 gen
Haha thanks for the mention Mat 😂 It was forth into third instead or fifth, but kinda makes no difference as my poor S55 died 🫣
You put a tune on any of these and they are tiny little rocket ships of joy!
Love the TT 🥰🥰🥰
I've got a Mk2 and absolutely love it. Build, performance, looks etc. Great to see all gens lined up here but Mk2 still wins for me.
Same here 🙌
“Almost beating me is not beating”
“Yes your right”
Ah man
Thank you for this races that reveal the TT to buy and the TT to forget. Hopefully, there is other nice sport cars from AUDI .
Here we are, years later, and Matt still thinks the cars need to be shoulder to shoulder during a brake test.
Tbf it's for the purposes of filming them rather than the outcome
Mat has been promising us a really epic video for the last 3 months now, he better deliver on his promise which I’m sure he will, however he sure is taking his sweet time.
Also regarding this race, surely the VR6 3.2L engine isn’t right, it must have some severe issues, it looks like it’s way down on power, the very fact it struggled to reach 100mph for the brake test just proved it.
The 3.2 is definitely broken
@@neznam4149it’s a DSG in the 3.2 TT not an old slush box
@@shane6115 Yeah its a good box and I drive one as a daily for the last 7 years
Just as I am eyeing myself an Imola Gelb MK2 TT RS manual! What a looker it is!
Omg iv owed 10 Audi tt so this videos is the best one iv seen 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Ww need more 3,2 V6!
The banter with Matt and Yani is what keeps me coming back.
V6 just had a completely different power band, peak HP only occurs for a very short time. Hence the switch to Turbo Power.
The V6 literally has 5 times the power.
'Have a look at the tip of your knob' 🤣🤣
Glad to see some TT videos with the gen 1 and 2 still these days 🙏
* You HAVE to do a GTI Generations drag race, including with both versions of the GTI VR6 (12v and 24v). That would be a blast!
nothing beats the manual. the feeling of shifting manual is something else..
Totally agree! Mine is a 2008 Stage 1 manual and the sound of rev matching the gears up and down is sooooo addictive
The Mk1 TT Quattro Sport is underrated hotness. Would love to have a go in one.
Mat and Yanni is a great bromance😍
I always approved this hundred percent.
Can we not focus on people?...
Thanks Matt for showing us lots of TTs
Honestly Matt, you're so competetive, boardering on the ridiculous and bitter when anyone beats you!
I love big, fat, natural TT's and you fellas have got'em. I'm glad that you showed some love to well hated Audi TT. Thank you
I love the Audi tt its to good but surprisingly affordable
It's great, I had a gen 2 with a wooky engine... Still mis that car.
The tt rs is the only valid one and it’s not affordable
mk2 tt looks so good man. especially the front
I love you Carwow for doing this race, I beg you do more of these.
What about Corolla vs Supra Evolution drag races?
Do a modern car but all the different engines next! Like showing the difference between all the power options so people know what they are missing out/buying.
Agree.
Had a 2000 VW Jetta vr6. Great engine. Super reliable.
Took an Audi TT into Wales last year including Black Mountain Pass. Beautiful roads and fun car.
3.2 has probably timing chain issues.
Won't stop it from going fast unless it jumped a tooth, in that case, it wouldn't be racing.
Finally after all these years :)
I love that Yanni never learns the stats :)
Seems like Doug Demuro secretly taking notes of this.
Watching this drag race feels like witnessing a family reunion of the Audi TTs. The Mark I, Mark II, Mark III all gathered here to see who's the fastest
Yanny surprised to see someone pay almost 110k usd for an Audi TT. Look at his eyes even though dude owns a lot of 300k cars
that part got me.
The price isn't strictly much of an issue for Yianni, but that price for a special TT? I doubt he's alone in thinking it's too much, even If there's only 100 of them. Add the fact that the 'special edition' isn't that much different from the current TT, it just further confirms this.
No he said 80k for a TT is too much, which everyone nearly agrees. Not 80k for any car
@@AffyR - OP literally says "110k usd"
@@MrMuz99 yeah dumbass I’m on about yanni in the video
